Itaro “sop±nap±dam³le gaºhissat²”ti cintesi. Satth± tatth±pi na gaºhi. Itaro “r±jaªgaºe gaºhissat²”ti cintesi. Satth± tatth±pi na gaºhi. Kum±ro nivattituk±mo aruciy± gacchanto satthug±ravena “patta½ gaºhath±”ti vattu½ na sakkoti. “Idha gaºhissati, ettha gaºhissat²”ti cintento gacchati. Tasmi½ khaºe aññ± itthiyo ta½ disv± janapadakaly±ºiy± ±cikkhi½su– “ayye, bhagav± nandakum±ra½ gahetv± gato, tumhehi ta½ vin± karissat²”ti. S± udakabind³hi paggharanteheva a¹¹hullikhitehi kesehi vegena gantv±, “tuvaµa½ kho, ayyaputta, ±gaccheyy±s²”ti ±ha. Ta½ tass± vacana½ tassa hadaye tiriya½ patitv± viya µhita½. Satth±pissa hatthato patta½ aggaºhitv±va ta½ vih±ra½ netv±, “pabbajissasi nand±”ti-±ha. So buddhag±ravena “na pabbajiss±m²”ti avatv±, “±ma, pabbajiss±m²”ti ±ha. Satth± “tena hi nanda½ pabb±jeth±”ti ±ha. Satth± kapilapura½ gantv± tatiyadivase nanda½ pabb±jesi. Sattame divase r±hulam±t± kum±ra½ alaªkaritv± bhagavato santika½ pesesi– “passa, t±ta, eta½ v²satisahassasamaºaparivuta½ suvaººavaººa½ brahmar³pivaººa½ samaºa½, aya½ te pit±, etassa mahant± nidhikumbhiyo ahesu½. Ty±ssa nikkhamanato paµµh±ya na pass±ma, gaccha na½ d±yajja½ y±cassu– ‘aha½ t±ta, kum±ro, abhiseka½ patv± cakkavatt² bhaviss±mi, dhanena me attho, dhana½ me dehi. S±miko hi putto pitusantakass±”’ti. Kum±ro bhagavato santika½ gantv±va pitusineha½ paµilabhitv± haµµhacitto “sukh± te, samaºa, ch±y±”ti vatv± aññampi bahu½ attano anur³pa½ vadanto aµµh±si. Bhagav± katabhattakicco anumodana½ katv± uµµh±y±san± pakk±mi. Kum±ropi “d±yajja½ me, samaºa, dehi, d±yajja½ me, samaºa, deh²”ti bhagavanta½ anubandhi. Bhagav±pi kum±ra½ na nivatt±pesi. Parijanopi bhagavat± saddhi½ gacchanta½ nivattetu½ n±sakkhi. Iti so bhagavat± saddhi½ ±r±mameva agam±si. Tato bhagav± cintesi– “ya½ aya½ pitusantaka½ dhana½ icchati, ta½ vaµµ±nugata½ savigh±ta½, handassa bodhitale paµiladdha½ sattavidha½ ariyadhana½ demi, lokuttarad±yajjassa na½ s±mika½ karom²”ti. Atha kho bhagav± ±yasmanta½ s±riputta½ ±mantesi– “tena hi tva½, s±riputta, r±hulakum±ra½ pabb±jeh²”ti. Thero kum±ra½ pabb±jesi. Pabbajite ca pana kum±re rañño adhimatta½ dukkha½ uppajji. Ta½ adhiv±setu½ asakkonto bhagavato nivedetv±, “s±dhu, bhante, ayy±, m±t±pit³hi ananuññ±ta½ putta½ na pabb±jeyyun”ti vara½ y±ci. Bhagav± tassa ta½ vara½ datv± punekadivasa½ r±janivesane katap±tar±so ekamanta½ nisinnena raññ±, “bhante, tumh±ka½ dukkarak±rikak±le ek± devat± ma½ upasaªkamitv±, ‘putto te k±lakato’ti ±ha. Aha½ tass± vacana½ asaddahanto ‘na mayha½ putto bodhi½ appatv± k±la½ karot²’ti paµikkhipin”ti vutte– “id±ni ki½ saddahissatha, pubbepi aµµhik±ni dassetv±, ‘putto te mato’ti vutte na saddahitv±”ti imiss± atthuppattiy± mah±dhammap±laj±taka½ (j±. 1.10.92 ±dayo) kathesi. Iti bhagav± pitara½ t²su phalesu patiµµh±petv± bhikkhusaªghaparivuto punadeva r±jagaha½ gantv± tato an±thapiº¹ikena s±vatthi½ ±gamanatth±ya gahitapaµiñño niµµhite jetavane vih±re tattha gantv± v±sa½ kappesi. Eva½ satthari jetavane viharante ±yasm± nando ukkaºµµhitv± bhikkh³na½ etamattha½ ±rocesi– “anabhirato aha½, ±vuso, brahmacariya½ car±mi, na sakkomi brahmacariya½ sandh±retu½, sikkha½ paccakkh±ya h²n±y±vattiss±m²”ti. Bhagav± ta½ pavatti½ sutv± ±yasmanta½ nanda½ pakkos±petv± etadavoca– “sacca½ kira tva½, nanda, sambahul±na½ bhikkh³na½ eva½ ±rocesi ‘anabhirato, ±vuso, brahmacariya½ car±mi, na sakkomi brahmacariya½ sandh±retu½, sikkha½ paccakkh±ya h²n±y±vattiss±m²”’ti? “Eva½, bhante”ti. “Kissa pana tva½, nanda, anabhirato brahmacariya½ carasi, na sakkosi brahmacariya½ sandh±retu½, sikkha½ paccakkh±ya h²n±y±vattissas²”ti? “S±kiy±n² ma½, bhante, janapadakaly±º² ghar± nikkhamantassa a¹¹hullikhitehi kesehi apaloketv± ma½ etadavoca– ‘tuvaµa½ kho, ayyaputta, ±gaccheyy±s²’ti, so kho aha½, bhante, ta½ anussaram±no anabhirato brahmacariya½ car±mi, na sakkomi brahmacariya½ sandh±retu½, sikkha½ paccakkh±ya h²n±y±vattiss±m²”ti. Atha kho bhagav± ±yasmanta½ nanda½ b±h±ya½ gahetv± iddhibalena t±vati½sadevaloka½ ±nento antar±magge ekasmi½ jh±makkhette jh±makh±ºuke nisinna½ chinnakaººan±sanaªguµµha½ eka½ paluµµhamakkaµi½ dassetv± t±vati½sabhavane sakkassa devarañño upaµµh±na½ ±gat±ni kakuµap±d±ni pañca acchar±sat±ni dassesi. Kakuµap±d±n²ti rattavaººat±ya p±revatap±dasadisap±d±ni. Dassetv± ca pan±ha– “ta½ ki½ maññasi, nanda, katam± nu kho abhir³patar± v± dassan²yatar± v± p±s±dikatar± v± s±kiy±n² v± janapadakaly±º², im±ni v± pañca acchar±sat±ni kakuµap±d±n²”ti? Ta½ sutv± ±ha– “seyyath±pi s±, bhante, chinnakaººan±sanaªguµµh± paluµµhamakkaµ², evameva kho, bhante, s±kiy±n² janapadakaly±º², imesa½ pañcanna½ acchar±sat±na½ upanidh±ya saªkhyampi na upeti, kalampi na upeti, kalabh±gampi na upeti. Atha kho im±neva pañca acchar±sat±ni abhir³patar±ni ceva dassan²yatar±ni ca p±s±dikatar±ni c±”ti. “Abhirama, nanda, abhirama, nanda, aha½ te p±µibhogo pañcanna½ acchar±sat±na½ paµil±bh±ya kakuµap±d±nan”ti. “Sace me, bhante bhagav±, p±µibhogo pañcanna½ acchar±sat±na½ paµil±bh±ya kakuµap±d±na½, abhiramiss±maha½, bhante, bhagavati brahmacariye”ti. Atha kho bhagav± ±yasmanta½ nanda½ gahetv± tattha antarahito jetavaneyeva p±turahosi. Assosu½ kho bhikkh³, “±yasm± kira nando bhagavato bh±t± m±tucch±putto acchar±na½ hetu brahmacariya½ carati. Bhagav± kirassa p±µibhogo pañcanna½ acchar±sat±na½ paµil±bh±ya kakuµap±d±nan”ti. Atha kho ±yasmato nandassa sah±yak± bhikkh³ ±yasmanta½ nanda½ bhatakav±dena ca upakkitakav±dena ca samud±caranti, “bhatako kir±yasm± nando, upakkitako kir±yasm± nando, acchar±na½ hetu brahmacariya½ carati. Bhagav± kirassa p±µibhogo pañcanna½ acchar±sat±na½ paµil±bh±ya kakuµap±d±nan”ti. Atha kho ±yasm± nando sah±yak±na½ bhikkh³na½ bhatakav±dena ca upakkitakav±dena ca aµµiyam±no har±yam±no jiguccham±no eko v³pakaµµho appamatto ±t±p² pahitatto viharanto na cirasseva yassatth±ya kulaputt± sammadeva ag±rasm± anag±riya½ pabbajanti, tadanuttara½ brahmacariyapariyos±na½ diµµheva dhamme saya½ abhiññ± sacchikatv± upasampajja vih±si, “kh²º± j±ti, vusita½ brahmacariya½, kata½ karaº²ya½, n±para½ itthatt±y±”ti abbhaññ±si. Aññataro ca kho pan±yasm± nando arahata½ ahosi. Athek± devat± rattibh±ge sakala½ jetavana½ obh±setv± satth±ra½ upasaªkamitv± vanditv± ±rocesi– “±yasm±, bhante, nando bhagavato bh±t± m±tucch±putto ±sav±na½ khay± an±sava½ cetovimutti½ paññ±vimutti½ diµµheva dhamme saya½ abhiññ± sacchikatv± upasampajja viharat²”ti. Bhagavatopi kho ñ±ºa½ udap±di “nando ±sav±na½ khay± an±sava½ cetovimutti½ paññ±vimutti½ diµµheva dhamme saya½ abhiññ± sacchikatv± upasampajja viharat²”ti. Sop±yasm± nando tass± rattiy± accayena bhagavanta½ upasaªkamitv± vanditv± etadavoca– “ya½ me, bhante, bhagav± p±µibhogo pañcanna½ acchar±sat±na½ paµil±bh±ya kakuµap±d±na½, muñc±maha½, bhante, bhagavanta½ etasm± paµissav±”ti. “May±pi kho te, nanda, cetas± ceto paricca vidito ‘nando ±sav±na½ khay± an±sava½ cetovimutti½ paññ±vimutti½ diµµheva dhamme saya½ abhiññ± sacchikatv± upasampajja viharat²’ti. Devat±pi me etamattha½ ±rocesi– ‘±yasm±, bhante, nando ±sav±na½ khay± an±sava½ cetovimutti½ paññ±vimutti½ diµµheva dhamme saya½ abhiññ± sacchikatv± upasampajja viharat²’ti. Yadeva kho te, nanda, anup±d±ya ±savehi citta½ vimutta½, ath±ha½ mutto etasm± paµissav±”ti. Atha kho bhagav± etamattha½ viditv± t±ya½ vel±ya½ ima½ ud±na½ ud±nesi–
“Yassa nittiººo paªko, maddito k±makaºµako;
mohakkhaya½ anuppatto, sukhadukkhesu na vedhat² sa bhikkh³”ti. (Ud±. 22).
Athekadivasa½ bhikkh³ ta½ ±yasmanta½ nanda½ pucchi½su– “±vuso nanda, pubbe tva½ ‘ukkaºµhitom²’ti vadesi, id±ni te kathan”ti? “Natthi me, ±vuso, gihibh±v±ya ±layo”ti. Ta½ sutv± bhikkh³– “abh³ta½ ±yasm± nando katheti, añña½ by±karoti, at²tadivasesu ‘ukkaºµhitomh²’ti vatv± id±ni ‘natthi me gihibh±v±ya ±layo’ti kathet²”ti gantv± bhagavato etamattha½ ±rocesu½. Bhagav± “bhikkhave, at²tadivasesu nandassa attabh±vo ducchannagehasadiso ahosi, id±ni succhannagehasadiso j±to. Ayañhi dibbacchar±na½ diµµhak±lato paµµh±ya pabbajitakiccassa matthaka½ p±petu½ v±yamanto ta½ kicca½ patto”ti vatv± im± g±th± abh±si– 13. “Yath± ag±ra½ ducchanna½, vuµµh² samativijjhati;
eva½ abh±vita½ citta½, r±go samativijjhati.
14. “Yath± ag±ra½ succhanna½, vuµµh² na samativijjhati;
eva½ subh±vita½ citta½, r±go na samativijjhat²”ti.
Tattha ag±ranti ya½kiñci geha½. Ducchannanti vira¼acchanna½ chidd±vachidda½. Samativijjhat²ti vassavuµµhi vinivijjhati. Abh±vitanti ta½ ag±ra½ vuµµhi viya bh±van±ya rahitatt± abh±vita½ citta½ r±go samati vijjhati. Na kevala½ r±gova, dosamoham±n±dayo sabbakiles± tath±r³pa½ citta½ ativiya vijjhantiyeva. Subh±vitanti samathavipassan±bh±van±hi subh±vita½. Evar³pa½ citta½ succhanna½ geha½ vuµµhi viya r±g±dayo kiles± ativijjhitu½ na sakkont²ti. G±th±pariyos±ne bah³ sot±pattiphal±d²ni p±puºi½su. Mah±janassa desan± s±tthik± ahosi. Atha kho bhikkh³ dhammasabh±ya½ katha½ samuµµh±pesu½, “±vuso, buddh± n±ma acchariy±, janapadakaly±ºi½ niss±ya ukkaºµhito n±m±yasm± nando satth±r± devacchar± ±misa½ katv± vin²to”ti. Satth± ±gantv±– “k±ya nuttha, bhikkhave, etarahi kath±ya sannisinn±”ti pucchitv±, “im±ya n±m±”ti vutte, “na, bhikkhave, id±neva pubbepesa may± m±tug±mena palobhetv± vin²toyev±”ti vatv± at²ta½ ±hari– At²te b±r±ºasiya½ brahmadatte rajja½ k±rente b±r±ºasiv±s² kappaµo n±ma v±ºijo ahosi. Tasseko gadrabho kumbhabh±ra½ vahati, ekadivasena satta yojan±ni gacchati. So ekasmi½ samaye gadrabhabh±rakehi saddhi½ takkasila½ gantv± y±va bhaº¹assa vissajjana½, t±va gadrabha½ caritu½ vissajjesi. Athassa so gadrabho parikh±piµµhe caram±no eka½ gadrabhi½ disv± upasaªkami. S± tena saddhi½ paµisanth±ra½ karont² ±ha– “kuto ±gatos²”ti? “B±r±ºasito”ti. “Kena kammen±”ti? “V±ºijjakammen±”ti. “Kittaka½ bh±ra½ vahas²”ti “Kumbhabh±ran”ti? “Ettaka½ bh±ra½ vahanto kati yojan±ni gacchas²”ti? “Satta yojan±n²”ti. “Gatagataµµh±ne te k±ci p±daparikammapiµµhiparikammakar± atth²”ti? “Natth²”ti. “Eva½ sante mah±dukkha½ n±ma anubhos²”ti? “Kiñc±pi hi tiracch±nagat±na½ p±daparikamm±dik±rak± n±ma natthi, k±masa½yojanaghaµµanatth±ya pana evar³pa½ katha½ kathesi”? So tass± kath±ya ukkaºµhi. Kappaµopi bhaº¹a½ vissajjetv± tassa santika½ ±gantv±– “ehi, t±ta, gamiss±m±”ti ±ha. “Gacchatha tumhe, n±ha½ gamiss±m²”ti. Atha na½ punappuna½ y±citv±, “anicchanta½ paribh±setv± na½ ness±m²”ti cintetv± g±tham±ha–
“Patoda½ te kariss±mi, s±¼asaªgulikaºµaka½;
sañchindiss±mi te k±ya½, eva½ j±n±hi gadrabh±”ti.
Ta½ sutv± gadrabho “eva½ sante ahampi te kattabba½ j±niss±m²”ti vatv± ima½ g±tham±ha–
“Patoda½ me karissasi, so¼asaªgulikaºµaka½;
purato patiµµhahitv±na, uddharitv±na pacchato;
danta½ te p±tayiss±mi, eva½ j±n±hi kappaµ±”ti.
Ta½ sutv± v±ºijo– “kena nu kho k±raºena esa eva½ vadat²”ti cintetv±, ito cito ca olokento ta½ gadrabhi½ disv±, “im±yesa eva½ sikkh±pito bhavissati, ‘evar³pi½ n±ma te gadrabhi½ ±ness±m²’ti m±tug±mena na½ palobhetv± ness±m²”ti ima½ g±tham±ha–
“Catuppadi½ saªkhamukhi½, n±ri½ sabbaªgasobhini½;
bhariya½ te ±nayiss±mi, eva½ j±n±hi gadrabh±”ti.
Ta½ sutv± tuµµhacitto gadrabho ima½ g±tham±ha–
“Catuppadi½ saªkhamukhi½, n±ri½ sabbaªgasobhini½;
bhariya½ me ±nayissasi, eva½ j±n±hi kappaµa;
kappaµa bhiyyo gamiss±mi, yojan±ni catuddas±”ti.
Atha na½ kappaµo, “tena hi eh²”ti gahetv± sakaµµh±na½ agam±si. So katip±haccayena na½ ±ha– “nanu ma½ tumhe ‘bhariya½ te ±nayiss±m²’ti avocutth±”ti? “¾ma, vutta½, n±ha½ attano katha½ bhindiss±mi, bhariya½ te ±ness±mi, vetana½ pana tuyha½ ekakasseva dass±mi, tuyha½ vetana½ dutiyassa pahotu v± m± v±, tvameva j±neyy±si. Ubhinna½ pana vo sa½v±samanv±ya putt± vij±yissanti, tehipi bah³hi saddhi½ tuyha½ ta½ pahotu v± m± v±, tvameva j±neyy±s²”ti. Gadrabho tasmi½ kathenteyeva anapekkho ahosi. Satth± ima½ dhammadesana½ ±haritv±, “tad±, bhikkhave, gadrabh² janapadakaly±º² ahosi, gadrabho nando, v±ºijo ahameva. Eva½ pubbepesa may± m±tug±mena palobhetv± vin²to”ti j±taka½ niµµh±pes²ti.
