94. Bhagav± s±vatthiya½ viharati jetavane an±thapiº¹ikassa ±r±me. Tena kho pana samayena sambahul± bhikkh³ bhagavato c²varakamma½ karonti “niµµhitac²varo bhagav± tem±saccayena c±rika½ pakkamissat²”ti. Tena kho pana samayena isidattapur±º± thapatayo s±kete [s±dhuke (sa½. ni. 5.1002)] paµivasanti kenaci deva karaº²yena. Assosu½ kho isidattapur±º± thapatayo “sambahul± kira bhikkh³ bhagavato c²varakamma½ karonti. Niµµhitac²varo bhagav± tem±saccayena c±rika½ pakkamissat²”ti.
Atha kho isidattapur±º± thapatayo magge purisa½ µhapesu½ “yad± tva½ ambho purisa passeyy±si bhagavanta½ ±gacchanta½ arahanta½ samm±sambuddha½, atha amh±ka½ ±roceyy±s²”ti. Dv²hat²ha½ µhito kho so puriso addasa bhagavanta½ d³ratova ±gacchanta½, disv±na yena isidattapur±º± thapatayo tenupasaªkami, upasaªkamitv± isidattapur±ºe thapatayo etadavoca “aya½ so bhante [aya½ bhante (s². ka.) passa sa½. ni. 5.1002] bhagav± ±gacchati araha½ samm±sambuddho, yassad±ni k±la½ maññath±”ti.
Atha kho isidattapur±º± thapatayo yena bhagav± tenupasaªkami½su, upasaªkamitv± bhagavanta½ abhiv±detv± bhagavanta½ piµµhito piµµhito anubandhi½su. Atha kho bhagav± magg± okkamma yena aññatara½ rukkham³la½ tenupasaªkami, upasaªkamitv± paññatte ±sane nis²di. Isidattapur±º± thapatayo bhagavanta½ abhiv±detv± ekamanta½ nis²di½su, ekamanta½ nisinn± kho isidattapur±º± thapatayo bhagavanta½ etadavocu½–

T±sa½ kho pana, bhante, bhagin²na½ evar³po k±yasamphasso hoti, seyyath±pi n±ma t³lapicuno v± kapp±hapicuno v±, yath± ta½ r±jakaññ±na½ sukhedhit±na½. Idha, thapatayo, sutav± ariyas±vako buddhe aveccappas±dena samann±gato hoti itipi so bhagav± araha½…pe… buddho bhagav±ti, dhamme…pe… saªghe…pe… vigatamalamaccherena cetas± ag±ra½ ajjh±vasati, muttac±go payatap±ºi vossaggarato y±cayogo d±nasa½vibh±garato appaµivibhatta½. Imehi kho, thapatayo, cat³hi dhammehi samann±gato ariyas±vako sot±panno hoti avinip±tadhammo niyato sambodhipar±yaºo.
“Tumhe kho, thapatayo, buddhe aveccappas±dena samann±gat± itipi so bhagav± araha½…pe… buddho bhagav±ti, dhamme…pe… saªghe…pe… ya½ kho pana kiñci kule deyyadhamma½, sabba½ ta½ appaµivibhatta½ s²lavantehi kaly±ºadhammehi, ta½ ki½ maññatha, thapatayo, katividh± te kosalesu manuss± ye tumh±ka½ samasam± yadida½ d±nasa½vibh±geh²”ti? “L±bh± no, bhante, suladdha½ no, bhante, yesa½ no bhagav± eva½ paj±n±t²”ti.
