Muñca pureti ima½ dhammadesana½ satth± ve¼uvane viharanto uggasena½ ±rabbha kathesi. Pañcasat± kira naµ± sa½vacchare v± cham±se v± patte r±jagaha½ gantv± rañño satt±ha½ samajja½ katv± bahu½ hiraññasuvaººa½ labhanti, antarantare ukkhepad±y±na½ pariyanto natthi. Mah±jano mañc±timañc±d²su µhatv± samajja½ olokesi. Athek± laªghikadh²t± va½sa½ abhiruyha tassa upari parivattitv± tassa pariyante ±k±se caªkamam±n± naccati ceva g±yati ca. Tasmi½ samaye uggaseno n±ma seµµhiputto sah±yakena saddhi½ mañc±timañce µhito ta½ oloketv± tass± hatthap±davikkhep±d²su uppannasineho geha½ gantv± “ta½ labhanto j²viss±mi, alabhantassa me idheva maraºan”ti ±h±r³paccheda½ katv± mañcake nipajji. M±t±pit³hi, “t±ta, ki½ te rujjat²”ti pucchitopi “ta½ me naµadh²tara½ labhantassa j²vita½ atthi, alabhantassa me idheva maraºan”ti vatv±, “t±ta, m± eva½ kari, añña½ te amh±ka½ kulassa ca bhog±nañca anur³pa½ kum±rika½ ±ness±m±”ti vuttepi tatheva vatv± nipajji. Athassa pit± bahu½ y±citv±pi ta½ saññ±petu½ asakkonto tassa sah±ya½ pakkos±petv± kah±paºasahassa½ datv± “ime kah±paºe gahetv± attano dh²tara½ mayha½ puttassa det³”ti pahiºi. So “n±ha½ kah±paºe gahetv± demi, sace pana so ima½ alabhitv± j²vitu½ na sakkoti, tena hi amhehi saddhi½yeva vicaratu, dass±missa dh²taran”ti ±ha. M±t±pitaro puttassa tamattha½ ±rocesu½. So “aha½ tehi saddhi½ vicariss±m²”ti vatv± y±cant±nampi tesa½ katha½ an±diyitv± nikkhamitv± n±µakassa santika½ agam±si. So tassa dh²tara½ datv± tena saddhi½yeva g±manigamar±jadh±n²su sippa½ dassento vicari. S±pi tena saddhi½ sa½v±samanv±ya nacirasseva putta½ labhitv± k²¼±payam±n± “sakaµagopakassa putta, bhaº¹ah±rakassa putta, kiñci aj±nakassa putt±”ti vadati. So “ki½ nu kho niss±ya imiss± aya½ m±no”ti cintento “sippa½ niss±y±”ti ñatv± “hotu, sippa½ uggaºhiss±m²”ti sasura½ upasaªkamitv± tassa j±nanakasippa½ uggaºhitv± g±manigam±d²su sippa½ dassento anupubbena r±jagaha½ ±gantv± “ito sattame divase uggaseno seµµhiputto nagarav±s²na½ sippa½ dassessat²”ti ±roc±pesi. Nagarav±sino mañc±timañc±dayo bandh±petv± sattame divase sannipati½su. Sopi saµµhihattha½ va½sa½ abhiruyha tassa matthake aµµh±si. Tatra aha½ catuppadika½ g±tha½ desess±mi, ta½ sutv± catur±s²tiy± p±ºasahass±na½ dhamm±bhisamayo bhavissati, uggasenopi arahatte patiµµhahissat²”ti aññ±si. Satth± punadivase k±la½ sallakkhetv± bhikkhusaªghaparivuto r±jagaha½ piº¹±ya p±visi. Uggasenopi satthari antonagara½ apaviµµheyeva unn±danatth±ya mah±janassa aªgulisañña½ datv± va½samatthake patiµµh±ya ±k±seyeva satta v±re parivattitv± oruyha va½samatthake aµµh±si. Tasmi½ khaºe satth± nagara½ pavisanto yath± ta½ paris± na oloketi, eva½ katv± att±nameva olok±pesi. Uggaseno parisa½ oloketv± “na ma½ paris± oloket²”ti domanassappatto “ida½ may± sa½vacchare kattabba½ sippa½, satthari nagara½ pavisante paris± ma½ anoloketv± satth±rameva oloketi, mogha½ vata me sippadassana½ j±tan”ti cintesi. Satth± tassa citta½ ñatv± mah±moggall±na½ ±mantetv± “gaccha, moggall±na, seµµhiputta½ vadehi ‘sippa½ kira dasset³”’ti ±ha. Thero gantv± va½sassa heµµh± µhito seµµhiputta½ ±mantetv± ima½ g±tham±ha–
“Iªgha passa naµaputta, uggasena mahabbala;
karohi raªga½ paris±ya, h±sayassu mah±janan”ti.
So therassa katha½ sutv± tuµµham±naso hutv± “satth± maññe mama sippa½ passituk±mo”ti va½samatthake µhitakova ima½ g±tham±ha–
“Iªgha passa mah±pañña, moggall±na mahiddhika;
karomi raªga½ paris±ya, h±say±mi mah±janan”ti.
Evañca pana vatv± va½samatthakato veh±sa½ abbhuggantv± ±k±seva cuddasakkhattu½ parivattitv± oruyha va½samatthakeva aµµh±si. Atha na½ satth±, “uggasena, paº¹itena n±ma at²t±n±gatapaccuppannesu khandhesu ±laya½ pah±ya j±ti-±d²hi muccitu½ vaµµat²”ti vatv± ima½ g±tham±ha– 348. “Muñca pure muñca pacchato,
majjhe muñca bhavassa p±rag³;
sabbattha vimuttam±naso,
na puna½ j±tijara½ upehis²”ti.
Tattha muñca pureti at²tesu khandhesu ±laya½ nikanti½ ajjhos±na½ patthana½ pariyuµµh±na½ g±ha½ par±m±sa½ taºha½ muñca. Pacchatoti an±gatesupi khandhesu ±lay±d²ni muñca. Majjheti paccuppannesupi t±ni muñca. Bhavassa p±rag³ti eva½ sante tividhass±pi bhavassa abhiññ±pariññ±pah±nabh±van±sacchikiriyavasena p±rag³ p±raªgato hutv± khandhadh±tu-±yatan±dibhede sabbasaªkhate vimuttam±naso viharanto puna j±tijar±maraº±ni na upagacchat²ti attho. Desan±vas±ne catur±s²tiy± p±ºasahass±na½ dhamm±bhisamayo ahosi. Seµµhiputtopi va½samatthake µhitakova saha paµisambhid±hi arahatta½ patv± va½sato oruyha satthu santika½ ±gantv± pañcapatiµµhitena satth±ra½ vanditv± pabbajja½ y±ci. Atha na½ satth± dakkhiºahattha½ pas±retv± “ehi bhikkh³”ti ±ha. So t±vadeva aµµhaparikkh±radharo saµµhivassikatthero viya ahosi. Atha na½ bhikkh³, “±vuso uggasena, saµµhihatthassa te va½sassa matthakato otarantassa bhaya½ n±ma n±hos²”ti pucchitv± “natthi me, ±vuso, bhayan”ti vutte satthu ±rocesu½, “bhante, uggaseno ‘na bh±y±m²’ti vadati, abh³ta½ vatv± añña½ by±karot²”ti. Satth± “na, bhikkhave, mama puttena uggasenena sadis± chinnasa½yojan± bhikkh³ bh±yanti, na tasant²”ti vatv± br±hmaºavagge ima½ g±tham±ha–
“Sabbasa½yojana½ chetv±, yo ve na paritassati;
saªg±tiga½ visa½yutta½, tamaha½ br³mi br±hmaºan”ti. (Dha. pa. 397; su. ni. 626).
Desan±vas±ne bah³na½ dhamm±bhisamayo ahosi. Punekadivasa½ bhikkh³ dhammasabh±ya½ katha½ samuµµh±pesu½ “ki½ nu kho, ±vuso, eva½ arahatt³panissayasampannassa bhikkhuno naµadh²tara½ niss±ya naµehi saddhi½ vicaraºak±raºa½, ki½ arahatt³panissayak±raºan”ti? Satth± ±gantv± “k±ya nuttha, bhikkhave, etarahi kath±ya sannisinn±”ti pucchitv± “im±ya n±m±”ti vutte, “bhikkhave, ubhayampeta½ imin± eva katan”ti vatv± tamattha½ pak±setu½ at²ta½ ±hari. At²te kira kassapadasabalassa suvaººacetiye kariyam±ne b±r±ºasiv±sino kulaputt± bahu½ kh±dan²yabhojan²ya½ y±nakesu ±ropetv± “hatthakamma½ kariss±m±”ti cetiyaµµh±na½ gacchant± antar±magge eka½ thera½ piº¹±ya pavisanta½ passi½su. Athek± kuladh²t± thera½ oloketv± s±mika½ ±ha– “s±mi, ayyo, piº¹±ya pavisati, y±nake ca no bahu½ kh±dan²ya½ bhojan²ya½, pattamassa ±hara, bhikkha½ dass±m±”ti. So ta½ patta½ ±haritv± kh±dan²yabhojan²yassa p³retv± therassa hatthe patiµµhapetv± ubhopi patthana½ kari½su, “bhante, tumhehi diµµhadhammasseva bh±gino bhaveyy±m±”ti. Sopi thero kh²º±savova, tasm± olokento tesa½ patthan±ya samijjhanabh±va½ ñatv± sita½ ak±si. Ta½ disv± s± itth² s±mika½ ±ha– “amh±ka½, ayyo, sita½ karoti, eko naµak±rako bhavissat²”ti. S±mikopiss± “eva½ bhavissati, bhadde”ti vatv± pakk±mi. Ida½ tesa½ pubbakamma½. Te tattha y±vat±yuka½ µhatv± devaloke nibbattitv± tato cavitv± s± itth² naµagehe nibbatti, puriso seµµhigehe. So “eva½, bhadde, bhavissat²”ti tass± paµivacanassa dinnatt± naµehi saddhi½ vicari. Kh²º±savattherassa dinnapiº¹ap±ta½ niss±ya arahatta½ p±puºi. S±pi naµadh²t± “y± me s±mikassa gati, mayhampi s± eva gat²”ti pabbajitv± arahatte patiµµhah²ti.
