Yodha taŗhanti ima½ dhammadesana½ satth± ve¼uvane viharanto jaµilatthera½ ±rabbha kathesi.
Tatr±ya½ anupubb² kath±– at²te kira b±r±ŗasiya½ dve bh±taro kuµumbik± mahanta½ ucchukhetta½ k±resu½. Athekadivasa½ kaniµµhabh±t± ucchukhetta½ gantv± “eka½ jeµµhabh±tikassa dass±mi, eka½ mayha½ bhavissat²”ti dve ucchuyaµµhiyo rasassa anikkhamanatth±ya chinnaµµh±ne bandhitv± gaŗhi. Tad± kira ucch³na½ yantena p²¼anakicca½ natthi, agge v± m³le v± chinditv± ukkhittak±le dhammakaraŗato udaka½ viya sayameva raso nikkhamati. Tassa pana khettato ucchuyaµµhiyo gahetv± ±gamanak±le gandham±dane paccekabuddho sam±pattito vuµµh±ya “kassa nu kho ajja anuggaha½ kariss±m²”ti upadh±rento ta½ attano ń±ŗaj±le paviµµha½ disv± saŖgaha½ k±tu½ samatthabh±vańca ńatv± pattac²vara½ ±d±ya iddhiy± ±gantv± tassa purato aµµh±si. So ta½ disv±va pasannacitto uttaras±µaka½ uccatare bh³mipadese attharitv±, “bhante, idha nis²dath±”ti paccekabuddha½ nis²d±petv± “patta½ upan±meth±”ti ucchuyaµµhiy± bandhanaµµh±na½ mocetv± pattassa upari ak±si, raso otaritv± patta½ p³resi. Paccekabuddhena tasmi½ rase p²te “s±dhuka½ vata me ayyena raso p²to. Sace me jeµµhabh±tiko m³la½ ±har±pessati, m³la½ dass±mi. Sace patti½ ±har±pessati, patti½ dass±m²”ti cintetv±, “bhante, patta½ me upan±meth±”ti dutiyampi ucchuyaµµhi½ mocetv± rasa½ ad±si. “Bh±t± me ucchukhettato ańńa½ ucchu½ ±haritv± kh±dissat²”ti ettakampi kirassa vańcanacitta½ n±hosi. Paccekabuddho pana paµhama½ ucchurasassa p²tatt± ta½ ucchurasa½ ańńehipi saddhi½ sa½vibhajituk±mo hutv± gahetv±va nis²di So tassa ±k±ra½ ńatv± pańcapatiµµhitena vanditv±, “bhante, yo aya½ may± dinno aggaraso, imassa nissandena devamanussesu sampatti½ anubhavitv± pariyos±ne tumhehi pattadhammameva p±puŗeyyan”ti patthana½ paµµhapesi. Paccekabuddhopissa “eva½ hot³”ti vatv± “icchita½ patthita½ tuyhan”ti dv²hi g±th±hi anumodana½ katv± yath± so passati, eva½ adhiµµhahitv± ±k±sena gandham±dana½ gantv± pańcanna½ paccekabuddhasat±na½ ta½ rasa½ ad±si.
So ta½ p±µih±riya½ disv± bh±tu santika½ gantv± “kaha½ gatos²”ti vutte “ucchukhetta½ oloketu½ gatomh²”ti. “Ki½ t±disena ucchukhetta½ gatena, nanu n±ma eka½ v± dve v± ucchuyaµµhiyo ±d±ya ±gantabba½ bhaveyy±”ti bh±tar± vutto– “±ma, bh±tika, dve me ucchuyaµµhiyo gahit±, eka½ pana paccekabuddha½ disv± mama ucchuyaµµhito rasa½ datv± ‘m³la½ v± patti½ v± dass±m²’ti tumh±kampi me ucchuyaµµhito raso dinno, ki½ nu kho tassa m³la½ gaŗhissatha, ud±hu pattin”ti ±ha. “Ki½ pana paccekabuddhena katan”ti? “Mama ucchuyaµµhito rasa½ pivitv± tumh±ka½ ucchuyaµµhito rasa½ ±d±ya ±k±sena gandham±dana½ gantv± pańcasat±na½ paccekabuddh±na½ ad±s²”ti. So tasmi½ kathenteyeva nirantara½ p²tiy± phuµµhasar²ro hutv± “tena me paccekabuddhena diµµhadhammasseva adhigamo bhaveyy±”ti patthana½ ak±si. Eva½ kaniµµhena tisso sampattiyo patthit±, jeµµhena pana ekapadeneva arahatta½ patthitanti ida½ tesa½ pubbakamma½.
Te y±vat±yuka½ µhatv± tato cut± devaloke nibbattitv± eka½ buddhantara½ khepayi½su. Tesa½ devaloke µhitak±leyeva vipass² samm±sambuddho loke uppajji. Tepi devalokato cavitv± bandhumatiy± ekasmi½ kulagehe jeµµho jeµµhova, kaniµµho kaniµµhova hutv± paµisandhi½ gaŗhi½su. Tesu jeµµhassa senoti n±ma½ aka½su, kaniµµhassa apar±jitoti Tesu vayappattak±le kuµumba½ saŗµh±petv± viharantesu “buddharatana½ loke uppanna½, dhammaratana½, saŖgharatana½, d±n±ni detha, puńń±ni karotha, ajja aµµham², ajja c±tuddas², ajja pannaras², uposatha½ karotha, dhamma½ suŗ±th±”ti dhammaghosakassa bandhumat²nagare ghosana½ sutv± mah±jana½ purebhatta½ d±na½ datv± pacch±bhatta½ dhammassavan±ya gacchanta½ disv± senakuµumbiko “kaha½ gacchath±”ti pucchitv± “satthu santika½ dhammassavan±y±”ti vutte “ahampi gamiss±m²”ti tehi saddhi½yeva gantv± parisapariyante nis²di.
Satth± tassa ajjh±saya½ viditv± anupubbi½ katha½ kathesi. So satthu dhamma½ sutv± pabbajj±ya uss±haj±to satth±ra½ pabbajja½ y±ci. Atha na½ satth± “atthi pana te apaloketabb± ń±tak±”ti pucchi. Atthi, bhanteti. Tena hi apaloketv± eh²ti. So kaniµµhassa santika½ gantv± “ya½ imasmi½ kule s±pateyya½, ta½ sabba½ tava hot³”ti ±ha. Tumhe pana, s±m²ti. Aha½ satthu santike pabbajiss±m²ti. S±mi ki½ vadetha, aha½ m±tari mat±ya m±tara½ viya, pitari mate pitara½ viya tumhe alattha½, ida½ kula½ mah±bhoga½, gehe µhiteneva sakk± puńń±ni k±tu½, m± eva½ karitth±ti. May± satthu santike dhammo suto, na sakk± ta½ ag±ramajjhe µhitena p³retu½, pabbajiss±mev±ha½, tva½ nivatt±h²ti. Eva½ so kaniµµha½ nivatt±petv± satthu santike pabbajitv± laddh³pasampado na cirasseva arahatta½ p±puŗi. Kaniµµhopi “bh±tu pabbajitasakk±ra½ kariss±m²”ti satt±ha½ buddhappamukhassa bhikkhusaŖghassa d±na½ datv± bh±tara½ vanditv± ±ha– “bhante, tumhehi attano bhavanissaraŗa½ kata½, aha½ pana pańcahi k±maguŗehi baddho nikkhamitv± pabbajitu½ na sakkomi, mayha½ gehe µhitasseva anucchavika½ mahanta½ puńńakamma½ ±cikkhath±”ti. Atha na½ thero “s±dhu s±dhu, paŗ¹ita, satthu gandhakuµi½ karoh²”ti ±ha. So “s±dh³”ti sampaµicchitv± n±n±d±r³ni ±har±petv± thambh±d²na½ atth±ya tacch±petv± eka½ suvaŗŗakhacita½, eka½ rajatakhacita½, eka½ maŗikhacitanti sabb±ni sattaratanakhacit±ni k±retv± tehi gandhakuµi½ k±retv± sattaratanakhacit±heva chadaniµµhak±hi ch±d±pesi. Gandhakuµiy± karaŗak±leyeva pana ta½ attan± sam±nan±mako apar±jitoyeva n±ma bh±gineyyo upasaŖkamitv± “ahampi kariss±mi, mayhampi patti½ detha m±tul±”ti ±ha. Na demi, t±ta, ańńehi as±dh±raŗa½ kariss±m²ti. So bahumpi y±citv± patti½ alabham±no “gandhakuµiy± purato kuńjaras±la½ laddhu½ vaµµat²”ti sattaratanamaya½ kuńjaras±la½ k±resi. So imasmi½ buddhupp±de meŗ¹akaseµµhi hutv± nibbatti.
Gandhakuµiya½ pana sattaratanamay±ni t²ŗi mah±v±tap±n±ni ahesu½. Tesa½ abhimukhe heµµh± sudh±parikammakat± tisso pokkharaŗiyo k±retv± catujj±tikagandhodakassa p³retv± apar±jito, gahapati, pańcavaŗŗ±ni kusum±ni rop±pesi tath±gatassa anto nisinnak±le v±tavegena samuµµhit±hi reŗuvaµµ²hi sar²rassa okiraŗattha½. Gandhakuµith³pik±ya kapalla½ rattasuvaŗŗamaya½ ahosi, pav±¼amay± sikhar±, heµµh± maŗimay± chadaniµµhak±. Iti s± naccanto viya moro sobham±n± aµµh±si. Sattasu pana ratanesu koµµetabbayuttaka½ koµµetv± itara½ sakalameva gahetv± jaŗŗumattena odhin± gandhakuµi½ parikkhipitv± pariveŗa½ p³resi.
Eva½ gandhakuµi½ niµµh±petv± apar±jito, gahapati, bh±tikatthera½ upasaŖkamitv± ±ha– “bhante, niµµhit± gandhakuµi, paribhogamass± pacc±s²s±mi, paribhogena kira mahanta½ puńńa½ hot²”ti So satth±ra½ upasaŖkamitv±, “bhante, imin± kira vo kuµumbikena gandhakuµi k±rit±, id±ni pana paribhoga½ pacc±s²sat²”ti ±ha. Satth± uµµh±y±san± gandhakuµi-abhimukha½ gantv± gandhakuµi½ parikkhipitv± parikkhittaratanar±si½ olokento dv±rakoµµhake aµµh±si. Atha na½ kuµumbiko “pavisatha, bhante”ti ±ha. Satth± tattheva µhatv± tatiyav±re tassa bh±tikatthera½ olokesi. So olokit±k±reneva ńatv± kaniµµhabh±tara½ ±ha– “ehi, t±ta, ‘mameva rakkh± bhavissati, tumhe yath±sukha½ vasath±’ti satth±ra½ vadeh²”ti. So tassa vacana½ sutv± satth±ra½ pańcapatiµµhitena vanditv±, “bhante, yath± manuss± rukkham³le pavisitv± anapekkh± pakkamanti, yath± v± nadi½ taritv± u¼umpa½ anapekkh± pariccajanti, eva½ anapekkh± hutv± tumhe vasath±”ti ±ha. Kimattha½ pana satth± aµµh±si? Eva½ kirassa ahosi– “buddh±na½ santika½ purebhattampi pacch±bhattampi bah³ ±gacchanti, tesu ratan±ni ±d±ya pakkamantesu na sakk± amhehi v±retu½, pariveŗamhi ettake ratane vokiŗŗe attano upaµµh±ke harantepi na v±ret²ti kuµumbiko mayi ±gh±ta½ katv± ap±y³pago bhaveyy±”ti imin± k±raŗena aµµh±si. Tena pana “bhante, mameva rakkh± bhavissati, tumhe vasath±”ti vutte p±visi.
Kuµumbiko samant± rakkha½ µhapetv± manusse ±ha– “t±t±, ucchaŖgena v± pacchipasibbakehi v± ±d±ya gacchante v±reyy±tha, hatthena gahetv± gacchante pana m± v±rayitth±”ti. Antonagarepi ±roc±pesi “may± gandhakuµipariveŗe satta ratan±ni okiŗŗ±ni, satthu santike dhamma½ sutv± gacchant± duggatamanuss± ubho hatthe p³retv± gaŗhantu, sukhit±pi ekena gaŗhant³”ti. Eva½ kirassa ahosi “saddh± t±va dhamma½ sotuk±m± gamissantiyeva, assaddh±pi pana dhanalobhena gantv± dhamma½ sutv± dukkhato muccissant²”ti. Tasm± janasaŖgahatth±ya eva½ ±roc±pesi. Mah±jano tena vuttaniy±meneva ratan±ni gaŗhi. Saki½ okiŗŗaratanesu kh²ŗesu y±vatatiya½ jaŗŗumattena odhin± okir±pesiyeva. Satthu pana p±dam³le tipusamatta½ anaggha½ maŗiratana½ µhapesi. Eva½ kirassa ahosi– “satthu sar²rato suvaŗŗavaŗŗ±ya pabh±ya saddhi½ maŗipabha½ olokent±na½ titti n±ma na bhavissat²”ti. Tasm± evamak±si. Mah±janopi atittova olokesi.
Athekadivasa½ eko micch±diµµhikabr±hmaŗo “satthu kira p±dam³le mahaggha½ maŗiratana½ nikkhitta½, hariss±mi nan”ti vih±ra½ gantv± satth±ra½ vanditu½ ±gatassa mah±janassa antarena p±visi. Kuµumbiko tassa pavisan±k±reneva “maŗi½ gaŗhituk±mo”ti sallakkhetv± “aho vata na gaŗheyy±”ti cintesi. Sopi satth±ra½ vandanto viya p±dam³le hattha½ upan±metv± maŗi½ gahetv± ovaµµik±ya katv± pakk±mi. Kuµumbiko tasmi½ citta½ pas±detu½ n±sakkhi. So dhammakath±vas±ne satth±ra½ upasaŖkamitv± ±ha– “bhante, may± tikkhattu½ gandhakuµi½ parikkhipitv± jaŗŗumattena odhin± satta ratan±ni okiŗŗ±ni, t±ni me gaŗhantesu ±gh±to n±ma n±hosi, citta½ bhiyyo bhiyyo pas²diyeva. Ajja pana ‘aho vat±ya½ br±hmaŗo maŗi½ na gaŗheyy±’ti cintetv± tasmi½ maŗi½ ±d±ya gate citta½ pas±detu½ n±sakkhin”ti. Satth± tassa vacana½ sutv± “nanu, up±saka, attano santaka½ parehi an±haraŗ²ya½ k±tu½ sakkos²”ti naya½ ad±si. So satth±r± dinnanaye µhatv± satth±ra½ vanditv± “ajja ±di½ katv± mama santaka½ dasikasuttamattampi ma½ abhibhavitv± anekasat±pi r±j±no v± cor± v± gaŗhitu½ samatth± n±ma m± hontu, aggin±pi mama santaka½ m± ¹ayhatu, udakenapi m± vuyhat³”ti patthana½ ak±si Satth±pissa “eva½ hot³”ti anumodana½ ak±si. So gandhakuµimaha½ karonto aµµhasaµµhiy± bhikkhusatasahass±na½ antovih±reyeva nava m±se mah±d±na½ datv± d±napariyos±ne sabbesa½ tic²vara½ ad±si. SaŖghanavakassa c²varas±µak± sahassagghanak± ahesu½.
