Navaªga½ anumajjanto, rattibh±ge rahogato;
addakkhi meº¹ake pañhe, dunniveµhe saniggahe.
“Pariy±yabh±sita½ atthi, atthi sandh±yabh±sita½;
sabh±vabh±sita½ atthi, dhammar±jassa s±sane.
“Tesamattha½ aviññ±ya, meº¹ake jinabh±site;
an±gatamhi addh±ne, viggaho tattha hessati.
“Handa kathi½ pas±detv±, chejj±pess±mi meº¹ake;
tassa niddiµµhamaggena, niddisissantyan±gate”ti.
Atha kho milindo r±j± pabh±t±ya rattiy± uddhaste [uµµhite (sy±.), uggate (s². p².)] aruºe s²sa½ nhatv± sirasi añjali½ paggahetv± at²t±n±gatapaccuppanne samm±sambuddhe anussaritv± aµµha vattapad±ni sam±diyi “ito me an±gat±ni satta divas±ni aµµha guºe sam±diyitv± tapo caritabbo bhavissati soha½ ciººatapo sam±no ±cariya½ ±r±dhetv± meº¹ake pañhe pucchiss±m²”ti. Atha kho milindo r±j± pakatidussayuga½ apanetv± ±bharaº±ni ca omuñcitv± k±s±va½ niv±setv± muº¹akapaµis²saka½ s²se paµimuñcitv± munibh±vamupagantv± aµµha guºe sam±diyi “ima½ satt±ha½ may± na r±jattho anus±sitabbo, na r±g³pasañhita½ citta½ upp±detabba½, na dos³pasañhita½ citta½ upp±detabba½, na moh³pasañhita½ citta½ upp±detabba½, d±sakammakaraporise janepi niv±tavuttin± bhavitabba½, k±yika½ v±casika½ anurakkhitabba½, chapi ±yatan±ni niravasesato anurakkhitabb±ni, mett±bh±van±ya m±nasa½ pakkhipitabban”ti. “Atthi me, bhante n±gasena, koci attho tumhehi saddhi½ mantayitabbo, na tattha añño koci tatiyo icchitabbo, suññe ok±se pavivitte araññe aµµhaªgup±gate samaºas±ruppe. Tattha so pañho pucchitabbo bhavissati, tattha me guyha½ na k±tabba½ na rahassaka½, arah±maha½ rahassaka½ suºitu½ sumantane upagate, upam±yapi so attho upaparikkhitabbo, yath± ki½ viya, yath± n±ma, bhante n±gasena, mah±pathav² nikkhepa½ arahati nikkhepe upagate. Evameva kho, bhante n±gasena, arah±maha½ rahassaka½ suºitu½ sumantane upagate”ti. Garun± saha pavivittapavana½ pavisitv± idamavoca– “bhante n±gasena, idha purisena mantayituk±mena aµµha µh±n±ni parivajjayitabb±ni bhavanti, na tesu µh±nesu viññ³ puriso attha½ manteti, mantitopi attho paripatati na sambhavati. Katam±ni aµµha µh±n±ni? Visamaµµh±na½ parivajjan²ya½, sabhaya½ parivajjan²ya½, ativ±taµµh±na½ parivajjan²ya½, paµicchannaµµh±na½ parivajjan²ya½, devaµµh±na½ parivajjan²ya½, pantho parivajjan²yo, saªg±mo [saªkamo (s². p².)] parivajjan²yo, udakatittha½ parivajjan²ya½. Im±ni aµµha µh±n±ni parivajjan²y±n²”ti.
Thero ±ha “ko doso visamaµµh±ne, sabhaye, ativ±te, paµicchanne, devaµµh±ne, panthe, saªg±me, udakatitthe”ti? “Visame, bhante n±gasena, mantito attho vikirati vidhamati paggharati na sambhavati, sabhaye mano santassati, santassito na samm± attha½ samanupassati, ativ±te saddo avibh³to hoti, paµicchanne upassuti½ tiµµhanti, devaµµh±ne mantito attho garuka½ pariºamati, panthe mantito attho tuccho bhavati, saªg±me cañcalo bhavati, udakatitthe p±kaµo bhavati. Bhavat²ha–
“‘Visama½ sabhaya½ ativ±to, paµicchanna½ devanissita½;
pantho ca saªg±mo tittha½, aµµhete parivajjiy±”’ti.

Aµµha mantanassa parivajjan²yaµµh±n±ni.
