296. Tena samayena buddho bhagav± s±vatthiya½ viharati jetavane an±thapiº¹ikassa ±r±me. Tena kho pana samayena ±yasm± ud±y² s±vatthiya½ kul³pako hoti. Bahuk±ni kul±ni upasaªkamati. Yattha passati kum±raka½ v± apaj±patika½, kum±rika½ v± apatika½, kum±rakassa m±t±pit³na½ santike kum±rik±ya vaººa½ bhaºati– “amukassa kulassa kum±rik± abhir³p± dassan²y± p±s±dik± paº¹it± byatt± medh±vin² dakkh± analas±. Chann± s± kum±rik± imassa kum±rakass±”ti. Te eva½ vadanti– “ete kho, bhante, amhe na j±nanti– ‘ke v± ime kassa v±’ti. Sace, bhante, ayyo d±peyya ±neyy±ma maya½ ta½ kum±rika½ imassa kum±rakass±”ti. Kum±rik±ya m±t±pit³na½ santike kum±rakassa vaººa½ bhaºati– “amukassa kulassa kum±rako abhir³po dassan²yo p±s±diko paº¹ito byatto medh±v² dakkho analaso. Chann±ya½ kum±rik± tassa kum±rakass±”ti [channo so kum±rako imiss± kum±rik±y±ti (sy±.)]. Te eva½ vadanti– “ete kho, bhante, amhe na j±nanti– ‘ke v± ime kassa v±’ti, kismi½ viya kum±rik±ya vattu½. Sace, bhante, ayyo y±c±peyya dajjeyy±ma maya½ ima½ kum±rika½ tassa kum±rakass±”ti. Eteneva up±yena ±v±h±nipi k±r±peti viv±h±nipi k±r±peti, v±reyy±nipi k±r±peti.
297. Tena kho pana samayena aññatariss± pur±ºagaºakiy± dh²t± abhir³p± hoti dassan²y± p±s±dik±. Tirog±mak± ±j²vakas±vak± ±gantv± ta½ gaºaki½ etadavocu½– “deh±yye, ima½ kum±rika½ amh±ka½ kum±rakass±”ti. S± evam±ha– “aha½ khvayyo [khvayy± (sy±.), khv±yyo (ka.)] tumhe na j±n±mi– ‘ke v± ime kassa v±’ti. Ayañca me ekadh²tik±, tirog±mo ca gantabbo, n±ha½ dass±m²”ti. Manuss± te ±j²vakas±vake etadavocu½– “kissa tumhe, ayyo ±gatatth±”ti? “Idha maya½, ayyo, amuka½ n±ma gaºaki½ dh²tara½ y±cimh± amh±ka½ kum±rakassa. S± evam±ha– ‘aha½, khvayyo tumhe na j±n±mi– ke v± ime kassa v±’ti. Ayañca me ekadh²tik±, tirog±mo ca gantabbo, n±ha½ dass±m²”ti. “Kissa tumhe, ayyo, ta½ gaºaki½ dh²tara½ y±cittha? Nanu ayyo ud±y² vattabbo. Ayyo ud±y² d±pessat²”ti.

Tato aparena d±sibhogena bhuñjanti. ¾gacchatu me m±t±, ma½ nessat³”ti. Atha kho s± gaºak² yena te ±j²vakas±vak± tenupasaªkami; upasaªkamitv± te ±j²vakas±vake etadavoca– “m±yyo, ima½ kum±rika½ d±sibhogena bhuñjittha. Suºisabhogena ima½ kum±rika½ bhuñjath±”ti. Te evam±ha½su– “natthamh±ka½ tay± saddhi½ ±h±r³pah±ro, samaºena saddhi½ amh±ka½ ±h±r³pah±ro Gaccha tva½. Na maya½ ta½ j±n±m±”ti. Atha kho s± gaºak² tehi ±j²vakas±vakehi apas±dit± punadeva s±vatthi½ pacc±gañchi. Dutiyampi kho s± kum±rik± m±tuy± santike d³ta½ p±hesi– “ahamhi duggat± dukkhit±, na sukha½ labh±mi. Te evam±ha½su– “natthamh±ka½ tay± saddhi½ ±h±r³pah±ro, gaºakiy± saddhi½ amh±ka½ ±h±r³pah±ro. Samaºena bhavitabba½ aby±vaµena. Samaºo assa susamaºo, gaccha tva½, na maya½ ta½ j±n±m±”ti. Atha kho ±yasm± ud±y² tehi ±j²vakas±vakehi apas±dito punadeva s±vatthi½ pacc±gañchi. Tatiyampi kho s± kum±rik± m±tuy± santike d³ta½ p±hesi– “ahamhi duggat± dukkhit±, na sukha½ labh±mi. Atha kho s± gaºak² ujjh±yati khiyyati vip±ceti– “eva½ duggato hotu ayyo ud±y², eva½ dukkhito hotu ayyo ud±y², eva½ m± sukha½ labhatu ayyo ud±y², yath± me kum±rik± duggat± dukkhit± na sukha½ labhati p±pik±ya sassuy± p±pakena sasurena p±pakena s±miken±”ti. S±pi kho kum±rik± ujjh±yati khiyyati vip±ceti– “eva½ duggato hotu ayyo ud±y², eva½ dukkhito hotu ayyo ud±y², eva½ m± sukha½ labhatu ayyo ud±y², yath±ha½ duggat± dukkhit± na sukha½ labh±mi p±pik±ya sassuy± p±pakena sasurena p±pakena s±miken±”ti. Aññ±pi itthiyo asantuµµh± sass³hi v± sasurehi v± s±mikehi v±, t± eva½ oy±canti– “eva½ duggato hotu ayyo ud±y², eva½ dukkhito hotu ayyo ud±y², eva½ m± sukha½ labhatu ayyo ud±y², yath± maya½ duggat± dukkhit± na sukha½ labh±ma p±pik±hi sass³hi p±pakehi sasurehi p±pakehi s±mikeh²”ti. Y± pana t± itthiyo santuµµh± sass³hi v± sasurehi v± s±mikehi v± t± eva½ ±y±canti– “eva½ sukhito hotu ayyo ud±y², eva½ sajjito hotu ayyo ud±y², eva½ sukhamedho [sukhamedhito (s². ka.)] hotu ayyo ud±y², yath± maya½ sukhit± sajjit± sukhamedh± bhaddik±hi sass³hi bhaddakehi sasurehi bhaddakehi s±mikeh²”ti.

Ye te bhikkh³ appicch±…pe… te ujjh±yanti khiyyanti vip±centi– “kathañhi n±ma ±yasm± ud±y² sañcaritta½ sam±pajjissat²”ti! Atha kho te bhikkh³ ±yasmanta½ ud±yi½ anekapariy±yena vigarahitv± bhagavato etamattha½ ±rocesu½. Atha kho bhagav± etasmi½ nid±ne etasmi½ pakaraºe bhikkhusaªgha½ sannip±t±petv± ±yasmanta½ ud±yi½ paµipucchi– “sacca½ kira tva½, ud±yi, sañcaritta½ sam±pajjas²”ti? “Sacca½, bhagav±”ti. S± evam±ha– “aha½ khvayyo tumhe na j±n±mi– ‘ke v± ime kassa v±’ti. Ahañcamhi bahubhaº¹± bahuparikkh±r±, bahinagarañca gantabba½. N±ha½ gamiss±m²”ti. Atha kho so d³to tesa½ dhutt±na½ etamattha½ ±rocesi. Eva½ vutte, aññataro puriso te dhutte etadavoca– “kissa tumhe ayyo eta½ vesi½ y±cittha? Nanu ayyo ud±y² vattabbo! Ayyo ud±y² uyyojessat²”ti. Eva½ vutte, aññataro up±sako ta½ purisa½ etadavoca– “m±yyo eva½ avaca. Na kappati samaº±na½ sakyaputtiy±na½ evar³pa½ k±tu½. N±yyo ud±y² eva½ karissat²”ti.
