Tena hi “ahampi gacch±m²”ti gantv± catubbidh±ya paris±ya parivuta½ brahmassarena dhamma½ desenta½ bhagavanta½ addasa. Tena vutta½– “addasa kho…pe… desentan”ti. Disv±nass±ti disv±na assa. Etadahos²ti pubbe katapuññat±ya codiyam±nassa bhabbakulaputtassa eta½ ahosi. Ki½ ahosi? Ya½n³n±hampi dhamma½ suºeyyanti Tattha yann³n±ti parivitakkadassanameta½. Eva½ kirassa parivitakko uppanno “yamaya½ paris± ekaggacitt± dhamma½ suº±ti, aho vat±hampi ta½ suºeyyan”ti.
Atha kho sudinno kalandaputto yena s± paris±ti idha kasm± “yena bhagav±”ti avatv± “yena s± paris±”ti vuttanti ce. Bhagavantañhi pariv±retv± u¼±ru¼±rajan± mahat² paris± nisinn±, tatra na sakk± imin± pacch± ±gatena bhagavanta½ upasaªkamitv± nis²ditu½. Paris±ya pana ekasmi½ padese sakk±ti so ta½ parisa½yeva upasaªkamanto. Tena vutta½ “atha kho sudinno kalandaputto yena s± paris±”ti. Ekamanta½ nisinnassa kho sudinnassa kalandaputtassa etadahos²ti na nisinnamattasseva ahosi, atha kho bhagavato sittay³pasa½hita½ thoka½ dhammakatha½ sutv±; ta½ panassa yasm± ekamanta½ nisinnasseva ahosi. Tena vutta½– “ekamanta½ nisinnassa kho sudinnassa kalandaputtassa etadahos²”ti. Ki½ ahos²ti? Yath± yath± khoti-±di.
Tatr±ya½ saªkhepakath±– aha½ kho yena yena ±k±rena bhagavat± dhamma½ desita½ ±j±n±mi, tena tena me upaparikkhato eva½ hoti yadeta½ sittayabrahmacariya½ ekampi divasa½ akhaº¹a½ katv± carimakacitta½ p±petabbat±ya ekantaparipuººa½ caritabba½, ekadivasampi ca kilesamalena amal²na½ katv± carimakacitta½ p±petabbat±ya ekantaparisuddha½. Saªkhalikhita½ likhitasaªkhasadisa½ dhotasaªkhasappaµibh±ga½ caritabba½. Ida½ na sukara½ ag±ra½ ajjh±vasat± ag±ramajjhe vasantena ekantaparipuººa½…pe… caritu½. Ya½n³n±ha½ kese ca massuñca oh±retv± kas±yarasap²tat±ya k±s±y±ni brahmacariya½ carant±na½ anucchavik±ni vatth±ni acch±detv± paridahitv± ag±rasm± nikkhamitv± anag±riya½ pabbajeyyanti. Ettha ca yasm± ag±rassa hita½ kasiv±ºijj±dikamma½ ag±riyanti vuccati, tañca pabbajj±ya natthi; tasm± pabbajj± “anag±riy±”ti ñ±tabb±. Ta½ anag±riya½ pabbajja½. Pabbajeyyanti paribbajeyya½.
25. Aciravuµµhit±ya paris±ya yena bhagav± tenupasaªkam²ti sudinno avuµµhit±ya paris±ya na bhagavanta½ pabbajja½ y±ci. Kasm±? Tatrassa bah³ ñ±tis±lohit± mitt±macc± santi, te “‘tva½ m±t±pit³na½ ekaputtako, na labbh± tay± pabbajitun’ti b±h±yampi gahetv± ±ka¹¹heyyu½, tato pabbajj±ya antar±yo bhavissat²”ti saheva paris±ya uµµhahitv± thoka½ gantv± puna kenaci sar²rakiccalesena nivattitv± bhagavanta½ upasaªkamma pabbajja½ y±ci. Tena vutta½– “atha kho sudinno kalandaputto aciravuµµhit±ya paris±ya…pe… pabb±jetu ma½ bhagav±”ti.
Bhagav± pana yasm± r±hulakum±rassa pabbajitato pabhuti m±t±pit³hi ananuññ±ta½ putta½ na pabb±jeti, tasm± na½ pucchi– “anuññ±tosi pana tva½ sudinna m±t±pit³hi…pe… pabbajj±y±”ti.

Ito para½ p±µh±nus±reneva gantv± ta½ karaº²ya½ t²retv±ti ettha evamattho veditabbo– dhuranikkhepeneva ta½ karaº²ya½ niµµh±petv±ti; na hi pabbajj±ya tibbacchandassa bhaº¹appayojana-uddh±ras±raº±d²su v± nakkhattak²¼±ya½ v± citta½ namati. Amma t±t±ti ettha pana amm±ti m±tara½ ±lapati; t±t±ti pitara½. Tva½ khos²ti tva½ kho asi. Ekaputtakoti ekova puttako; añño te jeµµho v± kaniµµho v± natthi. Ettha ca “ekaputto”ti vattabbe anukamp±vasena “ekaputtako”ti vutta½. Piyoti p²tijananako. Man±poti manava¹¹hanako. Sukhedhitoti sukhena edhito; sukhasa½va¹¹hitoti attho. Sukhaparihatoti sukhena parihato; j±tak±lato pabhuti dh±t²hi aªkato aªka½ haritv± dh±riyam±no assakarathak±d²hi b±lak²¼anakehi k²¼am±no s±durasabhojana½ bhojiyam±no sukhena parihato.
Na tva½, t±ta sudinna, kiñci dukkhassa j±n±s²ti tva½ t±ta sudinna kiñci appamattakampi kalabh±ga½ dukkhassa na j±n±si; atha v± kiñci dukkhena n±nubhos²ti attho. Karaºatthe s±mivacana½, anubhavanatthe ca j±nan±; atha v± kiñci dukkha½ nassaras²ti attho. Upayogatthe s±mivacana½, saraºatthe ca j±nan±. Vikappadvayepi purimapadassa uttarapadena sam±navibhattilopo daµµhabbo. Ta½ sabba½ saddasatth±nus±rena ñ±tabba½. Maraºenapi maya½ te ak±mak± vin± bhaviss±m±ti sacepi tava amhesu j²vam±nesu maraºa½ bhaveyya, tena te maraºenapi maya½ ak±mak± anicchak± na attano ruciy±, vin± bhaviss±ma; tay± viyoga½ v± p±puºiss±m±ti attho. Ki½ pana maya½ tanti eva½ sante ki½ pana ki½ n±ma ta½ k±raºa½ yena maya½ ta½ j²vanta½ anuj±niss±ma; atha v± ki½ pana maya½ tanti kena pana k±raºena maya½ ta½ j²vanta½ anuj±niss±m±ti evamettha attho daµµhabbo.
27. Tatthev±ti yattha na½ µhita½ m±t±pitaro n±nuj±ni½su, tattheva µh±ne. Anantarahit±y±ti kenaci attharaºena anatthat±ya.
28. Paric±reh²ti gandhabbanaµan±µak±d²ni paccupaµµh±petv± tattha sah±yakehi saddhi½ yath±sukha½ indriy±ni c±rehi sañc±rehi; ito cito ca upaneh²ti vutta½ hoti. Atha v± paric±reh²ti gandhabbanaµan±µak±d²ni paccupaµµh±petv± tattha sah±yakehi saddhi½ la¼a, upala¼a, rama, k²¼ass³tipi vutta½ hoti. K±me paribhuñjantoti attano puttad±rehi saddhi½ bhoge bhuñjanto. Puññ±ni karontoti buddhañca dhammañca saªghañca ±rabbha d±nappad±n±d²ni sugatimaggasodhak±ni kusalakamm±ni karonto. Tuºh² ahos²ti kath±nuppabandhavicchedanattha½ nir±l±pasall±po ahosi. Athassa m±t±pitaro tikkhattu½ vatv± paµivacanampi alabham±n± sah±yake pakkos±petv± “esa vo sah±yako pabbajituk±mo, niv±retha nan”ti ±ha½su. Tepi ta½ upasaªkamitv± tikkhattu½ avocu½, tesampi tuºh² ahosi. Tena vutta½– “atha kho sudinnassa kalandaputtassa sah±yak±…pe… tuºh² ahos²”ti.
29. Athassa sah±yak±na½ etadahosi– “sace aya½ pabbajja½ alabham±no marissati na koci guºo bhavissati. Pabbajita½ pana na½ m±t±pitaropi k±lena k±la½ passissanti. Mayampi passiss±ma. Pabbajj±pi ca n±mes± bh±riy±, divase divase mattik±patta½ gahetv± piº¹±ya caritabba½. Ekaseyya½ ekabhatta½ brahmacariya½ atidukkara½. Ayañca sukhum±lo n±garikaj±tiyo, so ta½ caritu½ asakkonto puna idheva ±gamissati. Handassa m±t±pitaro anuj±n±pess±m±”ti. Te tath± aka½su. M±t±pitaropi na½ anuj±ni½su. Tena vutta½– “atha kho sudinnassa kalandaputtassa sah±yak± yena sudinnassa kalandaputtassa m±t±pitaro…pe… anuññ±tosi m±t±pit³hi ag±rasm± anag±riya½ pabbajj±y±”ti.
30. Haµµhoti tuµµho. Udaggoti p²tivasena abbhunnatak±yacitto. Katip±hanti katipay±ni divas±ni. Bala½ g±hetv±ti sapp±yabhojan±ni bhuñjanto, ucch±dananh±pan±d²hi ca k±ya½ pariharanto, k±yabala½ janetv± m±t±pitaro vanditv± assumukha½ ñ±tiparivaµµa½ pah±ya yena bhagav± tenupasaªkami…pe… pabb±jetu ma½ bhante bhagav±ti. Bhagav± sam²pe µhita½ aññatara½ piº¹ac±rika½ bhikkhu½ ±mantesi– “tena hi bhikkhu sudinna½ pabb±jehi ceva upasamp±dehi c±”ti. “S±dhu, bhante”ti kho so bhikkhu bhagavato paµissuºitv± sudinna½ kalandaputta½ jinadattiya½ saddhivih±rika½ laddh± pabb±jesi ceva upasamp±desi ca. Tena vutta½– “alattha kho sudinno kalandaputto bhagavato santike pabbajja½, alattha upasampadan”ti.
Ettha pana µhatv± sabba-aµµhakath±su pabbajj± ca upasampad± ca kathit±. Maya½ pana yath±µhitap±¼ivaseneva khandhake kathayiss±ma. Na kevalañceta½, aññampi ya½ khandhake v± pariv±re v± kathetabba½ aµµhakath±cariyehi vibhaªgekathita½, ta½ sabba½ tattha tattheva kathayiss±ma. Evañhi kathiyam±ne p±¼ikkameneva vaººan± kat± hoti. Tato tena tena vinicchayena atthik±na½ p±¼ikkameneva ima½ vinayasa½vaººana½ oloketv± so so vinicchayo suviññeyyo bhavissat²ti.
Acir³pasampannoti acira½ upasampanno hutv±; upasampadato nacirak±leyev±ti vutta½ hoti. Evar³peti eva½vidhe eva½j±tike. Dhutaguºeti kilesaniddhunanake guºe. Sam±d±ya vattat²ti sam±diyitv± gaºhitv± vattati carati viharati. ¾raññiko hot²ti g±mantasen±sana½ paµikkhipitv± ±raññikadhutaªgavasena araññav±siko hoti. Piº¹ap±tikoti atirekal±bhapaµikkhepena cuddasa bhatt±ni paµikkhipitv± piº¹ap±tikadhutaªgavasena piº¹ap±tiko hoti. Pa½suk³likoti gahapatic²vara½ paµikkhipitv± pa½suk³likadhutaªgavasena pa½suk³liko hoti. Sapad±nac±rikoti loluppac±ra½ paµikkhipitv± sapad±nac±rikadhutaªgavasena sapad±nac±riko hoti; gharapaµip±µiy± bhikkh±ya pavisati. Vajjig±manti vajj²na½ g±ma½ vajj²su v± g±ma½.
A¹¹h± mahaddhan±ti-±d²su upabhogaparibhog³pakaraºamahantat±ya a¹¹h±; ye hi tesa½ upabhog± y±ni ca upabhog³pakaraº±ni, t±ni mahant±ni bahul±ni s±rak±n²ti vutta½ hoti. Nidhetv± µhapitadhanamahantat±ya mahaddhan±. Mah±bhog±ti divasaparibbayasaªkh±tabhogamahantat±ya mah±bhog±. Aññehi upabhogehi j±tar³parajatasseva pah³tat±ya pah³taj±tar³parajat±. Alaªk±rabh³tassa vitt³pakaraºassa p²tip±mojjakaraºassa pah³tat±ya pah³tavitt³pakaraº±. Voh±ravasena parivattentassa dhanadhaññassa pah³tat±ya pah³tadhanadhaññ±ti veditabb±.
