Na kho meta½ patir³panti-±dimhi aya½ saŖkhepavaŗŗan±– himavante kira pakkhadivasesu devat±sannip±to hoti, tattha rukkhadhamma½ pucchanti– “tva½ rukkhadhamme µhit± na µhit±”ti? Rukkhadhammo n±ma rukkhe chijjam±ne rukkhadevat±ya manopadosassa akaraŗa½. Tattha y± devat± rukkhadhamme aµµhit± hoti, s± devat±sannip±ta½ pavisitu½ na labhati. Iti s± devat± imańca rukkhadhamme aµµh±napaccaya½ ±d²nava½ addasa, bhagavato ca sammukh± sutapubbadhammadesan±nus±rena tath±gatassa chaddant±dik±le pubbacarita½ anussari. Tenass± etadahosi– “na kho meta½ patir³pa½…pe… voropeyyan”ti. Ya½n³n±ha½ bhagavato etamattha½ ±roceyyanti ida½ panass± “aya½ bhikkhu sapitiko putto, addh± bhagav± ima½ imassa ajjh±c±ra½ sutv± mariy±da½ bandhissati, sikkh±pada½ pańńapessat²”ti paµisańcikkhantiy± ahosi. Sacajja tva½ devateti sace ajja tva½ devate. Pasaveyy±s²ti janeyy±si upp±deyy±si. Evańca pana vatv± bhagav± ta½ devata½ sańń±pento–
“Yo ve uppatita½ kodha½, ratha½ bhanta½va v±raye;
tamaha½ s±rathi½ br³mi, rasmigg±ho itaro jano”ti. (Dha. pa. 222).

Ima½ g±thamabh±si. Tatra paµhamag±th± dhammapade saŖgaha½ ±ru¼h±, dutiy± suttanip±te, vatthu pana vinayeti. Atha bhagav± dhamma½ desentoyeva tass± devat±ya vasanaµµh±na½ ±vajjanto patir³pa½ µh±na½ disv± “gaccha, devate, asukasmi½ ok±se rukkho vivitto, tasmi½ upagacch±”ti ±ha. So kira rukkho na ±¼aviraµµhe, jetavanassa antoparikkhepe, yassa devaputtassa pariggaho ahosi, so cuto; tasm± “vivitto”ti vutto. Tato paµµh±ya ca pana s± devat± samm±sambuddhato laddhaparih±r± buddhupaµµh±yik± ahosi. Yad± devat±sam±gamo hoti, tad± mahesakkhadevat±su ±gacchant²su ańń± appesakkh± devat± y±va mah±samuddacakkav±¼apabbat± t±va paµikkamanti. Aya½ pana attano vasanaµµh±ne nis²ditv±va dhamma½ suŗ±ti. G±moti r±si; bh³t±na½ g±moti bh³tag±mo; bh³t± eva v± g±mo bh³tag±mo; patiµµhitaharitatiŗarukkh±d²nameta½ adhivacana½. P±tabyassa bh±vo p±tabyat±; chedanabhedan±d²hi yath±ruci paribhuńjitabbat±ti attho. Eva½ santepi “y±ni v± panańń±nipi atthi m³le j±yant²”ti-±d²ni na samenti. Tattha yath± “s±l²na½ cepi odana½ bhuńjat²”ti-±d²su (ma. ni. 1.76) s±litaŗ¹ul±na½ odano “s±l²na½ odano”ti vuccati, eva½ b²jato sambh³to bh³tag±mo “b²jan”ti vuttoti veditabbo. B²jag±mabh³tag±mo n±mesa atthi udakaµµho, atthi thalaµµho Tattha udakaµµho s±sapamattik± tilab²jak±dibhed± sapaŗŗik± apaŗŗik± ca sabb± sev±laj±ti antamaso udakapappaµaka½ up±d±ya “bh³tag±mo”ti veditabbo. Udakapappaµako n±ma upari thaddho pharusavaŗŗo, heµµh± mudu n²lavaŗŗo hoti. Tattha yassa sev±lassa m³la½ or³hitv± pathaviya½ patiµµhita½, tassa pathav² µh±na½. Yo udake sańcarati, tassa udaka½. Pathaviya½ patiµµhita½ yattha katthaci vikopentassa uddharitv± v± µh±nantara½ saŖk±mentassa p±cittiya½. Udake sańcaranta½ vikopentasseva p±cittiya½. Hatthehi pana ito cito ca viy³hitv± nh±yitu½ vaµµati, sakalańhi udaka½ tassa µh±na½. Tasm± na so ett±vat± µh±nantara½ saŖk±mito hoti. Udakato pana udakena vin± sańcicca ukkhipitu½ na vaµµati, udakena saddhi½ ukkhipitv± puna udake pakkhipitu½ vaµµati. Pariss±vanantarena nikkhamati, kappiya½ k±r±petv±va udaka½ paribhuńjitabba½. Asampuŗŗabh³tag±mo n±ma tatiyo koµµh±so neva p±¼iya½ na aµµhakath±su ±gato. Atha eta½ b²jag±masaŖgaha½ gacchissat²ti tampi na yutta½, abh³tag±mam³latt± t±disassa b²jag±mass±ti. Apica “garukalahukesu garuke µh±tabban”ti eta½ vinayalakkhaŗa½.
Thalaµµhe– chinnarukkh±na½ avasiµµho haritakh±ŗu n±ma hoti. Tattha kakudhakarańjapiyaŖgupanas±d²na½ kh±ŗu uddha½ va¹¹hati, so bh³tag±mena saŖgahito. T±lan±¼iker±d²na½ kh±ŗu uddha½ na va¹¹hati, so b²jag±mena saŖgahito. Kadaliy± pana aphalit±ya kh±ŗu bh³tag±mena saŖgahito, phalit±ya b²jag±mena. Kadal² pana phalit± y±va n²lapaŗŗ±, t±va bh³tag±meneva saŖgahit±, tath± phalito ve¼u. Yad± pana aggato paµµh±ya sussati, tad± b²jag±mena saŖgaha½ gacchati. Katarab²jag±mena? Pha¼ub²jag±mena. Ki½ tato nibbattati? Na kińci. Yadi hi nibbatteyya, bh³tag±meneva saŖgaha½ gaccheyya. Indas±l±dirukkhe chinditv± r±si½ karonti, kińc±pi r±sikatadaŗ¹akehi ratanappam±ŗ±pi s±kh± nikkhamanti, b²jag±meneva saŖgaha½ gacchanti. Tattha maŗ¹apatth±ya v± vati-atth±ya v± valli-±ropanatth±ya v± bh³miya½ nikhaŗanti, m³lesu ceva paŗŗesu ca niggatesu puna bh³tag±masaŖkhya½ gacchanti. M³lamattesu pana paŗŗamattesu v± niggatesu b²jag±mena saŖgahit± eva.
Y±ni k±nici b²j±ni pathaviya½ v± udakena sińcitv± µhapit±ni, kap±l±d²su v± allapa½su½ pakkhipitv± nikkhitt±ni honti, sabb±ni m³lamatte paŗŗamatte v± niggatepi b²j±niyeva. Sacepi m³l±ni ca upari aŖkuro ca niggacchati, y±va aŖkuro harito na hoti, t±va b²j±niyeva. Mugg±d²na½ pana paŗŗesu uµµhitesu v²hi-±d²na½ v± aŖkure harite n²lapaŗŗavaŗŗe j±te bh³tag±masaŖgaha½ gacchanti. T±laµµh²na½ paµhama½ s³karad±µh± viya m³la½ niggacchati. Niggatepi y±va upari pattavaµµi na niggacchati, t±va b²jag±moyeva. N±¼ikerassa taca½ bhinditv± dantas³ci viya aŖkuro niggacchati y±va migasiŖgasadis± n²lapattavaµµi na hoti, t±va b²jag±moyeva. M³le aniggatepi t±dis±ya pattavaµµiy± j±t±ya am³lakabh³tag±me saŖgaha½ gacchati.

P±n²yaghaµ±d²na½ bahi sev±lo dukkaµavatthu, anto abboh±riko. Dantakaµµhap³v±d²su kaŗŗakampi abboh±rikameva. Vuttańheta½– “sace gerukaparikammakat± bhitti kaŗŗakit± hoti, co¼aka½ temetv± p²¼etv± pamajjitabb±”ti (mah±va. 66).

Y± pana indas±lakakudh±d²na½ pappaµik± rukkhato muccitv± tiµµhati, ta½ gaŗhantassa an±patti. Niyy±sampi rukkhato muccitv± µhita½ sukkharukkhe v± lagga½ gaŗhitu½ vaµµati. Allarukkhato na vaµµati. L±kh±yapi eseva nayo. Rukkha½ c±letv± paŗ¹upal±sa½ v± pariŗatakaŗik±r±dipuppha½ v± p±tentassa p±cittiyameva. Chindati v± ched±peti v±ti antamaso sammuńjanosal±k±yapi tiŗ±ni chindiss±m²ti bh³mi½ sammajjanto saya½ v± chindati, ańńena v± ched±peti. Bhindati v± bhed±peti v±ti antamaso caŖkamantopi chijjanaka½ chijjatu, bhijjanaka½ bhijjatu, caŖkamitaµµh±na½ dassess±m²ti sańcicca p±dehi akkamanto tiŗavalli-±d²ni saya½ v± bhindati ańńena v± bhed±peti. Sacepi hi tiŗa½ v± lata½ v± gaŗµhi½ karontassa bhijjati, gaŗµhipi na k±tabbo. T±larukkh±d²su pana cor±na½ an±ruhanatth±ya d±rumakkaµaka½ ±koµenti, kaŗµake bandhanti, bhikkhussa eva½ k±tu½ na vaµµati. Sace d±rumakkaµako rukkhe all²namattova hoti, rukkha½ na p²¼eti, vaµµati. “Rukkha½ chinda, lata½ chinda, kanda½ v± m³la½ v± upp±µeh²”ti vattumpi vaµµati, aniy±mitatt±. Niy±metv± pana “ima½ rukkha½ chind±”ti-±di vattu½ na vaµµati. N±ma½ gahetv±pi “ambarukkha½ caturassavalli½ ±luvakanda½ muńjatiŗa½ asukarukkhacchalli½ chinda bhinda upp±µeh²”ti-±divacanampi aniy±mitameva hoti. “Ima½ ambarukkhan”ti-±divacanameva hi niy±mita½ n±ma, ta½ na vaµµati.
Pacati v± pac±peti v±ti antamaso pattampi pacituk±mo tiŗ±d²na½ upari sańcicca aggi½ karonto saya½ v± pacati, ańńena v± pac±pet²ti sabba½ pathav²khaŗanasikkh±pade vuttanayena veditabba½. Aniy±metv± pana “mugge paca, m±se pac±”ti-±di vattu½ vaµµati. “Ime mugge paca, ime m±se pac±”ti eva½ vattu½ na vaµµati.
An±patti ima½ j±n±ti-±d²su “ima½ m³labhesajja½ j±na, ima½ m³la½ v± paŗŗa½ v± dehi, ima½ rukkha½ v± lata½ v± ±hara, imin± pupphena v± phalena v± paŗŗena v± attho, ima½ rukkha½ v± lata½ v± phala½ v± kappiya½ karoh²”ti evamattho daµµhabbo. Ett±vat± bh³tag±maparimocana½ kata½ hoti. Paribhuńjantena pana b²jag±maparimocanattha½ puna kappiya½ k±retabba½.
Kappiyakaraŗańcettha imin± sutt±nus±rena veditabba½– “anuj±n±mi, bhikkhave, pańcahi samaŗakappehi phala½ paribhuńjitu½ aggiparijita½ satthaparijita½ nakhaparijita½ ab²ja½ nibbaµµab²jameva pańcaman”ti. Tattha “aggiparijitan”ti aggin± parijita½ adhibh³ta½ da¹¹ha½ phuµµhanti attho. “Satthaparijitan”ti satthena parijita½ adhibh³ta½ chinna½ viddha½ v±ti attho. Esa nayo nakhaparijite. Ab²janibbaµµab²j±ni sayameva kappiy±ni. Aggin± kappiya½ karontena kaµµhaggigomayaggi-±d²su yena kenaci antamaso lohakhaŗ¹enapi ±dittena kappiya½ k±tabba½. Tańca kho ekadese phusantena “kappiyan”ti vatv±va k±tabba½. Satthena karontena yassa kassaci lohamayasatthassa antamaso s³cinakhacchedan±nampi tuŗ¹ena v± dh±r±ya v± cheda½ v± vedha½ v± dassentena “kappiyan”ti vatv±va k±tabba½. Nakhena kappiya½ karontena p³tinakhena na k±tabba½. Manuss±na½ pana s²habyagghad²pimakkaµ±d²na½ sakunt±nańca nakh± tikhiŗ± honti, tehi k±tabba½. Assamahi½sas³karamigagor³p±d²na½ khur± atikhiŗ±, tehi na k±tabba½, katampi akata½ hoti. Hatthinakh± pana khur± na honti, tehi vaµµati. Yehi pana k±tu½ vaµµati, tehi tatthaj±takehipi uddharitv± gahitakehipi cheda½ v± vedha½ v± dassentena “kappiyan”ti vatv±va k±tabba½.
Tattha sacepi b²j±na½ pabbatamatto r±si rukkhasahassa½ v± chinditv± ek±baddha½ katv± ucch³na½ v± mah±bh±ro bandhitv± µhapito hoti, ekasmi½ b²je v± rukkhas±kh±ya v± ucchumhi v± kappiye kate sabba½ kata½ hoti. Ucch³ ca d±r³ni ca ekato baddh±ni honti, ucchu½ kappiya½ kariss±m²ti d±ru½ vijjhati, vaµµatiyeva. Sace pana y±ya rajjuy± v± valliy± v± baddh±ni, ta½ vijjhati, na vaµµati. Ucchukhaŗ¹±na½ pacchi½ p³retv± ±haranti, ekasmi½ khaŗ¹e kappiye kate sabba½ katameva hoti. Maricapakk±d²hi missetv± bhatta½ ±haranti, “kappiya½ karoh²”ti vutte sacepi bhattasitthe vijjhati, vaµµatiyeva. Tilataŗ¹ul±d²supi eseva nayo. Y±guy± pakkhitt±ni pana ek±baddh±ni hutv± na santiµµhanti, tattha ekameka½ vijjhitv± kappiya½ k±tabbameva. Kapitthaphal±d²na½ anto mińja½ kaµ±ha½ muńcitv± sańcarati, bhind±petv± kappiya½ k±r±petabba½. Ek±baddha½ hoti, kaµ±hepi k±tu½ vaµµati.
Asańcicc±ti p±s±ŗarukkh±d²ni v± pavaµµentassa s±kha½ v± ka¹¹hantassa kattaradaŗ¹ena v± bh³mi½ paharitv± gacchantassa tiŗ±ni chijjanti, t±ni tena chindiss±m²ti eva½ sańcicca acchinnatt± asańcicca chinn±ni n±ma honti. Iti asańcicca chindantassa an±patti.
