Tena vutta½– “ekadivasa½ r±j± s²hapañjare µhito addasa nigrodhas±maºera½ r±jaªgaºena gacchanta½ danta½ gutta½ santindriya½ iriy±pathasampannan”ti. Disv± panassa etadahosi– “aya½ jano sabbopi vikkhittacitto bhantamigappaµibh±go. Aya½ pana d±rako avikkhittacitto ativiya cassa ±lokitavilokita½ samiñjanapas±raºañca sobhati. Addh± etassa abbhantare lokuttaradhammo bhavissat²”ti rañño saha dassaneneva s±maºere citta½ pas²di, pema½ saºµhahi. Kasm±? Pubbe hi kira puññakaraºak±le esa rañño jeµµhabh±t± v±ºijako ahosi. Kassa paricc±go mahantoti? Bhikkhusaªgho moggaliputtatissattherassa bh±ra½ ak±si. Thero ±ha– “mah±r±ja, dasabalassa s±sane paccayad±yako n±ma tay± sadiso dharam±nepi tath±gate na koci ahosi, taveva paricc±go mah±”ti. R±j± therassa vacana½ sutv± u¼±rena p²tip±mojjena nirantara½ phuµµhasar²ro hutv± cintesi– “natthi kira may± sadiso paccayad±yako, mayha½ kira paricc±go mah±, aha½ kira deyyadhammena s±sana½ paggaºh±mi. Ki½ pan±ha½ eva½ sati s±sanassa d±y±do homi, na hom²”ti. Tato bhikkhusaªgha½ pucchi– “bhav±mi nu kho aha½, bhante, s±sanassa d±y±do”ti?
Tato moggaliputtatissatthero rañño ida½ vacana½ sutv± r±japuttassa mahindassa upanissayasampatti½ sampassam±no “sace aya½ kum±ro pabbajissati s±sanassa ativiya vu¹¹hi bhavissat²”ti cintetv± r±j±na½ etadavoca– “na kho, mah±r±ja, ett±vat± s±sanassa d±y±do hoti; apica kho paccayad±yakoti v± upaµµh±koti v± saªkhya½ gacchati. Yopi hi, mah±r±ja, pathavito y±va brahmalokaparim±ºa½ paccayar±si½ dadeyya sopi ‘s±sane d±y±do’ti saªkhya½ na gacchat²”ti. “Atha katha½ carahi, bhante, s±sanassa d±y±do hot²”ti? “Yo hi koci, mah±r±ja, a¹¹ho v± daliddo v± attano orasa½ putta½ pabb±jeti– aya½ vuccati, mah±r±ja, d±y±do s±sanass±”ti.
Eva½ vutte asoko r±j± “aha½ kira evar³pa½ paricc±ga½ katv±pi neva s±sanassa d±y±dabh±va½ patto”ti s±sane d±y±dabh±va½ patthayam±no ito cito ca viloketv± addasa mahindakum±ra½ avid³re µhita½. Disv±nassa etadahosi– “kiñc±pi aha½ ima½ kum±ra½ tissakum±rassa pabbajitak±lato pabhuti oparajje µhapetuk±mo, atha kho oparajjatopi pabbajj±va uttam±”ti. Tato kum±ra½ ±ha– “sakkhasi tva½, t±ta, pabbajitun”ti? Kum±ro pakatiy±pi tissakum±rassa pabbajitak±lato pabhuti pabbajituk±mova rañño vacana½ sutv± ativiya p±mojjaj±to hutv± ±ha– “pabbaj±mi, deva, ma½ pabb±jetv± tumhe s±sanad±y±d± hoth±”ti.
Tena ca samayena r±jadh²t± saªghamitt±pi tasmi½yeva µh±ne µhit± hoti. Tass± ca s±miko aggibrahm± n±ma kum±ro yuvar±jena tissakum±rena saddhi½ pabbajito hoti. R±j± ta½ disv± ±ha– “tvampi, amma, pabbajitu½ sakkhas²”ti? “S±dhu, t±ta, sakkom²”ti. R±j± putt±na½ mana½ labhitv± pahaµµhacitto bhikkhusaªgha½ etadavoca– “bhante, ime d±rake pabb±jetv± ma½ s±sane d±y±da½ karoth±”ti. Saªgho rañño vacana½ sampaµicchitv± kum±ra½ moggaliputtatissattherena upajjh±yena mah±devattherena ca ±cariyena pabb±jesi. Majjhantikattherena ±cariyena upasamp±desi. Tad± kira kum±ro paripuººav²sativassova hoti. So tasmi½yeva upasampadas²mamaº¹ale saha paµisambhid±hi arahatta½ p±puºi. Saªghamitt±yapi r±jadh²t±ya ±cariy± ±yup±litther² n±ma, upajjh±y± pana dhammap±litther² n±ma ahosi. Tad± saªghamitt± aµµh±rasavass± hoti. Ta½ pabbajitamatta½ tasmi½yeva s²mamaº¹ale sikkh±ya patiµµh±pesu½. Ubhinna½ pabbajitak±le r±j± chabbass±bhiseko hoti.
