22. Eka½ samaya½ bhagav± vajj²su viharati hatthig±me. Tatra kho bhagav± bhikkh³ ±mantesi– “aµµhahi, bhikkhave, acchariyehi abbhutehi dhammehi samann±gata½ ugga½ gahapati½ hatthig±maka½ dh±reth±”ti. Idamavoca bhagav±. Ida½ vatv±na sugato uµµh±y±san± vih±ra½ p±visi.
Atha kho aññataro bhikkhu pubbaºhasamaya½ niv±setv± pattac²varam±d±ya yena uggassa gahapatino hatthig±makassa nivesana½ tenupasaªkami; upasaªkamitv± paññatte ±sane nis²di. Atha kho uggo gahapati hatthig±mako yena so bhikkhu tenupasaªkami; upasaªkamitv± ta½ bhikkhu½ abhiv±detv± ekamanta½ nis²di. Ekamanta½ nisinna½ kho ugga½ gahapati½ hatthig±maka½ so bhikkhu etadavoca– “aµµhahi kho tva½, gahapati, acchariyehi abbhutehi dhammehi samann±gato bhagavat± by±kato. Katame te, gahapati, aµµha acchariy± abbhut± dhamm±, yehi tva½ samann±gato bhagavat± by±kato”ti?
“Na kho aha½, bhante, j±n±mi– katamehi aµµhahi acchariyehi abbhutehi dhammehi samann±gato bhagavat± by±katoti. Api ca, bhante, ye me aµµha acchariy± abbhut± dhamm± sa½vijjanti, ta½ suº±hi, s±dhuka½ manasi karohi; bh±siss±m²”ti. “Eva½, gahapat²”ti kho so bhikkhu uggassa gahapatino hatthig±makassa paccassosi. Uggo gahapati hatthig±mako etadavoca– “yad±ha½, bhante, n±gavane paricaranto bhagavanta½ paµhama½ d³ratova addasa½; saha dassaneneva me, bhante, bhagavato citta½ pas²di, sur±mado ca pah²yi. Aya½ kho me, bhante, paµhamo acchariyo abbhuto dhammo sa½vijjati.
“So kho aha½, bhante, pasannacitto bhagavanta½ payirup±si½. Tassa me bhagav± anupubbi½ katha½ kathesi, seyyathida½– d±nakatha½ s²lakatha½ saggakatha½; k±m±na½ ±d²nava½ ok±ra½ sa½kilesa½, nekkhamme ±nisa½sa½ pak±sesi. Yad± ma½ bhagav± aññ±si kallacitta½ muducitta½ vin²varaºacitta½ udaggacitta½ pasannacitta½, atha y± buddh±na½ s±mukka½sik± dhammadesan± ta½ pak±sesi– dukkha½, samudaya½, nirodha½, magga½. Seyyath±pi n±ma suddha½ vattha½ apagatak±¼aka½ sammadeva rajana½ paµiggaºheyya; evameva½ kho me tasmi½yeva ±sane viraja½ v²tamala½ dhammacakkhu½ udap±di– ‘ya½ kiñci samudayadhamma½, sabba½ ta½ nirodhadhamman’ti. So kho aha½, bhante, diµµhadhammo pattadhammo viditadhammo pariyog±¼hadhammo tiººavicikiccho vigatakatha½katho ves±rajjappatto aparappaccayo satthus±sane tattheva buddhañca dhammañca saªghañca saraºa½ agam±si½, brahmacariyapañcam±ni ca sikkh±pad±ni sam±diyi½. Aya½ kho me, bhante, dutiyo acchariyo abbhuto dhammo sa½vijjati.
“Tassa mayha½, bhante, catasso kom±riyo paj±patiyo ahesu½. Atha khv±ha½, bhante, yena t± paj±patiyo tenupasaªkami½; upasaªkamitv± t± paj±patiyo etadavaca½– ‘may± kho, bhaginiyo, brahmacariyapañcam±ni sikkh±pad±ni sam±dinn±ni. Y± icchati s± idheva bhoge ca bhuñjatu puññ±ni ca karotu, sak±ni v± ñ±tikul±ni gacchatu. Hoti v± pana puris±dhipp±yo, kassa vo damm²’ti? Eva½ vutte s±, bhante, jeµµh± paj±pati ma½ etadavoca– ‘itthann±massa ma½, ayyaputta, purisassa deh²’ti. Atha kho aha½, bhante, ta½ purisa½ pakkos±petv± v±mena hatthena paj±pati½ gahetv± dakkhiºena hatthena bhiªg±ra½ gahetv± tassa purisassa oºojesi½. Kom±ri½ kho pan±ha½, bhante, d±ra½ pariccajanto n±bhij±n±mi cittassa aññathatta½. Aya½ kho me, bhante, tatiyo acchariyo abbhuto dhammo sa½vijjati.
“Sa½vijjanti kho pana me, bhante, kule bhog±. Te ca kho appaµivibhatt± s²lavantehi kaly±ºadhammehi. Aya½ kho me, bhante, catuttho acchariyo abbhuto dhammo sa½vijjati.
“Ya½ kho pan±ha½, bhante, bhikkhu½ payirup±s±mi; sakkacca½yeva payirup±s±mi, no asakkacca½. So ce me ±yasm± dhamma½ deseti; sakkacca½yeva suºomi, no asakkacca½. No ce me so ±yasm± dhamma½ deseti, ahamassa dhamma½ desemi. Aya½ kho me, bhante, pañcamo acchariyo abbhuto dhammo sa½vijjati.
“Anacchariya½ kho pana, bhante, saªghe nimantite devat± upasaªkamitv± ±rocenti– ‘asuko, gahapati, bhikkhu ubhatobh±gavimutto asuko paññ±vimutto asuko k±yasakkh² asuko diµµhippatto [diµµhappatto (ka.)] asuko saddh±vimutto asuko dhamm±nus±r² asuko saddh±nus±r² asuko s²lav± kaly±ºadhammo asuko duss²lo p±padhammo’ti. Saªgha½ kho pan±ha½, bhante, parivisanto n±bhij±n±mi eva½ citta½ upp±dento– ‘imassa v± thoka½ demi imassa v± bahukan’ti. Atha khv±ha½, bhante, samacittova demi. Aya½ kho me, bhante, chaµµho acchariyo abbhuto dhammo sa½vijjati.
“Anacchariya½ kho pana ma½, bhante, devat± upasaªkamitv± ±rocenti– ‘sv±kkh±to, gahapati, bhagavat± dhammo’ti. Eva½ vutte aha½, bhante, t± devat± eva½ vademi– ‘vadeyy±tha v± eva½ kho tumhe devat± no v± vadeyy±tha, atha kho sv±kkh±to bhagavat± dhammo’ti. Na kho pan±ha½, bhante, abhij±n±mi tatonid±na½ cittassa unnati½– ‘ma½ t± devat± upasaªkamanti, aha½ v± devat±hi saddhi½ sallap±m²’ti. Aya½ kho me, bhante, sattamo acchariyo abbhuto dhammo sa½vijjati.
“Sace kho pan±ha½, bhante, bhagavato paµhamatara½ k±la½ kareyya½, anacchariya½ kho paneta½ ya½ ma½ bhagav± eva½ by±kareyya– ‘natthi ta½ sa½yojana½ yena sa½yutto uggo gahapati hatthig±mako puna ima½ loka½ ±gaccheyy±’ti. Aya½ kho me, bhante, aµµhamo acchariyo abbhuto dhammo sa½vijjati. Ime kho me, bhante, aµµha acchariy± abbhut± dhamm± sa½vijjanti. Na ca kho aha½ j±n±mi– katamehi c±ha½ aµµhahi acchariyehi abbhutehi dhammehi samann±gato bhagavat± by±kato”ti.
“Atha kho so bhikkhu uggassa gahapatino hatthig±makassa nivesane piº¹ap±ta½ gahetv± uµµh±y±san± pakk±mi. Atha kho so bhikkhu pacch±bhatta½ piº¹ap±tapaµikkanto yena bhagav± tenupasaªkami; upasaªkamitv± bhagavanta½ abhiv±detv± ekamanta½ nis²di. Ekamanta½ nisinno kho so bhikkhu y±vatako ahosi uggena gahapatin± hatthig±makena saddhi½ kath±sall±po, ta½ sabba½ bhagavato ±rocesi.
“S±dhu s±dhu, bhikkhu! Yath± ta½ uggo gahapati hatthig±mako samm± by±karam±no by±kareyya, imeheva kho bhikkhu, aµµhahi acchariyehi abbhutehi dhammehi samann±gato uggo gahapati hatthig±mako may± by±kato. Imehi ca pana, bhikkhu, aµµhahi acchariyehi abbhutehi dhammehi samann±gata½ ugga½ gahapati½ hatthig±maka½ dh±reh²”ti. Dutiya½.
