Tattha khaggavis±ºasuttassa avisesena pucch±vasito uppatti. Visesena pana yasm± ettha k±ci g±th± tena tena paccekasambuddhena puµµhena vutt±, k±ci apuµµhena attan± adhigatamagganay±nur³pa½ ud±na½yeva ud±nentena, tasm± k±yaci g±th±ya pucch±vasito, k±yaci attajjh±sayato uppatti. Tattha y± aya½ avisesena pucch±vasito uppatti, s± ±dito pabhuti eva½ veditabb±– eka½ samaya½ bhagav± s±vatthiya½ viharati. Atha kho ±yasmato ±nandassa rahogatassa paµisall²nassa eva½ cetaso parivitakko udap±di– “buddh±na½ patthan± ca abhin²h±ro ca dissati; tath± s±vak±na½, paccekabuddh±na½ na dissati; ya½n³n±ha½ bhagavanta½ upasaªkamitv± puccheyyan”ti. So paµisall±n± vuµµhito bhagavanta½ upasaªkamitv± yath±kkamena etamattha½ pucchi. Athassa bhagav± pubbayog±vacarasutta½ abh±si– “Pañcime, ±nanda, ±nisa½s± pubbayog±vacare diµµheva dhamme paµikacceva añña½ ±r±dheti. No ce diµµheva dhamme paµikacceva añña½ ±r±dheti, atha maraºak±le añña½ ±r±dheti. No ce maraºak±le añña½ ±r±dheti, atha devaputto sam±no añña½ ±r±dheti, atha buddh±na½ sammukh²bh±ve khipp±bhiñño hoti, atha pacchime k±le paccekasambuddho hot²”ti–

Buddh±na½, ±nanda, heµµhimaparicchedena catt±ri asaªkhyeyy±ni kappasatasahassañca, majjhimaparicchedena aµµha asaªkhyeyy±ni kappasatasahassañca, uparimaparicchedena so¼asa asaªkhyeyy±ni kappasatasahassañca. Ete ca bhed± paññ±dhikasaddh±dhikav²riy±dhikavasena ñ±tabb±. Paññ±dhik±nañhi saddh± mand± hoti, paññ± tikkh±. Saddh±dhik±na½ paññ± majjhim± hoti, saddh± balav±. V²riy±dhik±na½ saddh±paññ± mand±, v²riya½ balavanti. Appatv± pana catt±ri asaªkhyeyy±ni kappasatasahassañca divase divase vessantarad±nasadisa½ d±na½ dentopi tadanur³pas²l±disabbap±ramidhamme ±cinantopi antar± buddho bhavissat²ti neta½ µh±na½ vijjati. Kasm±? ѱºa½ gabbha½ na gaºh±ti, vepulla½ n±pajjati, parip±ka½ na gacchat²ti. Yath± n±ma tim±sacatum±sapañcam±saccayena nipphajjanaka½ sassa½ ta½ ta½ k±la½ appatv± divase divase sahassakkhattu½ ke¼±yantopi udakena siñcantopi antar± pakkhena v± m±sena v± nipph±dessat²ti neta½ µh±na½ vijjati. Abhin²h±roti ca m³lapaºidh±nasseta½ adhivacana½. Tattha manussattanti manussaj±ti. Aññatra hi manussaj±tiy± avasesaj±t²su devaj±tiyampi µhitassa paºidhi na ijjhati. Ettha µhitena pana buddhatta½ patthentena d±n±d²ni puññakamm±ni katv± manussatta½yeva patthetabba½. Tattha µhatv± paºidhi k±tabbo. Evañhi samijjhati. Liªgasampatt²ti purisabh±vo. M±tug±manapu½saka-ubhatobyañjanak±nañhi manussaj±tiya½ µhit±nampi paºidhi na samijjhati. Tattha µhitena pana buddhatta½ patthentena d±n±d²ni puññakamm±ni katv± purisabh±voyeva patthetabbo. Tattha µhatv± paºidhi k±tabbo. Evañhi samijjhati. Het³ti arahattassa upanissayasampatti. Yo hi tasmi½ attabh±ve v±yamanto arahatta½ p±puºitu½ samattho, tassa samijjhati, no itarassa, yath± sumedhapaº¹itassa. So hi d²paªkarap±dam³le pabbajitv± tenattabh±vena arahatta½ p±puºitu½ samattho ahosi Satth±radassananti buddh±na½ sammukh±dassana½. Evañhi ijjhati, no aññath±; yath± sumedhapaº¹itassa. So hi d²paªkara½ sammukh± disv± paºidhesi. Pabbajj±ti anag±riyabh±vo. So ca kho s±sane v± kammav±dikiriyav±dit±pasaparibb±jakanik±ye v± vaµµati yath± sumedhapaº¹itassa. So hi sumedho n±ma t±paso hutv± paºidhesi. Guºasampatt²ti jh±n±diguºapaµil±bho. Pabbajitass±pi hi guºasampannasseva ijjhati, no itarassa; yath± sumedhapaº¹itassa. So hi pañc±bhiñño aµµhasam±pattil±bh² ca hutv± paºidhesi. Adhik±roti adhikak±ro, paricc±goti attho. J²vit±diparicc±gañhi katv± paºidahatoyeva ijjhati, no itarassa; yath± sumedhapaº¹itassa. So hi–
“Akkamitv±na ma½ buddho, saha sissehi gacchatu;

Tath± yadi koci vadeyya “ko sakalacakkav±¼a½ v²taccik±na½ aªg±r±na½ p³ra½ akkamanto atikkamitv± buddhatta½ icchati, ko sakalacakkav±¼a½ sattis³lehi ±kiººa½ akkamanto atikkamitv± buddhatta½ icchati, ko sakalacakkav±¼a½ samatittika½ udakapuººa½ uttaritv± buddhatta½ icchati, ko sakalacakkav±¼a½ nirantara½ ve¼ugumbasañchanna½ maddanto atikkamitv± buddhatta½ icchat²”ti ta½ sutv± yo “ahan”ti vattu½ ussahati, tassa balavat²ti veditabb±. So hi tato pabhuti na jaccandho hoti, na jaccabadhiro, na ummattako, na e¼am³go, na p²µhasapp², na milakkh³su uppajjati, na d±sikucchiy± nibbattati, na niyatamicch±diµµhiko hoti, n±ssa liªga½ parivattati, na pañc±nantariyakamm±ni karoti, na kuµµh² hoti, na tiracch±nayoniya½ vaµµakato pacchimattabh±vo hoti, na khuppip±sikanijjh±mataºhikapetesu uppajjati, na k±lakañcik±suresu, na av²ciniraye, na lokantarikesu, k±m±vacaresu na m±ro hoti, r³p±vacaresu na asaññ²bhave, na suddh±v±sabhavesu uppajjati, na ar³pabhavesu, na añña½ cakkav±¼a½ saªkamati.
