Attan± codayatt±nanti ima½ dhammadesana½ satth± jetavane viharanto naªgalakulatthera½ ±rabbha kathesi.
Eko kira duggatamanusso paresa½ bhati½ katv± j²vati, ta½ eko bhikkhu pilotikakhaº¹anivattha½ naªgala½ ukkhipitv± gacchanta½ disv± evam±ha– “ki½ pana te eva½ j²vanato pabbajitu½ na varan”ti. Ko ma½, bhante, eva½ j²vanta½ pabb±jessat²ti? Sace pabbajissasi aha½ ta½ pabb±jess±m²ti. S±dhu bhante sace ma½ pabb±jessatha, pabbajiss±m²ti. Atha na½ so thero jetavana½ netv± sahatthena, nh±petv± m±¼ake µhapetv± pabb±jetv± nivatthapilotikakhaº¹ena saddhi½ naªgala½ m±¼akas²m±yameva rukkhas±kh±ya½ µhap±pesi. So upasampannak±lepi naªgalakulattherotveva paññ±yi. So buddh±na½ uppannal±bhasakk±ra½ niss±ya j²vanto ukkaºµhitv± ukkaºµhita½ vinodetu½ asakkonto “na d±ni saddh±deyy±ni k±s±y±ni paridahitv± gamiss±m²”ti ta½ rukkham³la½ gantv± attan±va att±na½ ovadi– “ahirika, nillajja, ida½ niv±setv± vibbhamitv± bhati½ katv± j²vituk±mo j±to”ti. Tasseva½ att±na½ ovadantasseva citta½ tanukabh±va½ gata½. So nivattitv± puna katip±haccayena ukkaºµhitv± tatheva att±na½ ovadi, punassa citta½ nivatti. So imin±va n²h±rena ukkaºµhita-ukkaºµhitak±le tattha gantv± att±na½ ovadi. Atha na½ bhikkh³ tattha abhiºha½ gacchanta½ disv±, “±vuso, naªgalatthera kasm± ettha gacchas²”ti pucchi½su. So “±cariyassa santika½ gacch±mi, bhante”ti vatv± katip±heneva arahatta½ p±puºi.
Bhikkh³ tena saddhi½ ke¼i½ karont± ±ha½su– “±vuso naªgalatthera, tava vicaraºamaggo ava¼añjo viya j±to, ±cariyassa santika½ na gacchasi maññe”ti. ¾ma, bhante, maya½ sa½sagge sati agamimh±, id±ni pana so sa½saggo chinno, tena na gacch±m±ti. Ta½ sutv± bhikkh³ “esa abh³ta½ vatv± añña½ by±karot²”ti satthu tamattha½ ±rocesu½. Satth± “±ma, bhikkhave, mama putto attan±va att±na½ codetv± pabbajitakiccassa matthaka½ patto”ti vatv± dhamma½ desento im± g±th± abh±si–
379. “Attan± codayatt±na½, paµima½setha attan±;
so attagutto satim±, sukha½ bhikkhu vih±hisi.
380. “Att± hi attano n±tho, ko hi n±tho paro siy±;
att± hi attano gati;
tasm± sa½yamamatt±na½, assa½ bhadra½va v±ºijo”ti.
Tattha codayatt±nanti attan±va att±na½ codaya s±raya. Paµima½seth±ti attan±va att±na½ pariv²ma½satha. Soti so tva½, bhikkhu, eva½ sante attan±va guttat±ya attagutto, upaµµhitasatit±ya satim± hutv± sabbiriy±pathesu sukha½ viharissas²ti attho.
N±thoti avassayo patiµµh±. Ko hi n±tho paroti yasm± parassa attabh±ve patiµµh±ya kusala½ v± katv± saggapar±yaºena magga½ v± bh±vetv± sacchikataphalena bhavitu½ na sakk±, tasm± ko hi n±ma paro n±tho bhaveyy±ti attho. Tasm±ti yasm± att±va attano gati patiµµh± saraºa½, tasm± yath± bhadra½ ass±j±n²ya½ niss±ya l±bha½ patthayanto v±ºijo tassa visamaµµh±nac±ra½ pacchinditv± divasassa tikkhattu½ nah±pento bhojento sa½yameti paµijaggati, eva½ tvampi anuppannassa akusalassa upp±da½ niv±rento satisammosena uppanna½ akusala½ pajahanto att±na½ sa½yama gopaya, eva½ sante paµhamajjh±na½ ±di½ katv± lokiyalokuttaravisesa½ adhigamissas²ti attho.
