J±ta½ bh³ta½ at²ta½ bhagavato cariya½, ta½ k²yati kath²yati eten±ti j±taka½. J±takap±¼i hi idha “j±takan”ti vutt±. Aññatra pana j±ta½ eva j±takanti gahetabba½. Tath± hi j±takasaddo desan±yampi vattati “itivuttaka½ j±taka½ abbhutadhamman”ti-±d²su. J±tiyampi vattati “j±taka½ samodh±nes²”ti-±d²su.
Pakka n²cagatiya½. N²cagamana½ n±ma h²nagamana½ h²nappavatti v±. N²casaddo hi h²nav±cako “n²ce kule pacc±j±to”ti ettha viya. Pakkati kriy±padamettha dissati, na n±mikapada½. Yattha yattha n±mikapada½ na dissati, tattha tattha n±mikapada½ upaparikkhitv± gahetabba½. U sadde. Avati, avanti. Avasi. Ettha “yo ±tum±na½ sayameva p±v±”ti p±¼i papubbassa udh±tussa payogoti daµµhabbo. Papubbassa vadadh±tussa dak±ralopappayogotipi vattu½ yujjati.
Vaªka koµille. Vaªkati. Vaªka½. Vaªkasaddo hi vakkasaddena sam±nattho, vakkasaddo ca vaªkasaddena. Tath± hi–
“Ya½ nissit± jagatiruha½, sv±ya½ aggi½ pamuñcati;
dis± bhajatha vakkaªg±, j±ta½ saraºato bhayan”ti.

P±¼i dissati. Aya½ pana vakkasaddo sakkaµabh±sa½ patv± kak±rarak±rasaññogakkhariko bhavati, dh±tubh±vo panassa por±ºehi na vutto, tasm± kriy±pada½ na diµµha½. Imassa pana vaªkasaddassa “vaªka koµille”ti dh±tubh±vo vutto, “vaªkat²”ti kriy±padañca, p±¼iya½ tu “vaªkat²”ti kriy±pada½ na diµµha½, tath± bh±vav±cako vaªkasaddopi. V±ccaliªgo pana anekesu µh±nesu diµµho. Tatta vaªkat²ti kriy±pada½ p±¼iya½ avijjam±nampi gahetabbameva n±that²ti kriy±padamiva. Bh±vav±cakassa pana vaªkasaddassa atthit± natthit± ca p±¼i-±d²su punappuna½ upaparikkhitabb±. Kecettha vadeyyu½ “yadi bh±vav±cako vaªkasaddo natthi, katha½ ‘aµµhavaªka½ maºiratana½ u¼±ran’ti ettha sam±so”ti. Ettha pana aµµhasu µh±nesu vaªka½ aµµhavaªka½, na aµµhavaªk±ni yass±ti. Atha v± vaªkasaddoya½, “vaªkaghast±”ti-±disu;
ba¼ise giribhede ca, vattate sa pum± tad±.
Ayañhi “te’me jan± vaªkaghast± sayanti. Yath±pi maccho ba¼isa½, vaªka½ ma½sena ch±dita½. Vaªkaghastova ambujo”ti-±d²su ba¼ise vattati.
Ettha siy± “nanu ca bho ‘yath±pi maccho ba¼isa½, vaªka½ ma½sena ch±ditan’ti ettha vaªkasaddo guºav±cako visesanasado, yena ba¼iso visesito, tena vaªka½ kuµila½ ba¼isanti attho viññ±yat²”ti? Tanna, vaªkasadde avuttepi ba¼isasabh±vassa vaªkatt± kuµilattho p±kaµoti natthi visesanasaddena payojana½. Ida½ pana “ba¼isa½ vaªkan”ti vacana½ “hatthi n±go. Saroruha½ paduma½. Hatth² ca kuñjaro n±go”ti-±divacanamiva pariy±yavacana½, tasm± “vaªkan”ti padassa “kuµilan”ti attho na gahetabbo. Atha v± yath± “yath± ±raññaka½ n±ga½, danti½ anveti hatthin²”ti ettha n±gasaddassa dant²saddassa ca aññamaññapariy± yavacanattepi dantinti manoramadantayuttanti attho sa½vaººito, tath± “ba¼isa½ vaªkan”ti imesampi aññamañña½ pariy±yavacanattepi vaªkanti kuµilanti attho vattabbo. Evañhi sati attho s±lar±j± viya suphullito hoti, desan± ca vil±sappatt±, na pana “vaªka½ ba¼isan”ti sadd±na½ guºaguº²vasena sam±n±dhikaraºabh±vo icchitabbo “buddho bhagav± verañj±ya½ viharat²”ti-±d²su “buddho bhagav±”ti imesa½ viya sam±n±dhikaraºabh±vassa anicchitabbatt±. Na hi ²disesu µh±nesu sam±n±dhikaraºabh±vo por±ºehi anumato.
“Yattha et±diso satth±, loke appaµipuggalo;
tath±gato balappatto, sambuddho parinibbuto”ti,
“Buddha½ buddha½ nikhilavisaya½ suddhiy± y±va suddhin”ti ca ±d²su pana anumato. Ettha hi “et±diso”ti ca “appaµipuggalo”ti ca “tath±gato”ti ca “balappatto”ti ca “sambuddho”ti ca “parinibbuto”ti ca im±ni “satth±”ti anena padena sam±n±dhikaraº±ni. Tath± “buddha½ buddhan”ti dvinna½ pad±na½ pacchima½ purimena sam±n±dhikaraºa½ bhavati.
Iti “yath±pi maccho ba¼isa½, vaªka½ ma½sena ch±ditan”ti ettha vaªkasaddo ba¼isass±bhidh±nantara½, na guºav±cako. Eva½ vaªkasaddo ba¼ise vattati. “Kaªka½ gacch±ma pabbata½. D³re vaªkatapabbato”ti-±d²su pana girivisese vattati. Ettha ca “vaªkapabbato”ti vattabbe sukhucc±raºattha½ niruttinayena majjhe animitta½ tak±r±gama½ katv± “vaªkatapabbato”ti vutta½. Atha v± vaªkoyeva vaªkat±, yath± devo eva devat±. Yath± ca dis± eva disat±ti, eva½ paccayavasena vaªkat± ca s± pabbato c±ti “vaªkatapabbato”ti vutta½, majjhe rassavasena ceta½ daµµhabba½. Yasm± pana lokasaddo sam³hepi dissati, tasm± lokiyati samud±yavasena paññ±piyat²ti loko, sam³hoti ayampi attho gahetabbo. Atha v± lokoti tayo lok± kilesaloko bhavaloko indriyalokoti. Tesa½ sar³pa½ cur±digaºe kathess±ma bahuvidhatañca. Bahiddh± pana kav²hi “loko tu bhuvane jane”ti ettakameva vutta½.
Siloka saªgh±te. Saªgh±to piº¹ana½. Silokati, siloko, silokamanukass±mi. Akkharapadaniyamito vacanasaªgh±to siloko. So pajjanti vuccati, tath± hi “siloko yasassi pajje”ti kavayo vadanti.
