Satth± anupubbena s±vatthi½ gantv± raññ± “p±µih±riya½ kira, bhante, karissath±”ti pucchito “kariss±m²”ti vatv± “kad±, bhante”ti vutte “ito sattame divase ±s±¼hipuººam±siyan”ti ±ha. “Maº¹apa½ karomi bhante”ti? “Ala½ mah±r±ja, mama p±µih±riyakaraºaµµh±ne sakko devar±j± dv±dasayojanika½ ratanamaº¹apa½ karissat²”ti. “Eta½ k±raºa½ nagare ugghos±pemi, bhante”ti? “Ugghos±pehi mah±r±j±”ti. Eva½ dasasahassacakkav±¼adevat± sannipati½su. Satth± titthiyamaddana½ as±dh±raºa½ s±vakehi yamakap±µih±riya½ katv± bahujanassa pasannabh±va½ ñatv± oruyha buddh±sane nisinno dhamma½ desesi. Tato “purimabuddh± pana p±µih±riya½ katv± kattha gacchant²”ti ±vajjento “t±vati½sabhavanan”ti ñatv± buddh±san± uµµh±ya dakkhiºap±da½ yugandharamuddhani µhapetv± v±map±dena sinerumatthaka½ akkamitv± p±ricchattakam³le paº¹ukambalasil±ya½ vassa½ upagantv± antotem±sa½ dev±na½ abhidhammapiµaka½ kathesi. Satth± lokavivaraºa½ p±µih±riya½ katv± majjhe maºimayena sop±nena otari. Sakko pattac²vara½ aggahesi, suy±mo v±lab²jani½, sahampati mah±brahm± chatta½ dh±resi, dasasahassacakkav±¼adevat± dibbagandham±l±d²hi p³jayi½su. Aggas±vakavisaye puµµhapañhampi aggas±vak±va kathayi½su, aññe na j±ni½su. Tato s±riputtattherassa visaye pañha½ pucchi, ta½ therova kathesi, aññe na j±ni½su.
Manuss± “ko n±ma esa thero satth±r± saddhi½ kathes²”ti pucchitv± “dhammasen±pati s±riputtatthero n±m±”ti sutv± “aho mah±pañño”ti vadi½su. Tato paµµh±ya devamanuss±na½ antare therassa mah±paññaguºo p±kaµo j±to. Atha na½ satth±–

Buddhavisaye pañha½ pucchitv± “imassa nu kho s±riputta, sa½khittena bh±sitassa katha½ vitth±rena attho daµµhabbo”ti ±ha. Thero pañha½ oloketv± “satth± ma½ sekh±sekh±na½ bhikkh³na½ ±gamanapaµipada½ pucchat²”ti pañhe nikkaªkho hutv± “±gamanapaµipad± n±ma khandh±divasena bah³hi mukhehi sakk± kathetu½, kata½ nu kho kathento satthu ajjh±saya½ gaºhitu½ sakkhiss±m²”ti ajjh±saye kaªkhi. Satth± “s±riputto pañhe nikkaªkho, ajjh±saye pana me kaªkhati, may± naye adinne kathetu½ na sakkhissati, nayamassa dass±m²”ti naya½ dadanto “bh³tamida½ s±riputta samanupass±”ti ±ha. Eva½ kirassa ahosi “s±riputto mama ajjh±saya½ gahetv± kathento khandhavasena kathessat²”ti. Therassa saha nayad±nena so pañho nayasatena nayasahassena upaµµh±si. So satth±r± dinnanaye µhatv± buddhavisaye pañha½ kathesi.

Satth± dv±dasayojanik±ya paris±ya dhamma½ desesi. Ti½sa p±ºakoµiyo amatap±na½ pivi½su. Satth± parisa½ uyyojetv± c±rika½ caranto anupubbena s±vatthi½ gantv± punadivase s±vatthiya½ piº¹±ya caritv± piº¹ap±tapaµikkanto bhikkh³hi vatte dassite gandhakuµi½ p±visi. S±yanhasamaye bhikkh³ therassa guºakatha½ kathent± dhammasabh±ya½ nis²di½su “mah±pañño, ±vuso, s±riputto puthupañño javanapañño tikkhapañño nibbedhikapañño dasabalena sa½khittena pucchitapañha½ vitth±rena kathes²”ti. Satth± ±gantv± “k±ya nuttha, bhikkhave, etarahi kath±ya sannisinn±”ti pucchitv± “im±ya n±m±”ti vutte “na, bhikkhave, id±neva, pubbepi esa sa½khittena bh±sitassa vitth±rena attha½ kathesiyev±”ti vatv± at²ta½ ±hari.
At²te b±r±ºasiya½ brahmadatte rajja½ k±rente bodhisatto sarabhamigayoniya½ nibbattitv± araññe vasati. R±j± migavittako ahosi th±masampanno, añña½ manussa½ “manusso”tipi na gaºeti. So ekadivasa½ migava½ gantv± amacce ±ha– “yassa passena migo pal±yati, tena so daº¹o d±tabbo”ti. Te cintayi½su “kad±ci vemajjhe µhitamiga½ vijjhanti, kad±ci uµµhita½, kad±ci pal±yantampi, ajja pana yena kenaci up±yena rañño µhitaµµh±naññeva ±ropess±m±”ti. Cintetv± ca pana katika½ katv± rañño dhuramagga½ ada½su. Te mahanta½ gumba½ parikkhipitv± muggar±d²hi bh³mi½ pothayi½su. Paµhamameva sarabhamigo uµµh±ya tikkhattu½ gubbha½ anuparigantv± pal±yanok±sa½ olokento sesadis±su manusse b±h±ya b±ha½ dhanun± dhanu½ ±hacca nirantare µhite disv± rañño µhitaµµh±neyeva ok±sa½ addasa. So umm²litesu akkh²su v±luka½ khipam±no viya r±j±na½ abhimukho agam±si. R±j± ta½ lahusampatta½ disv± sara½ ukkhipitv± vijjhi. Sarabhamig± n±ma sara½ vañcetu½ chek± honti, sare abhimukha½ ±gacchante vega½ h±petv± tiµµhanti, pacchato ±gacchante vegena purato javanti, uparibh±gen±gacchante piµµhi½ n±menti, passen±gacchante thoka½ apagacchanti, kucchi½ sandh±y±gacchante parivattitv± patanti, sare atikkante v±tacchinnaval±hakavegena pal±yanti.
Sopi r±j± tasmi½ parivattitv± patite “sarabhamigo me viddho”ti n±da½ muñci. Sarabho uµµh±ya v±tavegena pal±yi. Balamaº¹ala½ bhijjitv± ubhosu passesu µhita-amacc± sarabha½ pal±yam±na½ disv± ekato hutv± pucchi½su “migo kassa µhitaµµh±na½ abhiruh²”ti? “Rañño µhitaµµh±nan”ti “R±j± ‘viddho me’ti vadati, konena viddho, nibbirajjho bho amh±ka½ r±j±, bh³minena viddh±”ti te n±nappak±rena raññ± saddhi½ ke¼i½ kari½su. R±j± cintesi “ime ma½ parihasanti, na mama pam±ºa½ j±nant²”ti g±¼ha½ niv±setv± pattikova khagga½ ±d±ya “sarabha½ gaºhiss±m²”ti vegena pakkhandi. Atha na½ disv± t²ºi yojan±ni anubandhi. Sarabho arañña½ p±visi, r±j±pi p±visi. Tattha sarabhamigassa gamanamagge saµµhihatthamatto mah±p³tip±danarak±v±µo atthi, so ti½sahatthamatta½ udakena puººo tiºehi ca paµicchanno. Sarabho udakagandha½ gh±yitv±va ±v±µabh±va½ ñatv± thoka½ osakkitv± gato. R±j± pana ujukameva gacchanto tasmi½ pati.
