Te ubhopi r±janivesane ekatova va¹¹hi½su. Aññamañña½ sah±yak± hutv± vayappatt± takkasila½ gantv± sabbasipp±ni uggaºhitv± pacc±gami½su. Atha r±j± puttassa uparajja½ ad±si. Bodhisattopi upar±jasseva santike ahosi. Athekadivasa½ upar±j± pitu uyy±nak²¼a½ gacchantassa mahanta½ yasa½ disv± tasmi½ lobha½ upp±detv± “mayha½ pit± mama bh±tikasadiso, sace etassa maraºa½ olokess±mi, mahallakak±le rajja½ labhiss±mi, tad± laddhenapi rajjena ko attho, pitara½ m±retv± rajja½ gaºhiss±m²”ti cintetv± bodhisattassa tamattha½ ±rocesi. Bodhisatto, “samma, pitugh±takamma½ n±ma bh±riya½, nirayamaggo, na sakk± eta½ k±tu½, m± kar²”ti paµib±hi. So punappunampi kathetv± y±vatatiya½ tena paµib±hito p±dam³likehi saddhi½ mantesi. Tepi sampaµicchitv± rañño m±raº³p±ya½ v²ma½si½su. Bodhisatto ta½ pavatti½ ñatv± “n±ha½ etehi saddhi½ ekato bhaviss±m²”ti m±t±pitaro an±pucchitv±va aggadv±rena nikkhamitv± himavanta½ pavisitv± isipabbajja½ pabbajitv± jh±n±bhiññ± nibbattetv± vanam³laphal±h±ro vih±si. R±jakum±ropi tasmi½ gate pitara½ m±r±petv± mahanta½ yasa½ anubhavi. “Sa½kiccakum±ro kira isipabbajja½ pabbajito”ti sutv± bah³ kulaputt± nikkhamitv± tassa santike pabbaji½su. So mahat± isigaºena parivuto tattha vasi. Sabbepi sam±pattil±bhinoyeva. R±j±pi pitara½ m±retv± appamattaka½yeva k±la½ rajjasukha½ anubhavitv± tato paµµh±ya bh²to cittass±da½ alabhanto niraye kammakaraºappatto viya ahosi. So bodhisatta½ anussaritv± “sah±yo me ‘pitugh±takamma½ bh±riya½, m± kar²’ti paµisedhetv± ma½ attano katha½ g±h±petu½ asakkonto att±na½ niddosa½ katv± pal±yi. Sace so idha abhavissa na me pitugh±takamma½ k±tu½ adassa, idampi me bhaya½ hareyya, kaha½ nu kho so etarahi viharati. Sace tassa vasanaµµh±na½ j±neyya½, pakkos±peyya½, ko nu kho me tassa vasanaµµh±na½ ±roceyy±”ti cintesi. So tato paµµh±ya antepure ca r±jasabh±yañca bodhisattasseva vaººa½ bh±sati. Eva½ addh±ne gate bodhisatto “r±j± ma½ sarati, may± tattha gantv± tassa dhamma½ desetv± ta½ nibbhaya½ katv± ±gantu½ vaµµat²”ti paºº±sa vass±ni himavante vasitv± pañcasatat±pasaparivuto ±k±sen±gantv± d±yapasse n±ma uyy±ne otaritv± isigaºaparivuto sil±paµµe nis²di. Uyy±nap±lo ta½ disv± “bhante, gaºasatth± kon±mo”ti pucchitv± “sa½kiccapaº¹ito n±m±”ti ca sutv± sayampi sañj±nitv± “bhante, y±v±ha½ r±j±na½ ±nemi, t±va idheva hotha, amh±ka½ r±j± tumhe daµµhuk±mo”ti vatv± vegena r±jakula½ gantv± tassa ±gatabh±va½ rañño ±rocesi. Tattha disv±ti, bhikkhave, so uyy±nap±lo r±j±na½ r±jasabh±ya½ nisinna½ disv± athassa paµivedesi, “yass±s²”ti vadanto ±roces²ti attho. Yass±s²ti, mah±r±ja, yassa tva½ anukampako muducitto ahosi, yassa abhiºha½ vaººa½ payirud±h±si, so aya½ sa½kicco is²na½ antare s±dhu laddhakoti sammato anuppatto tava uyy±ne sil±paµµe isigaºaparivuto kañcanapaµim± viya nisinno. Taram±nar³poti, mah±r±ja, pabbajit± n±ma kule v± gaºe v± alagg± tumh±ka½ gacchant±naññeva pakkameyyu½, tasm± taram±nar³po khippa½ niyy±hi, mahant±na½ s²l±diguº±na½ esitatt± passa mahesina½. Tatoti, bhikkhave, so r±j± tassa vacana½ sutv± tato tassa vacanato anantarameva. Nikkhipp±ti nikkhipitv± tassa kira uyy±nadv±ra½ patv±va etadahosi– “pabbajit± n±ma garuµµh±niy±, sa½kiccat±pasassa santika½ uddhatavesena gantu½ ayuttan”ti. So maºicittasuvaººadaº¹a½ v±lab²jani½, kañcanamaya½ uºh²sapaµµa½, suparikkhitta½ maªgalakhagga½, setacchatta½ sovaººap±duk±ti im±ni pañca r±jakakudhabhaº¹±ni apanesi. Tena vutta½ “nikkhipp±”ti. Paµicchadanti tameva r±jakakudhabhaº¹a½ µhapayitv± bhaº¹±g±rikassa hatthe datv±. D±yapassasminti eva½n±make uyy±ne. Atha k±la½ amaññath±ti atha so id±ni me pañha½ pucchitu½ k±loti j±ni. P±¼iya½ pana “yath±k±lan”ti ±gata½, tassa k±l±nur³pena pañhapucchana½ amaññath±ti attho. Paµipajjath±ti paµipajji. Pecc±ti paµigantv±, paralokassa v± n±meta½, tasm± paraloketi attho. May±ti, bhante, may± sucaritadhammo aticiººo pitugh±takamma½ kata½, ta½ me akkh±hi, ka½ gati½ pitugh±tak± gacchanti, katarasmi½ niraye paccant²ti pucchati. Ta½ sutv± bodhisatto “tena hi, mah±r±ja, suºoh²”ti vatv± ov±da½ t±va ad±si. Satth± tamattha½ pak±sento ±ha–

tassa ce vacana½ kayir±, na so gaccheyya duggatin”ti.
Tattha uppathen±ti corehi pariyuµµhitamaggena. Maggamanus±sat²ti khemamagga½ akkh±ti. N±ssa maggeyya kaºµakoti tassa ov±dakarassa purisassa mukha½ corakaºµako na passeyya. Yo dhammanti yo sucaritadhamma½. Na soti so puriso niray±dibheda½ duggati½ na gaccheyya. Uppathasadiso hi, mah±r±ja, adhammo, khemamaggasadiso sucaritadhammo, tva½ pana pubbe “pitara½ gh±tetv± r±j± hom²”ti mayha½ kathetv± may± paµib±hito mama vacana½ akatv± pitara½ gh±tetv± id±ni socasi, paº¹it±na½ ov±da½ akaronto n±ma coramaggapaµipanno viya mah±byasana½ p±puº±t²ti.
