S±raº²yadhammap³rako attan± laddha½ paµigg±hakesu vijjam±nesu chinnabhatto hutv±pi detiyeva, tasm± tassa d±najjh±sayad±n±bhiratabh±vo bhikkhusaªghe p±kaµo ahosi. Athekadivasa½ bhikkh³ dhammasabh±ya½ katha½ samuµµh±pesu½, “±vuso, asuko n±ma bhikkhu d±najjh±sayo d±n±bhirato attan± laddha½ pasatamattap±n²yampi lobha½ chinditv± sabrahmac±r²na½ deti, bodhisattassevassa ajjh±sayo”ti. Satth± ta½ katha½ dibb±ya sotadh±tuy± sutv± gandhakuµito nikkhamitv± ±gantv± “k±ya nuttha, bhikkhave, etarahi kath±ya sannisinn±”ti pucchitv± “im±ya n±m±”ti vutte “aya½, bhikkhave, bhikkhu pubbe ad±nas²lo macchar² tiºaggena telabindumpi ad±t± ahosi, atha na½ aha½ dametv± nibbisevana½ katv± d±naphala½ vaººetv± d±ne patiµµh±pesi½, so ‘pasatamatta½ udakampi labhitv± adatv± na piviss±m²’ti mama santike vara½ aggahesi, tassa phalena d±najjh±sayo d±n±bhirato j±to”ti vatv± tehi y±cito at²ta½ ±hari.
At²te b±r±ºasiya½ brahmadatte rajja½ k±rente eko gahapati a¹¹ho ahosi as²tikoµivibhavo. So rañño santika½ gantv± “deva, mama ghare as²tikoµidhana½ atthi, ta½ gaºh±h²”ti vatv± “na mayha½ tava dhanenattho, bahu½ me dhana½, itopi yadicchasi, ta½ gaºh±h²”ti vutte “ki½ nu, deva, mama dhana½ d±tu½ labh±m²”ti ±ha. Atha raññ± “yath±ruci karoh²”ti vutte cat³su nagaradv±resu nagaramajjhe nivesanadv±re c±ti cha d±nas±l±yo k±retv± devasika½ chasatasahassaparicc±ga½ karonto mah±d±na½ pavattesi. So y±vaj²va½ d±na½ datv± “ima½ mama d±nava½sa½ m± upacchindath±”ti putte anus±sitv± j²vitapariyos±ne sakko hutv± nibbatti. Puttopissa tatheva d±na½ datv± cando hutv± nibbatti, tassa putto s³riyo hutv± nibbatti, tassa putto m±tali hutv± nibbatti, tassa putto pañcasikho hutv± nibbatti, tassa pana putto chaµµho seµµhiµµh±na½ laddh± macchariyakosiyo n±ma ahosi as²tikoµivibhavoyeva. So tato paµµh±ya dhanameva sa½harati, neva attan± paribhuñjati, na puttad±r±d²na½ deti, kañjikabilaªgadutiya½ sakuº¹akabhatta½ bhuñjati, m³laphalamattatant±ni th³lavatth±ni niv±seti, paººachatta½ matthake dh±retv± jaraggoºayuttena jajjararathakena y±ti. Iti tassa asappurisassa tattaka½ dhana½ sunakhena laddha½ n±¼ikera½ viya ahosi.
So ekadivasa½ r±j³paµµh±na½ gacchanto “anuseµµhi½ ±d±ya gamiss±m²”ti tassa geha½ agam±si. Tasmi½ khaºe anuseµµhi puttadh²t±d²hi parivuto navasappipakkamadhusakkharacuººehi saªkhata½ p±y±sa½ bhuñjam±no nisinno hoti. So macchariyakosiya½ disv± ±san± vuµµh±ya “ehi, mah±seµµhi, imasmi½ pallaªke nis²da, p±y±sa½ bhuñjiss±m±”ti ±ha. Tassa p±y±sa½ disv±va mukhe khe¼± uppajji, bhuñjituk±mo ahosi, eva½ pana cintesi– “sac±ha½ bhuñjiss±mi, anuseµµhino mama geha½ ±gatak±le paµisakk±ro k±tabbo bhavissati, eva½ me dhana½ nassissati, na bhuñjiss±m²”ti. Atha punappuna½ y±ciyam±nopi “id±ni me bhutta½, suhitosm²”ti na icchi. Anuseµµhimhi bhuñjante pana olokento mukhe sañj±yam±nena khe¼ena nis²ditv± tassa bhattakicc±vas±ne tena saddhi½ r±janivesana½ gantv± r±j±na½ passitv± r±janivesanato otaritv± attano geha½ anuppatto p±y±sataºh±ya p²¼iyam±no cintesi– “sac±ha½ ‘p±y±sa½ bhuñjituk±momh²’ti vakkh±mi, mah±jano bhuñjituk±mo bhavissati, bah³ taº¹ul±dayo nassissanti, na kassaci kathess±m²”ti. So rattindiva½ p±y±sameva cintento v²tin±metv±pi dhanan±sanabhayena kassaci akathetv±va pip±sa½ adhiv±sesi, anukkamena adhiv±setu½ asakkonto uppaº¹uppaº¹ukaj±to ahosi. Eva½ santepi dhanan±sanabhayena akathento aparabh±ge dubbalo hutv± sayana½ upag³hitv± nipajji.
Atha na½ bhariy± upagantv± hatthena piµµhi½ parimajjam±n± “ki½ te, s±mi, aph±sukan”ti pucchi. “Taveva sar²re aph±suka½ karohi, mama aph±suka½ natth²”ti. “S±mi, uppaº¹uppaº¹ukaj±tosi, ki½ nu te k±ci cint± atthi, ud±hu r±j± te kupito, adu puttehi avam±no kato, atha v± pana k±ci taºh± uppann±”ti? “¾ma, taºh± me uppann±”ti. “Kathehi, s±m²”ti? “Kathess±mi, sakkhissasi na½ rakkhitun”ti. “Rakkhitabbayuttak± ce, rakkhiss±m²”ti. So ta½ sabba½ ceµakena g±h±petv± “gaccha asukaµµh±ne tiµµh±h²”ti ta½ purato pesetv± ekakova oguºµhika½ katv± aññ±takavesena tattha gantv± nad²t²re ekasmi½ gaccham³le uddhana½ k±retv± d±rudaka½ ±har±petv± “tva½ gantv± ekasmi½ magge µhatv± kañcideva disv± mama sañña½ dadeyy±si, may± pakkositak±leva ±gaccheyy±s²”ti ta½ pesetv± aggi½ katv± p±y±sa½ paci.
Tasmi½ khaºe sakko devar±j± dasasahassayojana½ alaªkatadevanagara½, saµµhiyojana½ suvaººav²thi½, yojanasahassubbedha½ vejayanta½, pañcayojanasatika½ sudhammasabha½, saµµhiyojana½ paº¹ukambalasil±sana½, pañcayojan±vaµµa½ kañcanam±lasetacchatta½, a¹¹hateyyakoµisaªkh± devacchar±, alaªkatapaµiyatta½ attabh±vanti ima½ attano siri½ oloketv± “ki½ nu kho katv± may± aya½ yaso laddho”ti cintetv± b±r±ºasiya½ seµµhibh³tena pavattita½ d±na½ addasa. Tato “mama putt±dayo kuhi½ nibbatt±”ti olokento “putto me cando devaputto hutv± nibbatti, tassa putto s³riyo, tassa putto, m±tali, tassa putto, pañcasikho”ti sabbesa½ nibbatti½ disv± “pañcasikhassa putto k²diso”ti olokento attano va½sassa upacchinnabh±va½ passi. So cand±dayo pakkos±petv± “etha manussapatha½ gamiss±ma, macchariyakosiyena amh±ka½ va½so upacchinno d±nas±l± jh±pit±, neva attan± paribhuñjati, na paresa½ deti, id±ni pana p±y±sa½ bhuñjituk±mo hutv± ‘ghare paccante aññassapi p±y±so d±tabbo bhavissat²’ti arañña½ pavisitv± ekakova pacati, eta½ dametv± d±naphala½ j±n±petv± ±gamiss±ma, apica kho pana amhehi sabbehi ekato y±ciyam±no tattheva mareyya. Mama paµhama½ gantv± p±y±sa½ y±citv± nisinnak±le tumhe br±hmaºavaººena paµip±µiy± ±gantv± y±ceyy±th±”ti vatv± saya½ t±va br±hmaºavaººena ta½ upasaªkamitv± “bho, kataro b±r±ºasigamanamaggo”ti pucchi. Atha na½ macchariyakosiyo “ki½ ummattakosi, b±r±ºasimaggampi na j±n±si, ki½ ito esi, etto y±h²”ti ±ha.
Sakko tassa vacana½ sutv± asuºanto viya “ki½ kathes²”ti ta½ upagacchateva. Sopi, “are badhira br±hmaºa, ki½ ito esi, purato y±h²”ti viravi. Atha na½ sakko, “bho, kasm± viravasi, dh³mo paññ±yati, aggi paññ±yati, p±y±so paccati, br±hmaº±na½ nimantanaµµh±nena bhavitabba½, ahampi br±hmaº±na½ bhojanak±le thoka½ labhiss±mi, ki½ ma½ nicchubhas²”ti vatv± “natthettha br±hmaº±na½ nimantana½, purato y±h²”ti vutte “tena hi kasm± kujjhasi, tava bhojanak±le thoka½ labhiss±m²”ti ±ha. Atha na½ so “aha½ te ekasitthampi na dass±mi, thoka½ ida½ mama y±panamattameva, may±pi ceta½ y±citv±va laddha½, tva½ aññato ±h±ra½ pariyes±h²”ti vatv± bhariya½ y±citv± laddhabh±va½ sandh±yeva vatv± g±tham±ha–

194. “Ta½ ta½ vad±mi kosiya, dehi d±n±ni bhuñja ca;
ariyamagga½ sam±ruha, nek±s² labhate sukhan”ti.
Tattha anumajjhato majjhakanti appamattakampi majjhe chetv± dve koµµh±se karitv± eka½ koµµh±sa½ datv± tato avasesato anumajjhatopi puna majjhe chetv± eko koµµh±so d±tabboyeva. Ad±na½ n³papajjat²ti appa½ v± bahu½ v± dinna½ hotu, ad±na½ n±ma na hoti, tampi d±nameva mahapphalameva.
