So pana saccakiriy±ya m³¼hagabbh±ya itthiy± sotthibh±va½ katv± tato paµµh±ya sulabhapiº¹o hutv± vivekamanubr³hanto aparabh±ge arahatta½ patv± abhiññ±tova as²tiy± mah±ther±na½ abbhantaro ahosi. Tasmi½ k±le dhammasabh±ya½ katha½ samuµµh±pesu½– “±vuso, aho vata bhagavat± tath±r³pa½ ludda½ lohitap±ºi½ mah±cora½ aªgulim±la½ adaº¹ena asatthena dametv± nibbisevana½ karontena dukkara½ kata½, aho buddh± n±ma dukkarak±rino”ti. Satth± gandhakuµiya½ µhitova dibbasotena ta½ katha½ sutv± “ajja mama gamana½ bahupak±ra½ bhavissati, mah±dhammadesan± pavattissat²”ti ñatv± anopam±ya buddhal²l±ya dhammasabha½ gantv± varapaññatt±sane nis²ditv± “k±ya nuttha, bhikkhave, etarahi kath±ya sannisinn±”ti pucchitv± “im±ya n±m±”ti vutte “anacchariya½, bhikkhave, id±neva param±bhisambodhi½ pattena may± etassa damana½, sv±ha½ pubbacariya½ caranto padesañ±ºe µhitopi eta½ damesin”ti vatv± tehi y±cito at²ta½ ±hari. Tamena½ r±j± vayappatta½ nikkhasahassa½ datv± dis±p±mokkhassa ±cariyassa santike sippuggahaºatth±ya takkasila½ pesesi. So ±cariyabh±ga½ ±d±ya nagar± nikkhamitv± magga½ paµipajji. Tad± b±r±ºasiya½ k±sirañño putto brahmadattakum±ropi tatheva vatv± pitar± pesito nagar± nikkhamitv± tameva magga½ paµipajji. Atha sutasomo magga½ gantv± nagaradv±re s±l±ya phalake vissamatth±ya nis²di. Brahmadattakum±ropi gantv± tena saddhi½ ekaphalake nis²di. Atha na½ sutasomo paµisanth±ra½ karonto “samma, maggakilantosi, kuto ±gacchas²”ti pucchitv± “b±r±ºasito”ti vutte “kassa puttos²”ti vatv± “k±sirañño puttomh²”ti vutte “ko n±mos²”ti vatv± “aha½ brahmadattakum±ro n±m±”ti vutte “kena k±raºena idh±gatos²”ti pucchi. So “sippuggahaºatth±y±”ti vatv± “tvampi maggakilantosi, kuto ±gacchas²”ti teneva nayena itara½ pucchi. Sopi tassa sabba½ ±cikkhi. Te ubhopi “maya½ khattiy±, ek±cariyasseva santike sippuggahaºatth±ya gacch±m±”ti aññamañña½ mittabh±va½ katv± nagara½ pavisitv± ±cariyakula½ gantv± ±cariya½ vanditv± attano j±ti-±di½ kathetv± sippuggahaºatth±ya ±gatabh±va½ kathesu½. So “s±dh³”ti sampaµicchi. Te ±cariyabh±ga½ datv± sippa½ paµµhapesu½. Na kevalañca te dveva, aññepi tad± jambud²pe ekasatamatt± r±japutt± tassa santike sippa½ uggaºhanti. Sutasomo tesa½ jeµµhantev±siko hutv± sippa½ upadisanto nacirasseva nipphatti½ p±puºi. So aññassa santika½ agantv± “sah±yo me”ti brahmadattassa kum±rasseva santika½ gantv± tassa piµµhi-±cariyo hutv± sippa½ sikkh±pesi. Itaresampi anukkamena sippa½ niµµhita½. Te anuyoga½ datv± ±cariya½ vanditv± sutasoma½ pariv±retv± nikkhami½su. Atha ne sutasomo maggantare µhatv± uyyojento “tumhe attano attano pit³na½ sippa½ dassetv± rajjesu patiµµhahissatha, patiµµhit± ca pana mamov±da½ kareyy±th±”ti ±ha. “Ki½ ±cariy±”ti? “Pakkhadivasesu uposathik± hutv± m± gh±ta½ kareyy±th±”ti. Te “s±dh³”ti sampaµicchi½su. Bodhisattopi aªgavijj±p±µhakatt± “an±gate b±r±ºasiya½ brahmadattakum±ra½ niss±ya mah±bhaya½ uppajjissat²”ti ñatv± te eva½ ovaditv± uyyojesi. Te sabbepi attano attano janapada½ gantv± pit³na½ sippa½ dassetv± rajjesu patiµµh±ya patiµµhitabh±vañceva ov±de vattanabh±vañca j±n±petu½ paºº±k±rena saddhi½ paºº±ni pahiºi½su. Mah±satto ta½ pavatti½ sutv± “appamatt±va hoth±”ti paºº±ni paµipesesi. Tesu b±r±ºasir±j± vin± ma½sena bhatta½ na bhuñjati. Uposathadivasatth±yapissa ma½sa½ gahetv± µhapesi. Athekadivasa½ eva½ µhapitama½sa½ bhattak±rakassa pam±dena r±jagehe koleyyakasunakh± kh±di½su. Bhattak±rako ta½ ma½sa½ aditv± kah±paºamuµµhi½ ±d±ya carantopi ma½sa½ upp±detu½ asakkonto “sace ama½sakabhatta½ upan±mess±mi, j²vita½ me natthi, ki½ nu kho kariss±m²”ti cintetv± “attheso up±yo”ti vik±le ±makasus±na½ gantv± muhuttamatassa purisassa ³ruma½sa½ ±haritv± supakka½ pacitv± bhatta½ upan±mesi. Atha na½ tuºh²bh³ta½ ñatv± “sabh±va½ kathehi, no ce kathesi, j²vita½ te natth²”ti ±ha. So abhaya½ y±citv± yath±bh³ta½ kathesi. R±j± “m± saddamak±si, pakatiy± pacanakama½sa½ tva½ kh±ditv± mayha½ manussama½sameva pac±h²”ti ±ha. “Nanu dukkara½, dev±”ti? “M± bh±yi, na dukkaran”ti. “Nibaddha½ kuto labhiss±mi, dev±”ti? “Nanu bandhan±g±re bah³ manuss±”ti. So tato paµµh±ya tath± ak±si. Aparabh±ge bandhan±g±re manussesu kh²ºesu “id±ni ki½ kariss±mi, dev±”ti ±ha. “Antar±magge sahassabhaº¹ika½ khipitv± yo ta½ gaºh±ti, ta½ ‘coro’ti gahetv± m±reh²”ti ±ha. Aparabh±ge r±jabhayena sahassabhaº¹ika½ olokentampi adisv± “id±ni ki½ kariss±m²”ti ±ha. “Yad± bherivel±ya nagara½ ±kula½ hoti, tad± tva½ pana ekasmi½ gharasandhimhi v± v²thiya½ v± catukke v± µhatv± manusse m±retv± ma½sa½ gaºh±h²”ti. So tato paµµh±ya tath± katv± th³lama½sa½ ±d±ya gacchati. Tesu tesu µh±nesu ka¼evar±ni dissanti. Mama m±t± na paññ±yati, mama pit± na paññ±yati, mama bh±t± bhagin² ca na paññ±yati, manuss±na½ paridevanasaddo s³yati. N±gar± bh²tatasit± “ime manusse s²ho nu kho kh±dati, byaggho nu kho kh±dati, yakkho nu kho kh±dat²”ti olokent± pah±ramukha½ disv± “eko manussakh±dako coro ime kh±dat²”ti maññanti. Mah±jan± r±jaªgaºe sannipatitv± upakkosi½su. R±j± “ki½, t±t±”ti pucchi. “Deva imasmi½ nagare manussakh±dako coro atthi, ta½ gaºh±peth±”ti ±ha½su. “Aha½ katha½ ta½ j±niss±mi, ki½ aha½ nagara½ rakkhantopi car±m²”ti. Mah±jan± “r±j± nagarena anatthiko, k±¼ahatthisen±patissa ±cikkhiss±m±”ti gantv± tassa ta½ kathetv± “cora½ pariyesitu½ vaµµat²”ti vadi½su. Atha na½ te puris± gahetv± pothetv± pacch±b±ha½ bandhitv± “gahito manussakh±dako coro”ti mah±sadda½ kari½su. Mah±jano ta½ pariv±resi. Atha na½ suµµhu bandhitv± ma½sapacchi½ g²v±ya bandhitv± ±d±ya sen±patissa dassesu½. 374. “Tath± kariss±mi aha½ bhadante, yath± tuva½ bh±sasi k±¼ahatthi;
p±tova antepura½ p±puºitv±, vakkh±mi te r±jino sammukhe tan”ti.
Tattha bhagav±ti g±rav±dhivacana½. Sace tuvanti “sacca½ nu kho bhaºati, ud±hu maraºabhayena mus± bhaºat²”ti v²ma½santo evam±ha. Tattha sud±ruº±n²ti manussagh±takamm±ni. Sammukhe tanti sammukhe µhatv± eva½ vadeyy±s²ti. So sampaµicchanto g±tham±ha. Atha na½ sen±pati g±¼habandhanameva say±petv± vibh±t±ya rattiy± amaccehi ca n±garehi ca saddhi½ mantetv± sabbesu ekacchandesu j±tesu sabbaµµh±nesu ±rakkha½ µhapetv± nagara½ hatthagata½ katv± rasakassa g²v±ya½ ma½sapacchi½ bandhitv± ±d±ya r±janivesana½ p±y±si. Sakalanagara½ viravi.
