3. “Bhante n±gasena, devadatto kena pabb±jito”ti? “Cha yime, mah±r±ja, khattiyakum±r± bhaddiyo ca anuruddho ca ±nando ca bhagu ca kimilo [kimbilo (s². p².) ma. ni. 2.166 passitabba½] ca devadatto ca up±likappako sattamo abhisambuddhe satthari sakyakul±nandajanane bhagavanta½ anupabbajant± nikkhami½su, te bhagav± pabb±jes²”ti. “Nanu, bhante, devadattena pabbajitv± saªgho bhinno”ti? “¾ma, mah±r±ja, devadattena pabbajitv± saªgho bhinno, na gih² saªgha½ bhindati, na bhikkhun², na sikkham±n±, na s±maºero, na s±maºer² saªgha½ bhindati, bhikkhu pakatatto sam±nasa½v±sako sam±nas²m±ya½ µhito saªgha½ bhindat²ti. Saªghabhedako, bhante, puggalo ki½ kamma½ phusat²”ti? “Kappaµµhitika½, mah±r±ja, kamma½ phusat²”ti.
“Ki½ pana, bhante n±gasena, buddho j±n±ti ‘devadatto pabbajitv± saªgha½ bhindissati, saªgha½ bhinditv± kappa½ niraye paccissat²”’ti? “¾ma, mah±r±ja, tath±gato j±n±ti ‘devadatto pabbajitv± saªgha½ bhindissati, saªgha½ bhinditv± kappa½ niraye paccissat²”’ti. “Yadi, bhante n±gasena, buddho j±n±ti ‘devadatto pabbajitv± saªgha½ bhindissati, saªgha½ bhinditv± kappa½ niraye paccissat²’ti, tena hi, bhante n±gasena, buddho k±ruºiko anukampako hites² sabbasatt±na½ ahita½ apanetv± hitamupadahat²ti ya½ vacana½, ta½ micch±. Yadi ta½ aj±nitv± pabb±jesi, tena hi buddho asabbaññ³ti, ayampi ubhato koµiko pañho tav±nuppatto, vijaµehi eta½ mah±jaµa½, bhinda par±pav±da½, an±gate addh±ne tay± sadis± buddhimanto bhikkh³ dullabh± bhavissanti, ettha tava bala½ pak±seh²”ti.
“K±ruºiko, mah±r±ja, bhagav± sabbaññ³ ca, k±ruññena, mah±r±ja, bhagav± sabbaññutañ±ºena devadattassa gati½ olokento addasa devadatta½ ±p±yika½ kamma½ [apar±pariyakamma½ (s². sy±. p².)] ±y³hitv± anek±ni kappakoµisatasahass±ni nirayena niraya½ vinip±tena vinip±ta½ gacchanta½, ta½ bhagav± sabbaññutañ±ºena j±nitv± imassa apariyantakata½ kamma½ mama s±sane pabbajitassa pariyantakata½ bhavissati, purima½ up±d±ya pariyantakata½ dukkha½ bhavissati, apabbajitopi aya½ moghapuriso kappaµµhiyameva kamma½ ±y³hissat²ti k±ruññena devadatta½ pabb±jes²”ti.
“Tena hi, bhante n±gasena, buddho vadhitv± telena makkheti, pap±te p±tetv± hattha½ deti, m±retv± j²vita½ pariyesati, ya½ so paµhama½ dukkha½ datv± pacch± sukha½ upadahat²”ti? “Vadhetipi, mah±r±ja, tath±gato satt±na½ hitavasena, p±tetipi satt±na½ hitavasena, m±retipi satt±na½ hitavasena, vadhitv±pi, mah±r±ja, tath±gato satt±na½ hitameva upadahati, p±tetv±pi satt±na½ hitameva upadahati, m±retv±pi satt±na½ hitameva upadahati. Yath±, mah±r±ja, m±t±pitaro n±ma vadhitv±pi p±tayitv±pi putt±na½ hitameva upadahanti, evameva kho, mah±r±ja, tath±gato vadhetipi satt±na½ hitavasena, p±tetipi satt±na½ hitavasena, m±retipi satt±na½ hitavasena, vadhitv±pi, mah±r±ja, tath±gato satt±na½ hitameva upadahati, p±tetv±pi satt±na½ hitameva upadahati, m±retv±pi satt±na½ hitameva upadahati, yena yena yogena satt±na½ guºavu¹¹hi hoti, tena tena yogena sabbasatt±na½ hitameva upadahati. Sace, mah±r±ja, devadatto na pabb±jeyya, gihibh³to sam±no nirayasa½vattanika½ bahu½ p±pakamma½ katv± anek±ni kappakoµisatasahass±ni nirayena niraya½ vinip±tena vinip±ta½ gacchanto bahu½ dukkha½ vedayissati, ta½ bhagav± j±nam±no k±ruññena devadatta½ pabb±jesi, ‘mama s±sane pabbajitassa dukkha½ pariyantakata½ bhavissat²’ti k±ruññena garuka½ dukkha½ lahuka½ ak±si.
“Yath± v±, mah±r±ja, dhanayasasiriñ±tibalena balav± puriso attano ñ±ti½ v± mitta½ v± raññ± garuka½ daº¹a½ dh±renta½ attano bahuvissatthabh±vena samatthat±ya garuka½ daº¹a½ lahuka½ ak±si, evameva kho, mah±r±ja, bhagav± bah³ni kappakoµisatasahass±ni dukkha½ vedayam±na½ devadatta½ pabb±jetv± s²lasam±dhipaññ±vimuttibalasamatthabh±vena garuka½ dukkha½ lahuka½ ak±si.
“Yath± v± pana, mah±r±ja, kusalo bhisakko sallakatto garuka½ roga½ balavosadhabalena lahuka½ karoti, evameva kho, mah±r±ja, bah³ni kappakoµisatasahass±ni dukkha½ vedayam±na½ devadatta½ bhagav± rogaññut±ya pabb±jetv± k±ruññabalo patthaddhadhammosadhabalena garuka½ dukkha½ lahuka½ ak±si. Api nu kho so, mah±r±ja, bhagav± bahuvedan²ya½ devadatta½ appavedan²ya½ karonto kiñci apuñña½ ±pajjeyy±”ti? “Na kiñci, bhante, apuñña½ ±pajjeyya antamaso gadd³hanamattamp²”ti. “Imampi kho, mah±r±ja, k±raºa½ atthato sampaµiccha, yena k±raºena bhagav± devadatta½ pabb±jesi.
“Aparampi mah±r±ja, uttari½ k±raºa½ suºohi, yena k±raºena bhagav± devadatta½ pabb±jesi. Yath±, mah±r±ja, cora½ ±guc±ri½ gahetv± rañño dasseyyu½, ‘aya½ kho, deva, coro ±guc±r², imassa ya½ icchasi, ta½ daº¹a½ paºeh²’ti. Tamena½ r±j± eva½ vadeyya ‘tena hi bhaºe, ima½ cora½ bahinagara½ n²haritv± ±gh±tane s²sa½ chindath±”ti, ‘eva½ dev±’ti kho te rañño paµissutv± ta½ bahinagara½ n²haritv± ±gh±tana½ nayeyyu½. Tamena½ passeyya kocideva puriso rañño santik± laddhavaro laddhayasadhanabhogo ±deyyavacano balavicchitak±r², so tassa k±ruñña½ katv± te purise eva½ vadeyya ‘ala½, bho, ki½ tumh±ka½ imassa s²sacchedanena, tena hi bho imassa hattha½ v± p±da½ v± chinditv± j²vita½ rakkhatha, ahametassa k±raº± rañño santike paµivacana½ kariss±m²’ti. Te tassa balavato vacanena tassa corassa hattha½ v± p±da½ v± chinditv± j²vita½ rakkheyyu½. Api nu kho so, mah±r±ja, puriso eva½ k±r² tassa corassa kiccak±r² ass±”ti? “J²vitad±yako so, bhante, puriso tassa corassa, j²vite dinne ki½ tassa akata½ n±ma atth²”ti? “Y± pana hatthap±dacchedane vedan±, so t±ya vedan±ya kiñci apuñña½ ±pajjeyy±”ti? “Attano katena so, bhante, coro dukkhavedana½ vedayati, j²vitad±yako pana puriso na kiñci apuñña½ ±pajjeyy±”ti. “Evameva kho, mah±r±ja, bhagav± k±ruññena devadatta½ pabb±jesi ‘mama s±sane pabbajitassa dukkha½ pariyantakata½ bhavissat²’ti. Pariyantakatañca, mah±r±ja, devadattassa dukkha½, devadatto, mah±r±ja, maraºak±le–
“‘Imehi aµµh²hi tamaggapuggala½, dev±tideva½ naradammas±rathi½;
samantacakkhu½ satapuññalakkhaºa½, p±ºehi buddha½ saraºa½ upem²’ti.
“P±ºupeta½ saraºamagam±si. Devadatto, mah±r±ja, cha koµµh±se kate kappe atikkante paµhamakoµµh±se saªgha½ bhindi, pañca koµµh±se niraye paccitv± tato muccitv± aµµhissaro n±ma paccekabuddho bhavissati. Api nu kho so, mah±r±ja, bhagav± eva½ k±r² devadattassa kiccak±r² ass±”ti? “Sabbadado, bhante n±gasena, tath±gato devadattassa, ya½ tath±gato devadatta½ paccekabodhi½ p±pessati, ki½ tath±gatena devadattassa akata½ n±ma atth²”ti? “Ya½ pana, mah±r±ja, devadatto saªgha½ bhinditv± niraye dukkhavedana½ vedayati, api nu kho bhagav± tatonid±na½ kiñci apuñña½ ±pajjeyy±”ti? “Na hi, bhante, attan± katena, bhante, devadatto kappa½ niraye paccati, dukkhapariyantak±rako satth± na kiñci apuñña½ ±pajjat²”ti. “Imampi kho, tva½ mah±r±ja, k±raºa½ atthato sampaµiccha, yena k±raºena bhagav± devadatta½ pabb±jesi.
“Aparampi, mah±r±ja, uttari½ k±raºa½ suºohi, yena k±raºena bhagav± devadatta½ pabb±jesi Yath±, mah±r±ja, kusalo bhisakko sallakatto v±tapittasemhasannip±ta-utupariº±mavisamaparih±ra-opakkamikopakkanta½ p³tikuºapaduggandh±bhisañchanna½ antosalla½ susiragata½ pubbaruhirasampuººa½ vaºa½ v³pasamento vaºamukha½ kakkha¼atikhiºakh±rakaµukena bhesajjena anulimpati paripaccan±ya, paripaccitv± mudubh±vamupagata½ satthena vikantayitv± ¹ahati sal±k±ya, da¹¹he kh±ralavaºa½ deti, bhesajjena anulimpati vaºaruhan±ya by±dhitassa sotthibh±vamanuppattiy±, api nu kho so, mah±r±ja, bhisakko sallakatto ahitacitto bhesajjena anulimpati, satthena vikanteti, ¹ahati sal±k±ya, kh±ralavaºa½ det²”ti? “Na hi, bhante, hitacitto sotthik±mo t±ni kiriy±ni karot²”ti. “Y± panassa bhesajjakiriy±karaºena uppann± dukkhavedan±, tatonid±na½ so bhisakko sallakatto kiñci apuñña½ ±pajjeyy±”ti? “Hitacitto, bhante, sotthik±mo bhisakko sallakatto t±ni kiriy±ni karoti, ki½ so tatonid±na½ apuñña½ ±pajjeyya, saggag±m² so, bhante, bhisakko sallakatto”ti. “Evameva kho, mah±r±ja, k±ruññena bhagav± devadatta½ pabb±jesi dukkhaparimuttiy±.
“Aparampi, mah±r±ja, uttari½ k±raºa½ suºohi, yena k±raºena bhagav± devadatta½ pabb±jesi. Yath±, mah±r±ja, puriso kaºµakena viddho assa, athaññataro puriso tassa hitak±mo sotthik±mo tiºhena kaºµakenav± satthamukhena v± samantato chinditv± paggharantena lohitena ta½ kaºµaka½ n²hareyya, api nu kho so, mah±r±ja, puriso ahitak±mo ta½ kaºµaka½ n²harat²”ti? “Na hi, bhante, hitak±mo so, bhante, puriso sotthik±mo ta½ kaºµaka½ n²harati. Sace so, bhante, ta½ kaºµaka½ na n²hareyya, maraºa½ v± so tena p±puºeyya maraºamatta½ v± dukkhan”ti. “Evameva kho, mah±r±ja, tath±gato k±ruññena devadatta½ pabb±jesi dukkhaparimuttiy±. Sace mah±r±ja, bhagav± devadatta½ na pabb±jeyya, kappakoµisatasahassampi devadatto bhavaparampar±ya niraye pacceyy±”ti.
“Anusotag±mi½, bhante n±gasena, devadatta½ tath±gato paµisota½ p±pesi, vipanthapaµipanna½ devadatta½ panthe paµip±desi, pap±te patitassa devadattassa patiµµha½ ad±si, visamagata½ devadatta½ tath±gato sama½ ±ropesi, ime ca, bhante n±gasena, het³ im±ni ca k±raº±ni na sakk± aññena sandassetu½ aññatra tav±disena buddhimat±”ti.
