Atha kho r±jagahakassa seµµhissa etadahosi– “ya½n³n±ha½ im±ya candanagaºµhiy± patta½ lekh±peyya½. Lekhañca me paribhoga½ bhavissati, pattañca d±na½ dass±m²”ti. Bhagavato etamattha½ ±rocesu½. “Na, bhikkhave, sovaººamayo patto dh±retabbo…pe… na r³piyamayo patto dh±retabbo… na maºimayo patto dh±retabbo… na ve¼uriyamayo patto dh±retabbo… na phalikamayo patto dh±retabbo… na ka½samayo patto dh±retabbo… na k±camayo patto dh±retabbo… na tipumayo patto dh±retabbo… na s²samayo patto dh±retabbo… na tambalohamayo patto dh±retabbo. Yo dh±reyya, ±patti dukkaµassa. Anuj±n±mi, bhikkhave, dve patte– ayopatta½, mattik±pattan”ti.

Bhagavato etamattha½ ±rocesu½. “Na, bhikkhave, ucc±vac±ni pattamaº¹al±ni dh±retabb±ni. Yo dh±reyya, ±patti dukkaµassa. Anuj±n±mi, bhikkhave, dve pattamaº¹al±ni– tipumaya½, s²samayan”ti. 254. Tena kho pana samayena bhikkh³ sodaka½ patta½ paµis±menti. Patto dussati. Bhagavato etamattha½ ±rocesu½. “Na, bhikkhave, sodako patto paµis±metabbo. Yo paµis±meyya, ±patti dukkaµassa. Anuj±n±mi, bhikkhave, ot±petv± patta½ paµis±metun”ti.
Tena kho pana samayena bhikkh³ sodaka½ [sa-udaka½ (ka.)] patta½ ot±penti. Patto duggandho hoti. Bhagavato etamattha½ ±rocesu½. “Na, bhikkhave, sodako patto ot±petabbo. Yo ot±peyya, ±patti dukkaµassa. Anuj±n±mi, bhikkhave, vodaka½ katv± ot±petv± patta½ paµis±metun”ti.
