Aya½ panettha saªkhepo– satthari anupiya½ n±ma mall±na½ nigamo atthi. Ta½ niss±ya anupiyambavane viharanteyeva tath±gatassa lakkhaºapaµiggahaºadivaseyeva as²tisahassehi ñ±tikulehi “r±j± v± hotu, buddho v±, khattiyapariv±rova vicarissat²”ti as²tisahassaputt± paµiññ±t±. Tesu yebhuyyena pabbajitesu bhaddiya½ n±ma r±j±na½, anuruddha½, ±nanda½, bhagu½, kimila½, devadattanti ime cha sakye apabbajante disv±, “maya½ attano putte pabb±jema, ime cha saky± na ñ±tak± maññe, kasm± na pabbajant²”ti? Katha½ samuµµh±pesu½. Atha kho mah±n±mo sakyo anuruddha½ upasaªkamitv±, “t±ta, amh±ka½ kul± pabbajito natthi, tva½ v± pabbaja, aha½ v± pabbajiss±m²”ti ±ha. So pana sukhum±lo hoti sampannabhogo, “natth²”ti vacanampi tena na sutapubba½. Ekadivasañhi tesu chasu khattiyesu gu¼ak²¼a½ k²¼antesu anuruddho p³vena par±jito p³vatth±ya pahiºi, athassa m±t± p³ve sajjetv± pahiºi Te kh±ditv± puna k²¼i½su. Punappuna½ tasseva par±jayo hoti. S±pissa tato paµµh±ya “p³va½ kh±dituk±momh²”ti vutte tucchap±timeva aññ±ya p±tiy± paµikucchitv± pesesi. Y±va ag±ramajjhe vasi, t±vassa devat±va p³ve pahiºi½su. So ettakampi aj±nanto pabbajja½ n±ma ki½ j±nissati? Tasm± “k± es± pabbajj± n±m±”ti bh±tara½ pucchitv± “oh±ritakesamassun± k±s±yanivatthena kaµµhattharake v± bidalamañcake v± nipajjitv± piº¹±ya carantena viharitabba½. Bhaddiyo ekadivasa½ ukkhalito bhatta½ va¹¹hiyam±na½ disv± “ukkhaliyaññeva uppannan”ti saññ² ahosi. Atha na½ te ±d±ya satthu santika½ gantv±, “maya½, bhante, s±kiy± n±ma m±nanissit±, aya½ amh±ka½ d²gharatta½ paric±rako, ima½ paµhamatara½ pabb±jetha, mayamassa abhiv±dan±d²ni kariss±ma, eva½ no m±no nimm±n±yissat²”ti vatv± ta½ paµhamatara½ pabb±jetv± pacch± saya½ pabbaji½su. Tesu ±yasm± bhaddiyo teneva antaravassena tevijjo ahosi. ¾yasm± anuruddho dibbacakkhuko hutv± pacch± mah±vitakkasutta½ (a. ni. 8.30) sutv± arahatta½ p±puºi. ¾yasm± ±nando sot±pattiphale patiµµhahi. Bhagutthero ca kimilatthero ca aparabh±ge vipassana½ va¹¹hetv± arahatta½ p±puºi½su. Devadatto pothujjanika½ iddhi½ patto. Aparabh±ge satthari kosambiya½ viharante sas±vakasaªghassa tath±gatassa mahanto l±bhasakk±ro nibbatti. Vatthabhesajj±dihatth± manuss± vih±ra½ pavisitv± “kuhi½ satth±, kuhi½ s±riputtatthero, kuhi½ mah±moggall±natthero, kuhi½ mah±kassapatthero, kuhi½ bhaddiyatthero, kuhi½ anuruddhatthero, kuhi½ ±nandatthero, kuhi½ bhagutthero, kuhi½ kimilatthero”ti as²timah±s±vak±na½ nisinnaµµh±na½ olokent± vicaranti. “Devadattatthero kuhi½ nisinno v±, µhito v±”ti pucchanto n±ma natthi.
