Tatr±ya½ anupubbikath±– s±kiyakoliy± kira kapilavatthunagarassa ca koliyanagarassa ca antare rohiºi½ n±ma nadi½ ekenev±varaºena bandh±petv± sass±ni k±renti. Atha jeµµham³lam±se sassesu mil±yantesu ubhayanagarav±s²nampi kammak±r± sannipati½su. Tattha koliyanagarav±sino vadi½su– “ida½ udaka½ ubhayato n²hariyam±na½ neva tumh±ka½, na amh±ka½ pahossati, amh±ka½ pana sassa½ eka-udakeneva nipphajjissati, ida½ udaka½ amh±ka½ deth±”ti. Kapilavatthuv±sino vadi½su– “tumhesu koµµhe p³retv± µhitesu maya½ rattasuvaººan²lamaºik±¼akah±paºe gahetv± na sakkhiss±ma pacchipasibbak±dihatth± tumh±ka½ gharadv±re vicaritu½, amh±kampi sassa½ ekeneva udakena nipphajjissati, ida½ udaka½ amh±ka½ deth±”ti. “Na maya½ dass±m±”ti? “Mayampi na dass±m±”ti. Eva½ kalaha½ va¹¹hetv± eko uµµh±ya ekassa pah±ra½ ad±si, sopi aññass±ti eva½ aññamañña½ paharitv± r±jakul±na½ j±ti½ ghaµµetv± kalaha½ pavattesu½.
Koliyakammak±r± vadanti– “tumhe kapilavatthuv±sike s±kiyad±rake gahetv± gajjatha ye soºasiªg±l±dayo viya attano bhagin²hi saddhi½ vasi½su, etesa½ hatthi-ass±dayo v± phalak±vudh±ni v± amh±ka½ ki½ karissant²”ti? S±kiyakammak±r± vadanti– “tumhe d±ni kuµµhino d±rake gahetv± gajjatha, ye an±th± niggatik± tiracch±n± viya kolarukkhe vasi½su, etesa½ hatthi-ass±dayo v± phalak±vudh±ni v± amh±ka½ ki½ karissant²”ti? Te gantv± tasmi½ kamme niyutta-amacc±na½ kathesu½, amacc± r±jakul±na½ kathesu½. Tato s±kiy± “bhagin²hi saddhi½ sa½v±sik±na½ th±mañca balañca dassess±m±”ti yuddhasajj± nikkhami½su. Koliy±pi “kolarukkhav±s²na½ th±mañca balañca dassess±m±”ti yuddhasajj± nikkhami½su. Apare pan±cariy± “s±kiyakoliy±na½ d±s²su udakatth±ya nadi½ gantv± cumbaµ±ni bh³miya½ nikkhipitv± sukhakath±ya sannisinn±su ekiss± cumbaµa½ ek± sakasaññ±ya gaºhi, ta½ niss±ya ‘mama cumbaµa½, tava cumbaµan’ti kalahe pavatte kamena ubhayanagarav±sino d±sakammak±r± ceva sevakag±mabhojak±macca-upar±j±no c±ti sabbe yuddhasajj± nikkhami½s³”ti vadanti. Imamh± pana nay± purimanayova bah³su aµµhakath±su ±gato, yuttar³po c±ti sveva gahetabbo.
Te pana s±yanhasamaye yuddhasajj± nikkhamissant²ti tasmi½ samaye bhagav± s±vatthiya½ viharanto pacc³sasamaye loka½ volokento ime eva½ yuddhasajje nikkhante addasa, disv± ca “mayi gate esa kalaho v³pasamissati nu kho, no”ti upadh±rento “ahamettha gantv± kalahav³pasamattha½ t²ºi j±tak±ni kathess±mi, tato kalaho v³pasamissati, atha s±maggid²panatth±ya dve j±tak±ni kathetv± attadaº¹asutta½ (su. ni. 941 ±dayo) desess±mi, desana½ sutv± ubhayanagarav±sino a¹¹hateyy±ni a¹¹hateyy±ni kum±rasat±ni dassanti, aha½ te pabb±jess±mi, mahanto sam±gamo bhavissat²”ti sanniµµh±na½ katv± p±tova sar²rapaµijaggana½ katv± s±vatthiya½ piº¹±ya caritv± piº¹ap±tapaµikkanto s±yanhasamaye gandhakuµito nikkhamitv± kassaci an±rocetv± sayameva pattac²varam±d±ya dvinna½ sen±na½ antare ±k±se pallaªka½ ±bhujitv± tesa½ sa½vegajananattha½ div± andhak±ra½ k±tu½ kesara½siyo vissajjento nis²di. Koliyanagarav±sinopi tatheva aka½su.
Atha bhagav± otaritv± ramaº²ye padese v±lukapuline paññattavarabuddh±sane nis²di anopam±ya buddhasiriy± virocam±no. Tepi r±j±no bhagavanta½ vanditv± nis²di½su. Atha ne satth± j±nantova “kasm± ±gatattha, mah±r±j±”ti pucchi. “Neva, bhante, nadidassanatth±ya, na k²¼anatth±ya, apica kho pana imasmi½ µh±ne saªg±ma½ paccupaµµh±petv± ±gatamh±”ti. “Ki½ niss±ya vo kalaho, mah±r±j±”ti? “Udaka½ niss±ya bhante”ti. “Udaka½ ki½ agghati mah±r±j±”ti? “Appaggha½, bhante”ti. “Pathav² n±ma ki½ agghati, mah±r±j±”ti? “Anaggh±, bhante”ti. “Khattiy± ki½ agghanti, mah±r±j±”ti? “Khattiy± n±ma anaggh±, bhante”ti. “Appaggha½ udaka½ niss±ya kasm± anagghe khattiye n±setha, mah±r±ja, kalahasmiñhi ass±do n±ma natthi, kalahavasena hi mah±r±j± ek±ya rukkhadevat±ya k±¼as²hena saddhi½ baddh±gh±to sakalampi ima½ kappa½ anuppattoyev±”ti vatv± phandanaj±taka½ (j±. 1.13.14 ±dayo) kathesi. Sace pana satth± ag±ra½ ajjh±vasissa, dvisahassad²papariv±ra½ catumah±d²parajja½ hatthagata½ abhavissa, atirekasahassa½ kho panassa putt± abhavissa½su, tato khattiyapariv±rova avicarissa, ta½ kho panesa sampatti½ pah±ya nikkhamitv± sambodhi½ patto, id±nipi khattiyapariv±rova vicarat³”ti ubhayanagarav±sino a¹¹hateyy±ni a¹¹hateyy±ni kum±rasat±ni ada½su. Bhagav± te pabb±jetv± mah±vana½ agam±si. Punadivasato paµµh±ya tehi parivuto ekad± kapilavatthunagare ekad± koliyanagareti dv²su nagaresu piº¹±ya carati. Ubhayanagarav±sino mah±sakk±ra½ kari½su. Tesa½ garug±ravena na attano ruciy± pabbajit±na½ anabhirati uppajji. Pur±ºadutiyik±yopi nesa½ anabhiratijananatth±ya ta½ ta½ vatv± s±sana½ pesesu½. Te atirekatara½ ukkaºµhi½su. Bhagav± ±vajjento tesa½ anabhiratabh±va½ ñatv± “ime bhikkh³ m±disena buddhena saddhi½ ekato vasant± ukkaºµhanti, katha½ r³p± nu kho tesa½ dhammakath± sapp±y±”ti upadh±rento kuº±ladhammadesana½ passi. Athassa etadahosi– “aha½ ime bhikkh³ himavanta½ netv± kuº±lakath±ya nesa½ m±tug±madosa½ pak±setv± anabhirati½ haritv± sot±pattimagga½ dass±m²”ti.
So pubbaºhasamaya½ niv±setv± pattac²varam±d±ya kapilavatthu½ piº¹±ya caritv± pacch±bhatta½ piº¹ap±tapaµikkanto bhattakiccavel±yameva te pañcasate bhikkh³ ±mantetv± “diµµhapubbo vo, bhikkhave, ramaº²yo himavantapadeso”ti pucchi. “Noheta½, bhante”ti. “Gacchissatha pana himavantac±rikan”ti? “Bhante, aniddhimanto maya½ katha½ gamiss±m±”ti. “Sace pana vo koci gahetv± gaccheyya, gaccheyy±th±”ti? “¾ma, bhante”ti. Satth± sabbepi te attano iddhiy± gahetv± ±k±se uppatitv± himavanta½ gantv± gaganatale µhitova ramaº²ye himavantapadese kañcanapabbata½ rajatapabbata½ maºipabbata½ hiªgulikapabbata½ añjanapabbata½ s±nupabbata½ phalikapabbatanti n±n±vidhe pabbate, pañca mah±nadiyo, kaººamuº¹aka½ rathak±ra½ s²hapap±ta½ chaddanta½ tiyagga¼a½ anotatta½ kuº±ladahanti satta dahe dassesi. Himavanto ca n±ma mah± pañcayojanasatubbedho tiyojanasahassavitthato, tassa ima½ ramaº²ya½ ekadesa½ attano ±nubh±vena dassesi. Tattha kataniv±s±ni s²habyagghahatthikul±d²ni catuppad±nipi ekadesato dassesi. Tattha ±r±mar±maºeyyak±d²ni pupph³pagaphal³page rukkhe n±n±vidhe sakuºasaªghe jalajathalajapupph±ni himavantassa puratthimapasse suvaººatala½, pucchimapasse hiªgulatala½ dassesi. Imesa½ r±maºeyyak±na½ diµµhak±lato paµµh±ya tesa½ bhikkh³na½ pur±ºadutiyik±su chandar±go pah²no.
Atha satth± te bhikkh³ gahetv± ±k±sato otaritv± himavantapacchimapasse saµµhiyojanike manosil±tale sattayojanikassa kappaµµhikas±larukkhassa heµµh± tiyojanik±ya manosil±tal±ya tehi bhikkh³hi parivuto chabbaººarasmiyo vissajjento aººavakucchi½ khobhetv± jalam±no s³riyo viya nis²ditv± madhurassara½ nicch±rento te bhikkh³ ±mantesi– “bhikkhave, imasmi½ himavante tumhehi adiµµhapubba½ pucchath±”ti. Tasmi½ khaºe dve citrakokil± ubhosu koµ²su daº¹aka½ mukhena ¹a½sitv± majjhe attano s±mika½ nis²d±petv± aµµha citrakokil± purato, aµµha pacchato, aµµha v±mato, aµµha dakkhiºato, aµµha heµµh±, aµµha upari ch±ya½ katv± eva½ citrakokila½ pariv±retv± ±k±sen±gacchanti. Atha te bhikkh³ ta½ sakuºasaªgha½ disv± satth±ra½ pucchi½su– “ke n±mete, bhante sakuº±”ti? “Bhikkhave, esa mama por±ºako va½so, may± µhapit± paveº², ma½ t±va pubbe eva½ paricari½su, tad± panesa sakuºagaºo mah± ahosi, a¹¹hu¹¹h±ni dijakaññ±sahass±ni ma½ paricari½su. Anupubbena parih±yitv± id±ni ettako j±to”ti. “Katha½ evar³pe pana, bhante, vanasaº¹e et± dijakaññ±yo tumhe paricari½s³”ti?
