Tena kho pana samayena bhagav± bhikkh³na½ anekapariy±yena asubhakatha½ katheti, asubh±ya vaººa½ bh±sati, asubhabh±van±ya vaººa½ bh±sati, ±dissa ±dissa asubhasam±pattiy± vaººa½ bh±sati. Atha kho bhagav± bhikkh³ ±mantesi– “icch±maha½, bhikkhave, addham±sa½ paµisall²yitu½. Namhi kenaci upasaªkamitabbo, aññatra ekena piº¹ap±tan²h±raken±”ti. “Eva½, bhante”ti, kho te bhikkh³ bhagavato paµissuºitv± n±ssudha koci bhagavanta½ upasaªkamati, aññatra ekena piº¹ap±tan²h±rakena. Bhikkh³– “bhagav± kho anekapariy±yena asubhakatha½ katheti, asubh±ya vaººa½ bh±sati, asubhabh±van±ya vaººa½ bh±sati, ±dissa ±dissa asubhasam±pattiy± vaººa½ bh±sat²”ti (te) [( ) (?) Atha kho migalaº¹iko samaºakuttako pattac²varehi bhaµo sambahule bhikkh³ j²vit± voropetv± lohitaka½ [lohitagata½ (ka.)] asi½ ±d±ya yena vaggamud± nad² tenupasaªkami.

Atha kho migalaº¹ikassa samaºakuttakassa lohitaka½ ta½ asi½ dhovantassa ahudeva kukkucca½ ahu vippaµis±ro– “al±bh± vata me, na vata me l±bh±; dulladdha½ vata me, na vata me suladdha½ Bahu½ vata may± apuñña½ pasuta½, yoha½ bhikkh³ s²lavante kaly±ºadhamme j²vit± voropesin”ti. Atha kho aññatar± m±rak±yik± devat± abhijjam±ne udake ±gantv± migalaº¹ika½ samaºakuttaka½ etadavoca– “s±dhu s±dhu sappurisa, l±bh± te sappurisa, suladdha½ te sappurisa. Bahu½ tay± sappurisa puñña½ pasuta½, ya½ tva½ atiººe t±res²”ti. Atha kho migalaº¹iko samaºakuttako– “l±bh± kira me, suladdha½ kira me, bahu½ kira may± puñña½ pasuta½, atiººo kir±ha½ t±rem²”ti tiºha½ asi½ ±d±ya vih±rena vih±ra½ pariveºena pariveºa½ upasaªkamitv± eva½ vadeti– “ko atiººo, ka½ t±rem²”ti? Tattha ye te bhikkh³ av²tar±g± tesa½ tasmi½ samaye hotiyeva bhaya½ hoti chambhitatta½ hoti lomaha½so. Ye pana te bhikkh³ v²tar±g± tesa½ tasmi½ samaye na hoti bhaya½ na hoti chambhitatta½ na hoti lomaha½so. Atha kho migalaº¹iko samaºakuttako ekampi bhikkhu½ ek±hena j²vit± voropesi, dvepi bhikkh³ ek±hena j²vit± voropesi, tayopi bhikkh³ ek±hena j²vit± voropesi, catt±ropi bhikkh³ ek±hena j²vit± voropesi, pañcapi bhikkh³ ek±hena j²vit± voropesi, dasapi bhikkh³ ek±hena j²vit± voropesi, v²sampi bhikkh³ ek±hena j²vit± voropesi, ti½sampi bhikkh³ ek±hena j²vit± voropesi, catt±l²sampi bhikkh³ ek±hena j²vit± voropesi, paññ±sampi bhikkh³ ek±hena j²vit± voropesi, saµµhimpi bhikkh³ ek±hena j²vit± voropesi.

Atha kho bhagav± tassa addham±sassa accayena paµisall±n± vuµµhito ±yasmanta½ ±nanda½ ±mantesi– “ki½ nu kho, ±nanda, tanubh³to viya bhikkhusaªgho”ti? “Tath± hi pana, bhante, bhagav± bhikkh³na½ anekapariy±yena asubhakatha½ katheti, asubh±ya vaººa½ bh±sati, asubhabh±van±ya vaººa½ bh±sati, ±dissa ±dissa asubhasam±pattiy± vaººa½ bh±sati. Te ca, bhante, bhikkh³– ‘bhagav± kho anekapariy±yena asubhakatha½ katheti, asubh±ya vaººa½ bh±sati, asubhabh±van±ya vaººa½ bh±sati, ±dissa ±dissa asubhasam±pattiy± vaººa½ bh±sat²’ti, te anek±k±ravok±ra½ asubhabh±van±nuyogamanuyutt± viharanti. 165. Atha kho bhagav± yena upaµµh±nas±l± tenupasaªkami; upasaªkamitv± paññatte ±sane nis²di. Nisajja kho bhagav± bhikkh³ ±mantesi– “ayampi kho, bhikkhave, ±n±p±nassatisam±dhi bh±vito bahul²kato santo ceva paº²to ca asecanako ca sukho ca vih±ro uppannuppanne ca p±pake akusale dhamme µh±naso antaradh±peti v³pasameti. Seyyath±pi, bhikkhave, gimh±na½ pacchime m±se uhata½ [³hata½ (ka.)] rajojalla½ tamena½ mah± ak±lamegho µh±naso antaradh±peti v³pasameti, evameva kho, bhikkhave, ±n±p±nassatisam±dhi bh±vito bahul²kato santo ceva paº²to ca asecanako ca sukho ca vih±ro uppannuppanne ca p±pake akusale dhamme µh±naso antaradh±peti v³pasameti. Katha½ bh±vito ca, bhikkhave, ±n±p±nassatisam±dhi katha½ bahul²kato santo ceva paº²to ca asecanako ca sukho ca vih±ro uppannuppanne ca p±pake akusale dhamme µh±naso antaradh±peti v³pasameti? Idha, bhikkhave, bhikkhu araññagato v± rukkham³lagato v± suññ±g±ragato v± nis²dati pallaªka½ ±bhujitv± uju½ k±ya½ paºidh±ya parimukha½ sati½ upaµµhapetv±. So satova assasati sato passasati. D²gha½ v± assasanto d²gha½ assas±m²ti paj±n±ti, d²gha½ v± passasanto d²gha½ passas±m²ti paj±n±ti. Rassa½ v± assasanto rassa½ assas±m²ti paj±n±ti, rassa½ v± passasanto rassa½ passas±m²ti paj±n±ti. Atha kho bhagav± etasmi½ nid±ne etasmi½ pakaraºe bhikkhusaªgha½ sannip±t±petv± bhikkh³ paµipucchi– “sacca½ kira, bhikkhave, bhikkh³ attan±pi att±na½ j²vit± voropenti, aññamaññampi j²vit± voropenti migalaº¹ikampi samaºakuttaka½ upasaªkamitv± eva½ vadanti– ‘s±dhu no, ±vuso j²vit± voropehi, ida½ te pattac²vara½ bhavissat²”’ti? “Sacca½, bhagav±”ti. Vigarahi buddho bhagav±– “ananucchavika½, bhikkhave, tesa½ bhikkh³na½ ananulomika½ appaµir³pa½ ass±maºaka½ akappiya½ akaraº²ya½. Kathañhi n±ma te, bhikkhave, bhikkh³ attan±pi att±na½ j²vit± voropessanti, aññamaññampi j²vit± voropessanti, migalaº¹ikampi samaºakuttaka½ upasaªkamitv± eva½ vakkhanti– ‘s±dhu no, ±vuso, j²vit± voropehi, ida½ te pattac²vara½ bhavissat²’ti. Neta½, bhikkhave, appasann±na½ v± pas±d±ya…pe… evañca pana, bhikkhave, ima½ sikkh±pada½ uddiseyy±tha–
167. “Yo pana bhikkhu sañcicca manussaviggaha½ j²vit± voropeyya satthah±raka½ v±ssa pariyeseyya, ayampi p±r±jiko hoti asa½v±so”ti.
Evañcida½ bhagavat± bhikkh³na½ sikkh±pada½ paññatta½ hoti.
168. Tena kho pana samayena aññataro up±sako gil±no hoti. Tassa paj±pati abhir³p± hoti dassan²y± p±s±dik±. Chabbaggiy± bhikkh³ tass± itthiy± paµibaddhacitt± honti. Atha kho chabbaggiy±na½ bhikkh³na½ etadahosi– “sace kho so, ±vuso up±sako j²vissati na maya½ ta½ itthi½ labhiss±ma. Handa maya½, ±vuso, tassa up±sakassa maraºavaººa½ sa½vaººem±”ti. Atha kho chabbaggiy± bhikkh³ yena so up±sako tenupasaªkami½su; upasaªkamitv± ta½ up±saka½ etadavocu½– “tva½ khosi, up±saka, katakaly±ºo katakusalo katabh²rutt±ºo akatap±po akataluddo akatakibbiso. Kata½ tay± kaly±ºa½, akata½ tay± p±pa½ Ki½ tuyhimin± p±pakena dujj²vitena! Mata½ te j²vit± seyyo. Ito tva½ k±laªkato k±yassa bhed± para½ maraº± sugati½ sagga½ loka½ upapajjissasi. Tattha dibbehi pañcahi k±maguºehi samappito samaªg²bh³to paric±ressas²”ti.
169. Atha kho so up±sako– “sacca½ kho ayy± ±ha½su. Ahañhi katakaly±ºo katakusalo katabh²rutt±ºo akatap±po akataluddo akatakibbiso. Kata½ may± kaly±ºa½, akata½ may± p±pa½ Ki½ mayhimin± p±pakena dujj²vitena! Mata½ me j²vit± seyyo. Ito aha½ k±laªkato k±yassa bhed± para½ maraº± sugati½ sagga½ loka½ upapajjiss±mi. Tattha dibbehi pañcahi k±maguºehi samappito samaªg²bh³to paric±ress±m²”ti, so asapp±y±ni ceva bhojan±ni bhuñji asapp±y±ni ca kh±dan²y±ni kh±di asapp±y±ni ca s±yan²y±ni s±yi asapp±y±ni ca p±n±ni pivi. Tassa asapp±y±ni ceva bhojan±ni bhuñjato asapp±y±ni ca kh±dan²y±ni kh±dato asapp±y±ni ca s±yan²y±ni s±yato asapp±y±ni ca p±n±ni pivato kharo ±b±dho uppajji. So teneva ±b±dhena k±lamak±si. Tassa paj±pati ujjh±yati khiyyati vip±ceti– “alajjino ime samaº± sakyaputtiy± duss²l± mus±v±dino. Ime hi n±ma dhammac±rino samac±rino brahmac±rino saccav±dino s²lavanto kaly±ºadhamm± paµij±nissanti! Natthi imesa½ s±mañña½ natthi imesa½ brahmañña½, naµµha½ imesa½ s±mañña½ naµµha½ imesa½ brahmañña½, kuto imesa½ s±mañña½ kuto imesa½ brahmañña½, apagat± ime s±maññ± apagat± ime brahmaññ±. Ime me s±mikassa maraºavaººa½ sa½vaººesu½. Imehi me s±miko m±rito”ti. Aññepi manuss± ujjh±yanti khiyyanti vip±centi– “alajjino ime samaº± sakyaputtiy± duss²l± mus±v±dino. Ime hi n±ma dhammac±rino samac±rino brahmac±rino saccav±dino s²lavanto kaly±ºadhamm± paµij±nissanti! Natthi imesa½ s±mañña½ natthi imesa½ brahmañña½, naµµha½ imesa½ s±mañña½ naµµha½ imesa½ brahmañña½, kuto imesa½ s±mañña½ kuto imesa½ brahmañña½, apagat± ime s±maññ± apagat± ime brahmaññ±. Ime up±sakassa maraºavaººa½ sa½vaººesu½. Imehi up±sako m±rito”ti. Assosu½ kho bhikkh³ tesa½ manuss±na½ ujjh±yant±na½ khiyyant±na½ vip±cent±na½. Ye te bhikkh³ appicch±…pe… te ujjh±yanti khiyyanti vip±centi– “kathañhi n±ma chabbaggiy± bhikkh³ up±sakassa maraºavaººa½ sa½vaººissant²”ti!
