S±vatthiv±sino hi dve kulaputt± sah±yak± vih±ra½ gantv± satthu dhammadesana½ sutv± k±me pah±ya s±sane ura½ datv± pabbajitv± pañca vass±ni ±cariyupajjh±y±na½ santike vasitv± satth±ra½ upasaªkamitv± s±sane dhura½ pucchitv± vipassan±dhurañca ganthadhurañca vitth±rato sutv± eko t±va “aha½, bhante, mahallakak±le pabbajito na sakkhiss±mi ganthadhura½ p³retu½, vipassan±dhura½ pana p³ress±m²”ti y±va arahatt± vipassan±dhura½ kath±petv± ghaµento v±yamanto saha paµisambhid±hi arahatta½ p±puºi. Itaro pana “aha½ ganthadhura½ p³ress±m²”ti anukkamena tepiµaka½ buddhavacana½ uggaºhitv± gatagataµµh±ne dhamma½ katheti, sarabhañña½ bhaºati, pañcanna½ bhikkhusat±na½ dhamma½ v±cento vicarati. Aµµh±rasanna½ mah±gaº±na½ ±cariyo ahosi. Bhikkh³ satthu santike kammaµµh±na½ gahetv± itarassa therassa vasanaµµh±na½ gantv± tassa ov±de µhatv± arahatta½ patv± thera½ vanditv±, “satth±ra½ daµµhuk±mamh±”ti vadanti. Thero “gacchatha, ±vuso, mama vacanena satth±ra½ vanditv± as²ti mah±there vandatha, sah±yakattherampi me ‘amh±ka½ ±cariyo tumhe vandat²’ti vadath±”ti peseti. Te bhikkh³ vih±ra½ gantv± satth±rañceva as²ti mah±there ca vanditv± ganthikattherassa santika½ gantv±, “bhante, amh±ka½ ±cariyo tumhe vandat²”ti vadanti. Itarena ca “ko n±ma so”ti vutte, “tumh±ka½ sah±yakabhikkhu, bhante”ti vadanti. Eva½ there punappuna½ s±sana½ pahiºante so bhikkhu thoka½ k±la½ sahitv± aparabh±ge sahitu½ asakkonto “amh±ka½ ±cariyo tumhe vandat²”ti vutte, “ko eso”ti vatv± “tumh±ka½ sah±yakabhikkh³”ti vutte, “ki½ pana tumhehi tassa santike uggahita½, ki½ d²ghanik±y±d²su aññataro nik±yo, ki½ t²su piµakesu eka½ piµakan”ti vatv± “catuppadikampi g±tha½ na j±n±ti, pa½suk³la½ gahetv± pabbajitak±leyeva arañña½ paviµµho, bah³ vata antev±sike labhi, tassa ±gatak±le may± pañha½ pucchitu½ vaµµat²”ti cintesi. Atha aparabh±ge thero satth±ra½ daµµhu½ ±gato. Sah±yakassa therassa santike pattac²vara½ µhapetv± gantv± satth±rañceva as²ti mah±there ca vanditv± sah±yakassa vasanaµµh±na½ pacc±gami. Athassa so vatta½ k±retv± samappam±ºa½ ±sana½ gahetv±, “pañha½ pucchiss±m²”ti nis²di. Tasmi½ khaºe satth± “esa evar³pa½ mama putta½ viheµhetv± niraye nibbatteyy±”ti tasmi½ anukamp±ya vih±rac±rika½ caranto viya tesa½ nisinnaµµh±na½ gantv± paññattavarabuddh±sane nis²di. Tattha tattha nis²dant± hi bhikkh³ buddh±sana½ paññ±petv±va nis²danti. Tena satth± pakatipaññatteyeva ±sane nis²di. Nisajja kho pana ganthikabhikkhu½ paµhamajjh±ne pañha½ pucchitv± tasmi½ akathite dutiyajjh±na½ ±di½ katv± aµµhasupi sam±patt²su r³p±r³pesu ca pañha½ pucchi. Ganthikatthero ekampi kathetu½ n±sakkhi. Itaro ta½ sabba½ kathesi. Atha na½ sot±pattimagge pañha½ pucchi. Ganthikatthero kathetu½ n±sakkhi. Tato kh²º±savatthera½ pucchi. Thero kathesi. Satth± “s±dhu s±dhu, bhikkh³”ti abhinanditv± sesamaggesupi paµip±µiy± pañha½ pucchi. Ganthiko ekampi kathetu½ n±sakkhi, kh²º±savo pucchita½ pucchita½ kathesi. Satth± cat³supi µh±nesu tassa s±dhuk±ra½ ad±si. Ta½ sutv± bhummadeve ±di½ katv± y±va brahmalok± sabb± devat± ceva n±gasupaºº± ca s±dhuk±ra½ ada½su. Ta½ s±dhuk±ra½ sutv± tassa antev±sik± ceva saddhivih±rino ca satth±ra½ ujjh±yi½su– “ki½ n±meta½ satth±r± kata½, kiñci aj±nantassa mahallakattherassa cat³su µh±nesu s±dhuk±ra½ ad±si, amh±ka½ pan±cariyassa sabbapariyattidharassa pañcanna½ bhikkhusat±na½ p±mokkhassa pasa½s±mattampi na kar²”ti. Atha ne satth± “ki½ n±meta½, bhikkhave, katheth±”ti pucchitv± tasmi½ atthe ±rocite, “bhikkhave, tumh±ka½ ±cariyo mama s±sane bhatiy± g±vo rakkhaºasadiso, mayha½ pana putto yath±ruciy± pañca gorase paribhuñjanakas±misadiso”ti vatv± im± g±th± abh±si– 19. “Bahumpi ce sa½hita bh±sam±no,
na takkaro hoti naro pamatto;
gopova g±vo gaºaya½ paresa½,
na bh±gav± s±maññassa hoti.
20. “Appampi ce sa½hita bh±sam±no,
dhammassa hoti anudhammac±r²;
r±gañca dosañca pah±ya moha½,
sammappaj±no suvimuttacitto;
“anup±diy±no idha v± hura½ v±,
sa bh±gav± s±maññassa hot²”ti.
Tattha sa½hitanti tepiµakassa buddhavacanasseta½ n±ma½. Ta½ ±cariye upasaªkamitv± uggaºhitv± bahumpi paresa½ bh±sam±no v±cento ta½ dhamma½ sutv± ya½ k±rakena puggalena kattabba½, takkaro na hoti. Kukkuµassa pakkhapaharaºamattampi anicc±divasena yonisomanasik±ra½ nappavatteti. Eso yath± n±ma divasa½ bhatiy± g±vo rakkhanto gopo p±tova niravasesa½ sampaµicchitv± s±ya½ gahetv± s±mik±na½ niyy±detv± divasabhatimatta½ gaºh±ti, yath±ruciy± pana pañca gorase paribhuñjitu½ na labhati, evameva kevala½ antev±sik±na½ santik± vattapaµivattakaraºamattassa bh±g² hoti, s±maññassa pana bh±g² na hoti. Yath± pana gop±lakena niyy±dit±na½ gunna½ gorasa½ s±mik±va paribhuñjanti, tath± tena kathita½ dhamma½ sutv± k±rakapuggal± yath±nusiµµha½ paµipajjitv± keci paµhamajjh±n±d²ni p±puºanti, keci vipassana½ va¹¹hetv± maggaphal±ni p±puºanti, goºas±mik± gorasasseva s±maññassa bh±gino honti. Iti satth± s²lasampannassa bahussutassa pam±davih±rino anicc±divasena yonisomanasik±re pamattassa bhikkhuno vasena paµhama½ g±tha½ kathesi, na duss²lassa. Dutiyag±th± pana appassutassapi yonisomanasik±re kamma½ karontassa k±rakapuggalassa vasena kathit±. Tattha appamp² ceti thoka½ ekavaggadvivaggamattampi. Dhammassa hoti anudhammac±r²ti atthamaññ±ya dhammamaññ±ya navalokuttaradhammassa anur³pa½ dhamma½ pubbabh±gapaµipad±saªkh±ta½ catup±risuddhis²ladhutaªga-asubhakammaµµh±n±dibheda½ caranto anudhammac±r² hoti. So “ajja ajjev±”ti paµivedha½ ±kaªkhanto vicarati. So im±ya samm±paµipattiy± r±gañca dosañca pah±ya moha½ samm± hetun± nayena parij±nitabbe dhamme parij±nanto tadaªgavikkhambhanasamucchedapaµippassaddhinissaraºavimutt²na½ vasena suvimuttacitto, anup±diy±no idha v± hura½ v±ti idhalokaparalokapariy±pann± v± ajjhattikab±hir± v± khandh±yatanadh±tuyo cat³hi up±d±nehi anup±diyanto mah±kh²º±savo maggasaªkh±tassa s±maññassa vasena ±gatassa phalas±maññassa ceva pañca-asekkhadhammakkhandhassa ca bh±gav± hot²ti ratanak³µena viya ag±rassa arahattena desan±ya k³µa½ gaºh²ti.
