Ki½ nu daº¹a½ kimajinanti ida½ satth± jetavane viharanto paññ±p±rami½ ±rabbha kathesi. Vatthu mah±-umaªgaj±take (j±. 2.22.590 ±dayo) ±vi bhavissati. Tad± pana satth± “na, bhikkhave, id±neva, pubbepi tath±gato paññav± parappav±dappamaddanoyev±”ti vatv± at²ta½ ±hari.
At²te b±r±ºasiya½ brahmadatte rajja½ k±rente bodhisatto k±siraµµhe as²tikoµivibhavassa udiccabr±hmaºamah±s±lassa kule nibbatti, “bodhikum±ro”tissa n±ma½ kari½su. So vayappatto takkasil±ya½ uggahitasippo pacc±gantv± ag±ramajjhe vasanto aparabh±ge k±me pah±ya himavantapadesa½ pavisitv± paribb±jakapabbajja½ pabbajitv± tattheva vanam³laphal±h±ro cira½ vasitv± vass±rattasamaye himavant± oruyha c±rika½ caranto anupubbena b±r±ºasi½ patv± r±juyy±ne vasitv± punadivase paribb±jakas±ruppena nagare bhikkh±ya caranto r±jadv±ra½ p±puºi tamena½ s²hapañjare µhito r±j± disv± tassa upasame pas²ditv± ta½ attano bhavana½ pavesetv± r±japallaªke nis²d±petv± katapaµisanth±ro thoka½ dhammakatha½ sutv± n±naggarasabhojana½ d±pesi. Mah±satto bhatta½ gahetv± cintesi– “ida½ r±jakula½ n±ma bahudosa½ bahupacc±mitta½ hoti, ko nu kho mama uppanna½ bhaya½ nittharissat²”ti. So avid³re µhita½ r±javallabha½ eka½ piªgalasunakha½ disv± mahanta½ bhattapiº¹a½ gahetv± tassa d±tuk±mat±k±ra½ dassesi. R±j± ñatv± sunakhassa bh±jana½ ±har±petv± bhatta½ g±h±petv± d±pesi. Mah±sattopi tassa datv± bhattakicca½ niµµhapesi. R±j±pissa paµiñña½ gahetv± antonagare r±juyy±ne paººas±la½ k±retv± pabbajitaparikkh±re datv± ta½ tattha v±s±pesi, devasikañcassa dve tayo v±re upaµµh±na½ agam±si. Bhojanak±le pana mah±satto nicca½ r±japallaªkeyeva nis²ditv± r±jabhojanameva bhuñjati. Eva½ dv±dasa sa½vacchar±ni at²t±ni.
Tassa pana rañño pañca amacc± atthañca dhammañca anus±santi. Tesu eko ahetukav±d², eko issarakatav±d², eko pubbekatav±d², eko ucchedav±d², eko khattavijjav±d². Tesu ahetukav±d² “ime satt± sa½s±rasuddhik±”ti mah±jana½ uggaºh±pesi. Issarakatav±d² “aya½ loko issaranimmito”ti mah±jana½ uggaºh±pesi. Pubbekatav±d² “imesa½ satt±na½ sukha½ v± dukkha½ v± uppajjam±na½ pubbekateneva uppajjat²”ti mah±jana½ uggaºh±pesi. Ucchedav±d² “ito paraloka½ gato n±ma natthi, aya½ loko ucchijjat²”ti mah±jana½ uggaºh±pesi. Khattavijjav±d² “m±t±pitaropi m±retv± attanova attho k±tabbo”ti mah±jana½ uggaºh±pesi. Te rañño vinicchaye niyutt± lañjakh±dak± hutv± ass±mika½ s±mika½, s±mika½ ass±mika½ karonti.
Athekadivasa½ eko puriso k³µaµµapar±jito mah±satta½ bhikkh±ya caranta½ r±jageha½ pavisanta½ disv± vanditv±, “bhante, tumhe r±jagehe bhuñjam±n± vinicchay±macce lañja½ gahetv± loka½ vin±sente kasm± ajjhupekkhatha, id±ni pañcahi amaccehi k³µaµµak±rakassa hatthato lañja½ gahetv± s±mikova sam±no ass±miko kato”ti paridevi. So tasmi½ k±ruññavasena vinicchaya½ gantv± dhammena vinicchinitv± s±mikaññeva s±mika½ ak±si. Mah±jano ekappah±reneva mah±saddena s±dhuk±ra½ ad±si. R±j± ta½ sadda½ sutv± “ki½saddo n±m±yan”ti pucchitv± tamattha½ sutv± katabhattakicca½ mah±satta½ upanis²ditv± pucchi– “bhante, ajja kira vo aµµo vinicchito”ti. “¾ma, mah±r±j±”ti. “Bhante, tumhesu vinicchinantesu mah±janassa vu¹¹hi bhavissati, ito paµµh±ya tumheva vinicchinath±”ti. “Mah±r±ja, maya½ pabbajit± n±ma, neta½ kamma½ amh±ka½ kamman”ti. “Bhante, mah±jane k±ruññena k±tu½ vaµµati, tumhe sakaladivasa½ m± vinicchinatha, uyy±nato pana idh±gacchant± vinicchayaµµh±na½ gantv± p±tova catt±ro aµµe vinicchinatha, bhutv± uyy±na½ gacchant± catt±ro, eva½ mah±janassa vu¹¹hi bhavissat²”ti. So tena punappuna½ y±ciyam±no “s±dh³”ti sampaµicchitv± tato paµµh±ya tath± ak±si.
K³µaµµak±rak± ok±sa½ na labhi½su. Tepi amacc± lañja½ alabhant± duggat± hutv± cintayi½su “bodhiparibb±jakassa vinicchinanak±lato paµµh±ya maya½ kiñci na labh±ma, handa na½ ‘r±javeriko’ti vatv± rañño antare paribhinditv± m±r±pess±m±”ti. Te r±j±na½ upasaªkamitv±, “mah±r±ja, bodhiparibb±jako tumh±ka½ anatthak±mo”ti vatv± asaddahantena raññ± “s²lav± esa ñ±ºasampanno, na eva½ karissat²”ti vutte, “mah±r±ja, tena sakalanagarav±sino attano hatthe katv± kevala½ amheyeva pañca jane k±tu½ na sakk±, sace amh±ka½ vacana½ na saddahatha, tassa idh±gamanak±le parisa½ oloketh±”ti ±ha½su. R±j± “s±dh³”ti s²hapañjare µhito ta½ ±gacchanta½ olokento pariv±ra½ disv± attano aññ±ºena aµµak±rakamanusse “tassa pariv±r±”ti maññam±no bhijjitv± te amacce pakkos±petv± “kinti karom±”ti pucchi. “Gaºh±petha na½, dev±”ti. “O¼±rika½ apar±dha½ apassant± katha½ gaºh±m±”ti. “Tena hi, mah±r±ja, pakatiparih±ramassa h±petha, ta½ parih±yanta½ disv± paº¹ito paribb±jako kassaci an±rocetv± sayameva pal±yissat²”ti.
R±j± “s±dh³”ti vatv± anupubbena tassa parih±ra½ parih±pesi. Paµhamadivasa½ t±va na½ tucchapallaªkeyeva nis²d±pesu½. So tucchapallaªka½ disv±va rañño paribhinnabh±va½ ñatv± sayameva uyy±na½ gantv± ta½ divasameva pakkamituk±mo hutv±pi “ekantena ñatv± pakkamiss±m²”ti na pakk±mi. Athassa punadivase tucchapallaªke nisinnassa raññopakatibhattañca aññañca gahetv± missakabhatta½ ada½su. Tatiyadivase mah±tala½ pavisitu½ adatv± sop±nas²seyeva µhapetv± missakabhatta½ ada½su. So tampi ±d±ya uyy±na½ gantv± bhattakicca½ ak±si. Catutthadivase heµµh±p±s±de µhapetv± kaº±jakabhatta½ ada½su. So tampi gahetv± uyy±na½ gantv± bhattakicca½ ak±si. R±j± amacce pucchi– “bodhiparibb±jako sakk±re parih±pitepi na pakkamati, kinti na½ karom±”ti? “Deva, na so bhattatth±ya carati, chattatth±ya pana carati. Sace bhattatth±ya careyya, paµhamadivasa½yeva pal±yeyy±”ti. “Id±ni ki½ karom±”ti? “Sve gh±t±petha na½, mah±r±j±”ti. So “s±dh³”ti tesaññeva hatthe khagge µhapetv± “sve antaradv±re µhatv± pavisantassevassa s²sa½ chinditv± khaº¹±khaº¹ika½ katv± kañci aj±n±petv± vaccakuµiya½ pakkhipitv± nhatv± ±gaccheyy±th±”ti ±ha. Te “s±dh³”ti sampaµicchitv± “sve ±gantv± eva½ kariss±m±”ti aññamañña½ vic±retv± eva½ attano nivesana½ agama½su.
R±j±pi s±ya½ bhuttabhojano sirisayane nipajjitv± mah±sattassa guºe anussari. Athassa t±vadeva soko uppajji, sar²rato sed± mucci½su, sayane ass±sa½ alabhanto apar±para½ parivatti. Athassa aggamahes² upanipajji, so t±ya saddhi½ sall±pamattampi na kari. Atha na½ s± “ki½ nu kho, mah±r±ja, sall±pamattampi na karotha, api nu kho me koci apar±dho atth²”ti pucchi. “Natthi devi, apica kho bodhiparibb±jako kira amh±ka½ paccatthiko j±toti tassa sve gh±tanatth±ya pañca amacce ±º±pesi½, te pana na½ m±retv± khaº¹±khaº¹ika½ katv± vaccak³pe pakkhipissanti, so pana amh±ka½ dv±dasa sa½vacchar±ni bahu½ dhamma½ desesi, ek±par±dhopissa may± paccakkhato na diµµhapubbo, parapattiyena hutv± tassa may± vadho ±ºatto, tena k±raºena soc±m²”ti. Atha na½ s± “sace te deva so paccatthiko j±to, ta½ gh±tento ki½ socasi, paccatthika½ n±ma puttampi gh±tetv± attano sotthibh±vo k±tabbova, m± socitth±”ti ass±sesi. So tass± vacanena paµiladdhass±so nidda½ okkami.
Tasmi½ khaºe koleyyako piªgalasunakho ta½ katha½ sutv± “sve may± attano balenassa j²vita½ d±tu½ vaµµat²”ti cintetv± punadivase p±tova p±s±d± oruyha mah±dv±ra½ ±gantv± umm±re s²sa½ katv± mah±sattassa ±gamanamagga½ olokentova nipajji. Tepi amacc± p±tova khaggahatth± ±gantv± dv±rantare aµµha½su. Bodhisattopi vela½ sallakkhetv± uyy±n± nikkhamma r±jadv±ra½ ±gañchi. Atha na½ sunakho disv± mukha½ vivaritv± catasso d±µh± dassetv± “ki½ tva½, bhante, jambud²patale aññattha bhikkha½ na labhasi, amh±ka½ r±j± tava m±raºatth±ya pañca amacce khaggahatthe dv±rantare µhapesi, m± tva½ nal±µena maccu½ gahetv± ±gami, s²gha½ pakkam±”ti mah±saddena viravi. So sabbarutaññut±ya tamattha½ ñatv± tatova nivattitv± uyy±na½ gantv± pakkamanatth±ya parikkh±re ±diyi. R±j± s²hapañjare µhito ta½ ±gacchanta½ gacchantañca disv± “sace aya½ mama paccatthiko bhaveyya, uyy±na½ gantv± bala½ sannip±t±petv± kammasajjo bhavissati. No ce, attano parikkh±re gahetv± gamanasajjo bhavissati, j±niss±mi t±vassa kiriyan”ti uyy±na½ gantv± mah±satta½ attano parikkh±re ±d±ya “gamiss±m²”ti paººas±lato nikkhanta½ caªkamanakoµiya½ disv±va vanditv± ekamanta½ µhito paµhama½ g±tham±ha–

kimaªkusañca pattañca, saªgh±µiñc±pi br±hmaºa;
taram±nar³poh±si, ki½ nu patthayase disan”ti.
Tassattho bhante, pubbe tva½ amh±ka½ ghara½ ±gacchanto daº¹±d²ni na gaºh±si, ajja pana kena k±raºena daº¹añca ajinañca chatt³p±hanañca mattikapasibbakolambana-aªkusañca mattikapattañca saªgh±µiñc±ti sabbepime parikkh±re taram±nar³po gaºh±si, katara½ nu disa½ patthesi, kattha gantuk±mos²ti pucchi.
Ta½ sutv± mah±satto “aya½ attan± katakamma½ na j±n±t²ti maññati, j±n±pess±mi nan”ti dve g±th± abh±si–
125. “Dv±daset±ni vass±ni, vusit±ni tavantike;
n±bhij±n±mi soºena, piªgalen±bhik³jita½.
126. “Sv±ya½ dittova nadati, sukkad±µha½ vida½saya½;
tava sutv± sabhariyassa, v²tasaddhassa ma½ pat²”ti.
Tattha abhik³jitanti etena tava sunakhena eva½ mah±viravena viravita½ na j±n±mi. Ditto v±ti dappito viya. Sabhariyass±ti tava sabhariyassa mama m±raºatth±ya pañcanna½ amacc±na½ ±ºattabh±va½ kathentassa sutv± “ki½ tva½ aññattha bhikkha½ na labhasi, raññ± te vadho ±ºatto, idha m±gacch²”ti dittova nadati. V²tasaddhassa ma½ pat²ti mamantare vigatasaddhassa tava vacana½ sutv± eva nadat²ti ±ha.
Tato r±j± attano dosa½ sampaµicchitv± ta½ kham±pento catuttha½ g±tham±ha–
127. “Ahu esa kato doso, yath± bh±sasi br±hmaºa;
esa bhiyyo pas²d±mi, vasa br±hmaºa m±gam±”ti.
Tattha bhiyyoti sacca½ may± eva½ ±ºatta½, aya½ me doso, esa pan±ha½ id±ni adhikatara½ tayi pas²d±mi, idheva vasa, m± aññattha gam²ti.
