298. Atha kho bhagav± ves±liya½ yath±bhiranta½ viharitv± yena bhaddiya½ tena c±rika½ pakk±mi mahat± bhikkhusaªghena saddhi½ a¹¹hatelasehi bhikkhusatehi. Atha kho bhagav± anupubbena c±rika½ caram±no yena bhaddiya½ tadavasari. Tatra suda½ bhagav± bhaddiye viharati j±tiy± vane. Assosi kho meº¹ako gahapati– “samaºo khalu bho gotamo sakyaputto sakyakul± pabbajito bhaddiya½ anuppatto bhaddiye viharati j±tiy± vane. Ta½ kho pana bhagavanta½ gotama½ eva½ kaly±ºo kittisaddo abbhuggato– ‘itipi so bhagav± araha½ samm±sambuddho vijj±caraºasampanno sugato lokavid³ anuttaro purisadammas±rathi satth± devamanuss±na½ buddho bhagav±’ [bhagav±ti (ka.)]. So ima½ loka½ sadevaka½ sam±raka½ sabrahmaka½ sassamaºabr±hmaºi½ paja½ sadevamanussa½ saya½ abhiññ± sacchikatv± pavedeti. So dhamma½ deseti ±dikaly±ºa½ majjhekaly±ºa½ pariyos±nakaly±ºa½ s±ttha½ sabyañjana½ kevalaparipuººa½ parisuddha½ brahmacariya½ pak±seti. S±dhu kho pana tath±r³p±na½ arahata½ dassana½ hot²”ti. Atha kho meº¹ako gahapati bhadr±ni bhadr±ni y±n±ni yoj±petv± bhadra½ bhadra½ y±na½ abhiruhitv± bhadrehi bhadrehi y±nehi bhaddiy± niyy±si bhagavanta½ dassan±ya. Addasa½su kho sambahul± titthiy± meº¹aka½ gahapati½ d³ratova ±gacchanta½, disv±na meº¹aka½ gahapati½ etadavocu½– “kaha½ tva½, gahapati, gacchas²”ti? “Gacch±maha½, bhante, bhagavanta½ [ida½ pada½ s². sy±. potthakesu natthi] samaºa½ gotama½ dassan±y±”ti. “Ki½ pana tva½, gahapati, kiriyav±do sam±no akiriyav±da½ samaºa½ gotama½ dassan±ya upasaªkamissasi? Samaºo hi, gahapati, gotamo akiriyav±do akiriy±ya dhamma½ deseti, tena ca s±vake vinet²”ti. Atha kho meº¹akassa gahapatissa etadahosi– “nissa½saya½, kho so bhagav± araha½ samm±sambuddho bhavissati, yathayime titthiy± us³yant²”ti. Y±vatik± y±nassa bh³mi, y±nena gantv± y±n± paccorohitv± pattikova yena bhagav± tenupasaªkami, upasaªkamitv± bhagavanta½ abhiv±detv± ekamanta½ nis²di. Ekamanta½ nisinnassa kho meº¹akassa gahapatissa bhagav± anupubbi½ katha½ kathesi, seyyathida½– d±nakatha½…pe… aparappaccayo satthus±sane bhagavanta½ etadavoca– “abhikkanta½, bhante…pe… up±saka½ ma½ bhagav± dh±retu ajjatagge p±ºupeta½ saraºa½ gata½ Adhiv±setu ca me, bhante, bhagav± sv±tan±ya bhatta½ saddhi½ bhikkhusaªghen±”ti. Adhiv±sesi bhagav± tuºh²bh±vena. Atha kho meº¹ako gahapati bhagavato adhiv±sana½ viditv± uµµh±y±san± bhagavanta½ abhiv±detv± padakkhiºa½ katv± pakk±mi.
Atha kho meº¹ako gahapati tass± rattiy± accayena paº²ta½ kh±dan²ya½ bhojan²ya½ paµiy±d±petv± bhagavato k±la½ ±roc±pesi– “k±lo, bhante, niµµhita½ bhattan”ti. Atha kho bhagav± pubbaºhasamaya½ niv±setv± pattac²varam±d±ya yena meº¹akassa gahapatissa nivesana½ tenupasaªkami; upasaªkamitv± paññatte ±sane nis²di saddhi½ bhikkhusaªghena. Atha kho meº¹akassa gahapatissa bhariy± ca putto ca suºis± ca d±so ca yena bhagav± tenupasaªkami½su upasaªkamitv± bhagavanta½ abhiv±detv± ekamanta½ nis²di½su. Tesa½ bhagav± anupubbi½ katha½ kathesi, seyyathida½– d±nakatha½…pe… aparappaccay± satthus±sane bhagavanta½ etadavocu½– “abhikkanta½, bhante…pe… ete maya½, bhante, bhagavanta½ saraºa½ gacch±ma dhammañca bhikkhusaªghañca. Up±sake no bhagav± dh±retu ajjatagge p±ºupete saraºa½ gate”ti. Atha kho meº¹ako gahapati buddhappamukha½ bhikkhusaªgha½ paº²tena kh±dan²yena bhojan²yena sahatth± santappetv± sampav±retv± bhagavanta½ bhutt±vi½ on²tapattap±ºi½ ekamanta½ nis²di. Ekamanta½ nisinno kho meº¹ako gahapati bhagavanta½ etadavoca– “y±va, bhante, bhagav± bhaddiye viharati t±va aha½ buddhappamukhassa bhikkhusaªghassa dhuvabhatten±”ti.
