363. Eka½ samaya½ bhagav± mallesu viharati uruvelakappa½ n±ma mall±na½ nigamo. Atha kho bhadrako g±maºi yena bhagav± tenupasaªkami; upasaªkamitv± bhagavanta½ abhiv±detv± ekamanta½ nis²di. Ekamanta½ nisinno kho bhadrako g±maºi bhagavanta½ etadavoca– “s±dhu me, bhante, bhagav± dukkhassa samudayañca atthaªgamañca deset³”ti. “Ahañce [ahañca (sy±. ka½. ka.)] te, g±maºi, at²tamaddh±na½ ±rabbha dukkhassa samudayañca atthaªgamañca deseyya½– ‘eva½ ahosi at²tamaddh±nan’ti, tatra te siy± kaªkh±, siy± vimati. Aha½ ce [ahañca (sy±. ka½. ka.)] te, g±maºi, an±gatamaddh±na½ ±rabbha dukkhassa samudayañca atthaªgamañca deseyya½– ‘eva½ bhavissati an±gatamaddh±nan’ti, tatr±pi te siy± kaªkh±, siy± vimati. Api c±ha½, g±maºi, idheva nisinno ettheva te nisinnassa dukkhassa samudayañca atthaªgamañca desess±mi. Ta½ suº±hi s±dhuka½ manasi karohi; bh±siss±m²”ti. “Eva½, bhante”ti kho bhadrako g±maºi bhagavato paccassosi. Bhagav± etadavoca–
“Ta½ ki½ maññasi, g±maºi, atthi te uruvelakappe manuss± yesa½ te vadhena v± bandhena v± j±niy± v± garah±ya v± uppajjeyyu½ sokaparidevadukkhadomanassup±y±s±”ti? “Atthi me, bhante, uruvelakappe manuss± yesa½ me vadhena v± bandhena v± j±niy± v± garah±ya v± uppajjeyyu½ sokaparidevadukkhadomanassup±y±s±”ti. “Atthi pana te, g±maºi, uruvelakappe manuss± yesa½ te vadhena v± bandhena v± j±niy± v± garah±ya v± nuppajjeyyu½ sokaparidevadukkhadomanassup±y±s±”ti? “Atthi me, bhante, uruvelakappe manuss± yesa½ me vadhena v± bandhena v± j±niy± v± garah±ya v± nuppajjeyyu½ sokaparidevadukkhadomanassup±y±s±”ti. “Ko nu kho, g±maºi, hetu, ko paccayo yena te ekacc±na½ uruvelakappiy±na½ manuss±na½ vadhena v± bandhena v± j±niy± v± garah±ya v± uppajjeyyu½ sokaparidevadukkhadomanassup±y±s±”ti? “Yesa½ me, bhante, uruvelakappiy±na½ manuss±na½ vadhena v± bandhena v± j±niy± v± garah±ya v± uppajjeyyu½ sokaparidevadukkhadomanassup±y±s±, atthi me tesu chandar±go Yesa½ pana, bhante, uruvelakappiy±na½ manuss±na½ vadhena v± bandhena v± j±niy± v± garah±ya v± nuppajjeyyu½ sokaparidevadukkhadomanassup±y±s±, natthi me tesu chandar±go”ti. “Imin± tva½, g±maºi, dhammena diµµhena viditena ak±likena pattena pariyog±¼hena at²t±n±gate naya½ nehi– ‘ya½ kho kiñci at²tamaddh±na½ dukkha½ uppajjam±na½ uppajji [uppajjati (sabbattha)] sabba½ ta½ chandam³laka½ chandanid±na½. Chando hi m³la½ dukkhassa. Yampi hi kiñci an±gatamaddh±na½ dukkha½ uppajjam±na½ uppajjissati, sabba½ ta½ chandam³laka½ chandanid±na½. Chando hi m³la½ dukkhass±”’ti “Acchariya½, bhante, abbhuta½, bhante! Y±va subh±sita½ cida½ [subh±sitamida½ (s². p².)], bhante, bhagavat± [yaªkiñci at²tamaddh±na½ dukkha½ uppajjam±na½ uppajjati, sabbanta½ chandam³laka½ chandanid±na½, chando hi m³la½ dukkhass±ti, yaªkiñci an±gatamaddh±na½ dukkha½ uppajjam±na½ uppajjissati sabbanta½ chandam³laka½ chandanid±na½, chando hi m³la½ dukkhass±”ti (sy±. ka½.)]– ‘ya½ kiñci dukkha½ uppajjam±na½ uppajjati, sabba½ ta½ chandam³laka½ chandanid±na½. Chando hi m³la½ dukkhass±’ti. [“Yaªkiñci at²tamaddh±na½ dukkha½ uppajjam±na½ uppajjati, sabbanta½ chandam³laka½ chandanid±na½, chando hi m³la½ d³kkhass±ti, yaªkiñci an±gatamaddh±na½ dukkha½ uppajjam±na½ uppajjissati, sabbanta½ chandam³laka½ chandanid±na½, chando hi m³la½ dukkhass±”ti (sy±. ka½)] atthi me, bhante, cirav±s² n±ma kum±ro bahi ±vasathe [±vesane (?)] Paµivasati. So khv±ha½, bhante, k±lasseva vuµµh±ya purisa½ uyyojemi [uyyojesi½ (ka.)]– ‘gaccha, bhaºe, cirav±si½ kum±ra½ j±n±h²’ti. Y±vak²vañca, bhante, so puriso n±gacchati, tassa me hoteva aññathatta½– ‘m± heva cirav±sissa kum±rassa kiñci ±b±dhayitth±”’ti [±b±dhayeth±ti (sy±. ka½. p². ka.)].
“Ta½ ki½ maññasi, g±maºi, cirav±sissa kum±rassa vadhena v± bandhena v± j±niy± v± garah±ya v± uppajjeyyu½ sokaparidevadukkhadomanassup±y±s±”ti “Cirav±sissa me, bhante, kum±rassa vadhena v± bandhena v± j±niy± v± garah±ya v± j²vitassapi siy± aññathatta½, ki½ pana me nuppajjissanti sokaparidevadukkhadomanassup±y±s±”ti. “Imin±pi kho eta½, g±maºi, pariy±yena veditabba½– ‘ya½ kiñci dukkha½ uppajjam±na½ uppajjati, sabba½ ta½ chandam³laka½ chandanid±na½. Chando hi m³la½ dukkhass±”’ti.
“Ta½ ki½ maññasi, g±maºi, yad± te cirav±sim±t± [cirav±sissa m±t± (s². p².)] adiµµh± ahosi, assut± ahosi, te cirav±sim±tuy± chando v± r±go v± pema½ v±”ti? “No heta½, bhante”. “Dassana½ v± te, g±maºi, ±gamma savana½ v± eva½ te ahosi– ‘cirav±sim±tuy± chando v± r±go v± pema½ v±”’ti? “Eva½, bhante”.
“Ta½ ki½ maññasi, g±maºi, cirav±sim±tuy± te vadhena v± bandhena v± j±niy± v± garah±ya v± uppajjeyyu½ sokaparidevadukkhadomanassup±y±s±”ti? “Cirav±sim±tuy± me, bhante, vadhena v± bandhena v± j±niy± v± garah±ya v± j²vitassapi siy± aññathatta½, ki½ pana me nuppajjissanti sokaparidevadukkhadomanassup±y±s±”ti! “Imin±pi kho eta½, g±maºi, pariy±yena veditabba½– ‘ya½ kiñci dukkha½ uppajjam±na½ uppajjati, sabba½ ta½ chandam³laka½ chandanid±na½. Chando hi m³la½ dukkhass±”’ti. Ek±dasama½.
