Tena ca samayena bhagav± s±vatthiya½ viharati. Abhir³panand± abhir³p± eva ahosi dassan²y± p±s±dik±, tenevass± abhir³panand±ti n±mamaka½su. Janapadakaly±º² nand±pi r³pena attan± sadisa½ na passati. T± ubhopi r³pamadamatt± “bhagav± r³pa½ vivaººeti, garahati, anekapariy±yena r³pe ±d²nava½ dasset²”ti bhagavato upaµµh±na½ na gacchanti, daµµhumpi na icchanti. Eva½ appasann± kasm± pabbajit±ti ce? Agatiy±. Abhir³panand±ya hi v±reyyadivaseyeva s±miko sakyakum±ro k±lamak±si. Atha na½ m±t±pitaro ak±maka½ pabb±jesu½. Janapadakaly±º² nand±pi ±yasmante nande arahatta½ patte nir±s± hutv± “mayha½ s±miko ca m±t± ca mah±paj±pati aññe ca ñ±tak± pabbajit±, ñ±t²hi vin± dukkho ghar±v±so”ti ghar±v±se ass±damalabhant² pabbajit±, na saddh±ya.
Atha bhagav± t±sa½ ñ±ºaparip±ka½ viditv± mah±paj±pati½ ±º±pesi “sabb±pi bhikkhuniyo paµip±µiy± ov±da½ ±gacchant³”ti T± attano v±re sampatte añña½ pesenti. Tato bhagav± “sampatte v±re attan±va ±gantabba½, na aññ± pesetabb±”ti ±ha. Athekadivasa½ abhir³panand± agam±si. Ta½ bhagav± nimmitar³pena sa½vejetv± “aµµh²na½ nagara½ katan”ti im±ya dhammapadag±th±ya–
“¾tura½ asuci½ p³ti½, passa nande samussaya½;
uggharanta½ paggharanta½, b±l±na½ abhipatthita½. (Ther²g±. 19).
“Animittañca bh±vehi, m±n±nusayamujjaha;
tato m±n±bhisamay±, upasant± carissas²”ti. (Su. ni. 344; ther²g±. 20)–

Tasm± sabbaµµh±nesu bhagavato vaººa½ bh±santi. Janapadakaly±º² nand± bhikkhunipassaya½ patv±pi anekapariy±yena bhagavato vaººa½ bh±sant±na½ tesa½ sutv± bhagavanta½ upagantuk±m± hutv± bhikkhun²na½ ±rocesi. Bhikkhuniyo ta½ gahetv± bhagavanta½ upasaªkami½su.

Bhagav± paµikacceva tass±gamana½ viditv± kaºµakena kaºµaka½, ±ºiy± ca ±ºi½ n²harituk±mo puriso viya r³peneva r³pamada½ vinetu½ attano iddhibalena pannarasaso¼asavassuddesika½ atidassan²ya½ itthi½ passe µhatv± b²jam±na½ abhinimmini. Nand± bhikkhun²hi saddhi½ upasaªkamitv±, bhagavanta½ vanditv±, bhikkhunisaªghassa antare nis²ditv±, p±datal± pabhuti y±va kesagg± bhagavato r³pasampatti½ disv± puna ta½ bhagavato passe µhita½ nimmatar³pañca disv± “aho aya½ itth² r³pavat²”ti attano r³pamada½ jahitv± tass± r³pe abhirattabh±v± ahosi. Tato bhagav± ta½ itthi½ v²sativassappam±ºa½ katv± dassesi. M±tug±mo hi so¼asavassuddesikoyeva sobhati, na tato uddha½. Atha tass± r³paparih±ni½ disv± nand±ya tasmi½ r³pe chandar±go tanuko ahosi. Tato bhagav± avij±tavaººa½, saki½vij±tavaººa½, majjhimitthivaººa½, mahitthivaººanti eva½ y±va vassasatika½ obhagga½ daº¹apar±yaºa½ tilak±hatagatta½ katv±, dassetv± passam±n±yeva nand±ya tass± maraºa½ uddhum±tak±dibheda½ k±k±d²hi sampariv±retv± khajjam±na½ duggandha½ jegucchapaµik³labh±vañca dassesi Nand±ya ta½ kama½ disv± “evameva½ mamapi aññesampi sabbas±dh±raºo aya½ kamo”ti aniccasaññ± saºµh±si, tadanus±rena ca dukkhanattasaññ±pi, tayo bhav± ±dittamiva ag±ra½ appaµisaraº± hutv± upaµµhahi½su. Atha bhagav± “kammaµµh±ne pakkhanta½ nand±ya cittan”ti ñatv± tass± sapp±yavasena im± g±th±yo abh±si–
“¾tura½ asuci½ p³ti½, passa nande samussaya½;
uggharanta½ paggharanta½, b±l±na½ abhipatthita½. (Ther²g±. 19).
“Yath± ida½ tath± eta½, yath± eta½ tath± ida½;
dh±tuso suññato passa, m± loka½ punar±gami;
bhave chanda½ vir±jetv±, upasant± carissas²”ti. (Su. ni. 205).
G±th±pariyos±ne nand± sot±pattiphale patiµµh±si. Athass± bhagav± uparimagg±dhigamattha½ suññatapariv±ra½ vipassan±kammaµµh±na½ kathento ima½ suttamabh±si. Aya½ t±vassa ek± uppatti.
Bhagavati pana r±jagahe viharante y± s± c²varakkhandhake (mah±va. 326) vitth±rato vuttasamuµµh±n±ya s±lavatiy± gaºik±ya dh²t± j²vakassa kaniµµh± sirim± n±ma m±tu accayena ta½ µh±na½ labhitv± “akkodhena jine kodhan”ti (dha. pa. 223; j±. 1.2.1) imiss± g±th±ya vatthumhi puººakaseµµhidh²tara½ avamaññitv±, bhagavanta½ kham±pent² dhammadesana½ sutv±, sot±pann± hutv± aµµha niccabhatt±ni pavattesi. Ta½ ±rabbha aññataro niccabhattiko bhikkhu r±ga½ upp±desi. ¾h±rakiccampi ca k±tu½ asakkonto nir±h±ro nipajj²ti dhammapadag±th±vatthumhi vutta½. Tasmi½ tath±nipanneyeva sirim± k±la½ katv± y±mabhavane suy±massa dev² ahosi. Atha tass± sar²rassa aggikicca½ niv±retv± ±makasus±ne raññ± nikkhip±pita½ sar²ra½ dassan±ya bhagav± bhikkhusaªghaparivuto agam±si, tampi bhikkhu½ ±d±ya, tath± n±gar± ca r±j± ca. Tattha manuss± bhaºanti “pubbe sirim±ya aµµhuttarasahassen±pi dassana½ dullabha½ ta½ d±najja k±kaºik±y±pi daµµhuk±mo natth²”ti. Sirim±pi devakaññ± pañcahi rathasatehi parivut± tatr±gam±si. Tatr±pi bhagav± sannipatit±na½ dhammadesanattha½ ima½ sutta½ tassa bhikkhuno ov±dattha½ “passa cittakata½ bimban”ti (dha. pa. 147) imañca dhammapadag±tha½ abh±si. Ayamassa dutiy± uppatti.
195. Tattha cara½ v±ti sakalar³pak±yassa gantabbadis±bhimukhen±bhin²h±rena gacchanto v±. Yadi v± tiµµhanti tasseva uss±panabh±vena tiµµhanto v±. Nisinno uda v± sayanti tasseva heµµhimabh±gasamiñjana-uparimabh±gasamuss±panabh±vena nisinno v±, tiriya½ pas±raºabh±vena sayanto v±. Samiñjeti pas±ret²ti t±ni t±ni pabb±ni samiñjeti ca pas±reti ca.
Es± k±yassa iñjan±ti sabb±pes± imasseva saviññ±ºakassa k±yassa iñjan± calan± phandan±, natthettha añño koci caranto v± pas±rento v±, apica kho pana “car±m²”ti citte uppajjante ta½samuµµh±n± v±yodh±tu k±ya½ pharati, tenassa gantabbadis±bhimukho abhin²h±ro hoti, desantare r³pantarap±tubh±voti attho. Tena “caran”ti vuccati. Tath± “tiµµh±m²”ti citte uppajjante ta½samuµµh±n± v±yodh±tu k±ya½ pharati, tenassa samuss±pana½ hoti, upar³pariµµh±nena r³pap±tubh±voti attho. Tena “tiµµhan”ti vuccati. Tath± “nis²d±m²”ti citte uppajjante ta½samuµµh±n± v±yodh±tu k±ya½ pharati, tenassa heµµhimabh±gasamiñjanañca uparimabh±gasamuss±panañca hoti, tath±bh±vena r³pap±tubh±voti attho. Tena “nisinno”ti vuccati. Tath± “say±m²”ti citte uppajjante ta½samuµµh±n± v±yodh±tu k±ya½ pharati, tenassa tiriya½ pas±raºa½ hoti, tath±bh±vena r³pap±tubh±voti attho. Tena “sayan”ti vuccati.
Eva½ c±yam±yasm± yo koci itthann±mo cara½ v± yadi v± tiµµha½, nisinno uda v± saya½ yameta½ tattha tattha iriy±pathe tesa½ tesa½ pabb±na½ samiñjanappas±raºavasena samiñjeti pas±ret²ti vuccati. Tampi yasm± samiñjanappas±raºacitte uppajjam±ne yath±vutteneva nayena hoti, tasm± es± k±yassa iñjan±, natthettha añño koci, suññamida½ kenaci carantena v± pas±rentena v± sattena v± puggalena v±. Kevala½ pana–
“Cittan±nattam±gamma, n±natta½ hoti v±yuno;
v±yun±nattato n±n±, hoti k±yassa iñjan±”ti.–
