Thero cintesi– “ime paribb±jak± n±ma s±sanassa paµipakkhabh³t±, imassa s±sanassa gambh²rata½ dassess±m²”ti. Attano navakabh±va½ dassento ±ha– “aha½ kho, ±vuso, navo acirapabbajito, adhun±gato ima½ dhammavinaya½, na t±v±ha½ sakkhiss±mi vitth±rena dhamma½ desetun”ti. Paribb±jako– “aha½ upatisso n±ma, tva½ yath±sattiy± appa½ v± bahu½ v± vada, eta½ nayasatena nayasahassena paµivijjhitu½ mayha½ bh±ro”ti cintetv± ±ha–
“Appa½ v± bahu½ v± bh±sassu, attha½yeva me br³hi;
attheneva me attho, ki½ k±hasi byañjana½ bahun”ti. (Mah±va. 60).
Eva½ vutte thero– “ye dhamm± hetuppabhav±”ti (mah±va. 60; apa. thera 1.1.286) g±tham±ha. Paribb±jako paµhamapadadvayameva sutv± sahassanayapaµimaº¹ite sot±pattiphale patiµµhahi, itara½ padadvaya½ sot±pannak±le niµµh±pesi. So sot±panno hutv± uparivisese appavattante “bhavissati ettha k±raºan”ti sallakkhetv± thera½ ±ha– “bhante, m± upari dhammadesana½ va¹¹hayittha, ettakameva hotu, kuhi½ amh±ka½ satth± vasat²”ti? “Ve¼uvane, ±vuso”ti. “Tena hi, bhante, tumhe purato y±tha, mayha½ eko sah±yako atthi, amhehi ca aññamañña½ katik± kat± ‘amhesu yo amata½ paµhama½ adhigacchati, so itarassa ±rocet³’ti. Aha½ ta½ paµiñña½ mocetv± sah±yaka½ gahetv± tumh±ka½ gatamaggeneva satthu santika½ ±gamiss±m²ti pañcapatiµµhitena therassa p±desu nipatitv± tikkhattu½ padakkhiºa½ katv± thera½ uyyojetv± paribb±jak±r±m±bhimukho agam±si”.
Atha kho kolitaparibb±jako ta½ d³ratova ±gacchanta½ disv±, “ajja mayha½ sah±yakassa mukhavaººo na aññadivasesu viya, addh± tena amata½ adhigata½ bhavissat²”ti amat±dhigama½ pucchi. Sopissa “±m±vuso, amata½ adhigatan”ti paµij±nitv± tameva g±tha½ abh±si. G±th±pariyos±ne kolito sot±pattiphale patiµµhahitv± ±ha– “kuhi½ kira, samma, amh±ka½ satth± vasat²”ti? “Ve¼uvane kira, samma, eva½ no ±cariyena assajittherena kathitan”ti. “Tena hi, samma, ±y±ma, satth±ra½ passiss±m±”ti. S±riputtatthero ca n±mesa sad±pi ±cariyap³jakova, tasm± sah±ya½ evam±ha– “samma, amhehi adhigata½ amata½ amh±ka½ ±cariyassa sañcayaparibb±jakass±pi kathess±ma, bujjham±no paµivijjhissati, appaµivijjhanto amh±ka½ saddahitv± satthu, santika½ gamissati, buddh±na½ desana½ sutv± maggaphalapaµivedha½ karissat²”ti. Tato dvepi jan± sañcayassa santika½ agama½su.
Sañcayo te disv±va– “ki½, t±t±, koci vo amatamaggadesako laddho”ti pucchi. “¾ma, ±cariya, laddho, buddho loke uppanno, dhammo loke uppanno, saªgho loke uppanno, tumhe tucche as±re vicaratha, tasm± etha, satthu santika½ gamiss±m±”ti. “Gacchatha tumhe, n±ha½ sakkhiss±m²”ti “Ki½ k±raº±hi”? “Aha½ mah±janassa ±cariyo hutv± vicari½, vicarantassa me antev±sikav±so c±µiy± udañcanabh±vappatti viya hoti, na sakkhiss±maha½ antev±sikav±sa½ vasitun”ti. “M± eva½ karittha, ±cariy±”ti. “Hotu, t±t±, gacchatha tumhe, n±ha½ sakkhiss±m²”ti. ¾cariya, loke buddhassa uppannak±lato paµµh±ya mah±jano gandham±l±dihattho gantv± tameva p³jessati, mayampi tattheva gamiss±ma. “Tumhe ki½ karissath±”ti? “T±t±, ki½ nu kho imasmi½ loke dandh± bah³, ud±hu paº¹it±”ti. “Dandh±, ±cariya, bah³, paº¹it± ca n±ma katipay± eva hont²”ti. “Tena hi, t±t±, paº¹it± paº¹itassa samaºassa gotamassa santika½ gamissanti, dandh± dandhassa mama santika½ ±gamissanti gacchatha tumhe, n±ha½ gamiss±m²”ti. Te “paññ±yissatha tumhe, ±cariy±”ti pakkami½su. Tesu gacchantesu sañcayassa paris± bhijji, tasmi½ khaºe ±r±mo tuccho ahosi. So tuccha½ ±r±ma½ disv± uºha½ lohita½ cha¹¹esi. Tehipi saddhi½ gacchantesu pañcasu paribb±jakasatesu sañcayassa a¹¹hateyyasat±ni nivatti½su, atha kho te attano antev±sikehi a¹¹hateyyehi paribb±jakasatehi saddhi½ ve¼uvana½ agama½su.
Satth± catuparisamajjhe nisinno dhamma½ desento te d³ratova disv± bhikkh³ ±mantesi– “ete, bhikkhave, dve sah±yak± ±gacchanti kolito ca upatisso ca, eta½ me s±vakayuga½ bhavissati agga½ bhaddayugan”ti. Te satth±ra½ vanditv± ekamanta½ nis²di½su, nis²ditv± ca pana bhagavanta½ etadavocu½– “labheyy±ma maya½, bhante, bhagavato santike pabbajja½, labheyy±ma upasampadan”ti. “Etha, bhikkhavo”ti bhagav± avoca– “sv±kkh±to dhammo, caratha brahmacariya½ samm± dukkhassa antakiriy±y±”ti. Sabbepi iddhimayapattac²varadhar± saµµhivassikatther± viya ahesu½.
Atha nesa½ paris±ya caritavasena satth± dhammadesana½ va¹¹hesi. Ýhapetv± dve aggas±vake avases± arahatta½ p±puºi½su, aggas±vak±na½ pana uparimaggattayakicca½ na niµµh±si. Ki½ k±raº±? S±vakap±ramiñ±ºassa mahantat±ya. Ath±yasm± mah±moggall±no pabbajitadivasato sattame divase magadharaµµhe kallav±lag±maka½ upaniss±ya viharanto thinamiddhe okkamante satth±r± sa½vejito thinamiddha½ vinodetv± tath±gatena dinna½ dh±tukammaµµh±na½ suºantova uparimaggattayakicca½ niµµh±petv± s±vakap±ramiñ±ºassa matthaka½ patto. S±riputtattheropi pabbajitadivasato a¹¹ham±sa½ atikkamitv± satth±r± saddhi½ tameva r±jagaha½ upaniss±ya s³karakhataleºe viharanto attano bh±gineyyassa d²ghanakhaparibb±jakassa vedan±pariggahasuttante desiyam±ne sutt±nus±rena ñ±ºa½ pesetv± parassa va¹¹hitabhatta½ paribhuñjanto viya s±vakap±ramiñ±ºassa matthaka½ patto. Nanu c±yasm± mah±pañño, atha kasm± mah±moggall±nato ciratarena s±vakap±ramiñ±ºa½ p±puº²ti? Parikammamahantat±ya. Yath± hi duggatamanuss± yattha katthaci gantuk±m± khippameva nikkhamanti, r±j³na½ pana hatthiv±hanakappan±di½ mahanta½ parikamma½ laddhu½ vaµµati, eva½sampadamida½ veditabba½.
Ta½ divasaññeva pana satth± va¹¹ham±nakacch±y±ya ve¼uvane s±vakasannip±ta½ katv± dvinna½ ther±na½ aggas±vakaµµh±na½ datv± p±timokkha½ uddisi. Bhikkh³ ujjh±yi½su– “satth± mukholokanena bhikkha½ deti, aggas±vakaµµh±na½ dadantena n±ma paµhama½ pabbajit±na½ pañcavaggiy±na½ d±tu½ vaµµati, ete anolokentena yasatherappamukh±na½ pañcapaºº±sabhikkh³na½ d±tu½ vaµµati, ete anolokentena bhaddavaggiy±na½ ti½sajan±na½, ete anolokentena uruvelakassap±d²na½ tebh±tik±na½, ete pana ettake mah±there pah±ya sabbapacch± pabbajit±na½ aggas±vakaµµh±na½ dadantena mukha½ oloketv± dinnan”ti. Satth±, “ki½ kathetha, bhikkhave”ti pucchitv±, “ida½ n±m±”ti vutte “n±ha½, bhikkhave, mukha½ oloketv± bhikkha½ demi, etesa½ pana attan± attan± patthitapatthitameva demi. Aññ±takoº¹añño hi ekasmi½ sasse nava v±re aggasassad±na½ dadanto aggas±vakaµµh±na½ patthetv± n±d±si, aggadhamma½ pana arahatta½ sabbapaµhama½ paµivijjhitu½ patthetv± ad±s²”ti. “Kad± pana bhagav±”ti? “Suºissatha, bhikkhave”ti. “¾ma, bhante”ti, bhagav± at²ta½ ±hari–
Bhikkhave ito ekanavutikappe vipass² n±ma bhagav± loke udap±di. Tad± mah±k±¼o c³¼ak±¼oti dvebh±tik± kuµumbik± mahanta½ s±likkhetta½ vap±pesu½. Athekadivasa½ c³¼ak±¼o s±likkhetta½ gantv± eka½ s±ligabbha½ ph±letv± kh±di, ta½ atimadhura½ ahosi. So buddhappamukhassa saªghassa s±ligabbhad±na½ d±tuk±mo hutv± jeµµhabh±tika½ upasaªkamitv±, “bh±tika, s±ligabbha½ ph±letv± buddh±na½ anucchavika½ katv± pac±petv± d±na½ dem±”ti ±ha. “Ki½ vadesi, t±ta, s±ligabbha½ ph±letv± d±na½ n±ma neva at²te bh³tapubba½, na an±gatepi bhavissati, m± sassa½ n±say²”ti; vuttopi so punappuna½ y±ciyeva Atha na½ bh±t±, “tena hi s±likkhetta½ dve koµµh±se katv± mama koµµh±sa½ an±masitv± attano koµµh±se khette ya½ icchasi, ta½ karoh²”ti ±ha. So “s±dh³”ti khetta½ vibhajitv± bah³ manusse hatthakamma½ y±citv± s±ligabbha½ ph±letv± nirudakena kh²rena pac±petv± sappimadhusakkhar±d²hi yojetv± buddhappamukhassa bhikkhusaªghassa d±na½ datv± bhattakiccapariyos±ne– “ida½, bhante, mama aggad±na½ aggadhammassa sabbapaµhama½ paµivedh±ya sa½vattat³”ti ±ha. Satth± “eva½ hot³”ti anumodanamak±si.
So khetta½ gantv± olokento sakalakkhetta½ kaººikabaddhehi viya s±lis²sehi sañchanna½ disv± pañcavidhap²ti½ paµilabhitv±, “l±bh± vata me”ti cintetv± puthukak±le puthukagga½ n±ma ad±si, g±mav±s²hi saddhi½ aggasassad±na½ n±ma ad±si, l±yane l±yanagga½, veºikaraºe veºagga½, kal±p±d²su kal±pagga½, khalagga½, khalabhaº¹agga½, koµµhagganti. Eva½ ekasasse nava v±re aggad±na½ ad±si. Tassa sabbav±resu gahitagahitaµµh±na½ parip³ri, sassa½ atireka½ uµµh±nasampanna½ ahosi. Dhammo hi n±mesa att±na½ rakkhanta½ rakkhati. Ten±ha bhagav±–
“Dhammo have rakkhati dhammac±ri½,
dhammo suciººo sukham±vah±ti;
es±nisa½so dhamme suciººe,
na duggati½ gacchati dhammac±r²”ti. (Therag±. 303; j±. 1.10.102)–

“Evamesa vipass²samm±sambuddhak±le aggadhamma½ paµhama½ paµivijjhitu½ patthento nava v±re aggad±n±ni ad±si. Ito satasahassakappamatthake pana ha½savat²nagare padumuttarasambuddhak±lepi satt±ha½ mah±d±na½ datv± tassa bhagavato p±dam³le nipajjitv± aggadhammassa paµhama½ paµivijjhanatthameva patthana½ µhapesi. Iti imin± patthitameva may± dinna½, n±ha½, bhikkhave, mukha½ oloketv± dem²”ti.

“Yasakulaputtappamukh± pañcapaññ±sa jan± ki½ kamma½ kari½su, bhante”ti? “Etepi ekassa buddhassa santike arahatta½ patthent± bahu½ puññakamma½ katv± aparabh±ge anuppanne buddhe sah±yak± hutv± vaggabandhanena puññ±ni karont± an±thamatasar²r±ni paµijaggant± vicari½su. Te ekadivasa½ sagabbha½ itthi½ k±lakata½ disv±, ‘jh±pess±m±’ti sus±na½ hari½su. Tesu pañca jane ‘tumhe jh±peth±’ti sus±ne µhapetv± ses± g±ma½ paviµµh±. Yasad±rako ta½ matasar²ra½ s³lehi vijjhitv± parivattetv± parivattetv± jh±pento asubhasañña½ paµilabhi, itaresampi catunna½ jan±na½– ‘passatha, bho, ima½ sar²ra½ tattha tattha viddha½sitacamma½, kabaragor³pa½ viya asuci½ duggandha½ paµik³lan’ti dassesi. Tepi tattha asubhasañña½ paµilabhi½su. Te pañcapi jan± g±ma½ gantv± sesasah±yak±na½ kathayi½su. Yaso pana d±rako geha½ gantv± m±t±pit³nañca bhariy±ya ca kathesi. Te sabbepi asubha½ bh±vayi½su. Idametesa½ pubbakamma½. Teneva yasassa itth±g±re sus±nasaññ± uppajji, t±ya ca upanissayasampattiy± sabbesampi vises±dhigamo nibbatti. Eva½ imepi attan± patthitameva labhi½su. N±ha½ mukha½ oloketv± damm²”ti.
