4. Pasenadikosalavatthu

Middh² yad± hot²ti ima½ dhammadesana½ satth± jetavane viharanto r±j±na½ pasenadikosala½ ±rabbha kathesi.
Ekasmiñhi samaye r±j± taº¹uladoºassa odana½ tadupiyena s³pabyañjanena bhuñjati. So ekadivasa½ bhuttap±tar±so bhattasammada½ avinodetv±va satthu santika½ gantv± kilantar³po ito cito ca samparivattati, nidd±ya abhibhuyyam±nopi ujuka½ nipajjitu½ asakkonto ekamanta½ nis²di. Atha na½ satth± ±ha– “ki½, mah±r±ja, avissamitv±va ±gatos²”ti? “¾ma, bhante, bhuttak±lato paµµh±ya me mah±dukkha½ hot²”ti. Atha na½ satth±, “mah±r±ja, atibahubhojana½ eva½ dukkha½ hot²”ti vatv± ima½ g±tham±ha–
325. “Middh² yad± hoti mahagghaso ca,
nidd±yit± samparivattas±y²;
mah±var±hova niv±papuµµho,
punappuna½ gabbhamupeti mando”ti.
Tattha middh²ti thinamiddh±bhibh³to. Mahagghaso c±ti mah±bhojano ±harahatthaka-ala½s±µakatatravaµµakak±kam±sakabhuttavamitak±na½ aññataro viya. Niv±papuµµhoti kuº¹ak±din± s³karabhattena puµµho. Gharas³karo hi daharak±lato paµµh±ya posiyam±no th³lasar²rak±le geh± bahi nikkhamitu½ alabhanto heµµh±mañc±d²su samparivattitv± assasanto passasanto sayateva. Ida½ vutta½ hoti– yad± puriso middh² ca hoti mahagghaso ca, niv±papuµµho mah±var±ho viya ca aññena iriy±pathena y±petu½ asakkonto nidd±yanas²lo samparivattas±y², tad± so “anicca½ dukkha½ anatt±”ti t²ºi lakkhaº±ni manasik±tu½ na sakkoti. Tesa½ amanasik±r± mandapañño punappuna½ gabbhamupeti, gabbhav±sato na parimuccat²ti. Desan±vas±ne satth± rañño upak±ravasena–
“Manujassa sad± sat²mato, matta½ j±nato laddhabhojane;
tanukassa bhavanti vedan±, saºika½ j²rati ±yu p±layan”ti. (Sa½. ni. 1.124).
Ima½ g±tha½ vatv± uttaram±ºava½ uggaºh±petv± “ima½ g±tha½ rañño bhojanavel±ya pavedeyy±si, imin± up±yena bhojana½ parih±peyy±s²”ti up±ya½ ±cikkhi, so tath± ak±si. R±j± aparena samayena n±¼ikodanaparamat±ya saºµhito susallahukasar²ro sukhappatto satthari uppannaviss±so satt±ha½ asadisad±na½ pavattesi. D±n±numodan±ya mah±jano mahanta½ visesa½ p±puº²ti.
