Ida½ pureti ima½ dhammadesana½ satth± jetavane viharanto s±nu½ n±ma s±maºera½ ±rabbha kathesi.
So kira ekiss± up±sik±ya ekaputtako ahosi. Atha na½ s± daharak±leyeva pabb±jesi. So pabbajitak±lato paµµh±ya s²lav± ahosi vattasampanno, ±cariyupajjh±ya-±gantuk±na½ vatta½ katameva hoti. M±sassa aµµhame divase p±tova uµµh±ya udakam±¼ake udaka½ upaµµh±petv± dhammassavanagga½ sammajjitv± ±sana½ paññ±petv± d²pa½ j±letv± madhurassarena dhammassavana½ ghoseti. Bhikkh³ tassa th±ma½ ñatv± “sarabhañña½ bhaºa s±maºer±”ti ajjhesanti. So “mayha½ hadayav±to rujati, k±yo v± b±dhat²”ti kiñci pacc±h±ra½ akatv± dhamm±sana½ abhir³hitv± ±k±sagaªga½ ot±rento viya sarabhañña½ vatv± otaranto “mayha½ m±t±pit³na½ imasmi½ sarabhaññe patti½ damm²”ti vadati. Tassa manuss± m±t±pitaro pattiy± dinnabh±va½ na j±nanti. Anantarattabh±ve panassa m±t± yakkhin² hutv± nibbatt±, s± devat±hi saddhi½ ±gantv± dhamma½ sutv± “s±maºerena dinnapatti½ anumod±mi, t±t±”ti vadati. “S²lasampanno ca n±ma bhikkhu sadevakassa lokassa piyo hot²”ti tasmi½ s±maºere devat± salajj± sag±rav± mah±brahm±na½ viya aggikkhandha½ viya ca na½ maññanti. S±maºere g±ravena tañca yakkhini½ garuka½ katv± passanti. T± dhammassavanayakkhasam±gam±d²su “s±num±t± s±num±t±”ti yakkhiniy± agg±sana½ aggodaka½ aggapiº¹a½ denti. Mahesakkh±pi yakkh± ta½ disv± magg± okkamanti, ±san± vuµµhahanti.
Atha kho s±maºero vu¹¹himanv±ya paripakkindriyo anabhiratiy± p²¼ito anabhirati½ vinodetu½ asakkonto paru¼hakesanakho kiliµµhaniv±sanap±rupano kassaci an±rocetv± pattac²varam±d±ya ekakova m±tughara½ agam±si. Up±sik± putta½ disv± vanditv± ±ha– “ki½, t±ta, tva½ pubbe ±cariyupajjh±yehi v± daharas±maºerehi v± saddhi½ idh±gacchasi, kasm± ekakova ajja ±gatos²”ti? So ukkaºµhitabh±va½ ±rocesi. S± up±sik± n±nappak±rena ghar±v±se ±d²nava½ dassetv± putta½ ovadam±n±pi saññ±petu½ asakkont² “appeva n±ma attano dhammat±yapi sallakkheyy±”ti anuyyojetv± “tiµµha, t±ta, y±va te y±gubhatta½ samp±demi, y±gu½ pivitv± katabhattakiccassa te man±p±ni vatth±ni n²haritv± dass±m²”ti vatv± ±sana½ paññ±petv± ad±si. Nis²di s±maºero. Up±sik± muhutteneva y±gukhajjaka½ samp±detv± ad±si. Atha “bhatta½ samp±dess±m²”ti avid³re nisinn± taº¹ule dhovati. Tasmi½ samaye s± yakkhin² “kaha½ nu kho s±maºero, kacci bhikkh±h±ra½ labhati, no”ti ±vajjam±n± tassa vibbhamituk±mat±ya nisinnabh±va½ ñatv± “s±maºero me mahesakkh±na½ devat±na½ antare lajja½ upp±deyya, gacch±missa vibbhamane antar±ya½ kariss±m²”ti ±gantv± tassa sar²re adhimuccitv± g²va½ parivattetv± khe¼ena paggharantena bh³miya½ nipati. Up±sik± puttassa ta½ vippak±ra½ disv± vegena gantv± putta½ ±liªgetv± ³r³su nipajj±pesi. Sakalag±mav±sino ±gantv± balikamm±d²ni kari½su. Up±sik± pana paridevam±n± im± g±th± abh±si–
“C±tuddasi½ pañcadasi½, y± ca pakkhassa aµµham²;
p±µih±riyapakkhañca, aµµhaªgasusam±gata½.
“Uposatha½ upavasanti, brahmacariya½ caranti ye;
na tehi yakkh± k²¼anti, iti me arahata½ suta½;
s± d±ni ajja pass±mi, yakkh± k²¼anti s±nun±”ti. (Sa½. ni. 1.239).
Up±sik±ya vacana½ sutv±–
“C±tuddasi½ pañcadasi½, y± ca pakkhassa aµµham²;
p±µih±riyapakkhañca, aµµhaªgasusam±gata½.
“Uposatha½ upavasanti, brahmacariya½ caranti ye;
na tehi yakkh± k²¼anti, s±hu te arahata½ sutan”ti. (Sa½. ni. 1.239)–

Vatv± ±ha–

“S±nu½ pabuddha½ vajj±si, yakkh±na½ vacana½ ida½;
m±k±si p±paka½ kamma½, ±vi v± yadi v± raho.
“Sace ca p±paka½ kamma½, karissasi karosi v±;
na te dukkh± pamutyatthi, uppacc±pi pal±yato”ti. (Sa½. ni. 1.239).
Eva½ p±paka½ kamma½ katv± sakuºassa viya uppatitv± pal±yatopi te mokkho natth²ti vatv± s± yakkhin² s±maºera½ muñci. So akkh²ni umm²letv± m±tara½ kese vikiriya assasanti½ passasanti½ rodam±na½ sakalag±mav±sino ca sannipatite disv± attano yakkhena gahitabh±va½ aj±nanto “aha½ pubbe p²µhe nisinno, m±t± me avid³re nis²ditv± taº¹ule dhovi, id±ni panamhi bh³miya½ nipanno, ki½ nu kho etan”ti nipannakova m±tara½ ±ha–
“Mata½ v± amma rodanti, yo v± j²va½ na dissati;
j²vanta½ amma passant², kasm± ma½ amma rodas²”ti. (Therag±. 44; sa½. ni. 1.239).
Athassa m±t± vatthuk±makilesak±me pah±ya pabbajitassa puna vibbhamanattha½ ±gamane ±d²nava½ dassent² ±ha–
“Mata½ v± putta rodanti, yo v± j²va½ na dissati;
yo ca k±me cajitv±na, punar±gacchate idha;
ta½ v±pi putta rodanti, puna j²va½ mato hi so”ti. (Sa½. ni. 1.239).
Evañca pana vatv± ghar±v±sa½ kukku¼asadisañceva narakasadisañca katv± ghar±v±se ±d²nava½ dassent² puna ±ha–
“Kukku¼± ubbhato t±ta, kukku¼a½ patitumicchasi;
narak± ubbhato t±ta, naraka½ patitumicchas²”ti. (Sa½. ni. 1.239).
Atha na½, “putta, bhadda½ tava hotu, may± pana ‘aya½ no puttako ¹ayham±no’ti geh± bhaº¹a½ viya n²haritv± buddhas±sane pabb±jito, ghar±v±se puna ¹ayhitu½ icchasi. Abhidh±vatha paritt±yatha noti imamattha½ kassa ujjh±pay±ma ka½ nijjh±pay±m±”ti d²petu½ ima½ g±tham±ha–
“Abhidh±vatha bhaddante, kassa ujjh±pay±mase;
±ditt± n²hata½ bhaº¹a½, puna ¹ayhitumicchas²”ti. (Sa½. ni. 1.239).
So m±tari kathentiy± kathentiy± sallakkhetv± “natthi mayha½ gihibh±vena attho”ti ±ha. Athassa m±t± “s±dhu, t±t±”ti tuµµh± paº²tabhojana½ bhojetv± “kativassosi, t±t±”ti pucchitv± paripuººavassabh±va½ ñatv± tic²vara½ paµiy±desi. So paripuººapattac²varo upasampada½ labhi. Athassa acir³pasampannassa satth± cittaniggahe uss±ha½ janento “citta½ n±meta½ n±n±rammaºesu d²gharatta½ c±rika½ caranta½ aniggaºhantassa sotthibh±vo n±ma natthi, tasm± aªkusena mattahatthino viya cittassa niggaºhane yogo karaº²yo”ti vatv± ima½ g±tham±ha–
326. “Ida½ pure cittamac±ri c±rika½,
yenicchaka½ yatthak±ma½ yath±sukha½;
tadajjaha½ niggahess±mi yoniso,
hatthippabhinna½ viya aªkusaggaho”ti.
Tassattho– ida½ citta½ n±ma ito pubbe r³p±d²su ca ±rammaºesu r±g±d²na½ yena k±raºena icchati, yatthevassa k±mo uppajjati, tassa vasena yattha k±ma½ yath±ruci carantassa sukha½ hoti, tatheva vicaraºato yath±sukha½ d²gharatta½ c±rika½ cari, ta½ ajja aha½ pabhinna½ mattahatthi½ hatth±cariyasaªkh±to cheko aªkusaggaho aªkusena viya yonisomanasik±rena niggahess±mi, n±ssa v²tikkamitu½ dass±m²ti.
Desan±vas±ne s±nun± saddhi½ dhammassavan±ya upasaªkamant±na½ bah³na½ devat±na½ dhamm±bhisamayo ahosi. Sop±yasm± tepiµaka½ buddhavacana½ uggaºhitv± mah±dhammakathiko hutv± v²savassasata½ µhatv± sakalajambud²pa½ saªkhobhetv± parinibb±y²ti.
