Tad± hi bhagav± dhammasabh±ya½ nekkhammap±rami½ vaººayant±na½ bhikkh³na½ majjhe nis²ditv± “na, bhikkhave, id±neva, pubbepi tath±gato mah±bhinikkhamana½ nikkhantoyev±”ti vatv± at²ta½ ±hari. At²te r±jagahe magadhar±j± n±ma rajja½ k±resi. Bodhisatto tassa aggamahesiy± kucchismi½ nibbatti, n±maggahaºadivase cassa “arindamakum±ro”ti n±ma½ kari½su. Tassa j±tadivaseyeva purohitassapi putto j±yi, “soºakakum±ro”tissa n±ma½ kari½su. Te ubhopi ekatova va¹¹hitv± vayappatt± uttamar³padhar± r³pena nibbises± hutv± takkasila½ gantv± uggahitasipp± tato nikkhamitv± “sabbasamayasippañca desac±rittañca j±niss±m±”ti anupubbena c±rika½ carant± b±r±ºasi½ patv± r±juyy±ne vasitv± punadivase nagara½ pavisi½su. Ta½ divasañca ekacce manuss± “br±hmaºav±canaka½ kariss±m±”ti p±y±sa½ paµiy±detv± ±san±ni paññ±petv± ±gacchante te kum±re disv± ghara½ pavesetv± paññatt±sane nis²d±pesu½. Tattha bodhisattassa paññatt±sane suddhavattha½ atthata½ ahosi, soºakassa rattakambala½. So ta½ nimitta½ disv±va “ajja me piyasah±yo arindamakum±ro b±r±ºasir±j± bhavissati, mayha½ pana sen±patiµµh±na½ dassat²”ti aññ±si. Te ubhopi katabhattakicc± uyy±nameva agama½su. Tad± b±r±ºasirañño k±lakatassa sattamo divaso hoti, aputtaka½ r±jakula½. Amacc±dayo p±tova sas²sa½ nh±t± sannipatitv± “rajj±rahassa santika½ gamissat²”ti phussaratha½ yojetv± vissajjesu½. So nagar± nikkhamitv± anupubbena r±juyy±na½ gantv± uyy±nadv±re nivattitv± ±rohaºasajjo hutv± aµµh±si. Bodhisatto maªgalasil±paµµesas²sa½ p±rupitv± nipajji, soºakakum±ro tassa santike nis²di. So t³riyasadda½ sutv± “arindamassa phussaratho ±gacchati, ajjesa r±j± hutv± mama sen±patiµµh±na½ dassati, na kho pana mayha½ issariyenattho, etasmi½ gate nikkhamitv± pabbajiss±m²”ti cintetv± ekamante paµicchanne aµµh±si. Purohito uyy±na½ pavisitv± mah±satta½ nipannaka½ disv± t³riy±ni paggaºh±pesi. Mah±satto pabujjhitv± parivattitv± thoka½ nipajjitv± uµµh±ya sil±paµµe pallaªkena nis²di. Atha na½ purohito añjali½ paggaºhitv± ±ha– “rajja½ te, deva, p±puº±t²”ti. “Ki½ aputtaka½ r±jakulan”ti? “Eva½, dev±”ti. “Tena hi s±dh³”ti. Atha na½ te tattheva abhisiñcitv± ratha½ ±ropetv± mahantena pariv±rena nagara½ pavesesu½. So nagara½ padakkhiºa½ katv± p±s±da½ abhir³hi. So yasamahantat±ya soºakakum±ra½ na sari. Sopi tasmi½ nagara½ paviµµhe pacch± ±gantv± sil±paµµe nis²di. Athassa purato bandhan± pavutta½ s±larukkhato paº¹upal±sa½ pati. So ta½ disv±va “yatheveta½, tath± mamapi sar²ra½ jara½ patv± patissat²”ti anicc±divasena vipassana½ paµµhapetv± paccekabodhi½ p±puºi. Ta½khaºaññevassa gihiliªga½ antaradh±yi, pabbajitaliªga½ p±turahosi. So “natthi d±ni punabbhavo”ti ud±na½ ud±nento nandam³lakapabbh±ra½ agam±si. Mah±sattopi catt±l²samatt±na½ sa½vacchar±na½ accayena saritv± “kaha½ nu kho me sah±yo soºako”ti soºaka½ punappuna½ sarantopi “may± suto v± diµµho v±”ti vatt±ra½ alabhitv± alaªkatamah±tale r±japallaªke nisinno gandhabban±µakanaccag²t±d²hi parivuto sampattimanubhavanto “yo me kassaci santike sutv± ‘asukaµµh±ne n±ma soºako vasat²’ti ±cikkhissati, tassa sata½ dass±mi, yo me s±ma½ disv± ±rocessati, tassa sahassan”ti eka½ ud±na½ abhisaªkharitv± g²tavasena ud±nento paµhama½ g±tham±ha–
“Kassa sutv± sata½ dammi, sahassa½ diµµha soºaka½;
ko me soºakamakkh±ti, sah±ya½ pa½suk²¼itan”ti.
Athassa mukhato luñcant² viya gahetv± ek± n±µak²tth² ta½ g±yi. Athaññ± athaññ±ti “amh±ka½ rañño piyag²tan”ti sabb± orodh± g±yi½su. Anukkamena nagarav±sinopi j±napad±pi tameva g²ta½ g±yi½su. R±j±pi punappuna½ tameva g²ta½ g±yati. Paºº±samatt±na½ sa½vacchar±na½ accayena panassa bah³ puttadh²taro ahesu½, jeµµhaputto d²gh±vukum±ro n±ma ahosi. Tad± soºakapaccekabuddho “arindamar±j± ma½ daµµhuk±mo, aha½ tattha gantv± k±mesu ±d²nava½ nekkhamme c±nisa½sa½ kathetv± pabbajjan±k±ra½ karom²”ti cintetv± iddhiy± ±k±sen±gantv± uyy±ne nis²di. Tad± eko sattavassiko pañcac³¼akakum±rako m±tar± pahito gantv± uyy±navane d±r³ni uddharanto punappuna½ tameva g²ta½ g±yi. Atha na½ so pakkositv± “kum±raka, tva½ añña½ ag±yitv± ekameva g²ta½ g±yasi, ki½ añña½ na j±n±s²”ti pucchi. “J±n±mi, bhante, amh±ka½ pana rañño idameva piya½, tena na½ punnappuna½ g±y±m²”ti. “Etassa pana te g²tassa paµig²ta½ g±yanto koci diµµhapubbo”ti. “Na diµµhapubbo, bhante”ti. “Aha½ ta½ sikkh±pess±mi, sakkhissasi rañño santika½ gantv± paµig²ta½ g±yitun”ti. “¾ma, bhante”ti. Athassa so paµig²ta½ ±cikkhanto “mayha½ sutv±”ti-±dim±ha. Uggaºh±petv± ca pana ta½ uyyojesi– “gaccha, kum±raka, ima½ paµig²ta½ raññ± saddhi½ g±y±hi, r±j± te mahanta½ issariya½ dassati, ki½ te d±r³hi, vegena y±h²”ti. So “s±dh³”ti ta½ paµig²ta½ uggaºhitv± vanditv±, “bhante, y±v±ha½ r±j±na½ ±nemi, t±va idheva hoth±”ti vatv± vegena m±tu santika½ gantv±, “amma, khippa½ ma½ nh±petv± alaªkarotha, ajja ta½ daliddabh±vato mocess±m²”ti vatv± nh±tamaº¹ito r±jadv±ra½ gantv± “ayya dov±rika, ‘eko d±rako tumhehi saddhi½ paµig²ta½ g±yiss±m²ti ±gantv± dv±re µhito’ti rañño aroceh²”ti ±ha. So vegena gantv± rañño ±rocesi. R±j± “±gacchat³”ti pakkos±petv±, “t±ta, tva½ may± saddhi½ paµig²ta½ g±yissas²”ti ±ha. “¾ma, dev±”ti. “Tena hi g±yass³”ti. “Deva, imasmi½ µh±ne na g±y±mi, nagare pana bheri½ car±petv± mah±jana½ sannip±t±petha, mah±janamajjhe g±yiss±m²”ti. R±j± tath± k±retv± alaªkatamaº¹ape pallaªkamajjhe nis²ditv± tass±nur³pa½ ±sana½ d±petv± “id±ni tava g²ta½ g±yass³”ti ±ha. “Deva, tumhe t±va g±yatha, ath±ha½ paµig²ta½ g±yiss±m²”ti. Tattha sutv±ti “asukaµµh±ne n±ma te piyasah±yo soºako vasat²”ti tassa vasanaµµh±na½ sutv± ±rocentassa kassa sata½ dammi. Diµµh±ti “asukaµµh±ne n±ma may± diµµho”ti disv± ±rocentassa kassa sahassa½ damm²ti. Eva½ raññ± paµhama½ ud±nag±th±ya g²t±ya pañcac³¼akad±rakena paµig²tabh±va½ pak±sento satth± abhisambuddho hutv± d²ya¹¹hag±th± abh±si–
2. “Athabrav² m±ºavako, daharo pañcac³¼ako;
mayha½ sutv± sata½ dehi, sahassa½ diµµha soºaka½;
aha½ te soºakakkhissa½, sah±ya½ pa½suk²¼itan”ti.
Tena vuttag±th±ya pana ayamattho– mah±r±ja, ya½ tva½ “sutv± ±rocentassa sata½ damm²”ti vadasi, tampi mameva dehi, ya½ “disv± ±rocentassa sahassa½ damm²”ti vadasi, tampi mayhameva dehi, aha½ te piyasah±ya½ id±neva paccakkhatova “aya½ soºako”ti ±cikkhissanti. Ito para½ suviññeyy± sambuddhag±th± p±¼inayeneva veditabb±–
3. “Katamasmi½ so janapade, raµµhesu nigamesu ca;
kattha soºakamaddakkhi, ta½ me akkh±hi pucchito.
4. “Taveva deva vijite, tavevuyy±nabh³miya½;
ujuva½s± mah±s±l±, n²lobh±s± manoram±.
5. “Tiµµhanti meghasam±n±, ramm± aññoññanissit±;
tesa½ m³lamhi soºako, jh±yat² anup±dano;
up±d±nesu lokesu, ¹ayham±nesu nibbuto.
6. “Tato ca r±j± p±y±si, sen±ya caturaªgiy±;
k±r±petv± sama½ magga½, agam± yena soºako.
7. “Uyy±nabh³mi½ gantv±na, vicaranto brah±vane;
±s²na½ soºaka½ dakkhi, ¹ayham±nesu nibbutan”ti.
Tattha ujuva½s±ti ujukkhandh±. Mah±s±l±ti mah±rukkh±. Meghasam±n±ti n²lameghasadis±. Ramm±ti ramaº²y±. Aññoññanissit±ti s±kh±hi s±kha½, m³lena m³la½ sa½sibbitv± µhit±. Tesanti tesa½ evar³p±na½ tava uyy±navane s±l±na½ heµµh±. Jh±yat²ti lakkhaº³panijjh±na-±rammaº³panijjh±nasaªkh±tehi jh±nehi jh±yati. Anup±danoti k±mup±d±n±divirahito. Þayham±nes³ti ek±dasahi agg²hi ¹ayham±nesu sattesu. Nibbutoti te agg² nibb±petv± s²talena hadayena jh±yam±no tava uyy±ne maªgalas±larukkham³le sil±paµµe nisinno esa te sah±yo kañcanapaµim± viya sobham±no paµim±net²ti. Tato c±ti, bhikkhave, tato so arindamo r±j± tassa vacana½ sutv±va “soºakapaccekabuddha½ passiss±m²”ti caturaªginiy± sen±ya p±y±si nikkhami. Vicarantoti ujukameva agantv± tasmi½ mahante vanasaº¹e vicaranto tassa santika½ gantv± ta½ ±s²na½ addakkhi. So ta½ avanditv± ekamanta½ nis²ditv± attano kiles±bhiratatt± ta½ “kapaºo”ti maññam±no ima½ g±tham±ha–
8. “Kapaºo vataya½ bhikkhu, muº¹o saªgh±µip±ruto;
am±tiko apitiko, rukkham³lasmi jh±yat²”ti.
Tattha jh±yat²ti nimm±tiko nippitiko k±ruññappatto jh±yati.
9. “Ima½ v±kya½ nis±metv±, soºako etadabravi;
na r±ja kapaºo hoti, dhamma½ k±yena phassaya½.
10. “Yo ca dhamma½ nira½katv±, adhammamanuvattati;
sa r±ja kapaºo hoti, p±po p±papar±yaºo”ti.
Tattha imanti tassa kiles±bhiratassa pabbajja½ arocentassa ima½ pabbajj±garahavacana½ sutv±. Etadabrav²ti pabbajj±ya guºa½ pak±sento eta½ abravi. Phassayanti phassayanto yena ariyamaggadhammo n±mak±yena phassito, so kapaºo n±ma na hot²ti dassento evam±ha. Nira½katv±ti attabh±vato n²haritv±. P±po p±papar±yaºoti saya½ p±p±na½ karaºena p±po, aññesampi karont±na½ patiµµh±bh±vena p±papar±yaºoti. Eva½ so bodhisatta½ garahi. So attano garahitabh±va½ aj±nanto viya hutv± n±magotta½ kathetv± tena saddhi½ paµisanth±ra½ karonto g±tham±ha–
11. “Arindamoti me n±ma½, k±sir±j±ti ma½ vid³;
kacci bhoto sukhasseyy±, idha pattassa soºak±”ti.
Tattha kacc²ti amh±ka½ t±va na kiñci aph±suka½, bhoto pana kacci idha pattassa imasmi½ uyy±ne vasato sukhavih±roti pucchati. Atha na½ paccekabuddho, “mah±r±ja, na kevala½ idha, aññatr±pi vasantassa me asukha½ n±ma natth²”ti vatv± tassa samaºabhadrag±th±yo n±ma ±rabhi–
