Seµµhidh²t± attan± gahetabbayuttaka½ vatth±bharaŗaj±ta½ sa½vidahitv± p±tova malinavattha½ niv±setv± kuµa½ ±d±ya d±s²hi saddhi½ udakatittha½ gacchant² viya nikkhamitv± ta½ µh±na½ gantv± tass±gamana½ olokent² aµµh±si. Tass± m±t±pitaro ito cito ca pariyes±petv± apassant± “mat± bhavissat²”ti matakabhatta½ kari½su. S±pi tena saddhi½ sa½v±samanv±ya paµip±µiy± satta putte vij±yitv± te vayappatte gharabandhanena bandhi.
Athekadivasa½ satth± pacc³sasamaye loka½ volokento kukkuµamitta½ saputta½ sasuŗisa½ attano ń±ŗaj±lassa anto paviµµha½ disv±, “ki½ nu kho etan”ti upadh±rento tesa½ pannarasannampi sot±pattimaggassa upanissaya½ disv± p±tova pattac²vara½ ±d±ya tassa p±saµµh±na½ agam±si Ta½ divasa½ p±se baddho ekamigopi n±hosi. Satth± tassa p±sam³le padavalańja½ dassetv± purato ekassa gumbassa heµµh± ch±y±ya½ nis²di. Kukkuµamitto p±tova dhanu½ ±d±ya p±saµµh±na½ gantv± ±dito paµµh±ya p±se olokayam±no p±se baddha½ ekampi miga½ adisv± satthu padavalańja½ addasa. Athassa etadahosi– “ko mayha½ baddhamige mocento vicarat²”ti. So satthari ±gh±ta½ bandhitv± gacchanto gumbam³le nisinna½ satth±ra½ disv±, “imin± mama mig± mocit± bhavissanti, m±ress±mi nan”ti dhanu½ ±ka¹¹hi. Satth± dhanu½ ±ka¹¹hitu½ datv± vissajjetu½ n±d±si. So sara½ vissajjetumpi oropetumpi asakkonto ph±suk±hi bhijjant²hi viya mukhato khe¼ena paggharantena kilantar³po aµµh±si. Athassa putt± geha½ gantv± “pit± no cir±yati, ki½ nu kho etan”ti vatv± “gacchatha, t±t±, pitu santikan”ti m±tar± pesit± dhan³ni ±d±ya gantv± pitara½ tath±µhita½ disv± “aya½ no pitu pacc±mitto bhavissat²”ti sattapi jan± dhan³ni ±ka¹¹hitv± buddh±nubh±vena yath± nesa½ pit± µhito, tatheva aµµha½su. Atha nesa½ m±t± “ki½ nu kho me putt±pi cir±yant²”ti vatv± sattahi suŗis±hi saddhi½ gantv± te tath±µhite disv± “kassa nu kho ime dhan³ni ±ka¹¹hitv± µhit±”ti olokent² satth±ra½ disv± b±h± paggayha– “m± me pitara½ n±setha, m± me pitara½ n±seth±”ti mah±saddamak±si. Kukkuµamitto ta½ sadda½ sutv± cintesi– “naµµho vatamhi, sasuro kira me esa, aho may± bh±riya½ kamma½ katan”ti. Putt±vissa “ayyako kira no esa, aho bh±riya½ kamma½ katan”ti cintayi½su. Kukkuµamitto “aya½ sasuro me”ti mettacitta½ upaµµhapesi, putt±pissa “ayyako no”ti mettacitta½ upaµµhapesu½. Atha te nesa½ m±t± seµµhidh²t± “khippa½ dhan³ni cha¹¹etv± pitara½ me kham±peth±”ti ±ha.
Satth± tesa½ muducittata½ ńatv± dhanu½ ot±retu½ ad±si. Te sabbe satth±ra½ vanditv± “khamatha no, bhante”ti kham±petv± ekamanta½ nis²di½su. Atha nesa½ satth± anupubbi½ katha½ kathesi. Desan±vas±ne kukkuµamitto saddhi½ puttehi ceva suŗis±hi ca attapańcadasamo sot±pattiphale patiµµhahi. Satth± piŗ¹±ya caritv± pacch±bhatta½ vih±ra½ agam±si. Atha na½ ±nandatthero pucchi– “bhante, kaha½ gamitth±”ti. Kukkuµamittassa santika½ ±nand±ti. P±ŗ±tip±takammassa vo, bhante, ak±rako katoti. ¾m±nanda, so attapańcadasamo acalasaddh±ya patiµµh±ya t²su ratanesu nikkaŖkho hutv± p±ŗ±tip±takammassa ak±rako j±toti. Bhikkh³ ±ha½su– “nanu, bhante, bhariy±pissa atth²”ti. ¾ma, bhikkhave, s± kulagehe kum±rik± hutv± sot±pattiphala½ patt±ti. Bhikkh³ katha½ samuµµh±pesu½ “kukkuµamittassa kira bhariy± kum±rikak±le eva sot±pattiphala½ patv± tassa geha½ gantv± satta putte labhi, s± ettaka½ k±la½ s±mikena ‘dhanu½ ±hara, sare ±hara, satti½ ±hara, s³la½ ±hara, j±la½ ±har±’ti vuccam±n± t±ni ad±si. Sopi t±ya dinn±ni ±d±ya gantv± p±ŗ±tip±ta½ karoti, ki½ nu kho sot±pann±pi p±ŗ±tip±ta½ karont²”ti. Satth± ±gantv± “k±ya nuttha, bhikkhave, etarahi kath±ya sannisinn±”ti pucchitv± “im±ya n±m±”ti vutte, “na, bhikkhave, sot±pann± p±ŗ±tip±ta½ karonti, s± pana ‘s±mikassa vacana½ karom²’ti tath± ak±si. ‘Ida½ gahetv± esa gantv± p±ŗ±tip±ta½ karot³’ti tass± citta½ natthi. P±ŗitalasmińhi vaŗe asati visa½ gaŗhantassa ta½ visa½ anu¹ahitu½ na sakkoti, evameva½ akusalacetan±ya abh±vena p±pa½ akarontassa dhanu-±d²ni n²haritv± dadatopi p±pa½ n±ma na hot²”ti vatv± anusandhi½ ghaµetv± dhamma½ desento ima½ g±tham±ha–

n±bbaŗa½ visamanveti, natthi p±pa½ akubbato”ti.
Tattha n±ss±ti na bhaveyya. Hareyy±ti haritu½ sakkuŗeyya. Ki½ k±raŗ±? Yasm± n±bbaŗa½ visamanveti avaŗańhi p±ŗi½ visa½ anvetu½ na sakkoti, evameva dhanu-±d²ni n²haritv± dentass±pi akusalacetan±ya abh±vena p±pa½ akubbato p±pa½ n±ma natthi, avaŗa½ p±ŗi½ visa½ viya n±ssa citta½ p±pa½ anugacchat²ti.
Desan±vas±ne bah³ sot±pattiphal±d²ni p±puŗi½s³ti.
Aparena samayena bhikkh³ katha½ samuµµh±pesu½– “ko nu kho kukkuµamittassa saputtassa sasuŗisassa sot±pattimaggass³panissayo, kena k±raŗena nes±dakule nibbatto”ti. Satth± ±gantv± “k±ya nuttha, bhikkhave etarahi kath±ya sannisinn±”ti pucchitv± “im±ya n±m±”ti vutte, bhikkhave, at²te kassapadasabalassa dh±tucetiya½ sa½vidahant± evam±ha½su– “ki½ nu kho imassa cetiyassa mattik± bhavissati, ki½ udakan”ti. Atha nesa½ etadahosi– “harit±lamanosil± mattik± bhavissati, tilatela½ udakan”ti. Te harit±lamanosil± koµµetv± tilatelena sa½sanditv± iµµhak±ya ghaµetv± suvaŗŗena khacitv± anto cini½su, bahimukhe pana ekagghanasuvaŗŗa-iµµhak±va ahesu½. Ekek± satasahassagghanik± ahosi. Te y±va dh±tunidh±n± cetiye niµµhite cintayi½su– “dh±tunidh±nak±le bahun± dhanena attho, ka½ nu kho jeµµhaka½ karom±”ti.
Atheko g±mav±siko seµµhi “aha½ jeµµhako bhaviss±m²”ti dh±tunidh±ne eka½ hirańńakoµi½ pakkhipi. Ta½ disv± raµµhav±sino “aya½ nagaraseµµhi dhanameva sa½harati, evar³pe cetiye jeµµhako bhavitu½ na sakkoti, g±mav±s² pana koµidhana½ pakkhipitv± jeµµhako j±to”ti ujjh±yi½su. So tesa½ katha½ sutv± “aha½ dve koµiyo datv± jeµµhako bhaviss±m²”ti dve koµiyo ad±si. Itaro “ahameva jeµµhako bhaviss±m²”ti tisso koµiyo ad±si. Eva½ va¹¹hetv± va¹¹hetv± nagarav±s² aµµha koµiyo ad±si. G±mav±sino pana gehe navakoµidhanameva atthi, nagarav±sino catt±l²sakoµidhana½. Tasm± g±mav±s² cintesi– “sac±ha½ nava koµiyo dass±mi, aya½ ‘dasa koµiyo dass±m²’ti vakkhati, atha me niddhanabh±vo pańń±yissat²”ti. So evam±ha– “aha½ ettakańca dhana½ dass±mi, saputtad±ro ca cetiyassa d±so bhaviss±m²”ti satta putte satta suŗis±yo bhariyańca gahetv± attan± saddhi½ cetiyassa niyy±desi. Raµµhav±sino “dhana½ n±ma sakk± upp±detu½, aya½ pana saputtad±ro att±na½ niyy±desi, ayameva jeµµhako hot³”ti ta½ jeµµhaka½ kari½su. Iti te so¼asapi jan± cetiyassa d±s± ahesu½. Raµµhav±sino pana te bhujisse aka½su. Eva½ santepi cetiyameva paµijaggitv± y±vat±yuka½ µhatv± tato cut± devaloke nibbatti½su. Tesu eka½ buddhantara½ devaloke vasantesu imasmi½ buddhupp±de bhariy± tato cavitv± r±jagahe seµµhino dh²t± hutv± nibbatti. S± kum±rik±va hutv± sot±pattiphala½ p±puŗi. Adiµµhasaccassa pana paµisandhi n±ma bh±riy±ti tass± s±miko samparivattam±no gantv± nes±dakule nibbatti. Tassa saha dassaneneva seµµhidh²tara½ pubbasineho ajjhotthari. Vuttampi ceta½–
“Pubbeva sanniv±sena, paccuppannahitena v±;
eva½ ta½ j±yate pema½, uppala½va yathodake”ti. (J±. 1.2.174).
