Bhikkh³ dhammasabh±ya½ katha½ samuµµh±pesu½ “akataññ³ ±vuso, devadatto akataved²”ti. Satth± ±gantv± “k±ya nuttha, bhikkhave, etarahi kath±ya sannisinn±”ti pucchitv± “im±ya n±m±”ti vutte “na, bhikkhave, devadatto id±neva akataññ³, pubbepi akataññ³yeva, pubbepesa may± j²vite dinnepi mama guºamatta½ na j±n±t²”ti vatv± at²ta½ ±hari.
At²te b±r±ºasiya½ brahmadatte rajja½ k±rente eko as²tikoµivibhavo seµµhi putta½ labhitv± “mah±dhanako”tissa, n±ma½ katv± “sippa½ uggaºhanto mama putto kilamissat²”ti na kiñci sippa½ uggaºh±pesi. Tattha advejjha½ katv±n±ti jiy±ya ca sarena ca saddhi½ ekameva katv±. Sannayh±ti sannayhitv±. ¾gameh²ti “tiµµha, mah±r±ja, m± ma½ vijjhi, j²vagg±hameva gaºh±h²”ti madhur±ya manussav±c±ya abh±si.
R±j± tassa madhurakath±ya bandhitv± dhanu½ ot±retv± g±ravena aµµh±si. Mah±sattopi r±j±na½ upasaªkamitv± madhurapaµisanth±ra½ katv± ekamanta½ aµµh±si. Mah±janopi sabb±vudh±ni cha¹¹etv± ±gantv± r±j±na½ pariv±resi. Tasmi½ khaºe mah±satto suvaººakiªkiºika½ c±lento viya madhurena sarena r±j±na½ pucchi “ko nu te idamakkh±si, ettheso tiµµhate migo”ti? Kaµµhañhi n±nappak±rena upak±r±ya sa½vattati, mittadubbh² pana p±papuggalo vin±s±ya, tasm± tato kaµµhameva varataranti por±ºakapaº¹it± kathayi½su, may± pana tesa½ vacana½ na katanti.

Tattha mig±nanti mig±namaññatara½ garahasi, ud±hu pakkh²na½, m±nus±nanti pucchi. Bhayañhi ma½ vindat²ti bhaya½ ma½ paµilabhati, aha½ attani anissaro bhayasantako viya homi. Anappar³panti mahanta½.
Tato mah±satto “mah±r±ja, na miga½, na pakkhi½ garah±mi, manussa½ pana garah±m²”ti dassento navama½ g±tham±ha–
125. “Yamuddhari½ v±hane vuyham±na½, mahodake salile s²ghasote;
tatonid±na½ bhayam±gata½ mama, dukkho have r±ja asabbhi saªgamo”ti.
Tattha v±haneti patitapatite vahitu½ samatthe gaªg±vahe. Mahodake salileti mah±-udake mah±salileti attho. Ubhayen±pi gaªg±vahasseva bahu-udakata½ dasseti. Tattha catuppattanti cat³hi v±japattehi samann±gata½. Vihaªgamanti ±k±sag±mi½. Tanucchidanti sar²rachindana½. Ossaj±m²ti etassa hadaye vissajjemi.

127. “Dh²rassa b±lassa have janinda, santo vadha½ nappasa½santi j±tu;
k±ma½ ghara½ gacchatu p±padhammo, yañcassa bhaµµha½ tadetassa dehi;
ahañca te k±makaro bhav±m²”ti.
Tattha k±manti k±mena yath±ruciy± attano ghara½ gacchatu. Yañcassa bhaµµha½ tadetassa deh²ti yañca tassa “ida½ n±ma te dass±m²”ti tay± kathita½, ta½ tassa dehi. K±makaroti icch±karo, ya½ icchasi, ta½ karohi, ma½sa½ v± me kh±da, k²¼±miga½ v± karohi, sabbattha te anuk³lavatt² bhaviss±m²ti attho.
