So ekadivasa½ sambhatesu sabbasassesu vissaµµhakammantesu janapadamanussesu pupphitesu thalajajalajapupphesu paµipajjanakkhame magge bhagavanta½ vanditv± saµµhimatt±hi g±th±hi gamanavaººa½ vaººesi. Ta½divasameva ca nandar±jakum±rassa kesavissajjana½ paµµabandho gharamaªgala½ ±v±hamaªgala½ chattamaªgalanti pañca mah±maªgal±ni honti. Bhagav± nanda½ patta½ g±h±petv± maªgala½ vatv± uµµh±y±san± pakk±mi. Janapadakaly±º² kum±ra½ gacchanta½ disv± “tuvaµa½ kho ayyaputta ±gaccheyy±s²”ti vatv± g²va½ pas±retv± olokesi. Sopi bhagavanta½ “patta½ gaºhath±”ti vattu½ avisaham±no vih±ra½yeva agam±si. Ta½ aniccham±na½yeva bhagav± pabb±jesi. Iti bhagav± kapilapura½ ±gantv± dutiyadivase nanda½ pabb±jesi.

Imañca panattha½ viditv± bhagav± puna t²hi saraºagamanehi s±maºerapabbajja½ anuj±nituk±mo, tasm± dhammasen±pati ta½ bhagavato ajjh±saya½ viditv± bhagavanta½ puna pabbajja½ anuj±n±petuk±mo ±ha– “kath±ha½ bhante r±hulakum±ra½ pabb±jem²”ti.
Atha kho ±yasm± s±riputto r±hulakum±ra½ pabb±jes²ti kum±rassa mah±moggall±natthero kese chinditv± k±s±y±ni datv± saraº±ni ad±si. Mah±kassapatthero ov±d±cariyo ahosi. Yasm± pana upajjh±yam³lak± pabbajj± ca upasampad± ca, upajjh±yova tattha issaro, na ±cariyo, tasm± vutta½– “atha kho ±yasm± s±riputto r±hulakum±ra½ pabb±jes²”ti.
Eva½ “kum±ro pabbajito”ti sutv± uppannasa½vegena hadayena atha kho suddhodano sakkoti sabba½ vattabba½. Tattha yasm± uñch±cariy±ya j²vato pabbajitassa avisesena “vara½ y±c±m²”ti vutte “y±cass³”ti vacana½ appatir³pa½, na ca buddh±na½ ±ciººa½, tasm± “atikkantavar± kho gotama tath±gat±”ti vutta½. Yañca bhante kappati yañca anavajjanti ya½ tumh±kañceva d±tu½ kappati, anavajjañca hoti, mama ca sampaµicchanapaccay± viññ³hi na garahitabba½ ta½ y±c±m²ti attho. Tath± nande adhimatta½ r±huleti yatheva kira bodhisatta½ eva½ nandampi r±hulampi maªgaladivase nemittak± “cakkavatt² bhavissat²”ti by±kari½su. Atha r±j± “puttassa cakkavattisiri½ passiss±m²”ti uss±haj±to bhagavato pabbajj±ya mahanta½ icch±vigh±ta½ p±puºi. Tato “nandassa cakkavattisiri½ passiss±m²”ti uss±ha½ janesi, tampi bhagav± pabb±jesi. Iti tampi dukkha½ adhiv±setv± “id±ni r±hulassa cakkavattisiri½ passiss±m²”ti uss±ha½ janesi, tampi bhagav± pabb±jesi. Tenassa “id±ni kulava½sopi pacchinno, kuto cakkavattisir²”ti adhikatara½ dukkha½ uppajji. Tena vutta½– “tath± nande adhimatta½ r±hule”ti. Rañño pana ito pacch± an±g±miphalappatti veditabb±.
S±dhu bhante ayy±ti ida½ kasm± ±ha? So kira cintesi– “yatra hi n±ma ahampi buddham±mako dhammam±mako saªgham±mako sam±no attano piyataraputte pabb±jiyam±ne ñ±tiviyogadukkha½ adhiv±setu½ na sakkomi, aññe jan± puttanattakesu pabb±jitesu katha½ adhiv±sessanti, tasm± aññesampi t±va evar³pa½ dukkha½ m± ahos²”ti ±ha. Tattha m±t±pit³h²ti jananijanake sandh±ya vutta½. Sace dve atthi, dvepi ±pucchitabb±. Sace pit± mato m±t± v±, yo j²vati so ±pucchitabbo. Pabbajit±pi ±pucchitabb±va. ¾pucchantena saya½ v± gantv± ±pucchitabba½, añño v± pesetabbo, so eva v± pesetabbo “gaccha m±t±pitaro ±pucchitv± eh²”ti. Sace “anuññ±tomh²”ti vadati, saddahantena pabb±jetabbo. Pit± saya½ pabbajito puttampi pabb±jetuk±mo hoti, m±tara½ ±pucchitv±va pabb±jetu.
