Tassa kosambiya½ vuµµhavassassa upaµµh±ko tic²varañceva sappiph±ºitañca ±haritv± p±dam³le µhapesi. Atha na½ thero ±ha– “ki½ ida½ up±sak±”ti. “Nanu may±, bhante, tumhe vassa½ v±sit±, amh±kañca vih±re vuµµhavass± ima½ l±bha½ labhanti, gaºhatha, bhante”ti. “Hotu, up±saka, na mayha½ imin± attho”ti. “Ki½ k±raº±, bhante”ti? “Mama santike kappiyak±rako s±maºeropi natthi, ±vuso”ti. “Sace, bhante, kappiyak±rako natthi, mama putto ayyassa santike s±maºero bhavissat²”ti. Atha na½ upaµµh±navel±ya½ ±gantv± nisinna½ thero pucchi– “s±maºera, attano vasanaµµh±na½ paµijaggitan”ti? “Bhante, paµijaggitu½ ok±sa½ n±latthan”ti. “Tena hi mama vasanaµµh±neyeva vasa, dukkha½ te ±gantukaµµh±ne bahi vasitun”ti ta½ gahetv±va sen±sana½ p±visi. Thero pana puthujjano nipannamattova nidda½ okkami. S±maºero cintesi– “ajja me upajjh±yena saddhi½ tatiyo divaso ekasen±sane vasantassa, ‘sace nipajjitv± nidd±yiss±mi, thero sahaseyya½ ±pajjeyy±’ti nisinnakova v²tin±mess±m²”ti upajjh±yassa mañcakasam²pe pallaªka½ ±bhujitv± nisinnakova ratti½ v²tin±mesi. Thero pacc³sak±le paccuµµh±ya “s±maºera½ nikkham±petu½ vaµµat²”ti mañcakapasse µhapitab²jani½ gahetv± b²janipattassa aggena s±maºerassa kaµas±raka½ paharitv± b²jani½ uddha½ ukkhipanto “s±maºera, bahi nikkham±”ti ±ha, b²janipattadaº¹ako akkhimhi paµihaññi, t±vadeva akkhi bhijji. So “ki½, bhante”ti vatv± uµµh±ya “bahi nikkham±”ti vutte “akkhi me, bhante, bhinnan”ti avatv± ekena hatthena paµicch±detv± nikkhami. Vattakaraºak±le ca pana “akkhi me bhinnan”ti tuºh² anis²ditv± ekena hatthena akkhi½ gahetv± ekena hatthena muµµhisammuñjani½ ±d±ya vaccakuµiñca mukhadhovanaµµh±nañca sammajjitv± mukhadhovanodakañca µhapetv± pariveºa½ sammajji. So upajjh±yassa dantakaµµha½ dadam±no ekeneva hatthena ad±si. Atha na½ upajjh±yo ±ha– “asikkhito vat±ya½ s±maºero, ±cariyupajjh±y±na½ ekena hatthena dantakaµµha½ d±tu½ na vaµµat²”ti. J±n±maha½, bhante, “na eva½ vaµµat²”ti, eko pana me hattho na tucchoti. “Ki½ s±maºer±”ti? So ±dito paµµh±ya ta½ pavatti½ ±rocesi. Thero sutv±va sa½viggam±naso “aho vata may± bh±riya½ kamma½ katan”ti vatv± “kham±hi me, sappurisa, n±hameta½ j±n±mi, avassayo me hoh²”ti añjali½ paggayha sattavassikad±rakassa p±dam³le ukkuµika½ nis²di. Atha na½ s±maºero ±ha– “n±ha½, bhante, etadatth±ya kathesi½, tumh±ka½ citta½ anurakkhantena may± eva½ vutta½ nevettha tumh±ka½ doso atthi, na mayha½. Vaµµasseveso doso, m± cintayittha, may± tumh±ka½ vippaµis±ra½ rakkhanteneva n±rocitan”ti. Thero s±maºerena ass±siyam±nopi anass±sitv± uppannasa½vego s±maºerassa bhaº¹aka½ gahetv± satthu santika½ p±y±si. Satth±pissa ±gamana½ olokentova nis²di. So gantv± satth±ra½ vanditv± satth±r± saddhi½ paµisammodana½ katv± “khaman²ya½ te bhikkhu, kiñci atireka½ aph±suka½ atth²”ti pucchito ±ha– “khaman²ya½, bhante, natthi me kiñci atireka½ aph±suka½, apica kho pana me aya½ daharas±maºero viya añño atirekaguºo na diµµhapubbo”ti. “Ki½ pana imin± kata½ bhikkh³”ti. So ±dito paµµh±ya sabba½ ta½ pavatti½ bhagavato ±rocento ±ha– “eva½, bhante, may± kham±piyam±no ma½ eva½ vadesi ‘nevettha tumh±ka½ doso atthi, na mayha½. Vaµµasseveso doso, tumhe m± cintayitth±’ti, iti ma½ ass±sesiyeva, mayi neva kopa½, na dosamak±si, na me, bhante, evar³po guºasampanno diµµhapubbo”ti. Atha na½ satth± “bhikkhu kh²º±sav± n±ma na kassaci kuppanti, na dussanti, santindriy± santam±nas±va hont²”ti vatv± anusandhi½ ghaµetv± dhamma½ desento ima½ g±tham±ha– 96. “Santa½ tassa mana½ hoti, sant± v±c± ca kamma ca;
sammadaññ± vimuttassa, upasantassa t±dino”ti.
Tattha santa½ tass±ti tassa kh²º±savas±maºerassa abhijjh±d²na½ abh±vena mana½ santameva hoti upasanta½ nibbuta½ Tath± mus±v±d±d²na½ abh±vena v±c± ca p±º±tip±t±d²na½ abh±vena k±yakammañca santameva hoti. Sammadaññ± vimuttass±ti nayena hetun± j±nitv± pañcahi vimutt²hi vimuttassa. Upasantass±ti abbhantare r±g±d²na½ upasamena upasantassa. T±dinoti tath±r³passa guºasampannass±ti. Desan±vas±ne kosambiv±s²tissatthero saha paµisambhid±hi arahatta½ p±puºi. Sesamah±janass±pi s±tthik± dhammadesan± ahos²ti.
