¾cariyabuddhaghoso dasame buddhavassasatake (901-1000-bu-va) dakkhiºa-indiyaraµµhe moraº¹ag±me br±hmaºakule j±to, so t²su vedesu ceva sabbavijj±sippaganthesu ca p±raªgato hutv± buddhas±sanadhamma½ sutv± tampi uggaºhituk±mo tasmi½yeva dakkhiºa-indiyaraµµhe ekasmi½ therav±dikavih±re mah±vih±rav±s²na½ revatattherappamukh±na½ bhikkh³na½ santike pabbajjañceva upasampadañca gaºhitv± piµakattayap±¼imuggaºhi. So eva½ piµakattayap±¼imuggaºhantoyeva aññ±si “ayamek±yanamaggo dassanavisuddhiy± nibb±nasacchikiriy±y±”ti. ¾cariyupajjh±y± ca tassa visiµµhañ±ºappabh±vasampannabh±va½ ñatv± “imassa buddhas±sane kittighoso buddhassa viya pavattissat²”ti sampassam±n± “buddhaghoso”ti n±mamaka½su. Tena vutta½ “buddhaghosoti gar³hi gahitan±madheyyen±”ti.
So eva½ piµakattayap±¼imuggaºhitv± madarasa nagarasam²paµµh±nabh³te may³rad³tapaµµanamhi ca kañcipur±d²su ca vasanto andhakaµµhakath±ya paricaya½ katv± t±ya asantuµµhacitto s²ha¼aµµhakath±supi paricaya½ k±tuk±mo t± ca p±¼ibh±sam±ropetv± abhinav²k±tum±s²santo s²ha¼ad²pamagam±si. Tasmiñca k±le s²ha¼ad²pe mah±n±mo n±ma r±j± rajja½ k±reti, so ca r±j± abhayagiriv±s²su pasanno teyeva visesato paggaºh±ti.
Ekacce pana ±dhunik± vicakkhaº± eva½ vadanti “±cariyabuddhaghosassa s²ha¼ad²p±gamanena sirimeghavaººar±jak±lato (846-bu-va) puretara½yeva bhavitabban”ti. Idañca nesa½ k±raºa½, tassa rañño navavassak±le (855-bu-va) buddhassa d±µh±dh±tukaliªgaraµµhato s²ha¼ad²pam±n²t±, tato paµµh±ya s²ha¼ar±j±no anusa½vacchara½ mahanta½ dh±tup³j±-ussava½ karonti. Yadi ca ±cariyabuddhaghoso tato pacch± s²ha¼ad²pam±gaccheyya, tampi p±s±dika½ mahussava½ disv± attano ganthesu pak±seyya yath± ph±hiya½ n±ma cinabhikkhu mah±n±mar±jak±le (953-975-bu-va) ta½ disv± attano addh±nakkamakath±ya½ pak±sesi, na pana ±cariyassa ganthesu ta½pak±san± dissati, teneta½ ñ±yati “±cariyabuddhaghoso d±µh±dh±tusampattak±lato (855-bu-va) puretara½yeva s²ha¼ad²pam±gantv± aµµhakath±yo ak±s²”ti. Ta½ pana na da¼hak±raºa½ hoti, tipiµakap±¼iy± hi atthasa½vaººan±ya ya½ v± ta½ v± attano paccakkhadiµµha½ pak±setabba½ na hoti, na ca atthasa½vaººan± addh±nakkamakath±sadis±. Kiñca bhiyyo, samantap±s±dik±ya vinayaµµhakath±ya½ d²pava½satopi kiñci ±netv± pak±sita½, d²pava½se ca y±va mah±senar±jak±l± (819-845-bu-va) pavatti pak±sit±ti sirimeghavaººar±jak±lato (845-873-bu-va) pubbe d²pava½soyeva likhito na bhaveyya. Yadi ca aµµhakath±yo tato pubbeyeva kat± bhaveyyu½, katha½ tattha d²pava½so sakk± pak±setunti.
¾cariyabuddhaghoso pana s²ha¼ad²pa½ pattak±le (965-bu-va) mah±vih±rameva gantv± tattha s²ha¼amah±ther±na½ santike s²ha¼aµµhakath±yo suºi. Vuttañhi samantap±s±dik±ya½–
“Mah±-aµµhakathañceva, mah±paccarimeva ca;
kurundiñc±ti tissopi, s²ha¼aµµhakath± im±.
Buddhamittoti n±mena, vissutassa yasassino;
vinayaññussa dh²rassa, sutv± therassa santike”ti [pari. aµµha. nigamanakath±].
Imin± pana aµµhakath±vacanena mah±-aµµhakath±d²na½ tissanna½yeva aµµhakath±na½ sutabh±vo dassito. Samantap±s±dik±ya½ pana saªkhepa-andhakaµµhakath±nampi vinicchayo dassitoyeva, kasm± pana t± ±cariyena s²ha¼atther±na½ santike na sut±ti? T±su hi andhakaµµhakath± t±va andhakaraµµhikabh±vato, kataparicayabh±vato ca na sut±ti p±kaµoyev±yamattho. Saªkhepaµµhakath± pana mah±paccariµµhakath±ya sa½khittamattabh±vato na sut±ti veditabb±. Tath± hi vajirabuddhiµ²k±ya½ ganth±rambhasa½vaººan±ya½ [vijira. µ². ganth±rambhakath±vaººan±] c³¼apaccariµµhakath±-andhakaµµhakath±nampi ±di-saddena saªgahitabh±vo vutto, s±ratthad²pan²-vimativinodan²µ²k±su [s±rattha. µ². 1.92 p±cittiyakaº¹a; vi. vi. µ². 1.ganth±rambhakath±vaººan±] pana andhakasaªkhepaµµhakath±na½ saªgahitabh±vo vutto, samantap±s±dik±yañca c³¼apaccar²ti n±ma½ kuhiñcipi na dissati, mah±µµhakath± mah±paccar² kurund² andhakasaªkhepaµµhakath±ti im±niyeva n±m±ni dissanti, bah³su ca µh±nesu “saªkhepaµµhakath±ya½ pana mah±paccariyañca vuttan”ti-±din± [p±r±. aµµha. 1.94] dvinnampi sam±navinicchayo dassito. Tasm± vajirabuddhiya½ c³¼apaccar²ti vuttaµµhakath± mah±paccarito uddharitv± saªkhepena kataµµhakath± bhaveyya, s± ca saªkhepena katatt± saªkhepaµµhakath± n±ma j±t± bhaveyya. Evañca sati mah±paccariy± sut±ya s±pi sut±yeva hot²ti na s± ±cariyena sut±ti veditabb±.
Eva½ s²ha¼aµµhakath±yo suºantasseva ±cariyabuddhaghosassa tikkhagambh²rajavanañ±ºappabh±vavisesasampannabh±vañca paramavisuddhasaddh±buddhiv²riyapaµimaº¹itas²l±c±rajjavamaddav±diguºasamudaya- samuditabh±vañca sakasamayasamayantaragahanajjhog±haºasamatthapaññ±veyyatti- yasamann±gatabh±vañca anekasatthantarocitasa½vaººan±nayasukovidabh±vañca ñatv± ta½savanakiccapariniµµhitak±le saªghap±l±dayo ther± ta½ visuddhimagg±diganth±na½ karaºatth±ya visu½ visu½ ±y±ci½su. Ettha ca ±cariyassa yath±vuttaguºehi sampannabh±vo attano vacaneneva p±kaµo. Vuttañhi attano ganthanigamanesu–
“Paramavisuddhasaddh±buddhiv²riyapaµimaº¹itena s²l±c±rajjavamaddav±diguºasamudayasamuditena sakasamayasamayantaragahanajjhog±haºasamatthena paññ±veyyattiyasamann±gaten±”ti-±di.
Tattha sakasamayasamayantaragahanajjhog±haºasamatthen±ti padena ±cariyabuddhaghosatthero mah±vih±rav±s²na½ visuddhattherav±d²na½ desan±nayasaªkh±te sakasamaye ca mah±saªghik±dimah±y±nikapariyos±n±na½ nik±yantarabh³t±na½ paresa½ piµakaganthantarav±danayasaªkh±te parasamaye ca tath± ta½k±lika-aññatitthiyasamaºabr±hmaº±na½ vedattay±disaªkh±te parasamaye ca kovido, tesa½ sakasamayaparasamay±na½ durog±hadubbodhatthasaªkh±te gahanaµµh±nepi ca og±hitu½ samatthoti d²peti. Paññ±veyyattiyasamann±gatoti padena ±cariyabuddhaghosatthero por±ºaµµhakath±yo saªkhipituñca paµisaªkharituñca samatthoti d²pet²ti veditabbo.
