Atha kho sambahul± man±pak±yik± devat± yen±yasm± anuruddho tenupasaªkami½su; upasaªkamitv± ±yasmanta½ anuruddha½ abhiv±detv± ekamanta½ aµµha½su. Ekamanta½ µhit± kho t± devat± ±yasmanta½ anuruddha½ etadavocu½– “maya½, bhante anuruddha, man±pak±yik± n±ma devat± t²su µh±nesu issariya½ k±rema vasa½ vattema. Maya½, bhante anuruddha, y±disaka½ vaººa½ ±kaªkh±ma t±disaka½ vaººa½ µh±naso paµilabh±ma; y±disaka½ sara½ ±kaªkh±ma t±disaka½ sara½ µh±naso paµilabh±ma; y±disaka½ sukha½ ±kaªkh±ma t±disaka½ sukha½ µh±naso paµilabh±ma. Atha khv±ha½, bhante, indriy±ni okkhipi½. “Atha kho, bhante, t± devat± ‘na khvayyo anuruddho s±diyat²’ti tatthevantaradh±yi½su. Katihi nu kho, bhante, dhammehi samann±gato m±tug±mo k±yassa bhed± para½ maraº± man±pak±yik±na½ dev±na½ sahabyata½ upapajjat²”ti? “Aµµhahi kho, anuruddha, dhammehi samann±gato m±tug±mo k±yassa bhed± para½ maraº± man±pak±yik±na½ dev±na½ sahabyata½ upapajjati. Katamehi aµµhahi? Idha, anuruddha, m±tug±mo yassa m±t±pitaro bhattuno denti atthak±m± hitesino anukampak± anukampa½ up±d±ya tassa hoti pubbuµµh±yin² pacch±nip±tin² kiªk±rapaµiss±vin² man±pac±rin² piyav±din². “Ye te bhattu garuno [guruno (ka.)] honti– m±t±ti v± pit±ti v± samaºabr±hmaº±ti v±– te sakkaroti, garu½ karoti [garukaroti (s². sy±. p².)], m±neti, p³jeti, abbh±gate ca ±sanodakena paµip³jeti. “Ye te bhattu abbhantar± kammant±– uºº±ti v± kapp±s±ti v±– tattha dakkh± hoti analas± tatrup±y±ya [tatr³p±y±ya (s².), a. ni. 4.35; 11.14] v²ma½s±ya samann±gat± ala½ k±tu½ ala½ sa½vidh±tu½. “Yo so bhattu abbhantaro antojano d±s±ti v± pess±ti v± kammakar±ti v±– tesa½ katañca katato j±n±ti akatañca akatato j±n±ti, gil±nak±nañca bal±bala½ j±n±ti kh±dan²ya½ bhojan²yañcassa pacca½sena [paccayena (sy±.), paccatta½sena (ka.) a. ni. 5.33] sa½vibhajati. “Ya½ bhattu ±harati dhana½ v± dhañña½ v± j±tar³pa½ v± ta½ ±rakkhena guttiy± samp±deti, tattha ca hoti adhutt² athen² asoº¹² avin±sik±. “Up±sik± kho pana hoti buddha½ saraºa½ gat± dhamma½ saraºa½ gat± saªgha½ saraºa½ gat±. “S²lavat² kho pana hoti– p±º±tip±t± paµivirat±, adinn±d±n± paµivirat±, k±mesumicch±c±r± paµivirat±, mus±v±d± paµivirat±, sur±merayamajjapam±daµµh±n± paµivirat±. “C±gavat² kho pana hoti. Vigatamalamaccherena cetas± ag±ra½ ajjh±vasati muttac±g± [muttac±g² (sy±.)] payatap±ºin² [payatap±ºi (s².), payatap±º² (sy±. p². ka.)] vossaggarat± y±cayog± d±nasa½vibh±garat±. “Imehi kho, anuruddha, aµµhahi dhammehi samann±gato m±tug±mo k±yassa bhed± para½ maraº± man±pak±yik±na½ dev±na½ sahabyata½ upapajjat²”ti.
“Yo na½ bharati sabbad±, nicca½ ±t±pi ussuko;
ta½ sabbak±mada½ [ta½ sabbak±mahara½ (s². sy±. p².) sabbak±mahara½ (a. ni. 5.33] posa½, bhatt±ra½ n±timaññati.
“Na c±pi sotthi bhatt±ra½, iss±v±dena rosaye;
bhattu ca garuno sabbe, paµip³jeti paº¹it±.
“Uµµh±hik± [uµµh±yik± (ka.)] analas±, saªgahitaparijjan±;
bhattu man±pa½ carati, sambhata½ anurakkhati.
“Y± eva½ vattati n±r², bhattu chandavas±nug±;
man±p± n±ma te [man±pak±yik± (s². ka.)] dev±, yattha s± upapajjat²”ti. Chaµµha½.
