Ummujjanti nimujjant²ti ida½ satth± jetavane viharanto paññ±p±rami½ ±rabbha kathesi. Ekadivasañhi s±yanhasamaye tath±gatassa dhamma½ desetu½ nikkhamana½ ±gamayam±n± bhikkh³ dhammasabh±ya½ nis²ditv± “±vuso, aho satth± mah±pañño puthupañño h±sapañño javanapañño tikkhapañño nibbedhikapañño tatra tatra up±yapaññ±ya samann±gato vipul±ya pathav²sam±ya, mah±samuddo viya gambh²r±ya, ±k±so viya vitthiºº±ya, sakalajambud²pasmiñhi uµµhitapañho dasabala½ atikkamitv± gantu½ samattho n±ma natthi. Yath± mah±samudde uµµhita-³miyo vela½ n±tikkamanti, vela½ patv±va bhijjanti, eva½ na koci pañho dasabala½ atikkamati, satthu p±dam³la½ patv± bhijjatev±”ti dasabalassa mah±paññ±p±rami½ vaººesu½. Satth± ±gantv± “k±ya nuttha, bhikkhave, etarahi kath±ya sannisinn±”ti pucchitv± “im±ya n±m±”ti vutte “na, bhikkhave, tath±gato id±neva paññav±, pubbepi aparipakke ñ±ºe paññav±va, andho hutv±pi mah±samudde udakasaññ±ya ‘imasmi½ imasmi½ samudde ida½ n±ma ida½ n±ma ratanan’ti aññ±s²”ti vatv± at²ta½ ±hari. At²te kururaµµhe kurur±j± n±ma rajja½ k±resi, kurukaccha½ n±ma paµµanag±mo ahosi. Tad± bodhisatto kurukacche niy±makajeµµhakassa putto hutv± nibbatti p±s±diko suvaººavaººo, “supp±rakakum±ro”tissa n±ma½ kari½su. So mahantena pariv±rena va¹¹hanto so¼asavassak±leyeva niy±makasippe nipphatti½ patv± aparabh±ge pitu accayena niy±makajeµµhako hutv± niy±makakamma½ ak±si, paº¹ito ñ±ºasampanno ahosi. Tena ±ru¼han±v±ya by±patti n±ma natthi. Tassa aparabh±ge loºajalapahaµ±ni dvepi cakkh³ni nassi½su. So tato paµµh±ya niy±makajeµµhako hutv±pi niy±makakamma½ akatv± “r±j±na½ niss±ya j²viss±m²”ti r±j±na½ upasaªkami. Atha na½ r±j± aggh±paniyakamme µhapesi. So tato paµµh±ya rañño hatthiratana-assaratanamuttas±ramaºis±r±d²ni aggh±pesi. Athekadivasa½ “rañño maªgalahatth² bhavissat²”ti k±¼ap±s±ºak³µavaººa½ eka½ v±raºa½ ±nesu½. Ta½ disv± r±j± “paº¹itassa dasseth±”ti ±ha. Atha na½ tassa santika½ nayi½su. So hatthena tassa sar²ra½ parimajjitv± “n±ya½ maªgalahatth² bhavitu½ anucchaviko, p±dehi v±manadh±tuko esa, etañhi m±t± vij±yam±n± aªkena sampaµicchitu½ n±sakkhi, tasm± bh³miya½ patitv± pacchimap±dehi v±manadh±tuko hot²”ti ±ha. Hatthi½ gahetv± ±gate pucchi½su. Te “sacca½ paº¹ito kathet²”ti vadi½su. Ta½ k±raºa½ r±j± sutv± tuµµho tassa aµµha kah±paºe d±pesi. Punekadivasa½ “rañño maªgala-asso bhavissat²”ti eka½ assa½ ±nayi½su. Tampi r±j± paº¹itassa santika½ pesesi. So tampi hatthena par±masitv± “aya½ maªgala-asso bhavitu½ na yutto, etassa hi j±tadivaseyeva m±t± mari, tasm± m±tu kh²ra½ alabhanto na samm± va¹¹hito”ti ±ha. S±pissa kath± sacc±va ahosi. Tampi sutv± r±j± tussitv± aµµha kah±paºe d±pesi. Athekadivasa½ “rañño maªgalaratho bhavissat²”ti ratha½ ±hari½su. Tampi r±j± tassa santika½ pesesi. So tampi hatthena par±masitv± “aya½ ratho susirarukkhena kato, tasm± rañño n±nucchaviko”ti ±ha. S±pissa kath± sacc±va ahosi. R±j± tampi sutv± aµµheva kah±paºe d±pesi. Athassa mahaggha½ kambalaratana½ ±hari½su. Tampi tasseva pesesi. So tampi hatthena par±masitv± “imassa m³sikacchinna½ ekaµµh±na½ atth²”ti ±ha. Sodhent± ta½ disv± rañño ±rocesu½. R±j± sutv± tussitv± aµµheva kah±paºe d±pesi. So cintesi “aya½ r±j± evar³p±nipi acchariy±ni disv± aµµheva kah±paºe d±pesi, imassa d±yo nh±pitad±yo, nh±pitaj±tiko bhavissati, ki½ me evar³pena r±jupaµµh±nena, attano vasanaµµh±nameva gamiss±m²”ti. So kurukacchapaµµanameva pacc±gami. Tasmi½ tattha vasante v±ºij± n±va½ sajjetv± “ka½ niy±maka½ kariss±m±”ti mantesu½. “Supp±rakapaº¹itena ±ru¼han±v± na by±pajjati, esa paº¹ito up±yakusalo, andho sam±nopi supp±rakapaº¹itova uttamo”ti ta½ upasaªkamitv± “niy±mako no hoh²”ti vatv± “t±t±, aha½ andho, katha½ niy±makakamma½ kariss±m²”ti vutte “s±mi, andh±pi tumheyeva amh±ka½ uttam±”ti punappuna½ y±ciyam±no “s±dhu t±t±, tumhehi ±rocitasaññ±ya niy±mako bhaviss±m²”ti tesa½ n±va½ abhiruhi. Te n±v±ya mah±samudda½ pakkhandi½su. N±v± satta divas±ni nirupaddav± agam±si, tato ak±lav±ta½ upp±tita½ uppajji, n±v± catt±ro m±se pakatisamuddapiµµhe vicaritv± khuram±l²samudda½ n±ma patt±. N±v±ya vippanaµµh±y±ti t±ta tumh±ka½ im±ya videsa½ pakkhandan±v±ya kammak±raka½ pakatisamudda½ atikkamitv± sampatto aya½ samuddo “khuram±l²”ti vuccati, evameta½ paº¹it± kathent²ti. Tasmi½ pana samudde vajira½ ussanna½ hoti. Mah±satto “sac±ha½ ‘aya½ vajirasamuddo’ti eva½ etesa½ kathess±mi, lobhena bahu½ vajira½ gaºhitv± n±va½ os²d±pessant²”ti tesa½ an±cikkhitv±va n±va½ lagg±petv± up±yeneka½ yotta½ gahetv± macchagahaºaniy±mena j±la½ khip±petv± vajiras±ra½ uddharitv± n±v±ya½ pakkhipitv± añña½ appagghabhaº¹a½ cha¹¹±pesi. Ve¼³ti pana pav±¼asseta½ n±ma½, so ca samuddo pav±¼ussanno rattobh±so ahosi, tasm± “yath± na¼ova ve¼uv±”ti pucchi½su. Mah±satto tato pav±¼a½ g±h±pes²ti. V±ºij± na¼am±li½ atikkant± balav±mukhasamudda½ n±ma passi½su. Tattha udaka½ ka¹¹hitv± ka¹¹hitv± sabbato bh±gena uggacchati. Tasmi½ sabbato bh±gena uggate udaka½ sabbato bh±gena chinnapap±tamah±sobbho viya paññ±yati, ³miy± uggat±ya ekato pap±tasadisa½ hoti, bhayajanano saddo uppajjati sot±ni bhindanto viya hadaya½ ph±lento viya ca. 118. “Mahabbhayo bhi½sanako, saddo suyyatim±nuso;
yath± sobbho pap±tova, samuddo paµidissati;
supp±raka½ ta½ pucch±ma, samuddo katamo ayan”ti.–

Bodhisatto anantarag±th±ya tassa n±ma½ ±cikkhitv± “t±t±, ima½ balav±mukhasamudda½ patv± nivattitu½ samatth± n±v± n±ma natthi, aya½ sampattan±va½ nimujj±petv± vin±sa½ p±pet²”ti ±ha. Tañca n±va½ satta manussasat±ni abhiruhi½su. Te sabbe maraºabhayabh²t± ekappah±reneva av²cimhi paccam±nasatt± viya atik±ruñña½ rava½ muñci½su. Mah±satto “µhapetv± ma½ añño etesa½ sotthibh±va½ k±tu½ samattho n±ma natthi, saccakiriy±ya tesa½ sotthi½ kariss±m²”ti cintetv± te ±mantetv± ±ha– “t±t±, khippa½ ma½ gandhodakena nh±petv± ahatavatth±ni niv±s±petv± puººap±ti½ sajjetv± n±v±ya dhure µhapeth±”ti. Te vegena tath± kari½su. Mah±satto ubhohi hatthehi puººap±ti½ gahetv± n±v±ya dhure µhito saccakiriya½ karonto os±nag±tham±ha–
120. “Yato sar±mi att±na½, yato pattosmi viññuta½;
n±bhij±n±mi sañcicca, ekap±ºampi hi½sita½;
etena saccavajjena, sotthi½ n±v± nivattat³”ti.
Tattha yatoti yato paµµh±ya aha½ att±na½ sar±mi, yato paµµh±ya camhi viññuta½ pattoti attho. Ekap±ºampi hi½sitanti etthantare sañcicca eka½ kunthakipillikap±ºampi hi½sita½ n±bhij±n±mi. Desan±mattameveta½, bodhisatto pana tiºasal±kampi up±d±ya may± parasantaka½ na gahitapubba½, lobhavasena parad±ra½ na olokitapubba½, mus± na bh±sitapubb±, tiºaggen±pi majja½ na pivitapubbanti eva½ pañcas²lavasena pana saccakiriya½ ak±si, katv± ca pana puººap±tiy± udaka½ n±v±ya dhure abhisiñci. Catt±ro m±se videsa½ pakkhandan±v± nivattitv± iddhim± viya sacc±nubh±vena ekadivaseneva kurukacchapaµµana½ agam±si. Gantv± ca pana thalepi aµµhusabhamatta½ µh±na½ pakkhanditv± n±vikassa gharadv±reyeva aµµh±si. Mah±satto tesa½ v±ºij±na½ suvaººarajatamaºipav±¼amuttavajir±ni bh±jetv± ad±si. “Ettakehi vo ratanehi ala½, m± puna samudda½ pavisath±”ti tesa½ ov±da½ datv± y±vaj²va½ d±n±d²ni puññ±ni katv± devapura½ p³resi. Satth± ima½ dhammadesana½ ±haritv± “eva½, bhikkhave, pubbepi tath±gato mah±paññoyev±”ti vatv± j±taka½ samodh±nesi– “tad± paris± buddhaparis± ahesu½, supp±rakapaº¹ito pana ahameva ahosin”ti.
