Tena kho pana samayena sambahul± sandiµµh± sambhatt± bhikkh³ vaggumud±ya nadiy± t²re vassa½ upagacchi½su. Tena kho pana samayena vajj² dubbhikkh± hoti dv²hitik± setaµµhik± sal±k±vutt±, na sukar± uñchena paggahena y±petu½. Atha kho tesa½ bhikkh³na½ etadahosi– “etarahi kho vajj² dubbhikkh± dv²hitik± setaµµhik± sal±k±vutt±, na sukar± uñchena paggahena y±petu½. Kena nu kho maya½ up±yena samagg± sammodam±n± avivadam±n± ph±suka½ vassa½ vaseyy±ma, na ca piº¹akena kilameyy±m±”ti? Ekacce evam±ha½su– “handa maya½, ±vuso, gih²na½ kammanta½ adhiµµhema, eva½ te amh±ka½ d±tu½ maññissanti. Eva½ maya½ samagg± sammodam±n± avivadam±n± ph±suka½ vassa½ vasiss±ma, na ca piº¹akena kilamiss±m±”ti. Ekacce evam±ha½su– “ala½, ±vuso, ki½ gih²na½ kammanta½ adhiµµhitena! Handa maya½ ±vuso, gih²na½ d³teyya½ har±ma, eva½ te amh±ka½ d±tu½ maññissanti. Eva½ maya½ samagg± sammodam±n± avivadam±n± ph±suka½ vassa½ vasiss±ma, na ca piº¹akena kilamiss±m±”ti. Ekacce evam±ha½su– “ala½, ±vuso, ki½ gih²na½ kammanta½ adhiµµhitena! Ki½ gih²na½ d³teyya½ haµena! Handa maya½, ±vuso, gih²na½ aññamaññassa uttarimanussadhammassa vaººa½ bh±siss±ma– ‘asuko bhikkhu paµhamassa jh±nassa l±bh², asuko bhikkhu dutiyassa jh±nassa l±bh², asuko bhikkhu tatiyassa jh±nassa l±bh², asuko bhikkhu catutthassa jh±nassa l±bh², asuko bhikkhu sot±panno, asuko bhikkhu sakad±g±m², asuko bhikkhu an±g±m², asuko bhikkhu arah±, asuko bhikkhu tevijjo, asuko bhikkhu cha¼abhiñño’ti. Eva½ te amh±ka½ d±tu½ maññissanti. Eva½ maya½ samagg± sammodam±n± avivadam±n± ph±suka½ vassa½ vasiss±ma, na ca piº¹akena kilamiss±m±”ti. “Esoyeva kho, ±vuso, seyyo yo amh±ka½ gih²na½ aññamaññassa uttarimanussadhammassa vaººo bh±sito”ti.
194. Atha kho te bhikkh³ gih²na½ aññamaññassa uttarimanussadhammassa vaººa½ bh±si½su– “asuko bhikkhu paµhamassa jh±nassa l±bh²…pe… asuko bhikkhu cha¼abhiñño”ti. Atha kho te manuss±– “l±bh± vata no, suladdha½ vata no, yesa½ vata no evar³p± bhikkh³ vassa½ upagat±; na vata no ito pubbe evar³p± bhikkh³ vassa½ upagat± yathayime bhikkh³ s²lavanto kaly±ºadhamm±”ti, te na t±dis±ni bhojan±ni attan± paribhuñjanti m±t±pit³na½ denti puttad±rassa denti d±sakammakaraporisassa denti mitt±macc±na½ denti ñ±tis±lohit±na½ denti, y±dis±ni bhikkh³na½ denti. Te na t±dis±ni kh±dan²y±ni s±yan²y±ni p±n±ni attan± kh±danti s±yanti pivanti m±t±pit³na½ denti puttad±rassa denti d±sakammakaraporisassa denti mitt±macc±na½ denti ñ±tis±lohit±na½ denti, y±dis±ni bhikkh³na½ denti. Atha kho te bhikkh³ vaººav± ahesu½ p²ºindriy± pasannamukhavaºº± vippasannachavivaºº±.
¾ciººa½ kho paneta½ vassa½vuµµh±na½ bhikkh³na½ bhagavanta½ dassan±ya upasaªkamitu½. Atha kho te bhikkh³ vassa½vuµµh± tem±saccayena sen±sana½ sa½s±metv± pattac²vara½ ±d±ya yena ves±l² tena pakkami½su. Anupubbena yena ves±l² mah±vana½ k³µ±g±ras±l± yena bhagav± tenupasaªkami½su; upasaªkamitv± bhagavanta½ abhiv±detv± ekamanta½ nis²di½su.
Tena kho pana samayena dis±su vassa½vuµµh± bhikkh³ kis± honti l³kh± dubbaºº± uppaº¹uppaº¹ukaj±t± dhamanisanthatagatt±; vaggumud±t²riy± pana bhikkh³ vaººav± honti p²ºindriy± pasannamukhavaºº± vippasannachavivaºº±. ¾ciººa½ kho paneta½ buddh±na½ bhagavant±na½ ±gantukehi bhikkh³hi saddhi½ paµisammoditu½. Atha kho bhagav± vaggumud±t²riye bhikkh³ etadavoca– “kacci, bhikkhave, khaman²ya½ kacci y±pan²ya½ kacci samagg± sammodam±n± avivadam±n± ph±suka½ vassa½ vasittha na ca piº¹akena kilamitth±”ti? “Khaman²ya½, bhagav±, y±pan²ya½, bhagav±. Samagg± ca maya½, bhante, sammodam±n± avivadam±n± ph±suka½ vassa½ vasimh±, na ca piº¹akena kilamimh±”ti. J±nant±pi tath±gat± pucchanti, j±nant±pi na pucchanti…pe… dv²h±k±rehi buddh± bhagavanto bhikkh³ paµipucchanti– dhamma½ v± desess±ma, s±vak±na½ v± sikkh±pada½ paññ±pess±m±ti. Atha kho bhagav± vaggumud±t²riye bhikkh³ etadavoca– “yath± katha½ pana tumhe, bhikkhave, samagg± sammodam±n± avivadam±n± ph±suka½ vassa½ vasittha na ca piº¹akena kilamitth±”ti? Atha kho te bhikkh³ bhagavato etamattha½ ±rocesu½ “kacci pana vo, bhikkhave, bh³tan”ti? “Abh³ta½, bhagav±”ti. Vigarahi buddho bhagav±– “ananucchavika½, moghapuris±, ananulomika½ appatir³pa½ ass±maºaka½ akappiya½ akaraº²ya½. Kathañhi n±ma tumhe, moghapuris±, udarassa k±raº± gih²na½ aññamaññassa uttarimanussadhammassa vaººa½ bh±sissatha! Vara½ tumhehi, moghapuris±, tiºhena govikantanena [govikattanena (s². ka.)] kucchi½ parikanto, na tveva udarassa k±raº± gih²na½ aññamaññassa uttarimanussadhammassa vaººo bh±sito! Ta½ kissa hetu? Tato nid±nañhi, moghapuris±, maraºa½ v± nigaccheyya maraºamatta½ v± dukkha½, na tveva tappaccay± k±yassa bhed± para½ maraº± ap±ya½ duggati½ vinip±ta½ niraya½ upapajjeya. Ito nid±nañca kho, moghapuris±, k±yassa bhed± para½ maraº± ap±ya½ duggati½ vinip±ta½ niraya½ upapajjeyya. Neta½, moghapuris±, appasann±na½ v± pas±d±ya”…pe… vigarahitv± dhammi½ katha½ katv± bhikkh³ ±mantesi–
195. “Pañcime, bhikkhave, mah±cor± santo sa½vijjam±n± lokasmi½. Katame pañca? Idha, bhikkhave, ekaccassa mah±corassa eva½ hoti– ‘kud±ssu n±m±ha½ satena v± sahassena v± parivuto g±manigamar±jadh±n²su ±hiº¹iss±mi hananto gh±tento chindanto ched±pento pacanto p±cento’ti! So aparena samayena satena v± sahassena v± parivuto g±manigamar±jadh±n²su ±hiº¹ati hananto gh±tento chindanto ched±pento pacanto p±cento. Evameva kho, bhikkhave, idhekaccassa p±pabhikkhuno eva½ hoti– ‘kud±ssu n±m±ha½ satena v± sahassena v± parivuto g±manigamar±jadh±n²su c±rika½ cariss±mi sakkato garukato m±nito p³jito apacito gahaµµh±nañceva pabbajit±nañca, l±bh² c²varapiº¹ap±tasen±sanagil±nappaccayabhesajjaparikkh±r±nan’ti So aparena samayena satena v± sahassena v± parivuto g±manigamar±jadh±n²su c±rika½ carati sakkato garukato m±nito p³jito apacito gahaµµh±nañceva pabbajit±nañca, l±bh² c²varapiº¹ap±tasen±sanagil±nappaccayabhesajjaparikkh±r±na½. Aya½, bhikkhave, paµhamo mah±coro santo sa½vijjam±no lokasmi½.
“Puna capara½, bhikkhave, idhekacco p±pabhikkhu tath±gatappavedita½ dhammavinaya½ pariy±puºitv± attano dahati. Aya½, bhikkhave, dutiyo mah±coro santo sa½vijjam±no lokasmi½.
“Puna capara½, bhikkhave, idhekacco p±pabhikkhu suddha½ brahmac±ri½ parisuddha½ brahmacariya½ caranta½ am³lakena abrahmacariyena anuddha½seti. Aya½, bhikkhave, tatiyo mah±coro santo sa½vijjam±no lokasmi½.
“Puna capara½, bhikkhave, idhekacco p±pabhikkhu y±ni t±ni saªghassa garubhaº¹±ni garuparikkh±r±ni, seyyathida½– ±r±mo ±r±mavatthu vih±ro vih±ravatthu mañco p²µha½ bhisi bimbohana½ [bimbohana½ (s². sy±.)] lohakumbh² lohabh±ºaka½ lohav±rako lohakaµ±ha½ v±s² parasu [pharasu (s². sy±.)] kuµh±r² kud±lo nikh±dana½ valli ve¼u muñja½ pabbaja½ tiºa½ mattik± d±rubhaº¹a½ mattik±bhaº¹a½, tehi gih²½ saªgaºh±ti upal±peti. Aya½, bhikkhave, catuttho mah±coro santo sa½vijjam±no lokasmi½.
“Sadevake, bhikkhave, loke sam±rake sabrahmake sassamaºabr±hmaºiy± paj±ya sadevamanuss±ya aya½ aggo mah±coro yo asanta½ abh³ta½ uttarimanussadhamma½ ullapati. Ta½ kissa hetu? Theyy±ya vo, bhikkhave, raµµhapiº¹o bhutto”ti.

nikacca kitavasseva, bhutta½ theyyena tassa ta½.

Atha kho bhagav± te vaggumud±t²riye bhikkh³ anekapariy±yena vigarahitv± dubbharat±ya dupposat±ya…pe… evañca pana, bhikkhave, ima½ sikkh±pada½ uddiseyy±tha–
“Yo pana bhikkhu anabhij±na½ uttarimanussadhamma½ attupan±yika½ alamariyañ±ºadassana½ samud±careyya– ‘iti j±n±mi iti pass±m²’ti, tato aparena samayena samanugg±h²yam±no v± asamanugg±h²yam±no v± ±panno visuddh±pekkho eva½ vadeyya– ‘aj±nameva½, ±vuso, avaca½ j±n±mi apassa½ pass±mi. Tuccha½ mus± vilapin’ti, ayampi p±r±jiko hoti asa½v±so”ti.
Evañcida½ bhagavat± bhikkh³na½ sikkh±pada½ paññatta½ hoti.
196. Tena kho pana samayena sambahul± bhikkh³ adiµµhe diµµhasaññino apatte pattasaññino anadhigate adhigatasaññino asacchikate sacchikatasaññino adhim±nena añña½ by±kari½su. Tesa½ aparena samayena r±g±yapi citta½ namati dos±yapi citta½ namati moh±yapi citta½ namati. Tesa½ kukkucca½ ahosi– “bhagavat± sikkh±pada½ paññatta½. Mayañcamha adiµµhe diµµhasaññino apatte pattasaññino anadhigate adhigatasaññino asacchikate sacchikatasaññino, adhim±nena añña½ by±karimh±. Kacci nu kho maya½ p±r±jika½ ±patti½ ±pann±”ti? Te ±yasmato ±nandassa etamattha½ ±rocesu½. ¾yasm± ±nando bhagavato etamattha½ ±rocesi. “Honti ye te, ±nanda [honti yev±nanda (sy±.), honti te ±nanda (s².)], bhikkh³ adiµµhe diµµhasaññino apatte pattasaññino anadhigate adhigatasaññino asacchikate sacchikatasaññino adhim±nena añña½ by±karonti. Tañca kho eta½ abboh±rikan”ti.
“Evañca pana, bhikkhave, ima½ sikkh±pada½ uddiseyy±tha–
197. “Yo pana bhikkhu anabhij±na½ uttarimanussadhamma½ attupan±yika½ alamariyañ±ºadassana½ samud±careyya– ‘iti j±n±mi iti pass±m²’ti, tato aparena samayena samanugg±h²yam±no v± asamanugg±h²yam±no v± ±panno visuddh±pekkho eva½ vadeyya– ‘aj±nameva½, ±vuso, avaca½ j±n±mi, apassa½ pass±mi. Tuccha½ mus± vilapin’ti, aññatra adhim±n±, ayampi p±r±jiko hoti asa½v±so”ti.
198. Yo pan±ti yo y±diso…pe… bhikkh³ti…pe… aya½ imasmi½ atthe adhippeto bhikkh³ti.
Anabhij±nanti asanta½ abh³ta½ asa½vijjam±na½ aj±nanto apassanto attani kusala½ dhamma½– atthi me kusalo dhammoti.
[P±ci. 70] uttarimanussadhammo n±ma jh±na½ vimokkho [vimokkha½ (s². sy±.)] sam±dhi sam±patti ñ±ºadassana½ maggabh±van± phalasacchikiriy± kilesappah±na½ vin²varaºat± cittassa suññ±g±re abhirati.
