Athassa br±hmaºiy± k±lakat±ya putt± sammantayi½su– “sace aya½ añña½ br±hmaºi½ ±nessati, tass± kucchiya½ nibbatt±na½ vasena kulasantaka½ bhijjissati, handa na½ maya½ saªgaºhiss±m±”ti te ta½ paº²tehi gh±sacch±dan±d²hi upaµµhahant± hatthap±dasamb±han±d²ni karont± upaµµhahitv± ekadivasamassa div± nidd±yitv± vuµµhitassa hatthap±de samb±hant± p±µiyekka½ ghar±v±se ±d²nava½ vatv± “maya½ tumhe imin± n²h±rena y±vaj²va½ upaµµhahiss±ma, sesadhanampi no deth±”ti y±ci½su. Br±hmaºo puna ekekassa satasahassa½ datv± attano nivatthap±rupanamatta½ µhapetv± sabba½ upabhogaparibhoga½ catt±ro koµµh±se katv± niyy±desi. Ta½ jeµµhaputto katip±ha½ upaµµhahi. Atha na½ ekadivasa½ nhatv± ±gacchanta½ dv±rakoµµhake µhatv± suºh± evam±ha– “ki½ tay± jeµµhaputtassa sata½ v± sahassa½ v± atireka½ dinna½ atthi, nanu sabbesa½ dve dve satasahass±ni dinn±ni, ki½ sesaputt±na½ gharassa magga½ na j±n±s²”ti. Sopi “nassa vasal²”ti kujjhitv± aññassa ghara½ agam±si. Tatopi katip±haccayena imin±va up±yena pal±pito aññass±ti eva½ ekagharampi pavesana½ alabham±no paº¹araªgapabbajja½ pabbajitv± bhikkh±ya caranto k±l±namaccayena jar±jiººo dubbhojanadukkhaseyy±hi mil±tasar²ro bhikkh±ya caranto ±gamma p²µhik±ya nipanno nidda½ okkamitv± uµµh±ya nisinno att±na½ oloketv± puttesu attano patiµµha½ apassanto cintesi– “samaºo kira gotamo abbh±kuµiko utt±namukho sukhasambh±so paµisanth±rakusalo, sakk± samaºa½ gotama½ upasaªkamitv± paµisanth±ra½ labhitun”ti. So niv±sanap±rupana½ saºµh±petv± bhikkhabh±jana½ gahetv± daº¹am±d±ya bhagavato santika½ agam±si. Vuttampi ceta½ (sa½. ni. 1.200)–
Atha kho aññataro br±hmaºamah±s±lo l³kho l³khap±vuraºo yena bhagav± tenupasaªkami, upasaªkamitv± ekamanta½ nis²di. Satth± ekamanta½ nisinnena tena saddhi½ paµisanth±ra½ katv± etadavoca– “kinnu tva½ br±hmaºa, l³kho l³khap±vuraºo”ti. Idha me, bho gotama, catt±ro putt± te ma½ d±rehi sa½puccha ghar± nikkh±ment²ti. Tena hi tva½, br±hmaºa, im± g±th±yo pariy±puºitv± sabh±ya½ mah±janak±ye sannipatite puttesu ca sannisinnesu bh±sassu–
“Yehi j±tehi nandissa½, yesañca bhavamicchisa½;
te ma½ d±rehi sa½puccha, s±va v±renti s³kara½.
“Asant± kira ma½ jamm±, t±ta t±t±ti bh±sare;
rakkhas± puttar³pena, te jahanti vayogata½.
“Assova jiººo nibbhogo, kh±dan± apan²yati;
b±lak±na½ pit± thero, par±g±resu bhikkhati.
“Daº¹ova kira me seyyo, yañce putt± anassav±;
caº¹ampi goºa½ v±reti, atho caº¹ampi kukkura½.
“Andhak±re pure hoti, gambh²re g±dhamedhati;
daº¹assa ±nubh±vena, khalitv± patitiµµhat²”ti. (Sa½. ni. 1.200).
So bhagavato santike t± g±th±yo uggaºhitv± tath±r³pe br±hmaº±na½ sam±gamadivase sabb±laªk±rapaµimaº¹itesu puttesu ta½ sabha½ og±hitv± br±hmaº±na½ majjhe mah±rahesu ±sanesu nisinnesu “aya½ me k±lo”ti sabh±ya majjhe pavisitv± hattha½ ukkhipitv± “aha½, bho, tumh±ka½ g±th±yo bh±situk±mo, suºissath±”ti vatv± “bh±sassu, br±hmaºa, suºom±”ti vutte µhitakova abh±si. Tena ca samayena manuss±na½ vatta½ hoti “yo m±t±pit³na½ santaka½ kh±danto m±t±pitaro na poseti, so m±retabbo”ti. Tasm± te br±hmaºaputt± pitu p±desu patitv± “j²vita½ no, t±ta, deth±”ti y±ci½su. So pitu hadayamudut±ya “m± me, bho, puttake vin±sayittha, posessanti man”ti ±ha. Athassa putte manuss± ±ha½su– “sace, bho ajja paµµh±ya pitara½ na samm± paµijaggissatha, gh±tess±ma vo”ti. Te bh²t± pitara½ p²µhe nis²d±petv± saya½ ukkhipitv± geha½ netv± sar²ra½ telena abbhañjitv± ubbaµµetv± gandhacuºº±d²hi nh±petv± br±hmaºiyo pakkos±petv± “ajja paµµh±ya amh±ka½ pitara½ samm± paµijaggatha, sace tumhe pam±da½ ±pajjissatha, niggaºhiss±ma vo”ti vatv± paº²tabhojana½ bhojesu½.
Br±hmaºo subhojanañca sukhaseyyañca ±gamma katip±haccayena sañj±tabalo p²ºindriyo attabh±va½ oloketv± “aya½ me sampatti samaºa½ gotama½ niss±ya laddh±”ti paºº±k±ratth±ya eka½ dussayuga½ ±d±ya bhagavato santika½ gantv± katapaµisanth±ro ekamanta½ nisinno ta½ dussayuga½ bhagavato p±dam³le µhapetv± “maya½, bho gotama, br±hmaº± n±ma ±cariyassa ±cariyadhana½ pariyes±ma, paµiggaºh±tu me bhava½ gotamo ±cariyo ±cariyadhanan”ti ±ha. Bhagav± tassa anukamp±ya ta½ paµiggahetv± dhamma½ desesi. Desan±vas±ne br±hmaºo saraºesu patiµµh±ya evam±ha– “bho gotama, mayha½ puttehi catt±ri dhuvabhatt±ni dinn±ni, tato aha½ dve tumh±ka½ damm²”ti. Atha na½ satth± “kaly±ºa½, br±hmaºa, maya½ pana ruccanaµµh±nameva gamiss±m±”ti vatv± uyyojesi. Br±hmaºo ghara½ gantv± putte ±ha– “t±t±, samaºo gotamo mayha½ sah±yo, tassa me dve dhuvabhatt±ni dinn±ni, tumhe tasmi½ sampatte m± pamajjitth±”ti. Te “s±dh³”ti sampaµicchi½su.
Satth± punadivase piº¹±ya caranto jeµµhaputtassa gharadv±ra½ agam±si. So satth±ra½ disv± pattam±d±ya ghara½ pavesetv± mah±rahe pallaªke nis²d±petv± paº²tabhojanamad±si. Satth± punadivase itarassa itarass±ti paµip±µiy± sabbesa½ ghar±ni agam±si. Sabbe te tatheva sakk±ra½ aka½su. Ekadivasa½ jeµµhaputto maªgale paccupaµµhite pitara½ ±ha– “t±ta, kassa maªgala½ dem±”ti? “N±ha½ aññe j±n±mi, samaºo gotamo mayha½ sah±yo”ti. “Tena hi ta½ sv±tan±ya pañcahi bhikkhusatehi saddhi½ nimanteth±”ti. Br±hmaºo tath± ak±si. Satth± punadivase sapariv±ro tassa geha½ agam±si. So haritupalitte sabb±laªk±rapaµimaº¹ite gehe buddhappamukha½ bhikkhusaªgha½ nis²d±petv± appodakamadhup±yasena ceva paº²tena kh±dan²yena ca parivisi. Antar±bhattasmi½yeva br±hmaºassa catt±ro putt± satthu santike nis²ditv± ±ha½su– “bho gotama, maya½ amh±ka½ pitara½ paµijagg±ma na pamajj±ma passathimassa attabh±van”ti.
Satth± “kaly±ºa½ vo kata½, m±t±pituposana½ n±ma por±ºakapaº¹it±na½ ±ciººamev±”ti vatv± “tassa n±gassa vippav±sena, vir³¼h± sallak² ca kuµaj± c±”ti ima½ ek±dasanip±te m±tuposakan±gar±jaj±taka½ (cariy±. 2.1 ±dayo; j±. 1.11.1 ±dayo) vitth±rena kathetv± ima½ g±tha½ abh±si–

kaµukabhedano dunniv±rayo;
baddho kaba¼a½ na bhuñjati,
sumarati n±gavanassa kuñjaro”ti.
Tattha dhanap±lo n±m±ti tad± k±sikaraññ± hatth±cariya½ pesetv± ramaº²ye n±gavane g±h±pitassa hatthino eta½ n±ma½. Kaµukabhedanoti tikhiºamado. Hatth²nañhi madak±le kaººac³¼ik± pabhijjanti, pakatiy±pi hatthino tasmi½ k±le aªkuse v± kuntatomare v± na gaºenti, caº¹± bhavanti. So pana aticaº¹oyeva. Tena vutta½– kaµukabhedano dunniv±rayoti. Baddho kaba¼a½ na bhuñjat²ti so baddho hatthis±la½ pana netv± vicitras±ºiy± parikkhip±petv± katagandhaparibhaº¹±ya upari baddhavicitravit±n±ya bh³miy± µhapito raññ± r±j±rahena n±naggarasena bhojanena upaµµh±pitopi kiñci bhuñjitu½ na icchi, tamattha½ sandh±ya “baddho kaba¼a½ na bhuñjat²”ti vutta½. Sumarati n±gavanass±ti so ramaº²ya½ me vasanaµµh±nanti n±gavana½ sarati. “M±t± pana me araññe puttaviyogena dukkhappatt± ahosi, m±t±pitu-upaµµh±nadhammo na me p³rati, ki½ me imin± bhojanen±”ti dhammika½ m±t±pitu-upaµµh±nadhammameva sari. Ta½ pana yasm± tasmi½ n±gavaneyeva µhito sakk± p³retu½, tena vutta½– sumarati n±gavanassa kuñjaroti. Satthari ima½ attano pubbacariya½ ±netv± kathente kathenteyeva sabbepi te assudh±r± pavattetv± muduhaday± ohitasot± bhavi½su. Atha nesa½ bhagav± sapp±ya½ viditv± sacc±ni pak±setv± dhamma½ desesi.
