Sahassamapi ce v±c±ti ima½ dhammadesana½ satth± ve¼uvane viharanto tambad±µhikacoragh±taka½ ±rabbha kathesi. Ek³napañcasat± kira cor± g±magh±tak±d²ni karont± j²vika½ kappesu½. Atheko puriso nibbiddhapiªgalo tambad±µhiko tesa½ santika½ gantv± “ahampi tumhehi saddhi½ j²viss±m²”ti ±ha. Atha na½ corajeµµhakassa dassetv± “ayampi amh±ka½ santike vasitu½ icchat²”ti ±ha½su. Atha na½ corajeµµhako oloketv± “aya½ m±tu thana½ chinditv± pitu v± galalohita½ n²haritv± kh±danasamattho atikakkha¼o”ti cintetv± “natthetassa amh±ka½ santike vasanakiccan”ti paµikkhipi. So eva½ paµikkhittopi ±gantv± eka½ tasseva antev±sika½ upaµµhahanto ±r±dhesi. So ta½ ±d±ya corajeµµhaka½ upasaªkamitv±, “s±mi, bhaddako esa, amh±ka½ upak±rako, saªgaºhatha nan”ti y±citv± corajeµµhaka½ paµicch±pesi. Athekadivasa½ n±gar± r±japurisehi saddhi½ ekato hutv± te core gahetv± vinicchayamah±macc±na½ santika½ nayi½su. Amacc± tesa½ pharasun± s²saccheda½ ±º±pesu½. Tato “ko nu kho ime m±ressat²”ti pariyesant± te m±retu½ icchanta½ kañci adisv± corajeµµhaka½ ±ha½su– “tva½ ime m±retv± j²vitañceva labhissasi samm±nañca, m±rehi ne”ti. Sopi att±na½ niss±ya vasitatt± te m±retu½ na icchi. Eten³p±yena ek³napañcasate pucchi½su, sabbepi na icchi½su. Sabbapacch± ta½ nibbiddhapiªgala½ tambad±µhika½ pucchi½su. So “s±dh³”ti sampaµicchitv± te sabbepi m±retv± j²vitañceva samm±nañca labhi. Eten³p±yena nagarassa dakkhiºatopi pañca corasat±ni ±netv± amacc±na½ dassetv± tehi tesampi s²sacchede ±ºatte corajeµµhaka½ ±di½ katv± pucchant± kañci m±retu½ icchanta½ adisv± “purimadivase eko puriso pañcasate core m±resi, kaha½ nu kho so”ti. “Asukaµµh±ne amheti diµµho”ti vutte ta½ pakkos±petv± “ime m±rehi, samm±na½ lacchas²”ti ±º±pesu½. So µh±n± c±vitadivase “kh²ray±gu½ me pacath±”ti vatv± ahatavatthasumanam±l±vilepan±ni g±h±petv± nadi½ gantv± nhatv± ahatavatth±ni niv±setv± m±l± pilandhitv± gandhehi anulittagatto geha½ ±gantv± nis²di. Athassa navasappin± saªkhata½ kh²ray±gu½ purato µhapetv± hatthadhovanodaka½ ±hari½su. Tasmi½ khaºe s±riputtatthero sam±pattito vuµµh±ya “kattha nu kho ajja may± gantabban”ti attano bhikkh±c±ra½ olokento tassa gehe kh²ray±gu½ disv± “karissati nu kho me puriso saªgahan”ti upadh±rento “ma½ disv± mama saªgaha½ karissati, karitv± ca pana mah±sampatti½ labhissati aya½ kulaputto”ti ñatv± c²vara½ p±rupitv± patta½ ±d±ya tassa gehadv±re µhitameva att±na½ dassesi. So thera½ disv± pasannacitto cintesi– “may± cira½ coragh±takakamma½ kata½, bah³ manuss± m±rit±, id±ni me gehe kh²ray±gu paµiyatt±, thero ±gantv± mama gehadv±re µhito, id±ni may± ayyassa deyyadhamma½ d±tu½ vaµµat²”ti purato µhapitay±gu½ apanetv± thera½ upasaªkamitv± vanditv± antogehe nis²d±petv± patte kh²ray±gu½ ±kiritv± navasappi½ ±siñcitv± thera½ b²jam±no aµµh±si. Athassa ca d²gharatta½ aladdhapubbat±ya kh²ray±gu½ p±tu½ balava-ajjh±sayo ahosi. Thero tassa ajjh±saya½ ñatv± “tva½, up±saka, attano y±gu½ piv±”ti ±ha. So aññassa hatthe b²jani½ datv± y±gu½ pivi. Thero b²jam±na½ purisa½ “gaccha, up±sakameva b²j±h²”ti ±ha. So b²jiyam±no kucchip³ra½ y±gu½ pivitv± ±gantv± thera½ b²jam±no µhatv± kat±h±rakiccassa therassa patta½ aggahesi. Thero tassa anumodana½ ±rabhi. So attano citta½ therassa dhammadesan±nuga½ k±tu½ n±sakkhi. Thero sallakkhetv±, “up±saka, kasm± citta½ desan±nuga½ k±tu½ na sakkos²”ti pucchi. “Bhante, may± d²gharatta½ kakkha¼akamma½ kata½, bah³ manuss± m±rit±, tamaha½ attano kamma½ anussaranto citta½ ayyassa desan±nuga½ k±tu½ n±sakkhin”ti. Thero “vañcess±mi nan”ti cintetv± “ki½ pana tva½ attano ruciy± ak±si, aññehi k±ritos²”ti? “R±j± ma½ k±resi, bhante”ti. “Ki½ nu kho te, up±saka, eva½ sante akusala½ hot²”ti? Mandadh±tuko up±sako thereneva½ vutte “natthi mayha½ akusalan”ti saññ² hutv± tena hi, “bhante, dhamma½ katheth±”ti. So there anumodana½ karonte ekaggacitto hutv± dhamma½ suºanto sot±pattimaggassa orato anulomika½ khanti½ nibbattesi. Theropi anumodana½ katv± pakk±mi. Up±saka½ thera½ anugantv± nivattam±na½ ek± yakkhin² dhenuvesena ±gantv± ure paharitv± m±resi. So k±la½ katv± tusitapure nibbatti. Bhikkh³ dhammasabh±ya½ katha½ samuµµh±pesu½ “coragh±tako pañcapaºº±sa vass±ni kakkha¼akamma½ katv± ajjeva tato mutto, ajjeva therassa bhikkha½ datv± ajjeva k±la½ kato, kaha½ nu kho nibbatto”ti. Satth± ±gantv± “k±ya nuttha, bhikkhave, etarahi kath±ya sannisinn±”ti pucchitv± “im±ya n±m±”ti vutte “bhikkhave, tusitapure nibbatto”ti ±ha. “Ki½, bhante, vadetha, ettaka½ k±la½ ettake manusse gh±tetv± tusitavim±ne nibbatto”ti. “¾ma, bhikkhave, mahanto tena kaly±ºamitto laddho, so s±riputtassa dhammadesana½ sutv± anulomañ±ºa½ nibbattetv± ito cuto tusitavim±ne nibbatto”ti vatv± ima½ g±tham±ha–
“Subh±sita½ suºitv±na, nagare coragh±tako;
anulomakhanti½ laddh±na, modat² tidiva½ gato”ti.
“Bhante anumodanakath± n±ma na balav±, tena kata½ akusalakamma½ mahanta½, katha½ ettakena visesa½ nibbattes²”ti. Satth± “ki½, bhikkhave, ‘may± desitadhammassa appa½ v± bahu½ v±’ti m± pam±ºa½ gaºhatha. Ekav±c±pi hi atthanissit± seyy±v±”ti vatv± anusandhi½ ghaµetv± dhamma½ desento ima½ g±tham±ha– 100. “Sahassamapi ce v±c±, anatthapadasa½hit±;
eka½ atthapada½ seyyo, ya½ sutv± upasammat²”ti.
Tattha sahassamap²ti paricchedavacana½, eka½ sahassa½ dve sahass±n²ti eva½ sahassena cepi paricchinnav±c± honti, t± ca pana anatthapadasa½hit± ±k±savaººan±pabbatavaººan±vanavaººan±d²ni pak±sakehi aniyy±nad²pakehi anatthakehi padehi sa½hit± y±va bahuk± hoti, t±va p±pik± ev±ti attho. Eka½ atthapadanti ya½ pana “aya½ k±yo, aya½ k±yagat±sati, tisso vijj± anuppatto, kata½ buddhassa s±sanan”ti evar³pa½ eka½ atthapada½ sutv± r±g±div³pasamena upasammati, ta½ atthas±dhaka½ nibb±nappaµisa½yutta½ khandhadh±tu-±yatana-indriyabalabojjhaªgasatipaµµh±naparid²paka½ ekampi pada½ seyyoyev±ti attho. Desan±vas±ne bah³ sot±pattiphal±d²ni p±puºi½s³ti.
