Bhagavato kira r±j±yatanam³le satt±ha½ ekapallaŖkena nisinnassa sam±dhito vuµµh±nadivase aruŗuggamanavel±yameva “bhojanakiccena bhavitabban”ti ńatv± sakko devar±j± osadhahar²taka½ upanesi. Bhagav± ta½ paribhuńji, paribhuttamattasseva sar²rakicca½ ahosi. Sakko mukhodaka½ ad±si. Bhagav± mukha½ dhovitv± tasmi½yeva rukkham³le nis²di. Eva½ uggate aruŗamhi nisinne bhagavati.
Tena kho pana samayena tapussabhallik± v±ŗij±ti tapusso ca bhalliko c±ti dve bh±taro v±ŗij±. Ukkal±ti ukkalajanapadato. Ta½ desanti yasmi½ dese bhagav± viharati. Katarasmińca dese bhagav± viharati? Majjhimadese. Tasm± majjhimadesa½ gantu½ addh±namaggappaµipann± hont²ti ayamettha attho. ѱtis±lohit± devat±ti tesa½ ń±tibh³tapubb± devat±. Etadavoc±ti s± kira nesa½ sabbasakaµ±ni appavatt²ni ak±si. Tato te ki½ idanti maggadevat±na½ bali½ aka½su. Tesa½ balikammak±le s± devat± dissam±neneva k±yena eta½ avoca. Manthena ca madhupiŗ¹ik±ya c±ti abaddhasattun± ca sappimadhuph±ŗit±d²hi yojetv± baddhasattun± ca. Patim±neth±ti upaµµhahatha. Ta½ voti ta½ patim±nana½ tumh±ka½ bhavissati d²gharatta½ hit±ya sukh±ya. Ya½ amh±kanti ya½ paµiggahaŗa½ amh±ka½ assa d²gharatta½ hit±ya sukh±ya. Bhagavato etadahos²ti yo kirassa padh±n±nuyogak±le patto ahosi, so suj±t±ya p±y±sa½ d±tu½ ±gacchantiy± eva antaradh±yi. Tenassa etadahosi– “patto me natthi, purimak±pi ca na kho tath±gat± hatthesu paµiggaŗhanti, kimhi nu kho aha½ paµiggaŗheyya½ manthańca madhupiŗ¹akańc±”ti.
Parivitakkamańń±y±ti ito pubbeva bhagavato suj±t±ya dinnabhojana½yeva oj±nuppabandhanavasena aµµh±si, ettaka½ k±la½ neva jighacch± na pip±s± na k±yadubbalya½ ahosi. Id±ni panassa ±h±ra½ paµiggahetuk±mat±ya “na kho tath±gat±”ti-±din± nayena parivitakko udap±di Ta½ eva½ uppanna½ attano cetas± bhagavato cetoparivitakkamańń±ya. Catuddis±ti cat³hi dis±hi. Selamaye patteti muggavaŗŗaselamaye patte. Ida½yeva bhagav± paµiggahesi, teyeva sandh±ya vutta½. Catt±ro pana mah±r±j±no paµhama½ indan²lamaŗimaye patte upan±mesu½, na te bhagav± aggahesi. Tato ime catt±ropi muggavaŗŗasil±maye patte upan±mesu½, bhagav± catt±ropi patte aggahesi tesa½ pas±d±nurakkhaŗatth±ya, no mahicchat±ya. Gahetv± ca pana catt±ropi yath± ekova patto hoti tath± adhiµµhahi, catunnampi ekasadiso puńńavip±ko ahosi. Eva½ eka½ katv± adhiµµhite paµiggahesi bhagav± paccagghe selamaye patte manthańca madhupiŗ¹ikańca. Paccaggheti paccagghasmi½; p±µekka½ mahagghasminti attho. Atha v± paccaggheti abhinave abbhuŗhe; taŖkhaŗe nibbattasminti attho. Dve v±c± etesa½ ahesunti dvev±cik±. Atha v± dv²hi v±c±hi up±sakabh±va½ patt±ti attho Te eva½ up±sakabh±va½ paµivedetv± bhagavanta½ ±ha½su– “kassa d±ni bhante amhehi ajja paµµh±ya abhiv±danapaccuµµh±na½ k±tabban”ti? Atha bhagav± s²sa½ par±masi, kes± hatthe laggi½su. Te tesa½ ad±si “ime tumhe pariharath±”ti. Te kesadh±tuyo labhitv± amateneva abhisitt± haµµhatuµµh± bhagavanta½ vanditv± pakkami½su.
