380. Tena samayena buddho bhagav± camp±ya½ viharati gaggar±ya pokkharaºiy± t²re. Tena kho pana samayena k±s²su janapade v±sabhag±mo n±ma hoti. Tattha kassapagotto n±ma bhikkhu ±v±siko hoti tantibaddho ussukka½ ±panno– kinti an±gat± ca pesal± bhikkh³ ±gaccheyyu½, ±gat± ca pesal± bhikkh³ ph±su vihareyyu½, ayañca ±v±so vuddhi½ viru¼hi½ vepulla½ ±pajjeyy±ti. Tena kho pana samayena sambahul± bhikkh³ k±s²su c±rika½ caram±n± yena v±sabhag±mo tadavasaru½. Addas± kho kassapagotto bhikkhu te bhikkh³ d³ratova ±gacchante, disv±na ±sana½ paññapesi, p±dodaka½ p±dap²µha½ p±dakathalika½ upanikkhipi, paccuggantv± pattac²vara½ paµiggahesi, p±n²yena ±pucchi, nah±ne ussukka½ ak±si, ussukkampi ak±si y±guy± kh±dan²ye bhattasmi½. Atha kho tesa½ ±gantuk±na½ bhikkh³na½ etadahosi– “bhaddako kho aya½, ±vuso, ±v±siko bhikkhu nah±ne ussukka½ karoti, ussukkampi karoti y±guy± kh±dan²ye bhattasmi½. Handa, maya½, ±vuso, idheva v±sabhag±me niv±sa½ kappem±”ti. Atha kho te ±gantuk± bhikkh³ tattheva v±sabhag±me niv±sa½ kappesu½.
Atha kho kassapagottassa bhikkhuno etadahosi– “yo kho imesa½ ±gantuk±na½ bhikkh³na½ ±gantukakilamatho so paµippassaddho. Yepime gocare appakataññuno ted±nime gocare pakataññuno. Dukkara½ kho pana parakulesu y±vaj²va½ ussukka½ k±tu½, viññatti ca manuss±na½ aman±p±. Ya½n³n±ha½ na ussukka½ kareyya½ y±guy± kh±dan²ye bhattasmin”ti. So na ussukka½ ak±si y±guy± kh±dan²ye bhattasmi½. Atha kho tesa½ ±gantuk±na½ bhikkh³na½ etadahosi– “pubbe khv±ya½, ±vuso, ±v±siko bhikkhu nah±ne ussukka½ ak±si, ussukkampi ak±si y±guy± kh±dan²ye bhattasmi½. Atha kho kassapagottassa bhikkhuno etadahosi– “aha½ kho eta½ na j±n±mi ‘±patti v± es± an±patti v±, ±panno camhi [vamhi (?)] An±panno v±, ukkhitto camhi anukkhitto v±, dhammikena v± adhammikena v±, kuppena v± akuppena v±, µh±n±rahena v± aµµh±n±rahena v±’. Ya½n³n±ha½ campa½ gantv± bhagavanta½ etamattha½ puccheyyan”ti. Atha kho kassapagotto bhikkhu sen±sana½ sa½s±metv± pattac²varam±d±ya yena camp± tena pakk±mi. Anupubbena yena camp± yena bhagav± tenupasaªkami, upasaªkamitv± bhagavanta½ abhiv±detv± ekamanta½ nis²di. ¾ciººa½ kho paneta½ buddh±na½ bhagavant±na½ ±gantukehi bhikkh³hi saddhi½ paµisammoditu½. Atha kho bhagav± kassapagotta½ bhikkhu½ etadavoca– “kacci, bhikkhu, khaman²ya½, kacci y±pan²ya½, kacci appakilamathena addh±na½ ±gato, kuto ca tva½, bhikkhu, ±gacchas²”ti? “Khaman²ya½, bhagav±; y±pan²ya½, bhagav±; appakilamathena c±ha½, bhante, addh±na½ ±gato. Atthi, bhante, k±s²su janapade v±sabhag±mo n±ma. Adhammiken±si kammena ukkhitto kuppena aµµh±n±rahena. Gaccha tva½, bhikkhu, tattheva v±sabhag±me niv±sa½ kappeh²”ti. “Eva½, bhante”ti kho kassapagotto bhikkhu bhagavato paµissuºitv± uµµh±y±san± bhagavanta½ abhiv±detv± padakkhiºa½ katv± yena v±sabhag±mo tena pakk±mi.

Atha kho tesa½ ±gantuk±na½ bhikkh³na½ ahudeva kukkucca½, ahu vippaµis±ro– “al±bh± vata no, na vata no l±bh±, dulladdha½ vata no, na vata no suladdha½, ye maya½ suddha½ bhikkhu½ an±pattika½ avatthusmi½ ak±raºe ukkhipimh±. Handa, maya½, ±vuso, campa½ gantv± bhagavato santike accaya½ accayato desem±”ti. Atha kho te ±gantuk± bhikkh³ sen±sana½ sa½s±metv± pattac²varam±d±ya yena camp± tena pakkami½su. Anupubbena yena camp± yena bhagav± tenupasaªkami½su, upasaªkamitv± bhagavanta½ abhiv±detv± ekamanta½ nis²di½su. ¾ciººa½ kho paneta½ buddh±na½ bhagavant±na½ ±gantukehi bhikkh³hi saddhi½ paµisammoditu½. Atha kho bhagav± te bhikkh³ etadavoca– “kacci, bhikkhave, khaman²ya½, kacci y±pan²ya½, kaccittha appakilamathena addh±na½ ±gat±, kuto ca tumhe, bhikkhave, ±gacchath±”ti “Khaman²ya½, bhagav±; y±pan²ya½, bhagav±; appakilamathena ca maya½, bhante, addh±na½ ±gat±. Atthi, bhante, k±s²su janapade v±sabhag±mo n±ma. Tato maya½, bhagav±, ±gacch±m±”ti. “Tumhe, bhikkhave, ±v±sika½ bhikkhu½ ukkhipitth±”ti? “Eva½, bhante”ti. “Kismi½, bhikkhave, vatthusmi½ k±raºe”ti? “Avatthusmi½, bhagav±, ak±raºe”ti. Vigarahi buddho bhagav±– “ananucchavika½, moghapuris±, ananulomika½ appatir³pa½ ass±maºaka½ akappiya½ akaraº²ya½. Kathañhi n±ma tumhe, moghapuris±, suddha½ bhikkhu½ an±pattika½ avatthusmi½ ak±raºe ukkhipissatha. Neta½, moghapuris±, appasann±na½ v± pas±d±ya…pe…” vigarahitv± dhammi½ katha½ katv± bhikkh³ ±mantesi– “na, bhikkhave, suddho bhikkhu an±pattiko avatthusmi½ ak±raºe ukkhipitabbo. Yo ukkhipeyya, ±patti dukkaµass±”ti.
Atha kho te bhikkh³ uµµh±y±san± eka½sa½ uttar±saªga½ karitv± bhagavato p±desu siras± nipatitv± bhagavanta½ etadavocu½– “accayo no, bhante, accagam± yath±b±le yath±m³¼he yath±-akusale, ye maya½ suddha½ bhikkhu½ an±pattika½ avatthusmi½ ak±raºe ukkhipimh±. Tesa½ no, bhante, bhagav± accaya½ accayato paµiggaºh±tu ±yati½ sa½var±y±”ti. “Taggha, tumhe, bhikkhave, accayo accagam± yath±b±le yath±m³¼he yath±-akusale, ye tumhe suddha½ bhikkhu½ an±pattika½ avatthusmi½ ak±raºe ukkhipittha. Yato ca kho tumhe, bhikkhave, accaya½ accayato disv± yath±dhamma½ paµikarotha, ta½ vo maya½ paµiggaºh±ma. Vuddhihes± bhikkhave, ariyassa vinaye yo accaya½ accayato disv± yath±dhamma½ paµikaroti, ±yati½ [±yati½ ca (s².)] sa½vara½ ±pajjat²”ti.
