Mah±padumatthero pan±ha– “etampi so¼asavidh±ya paññ±ya matthaka½ pattassa aggas±vakassa na bh±riya½, samm±sambuddhena pana saddhi½ ekaµµh±ne vasantassa saya½ vinicchayakaraºa½ tula½ cha¹¹etv± hatthena tulanasadisa½ hot²ti bhagavanta½yeva upasaªkamitv± pucch²”ti. Hetu paccayoti ubhayameta½ k±raº±dhivacana½; k±raºañhi yasm± tena tassa phala½ hinoti pavattati, tasm± het³ti vuccati. Yasm± ta½ paµicca eti pavattati, tasm± paccayoti vuccati. Yath± pana amh±ka½ bhagav± mah±samudda½ p³rayam±no viya vitth±rena dhamma½ desesi, eva½ te na desesu½. Kasm±? Satt±na½ apparajakkhat±ya. Tesa½ kira k±le d²gh±yuk± satt± apparajakkh± ahesu½. Te catusaccapaµisa½yutta½ ekag±thampi sutv± dhamma½ abhisamenti, tasm± na vitth±rena dhamma½ desesu½. Teneva k±raºena appakañca nesa½ ahosi sutta½…pe… vedallanti. Tattha sutt±d²na½ n±natta½ paµhamasaªg²tivaººan±ya½ vuttameva.
Apaññatta½ s±vak±na½ sikkh±padanti s±vak±na½ niddosat±ya dos±nur³pato paññapetabba½ satt±pattikkhandhavasena ±º±sikkh±pada½ apaññatta½. Anuddiµµha½ p±timokkhanti anvaddham±sa½ ±º±p±timokkha½ anuddiµµha½ ahosi. Ov±dap±timokkhameva te uddisi½su; tampi ca no anvaddham±sa½. Tad± kira jambud²pe catur±s²tivih±rasahass±ni honti. Ekamekasmi½ vih±re abbokiºº±ni dasapi v²satipi bhikkhusahass±ni vasanti, bhiyyopi vasanti. Uposath±rocik± devat± tattha tattha gantv± ±rocenti– “m±ris±, eka½ vassa½ atikkanta½, dve t²ºi catt±ri pañca vass±ni atikkant±ni, ida½ chaµµha½ vassa½, ±g±miniy± puººam±siy± buddhadassanattha½ uposathakaraºatthañca gantabba½!
