Dutiya½– m±tulabh±gineyy±na½ n±gar±j³na½ damanatth±ya ekakova ±gantv± te dametv± agam±si. Tatiya½– pańcabhikkhusatapariv±ro ±gantv± mah±cetiyaµµh±ne ca th³p±r±macetiyaµµh±ne ca mah±bodhipatiµµhitaµµh±ne ca mahiyaŖgaŗacetiyaµµh±ne ca mutiyaŖgaŗacetiyaµµh±ne ca d²ghav±picetiyaµµh±ne ca kaly±ŗiyacetiyaµµh±ne ca nirodhasam±patti½ sam±pajjitv± nis²di. Idamassa catuttha½ dh±tusar²rena ±gamana½.
Dh±tusar²rato ca panassa nikkhanta-udakaphusitehi sakalatambapaŗŗitale na koci aphuµµhok±so n±ma ahosi. Evamassa ta½ dh±tusar²ra½ udakaphusitehi tambapaŗŗitalassa pari¼±ha½ v³pasametv± mah±janassa p±µih±riya½ dassetv± otaritv± rańńo matthake patiµµh±si R±j± saphala½ manussapaµil±bha½ mańńam±no mahanta½ sakk±ra½ karitv± dh±tu½ patiµµh±pesi. Saha dh±tupatiµµh±panena mah±bh³mic±lo ahosi. Tasmińca pana dh±tup±µih±riye citta½ pas±detv± rańńo bh±t± abhayo n±ma r±jakum±ro purisasahassena saddhi½ pabbaji. Cetaraµµhag±mato pańca d±rakasat±ni pabbaji½su, tath± dv±ramaŗ¹al±d²hi g±makehi nikkhamitv± pańcapańca d±rakasat±ni sabb±nipi antonagarato ca bahinagarato ca pabbajit±ni ti½sabhikkhusahass±ni ahesu½. Niµµhite pana th³pasmi½ r±j± ca r±jabh±tik± ca deviyo ca devan±gayakkh±nampi vimhayakara½ pacceka½ pacceka½ p³ja½ aka½su. Niµµhit±ya pana dh±tup³j±ya patiµµhite dh±tuvare mahindatthero meghavanuyy±nameva gantv± v±sa½ kappesi.
Tasmi½ kho pana samaye anu¼± dev² pabbajituk±m± hutv± rańńo ±rocesi. R±j± tass± vacana½ sutv± thera½ etadavoca– “anu¼±, bhante, dev² pabbajituk±m±, pabb±jetha nan”ti. “Na, mah±r±ja, amh±ka½ m±tug±ma½ pabb±jetu½ kappati. P±µaliputte pana mayha½ bhagin² saŖghamittatther² n±ma atthi, ta½ pakkos±pehi. Imasmińca pana, mah±r±ja, d²pe purimak±na½ tiŗŗa½ samm±sambuddh±na½ bodhi patiµµh±si. Amh±kampi bhagavato sarasara½sij±lavissajjanakena bodhin± idha patiµµh±tabba½, tasm± tath± s±sana½ pahiŗeyy±si yath± saŖghamitt± bodhi½ gahetv± ±gaccheyy±”ti.
“S±dhu, bhante”ti r±j± therassa vacana½ sampaµicchitv± amaccehi saddhi½ mantento ariµµha½ n±ma attano bh±gineyya½ ±ha– “sakkhissasi tva½, t±ta, p±µaliputta½ gantv± mah±bodhin± saddhi½ ayya½ saŖghamittattheri½ ±netun”ti? “Sakkhiss±mi, deva, sace me pabbajja½ anuj±nissas²”ti. “Gaccha, t±ta theri½ ±netv± pabbaj±h²”ti. So rańńo ca therassa ca s±sana½ gahetv± therassa adhiµµh±navasena ekadivaseneva jambukolapaµµana½ gantv± n±va½ abhiruhitv± samudda½ atikkamitv± p±µaliputtameva agam±si. Anu¼±pi kho dev² pańcahi kańń±satehi pańcahi ca antepurik±satehi saddhi½ dasa s²l±ni sam±diyitv± k±s±y±ni vatth±ni acch±detv± nagarassa ekadese upassaya½ k±r±petv± niv±sa½ kappesi. Ariµµhopi ta½divasameva rańńo s±sana½ appesi, evańca avoca– “putto te, deva, mahindatthero evam±ha– ‘sah±yakassa kira te dev±nampiyatissassa rańńo bh±tu j±y± anu¼± n±ma dev² pabbajituk±m± ta½ pabb±jetu½ ayya½ saŖghamittattheri½ pahiŗatha, ayy±yeva ca saddhi½ mah±bodhi”n’ti. Therassa s±sana½ ±rocetv± saŖghamittattheri½ upasaŖkamitv± evam±ha– “ayye, tumh±ka½ bh±t± mahindatthero ma½ tumh±ka½ santika½ pesesi, dev±nampiyatissassa rańńo bh±tu j±y± anu¼± n±ma dev² pańcahi kańń±satehi, pańcahi ca antepurik±satehi saddhi½ pabbajituk±m±, ta½ kira ±gantv± pabb±jeth±”ti. S± t±vadeva turitaturit± rańńo santika½ gantv± evam±ha– “mah±r±ja, mayha½ bh±t± mahindatthero eva½ pahiŗi, ‘rańńo kira bh±tu j±y± anu¼± n±ma dev² pańcahi kańń±satehi pańcahi ca antepurik±satehi saddhi½ pabbajituk±m± mayha½ ±gamana½ udikkhati’. Gacch±maha½, mah±r±ja, tambapaŗŗid²pan”ti.
R±j± ±ha– “amma, puttopi me mahindatthero natt± ca me sumanas±maŗero ma½ chinnahattha½ viya karont± tambapaŗŗid²pa½ gat±. Tassa mayha½ tepi apassantassa uppanno soko tava mukha½ passantassa v³pasammati! Ala½, amma, m± tva½ agam±s²”ti. “Bh±riya½ me, mah±r±ja, bh±tu vacana½; anu¼±pi khattiy± itthisahassaparivut± pabbajj±purekkh±r± ma½ paµim±neti; gacch±maha½, mah±r±j±”ti. “Tena hi, amma, mah±bodhi½ gahetv± gacch±h²”ti. Kuto rańńo mah±bodhi? R±j± kira tato pubbe eva dh±tuggahaŗatth±ya an±gate sumane laŖk±d²pa½ mah±bodhi½ pesetuk±mo, “katha½ nu kho asatthagh±t±raha½ mah±bodhi½ pesess±m²”ti up±ya½ apassanto mah±deva½ n±ma amacca½ pucchi. So ±ha– “santi, deva, bah³ paŗ¹it± bhikkh³”ti. Ta½ sutv± r±j± bhikkhusaŖghassa bhatta½ paµiy±detv± bhattakicc±vas±ne saŖgha½ pucchi– “gantabba½ nu kho, bhante, bhagavato mah±bodhin± laŖk±d²pa½ no”ti? SaŖgho moggaliputtatissattherassa bh±ra½ ak±si.
Thero “gantabba½, mah±r±ja, mah±bodhin± laŖk±d²pan”ti vatv± bhagavato pańca mah±-adhiµµh±n±ni kathesi. Katam±ni pańca? Bhagav± kira mah±parinibb±namańce nipanno laŖk±d²pe mah±bodhipatiµµh±panatth±ya “asokamah±r±j± mah±bodhiggahaŗattha½ gamissati, tad± mah±bodhissa dakkhiŗas±kh± sayameva chijjitv± suvaŗŗakaµ±he patiµµh±t³”ti adhiµµh±si– idamekamadhiµµh±na½.
Tattha patiµµh±nak±le ca “mah±bodhi himaval±hakagabbha½ pavisitv± patiµµh±t³”ti adhiµµh±si– ida½ dutiyamadhiµµh±na½.
“Sattame divase himaval±hakagabbhato oruyha suvaŗŗakaµ±he patiµµhahanto pattehi ca phalehi ca chabbaŗŗara½siyo muńcat³”ti adhiµµh±si– ida½ tatiyamadhiµµh±na½.
“Th³p±r±me dakkhiŗakkhakadh±tu cetiyamhi patiµµh±nadivase yamakap±µih±riya½ karot³”ti adhiµµh±si– ida½ catuttha½ adhiµµh±na½.
LaŖk±d²pamhiyeva me doŗamatt± dh±tuyo mah±cetiyamhi patiµµh±nak±le buddhavesa½ gahetv± veh±sa½ abbhuggantv± yamakap±µih±riya½ karont³”ti adhiµµh±si– ida½ pańcama½ adhiµµh±nanti.
R±j± im±ni pańca mah±-adhiµµh±n±ni sutv± pasannacitto p±µaliputtato y±va mah±bodhi t±va magga½ paµijagg±petv± suvaŗŗakaµ±hatth±ya bahu½ suvaŗŗa½ n²har±pesi. T±vadeva ca rańńo citta½ ńatv± vissakammadevaputto kamm±ravaŗŗa½ nimminitv± purato aµµh±si. R±j± ta½ disv± “t±ta, ima½ suvaŗŗa½ gahetv± kaµ±ha½ karoh²”ti ±ha. “Pam±ŗa½, deva, j±n±th±”ti? “Tvameva, t±ta, ńatv± karoh²”ti. “S±dhu, deva, kariss±m²”ti suvaŗŗa½ gahetv± attano ±nubh±vena hatthena parimajjitv± suvaŗŗakaµ±ha½ nimmini navahatthaparikkhepa½ pańcahatthubbedha½ tihatthavikkhambha½ aµµhaŖgulabahala½ hatthisoŗ¹appam±ŗamukhavaµµi½. Atha r±j± m³lalekh±ya upari tivaŖgulappadese ańńa½ lekha½ paricchindi. Tato t±vadeva pupphu¼ak± hutv± dasa mah±m³l±ni nikkhami½su. Puna upar³pari tivaŖgule tivaŖgule ańń± nava lekh± paricchindi. T±hipi dasa dasa pupphu¼ak± hutv± navuti m³l±ni nikkhami½su. Paµhamak± dasa mah±m³l± caturaŖgulamatta½ nikkhant±. Itarepi gavakkhaj±lasadisa½ anusibbant± nikkhant±. Pańcasu s±kh±su phalato phalato chabbaŗŗara½siyo nikkhamitv± sakalacakkav±¼a½ ratanagop±nas²vinaddha½ viya kurum±n± y±va brahmalok± abbhuggacchi½su. Vigatahimaval±hake vippasanne cakkav±¼agabbhe mah±bodhi paripuŗŗakhandhas±kh±pas±kho pańcaphalapaµimaŗ¹ito suvaŗŗakaµ±he patiµµhitova pańń±yittha. R±j± mah±bodhi½ disv± tehi p±µih±riyehi sańj±tap²tip±mojjo “sakalajambud²parajjena taruŗamah±bodhi½ p³jess±m²”ti abhiseka½ datv± satta divas±ni mah±bodhiµµh±neyeva aµµh±si.
Mah±bodhi pubbakattikapav±raŗ±divase s±yanhasamaye paµhama½ suvaŗŗakaµ±he patiµµhahi. Tato himagabbhasatt±ha½ abhisekasatt±hańca v²tin±metv± k±¼apakkhassa uposathadivase r±j± ekadivaseneva p±µaliputta½ pavisitv± kattikajuŗhapakkhassa p±µipadadivase mah±bodhi½ p±c²namah±s±lam³le µhapesi. Suvaŗŗakaµ±he patiµµhitadivasato sattarasame divase mah±bodhissa abhinavaŖkur± p±turahesu½. Te disv±pi pasanno r±j± puna mah±bodhi½ rajjena p³jento sakalajambud²p±bhisekamad±si. Tad± sumanas±maŗero kattikapuŗŗamadivase dh±tuggahaŗattha½ gato mah±bodhissa kattikachaŗap³ja½ addasa. Eva½ mah±bodhimaŗ¹ato ±netv± p±µaliputte µhapita½ mah±bodhi½ sandh±ya ±ha– “tena hi, amma, mah±bodhi½ gahetv± gacch±h²”ti. S± “s±dh³”ti sampaµicchi.
