Aggas±vak± pana, “bhante, ki½ kari½s³”ti? “Aggas±vakabh±v±ya patthana½ kari½su”. Ito kappasatasahass±dhikassa hi kapp±na½ asaªkhyeyyassa matthake s±riputto br±hmaºamah±s±lakule nibbatti, n±mena saradam±ºavo n±ma ahosi. Moggall±no gahapatimah±s±lakule nibbatti, n±mena siriva¹¹hanakuµumbiko n±ma ahosi. Te ubhopi sahapa½suk²¼ak± sah±yak± ahesu½. Tasmi½ samaye catusattatisahassajaµil± paº²tapaº²t±ni ojavant±ni phal±phal±ni gahetv± ±cariyassa santika½ sampatt± buddh±nañceva ±cariyassa ca nisinn±sana½ oloketv± ±ha½su– “±cariya maya½ ‘imasmi½ loke tumhehi mahantataro natth²’ti vicar±ma, aya½ pana puriso tumhehi mahantataro maññe”ti? “T±t±, ki½ vadetha, s±sapena saddhi½ aµµhasaµµhiyojanasatasahassubbedha½ sineru½ sama½ k±tu½ icchatha, sabbaññubuddhena saddhi½ mama½ upama½ m± karittha puttak±”ti. Atha te t±pas±, “sac±ya½ ittarasatto abhavissa, amh±ka½ ±cariyo na evar³pa½ upama½ ±harissa, y±va mah± vat±ya½ puriso”ti sabbeva p±desu nipatitv± siras± vandi½su. Atha ne ±cariyo ±ha– “t±t±, amh±ka½ buddh±na½ anucchaviko deyyadhammo natthi, satth± ca bhikkh±c±ravel±ya½ idh±gato, maya½ yath±satti yath±bala½ deyyadhamma½ dass±ma, tumhe ya½ ya½ paº²ta½ phal±phala½, ta½ ta½ ±harath±”ti ±har±petv± hatthe dhovitv± saya½ tath±gatassa patte patiµµh±pesi. Satth±r± phal±phale paµiggahitamatte devat± dibboja½ pakkhipi½su. So t±paso udakampi sayameva pariss±vetv± ad±si. Tato bhattakicca½ katv± nisinne satthari sabbe antev±sike pakkositv± satthu santike s±raº²yakatha½ kathento nis²di. Satth± “dve aggas±vak± bhikkhusaªghena saddhi½ ±gacchant³”ti cintesi. Te satthu citta½ ñatv± satasahassakh²º±savapariv±r± ±gantv± satth±ra½ vanditv± ekamanta½ aµµha½su. Tato saradat±paso antev±sike ±mantesi– “t±t±, buddh±na½ nisinn±sanampi n²ca½, samaºasatasahass±nampi ±sana½ natthi, ajja tumhehi u¼±ra½ buddhasakk±ra½ k±tu½ vaµµati, pabbatap±dato vaººagandhasampann±ni pupph±ni ±harath±”ti. Kathanak±lo papañco viya hoti, iddhimato pana iddhivisayo acinteyyoti muhuttamatteneva te t±pas± vaººagandhasampann±ni pupph±ni ±haritv± buddh±na½ yojanappam±ºa½ pupph±sana½ paññ±pesu½. Ubhinna½ aggas±vak±na½ tig±vuta½, sesabhikkh³na½ a¹¹hayojanik±dibheda½, saªghanavakassa usabhamatta½ ahosi. “Katha½ ekasmi½ assamapade t±va mahant±ni ±san±ni paññatt±n²”ti na cintetabba½. Iddhivisayo hesa. Eva½ paññattesu ±sanesu saradat±paso tath±gatassa purato añjali½ paggayha µhito, “bhante, mayha½ d²gharatta½ hit±ya sukh±ya ima½ pupph±sana½ abhiruhath±”ti ±ha. Tena vutta½–

Saradat±paso pana bhikkh±c±rampi agantv± pupphacchatta½ dh±rayam±nova satt±ha½ p²tisukhena v²tin±mesi. Satth± nirodhato vuµµh±ya dakkhiºapasse nisinna½ paµhama-aggas±vaka½ nisabhatthera½ ±mantesi– “nisabha, sakk±rak±rak±na½ t±pas±na½ pupph±san±numodana½ karoh²”ti. Thero cakkavattirañño santik± paµiladdhamah±l±bho mah±yodho viya tuµµham±naso s±vakap±ramiñ±ºe µhatv± pupph±san±numodana½ ±rabhi. Tassa desan±vas±ne dutiyas±vaka½ ±mantesi– “tvampi bhikkhu dhamma½ deseh²”ti. Anomatthero tepiµaka½ buddhavacana½ sammasitv± dhamma½ kathesi. Dvinna½ aggas±vak±na½ desan±ya ekass±pi abhisamayo n±hosi. Atha satth± aparim±ºe buddhavisaye µhatv± dhammadesana½ ±rabhi. Desan±pariyos±ne µhapetv± saradat±pasa½ sabbepi catusattatisahassajaµil± arahatta½ p±puºi½su satth± “etha, bhikkhavo”ti hattha½ pas±resi. Tesa½ t±vadeva kesamass³ni antaradh±yi½su, aµµhaparikkh±r± k±ye paµimukk±va ahesu½. Saradat±paso “kasm± arahatta½ na patto”ti? Vikkhittacittatt±. Disv±na saradat±pasa½ ±ha– “na te aya½ patthan± mogh± bhavissati, an±gate pana kappasatasahass±dhika½ eka½ asaªkhyeyya½ atikkamitv± gotamo n±ma buddho uppajjissati, tassa m±t± mah±m±y± n±ma dev² bhavissati, pit± suddhodano n±ma mah±r±j±, putto r±hulo n±ma, upaµµh±ko ±nando n±ma, dutiya-aggas±vako moggall±no n±ma, tva½ panassa paµhama-aggas±vako dhammasen±pati s±riputto n±ma bhavissas²”ti Eva½ t±pasa½ by±karitv± dhammakatha½ kathetv± bhikkhusaªghaparivuto ±k±sa½ pakkhandi. Satth± an±gata½ oloketv± tassa patthan±ya samijjhanabh±va½ disv± by±k±si– “tva½ ito kappasatasahass±dhika½ asaªkhyeyya½ atikkamitv± gotamabuddhassa dutiya-aggas±vako bhavissas²”ti. Buddh±na½ by±karaºa½ sutv± siriva¹¹hano haµµhapahaµµho ahosi. Satth±pi bhatt±numodana½ katv± sapariv±ro vih±rameva gato. “Aya½, bhikkhave, mama puttehi tad± patthitapatthan±. Te yath±patthitameva labhi½su. N±ha½ mukha½ oloketv± dem²”ti. Eva½ vutte dve aggas±vak± bhagavanta½ vanditv±, “bhante, maya½ ag±riyabh³t± sam±n± giraggasamajja½ dassan±ya gat±”ti y±va assajittherassa santik± sot±pattiphalapaµivedh± sabba½ paccuppannavatthu½ kathetv±, “te maya½, bhante, ±cariyassa sañcayassa santika½ gantv± ta½ tumh±ka½ p±dam³le ±netuk±m± tassa laddhiy± niss±rabh±va½ kathetv± idh±gamane ±nisa½sa½ kathayimh±. Ta½ sutv± satth±, “bhikkhave, sañcayo attano micch±diµµhit±ya as±ra½ s±roti, s±rañca as±roti gaºhi.
