Atha kho milindassa rañño etadahosi “paº¹ito kho aya½ bhikkhu paµibalo may± saddhi½ sallapitu½, bahuk±ni ca me µh±n±ni pucchitabb±ni bhavissanti, y±va apucchit±ni yeva t±ni µh±n±ni bhavissanti, atha s³riyo attha½ gamissati, ya½n³n±ha½ sve antepure sallapeyyan”ti. Atha kho r±j± devamantiya½ etadavoca “tena hi, tva½ devamantiya, bhadantassa ±roceyy±si ‘sve antepure raññ± saddhi½ sall±po bhavissat²”’ti. Ida½ vatv± milindo r±j± uµµh±y±san± thera½ n±gasena½ ±pucchitv± ratha½ abhir³hitv± “n±gaseno n±gaseno”ti sajjh±ya½ karonto pakk±mi.
Atha kho devamantiyo ±yasmanta½ n±gasena½ etadavoca “r±j±, bhante, milindo evam±ha ‘sve antepure raññ± saddhi½ sall±po bhavissat²”’ti. “Suµµh³”ti thero abbh±numodi. Atha kho tass± rattiy± accayena devamantiyo ca anantak±yo ca maªkuro ca sabbadinno ca yena milindo r±j± tenupasaªkami½su, upasaªkamitv± r±j±na½ milinda½ etadavocu½ “±gacchatu, mah±r±ja, bhadanto n±gaseno”ti “¾ma ±gacchat³”ti. “Kittakehi bhikkh³hi saddhi½ ±gacchat³”ti? “Yattake bhikkh³ icchati, tattakehi bhikkh³hi saddhi½ ±gacchat³”ti.
Atha kho sabbadinno ±ha “±gacchatu, mah±r±ja, dasahi bhikkh³hi saddhin”ti, dutiyampi kho r±j± ±ha “yattake bhikkh³ icchati, tattakehi bhikkh³hi saddhi½ ±gacchat³”ti Dutiyampi kho sabbadinno ±ha “±gacchatu, mah±r±ja, dasahi bhikkh³hi saddhin”ti. Tatiyampi kho r±j± ±ha “yattake bhikkh³ icchati, tattakehi bhikkh³hi saddhi½ ±gacchat³”ti. Tatiyampi kho sabbadinno ±ha “±gacchatu, mah±r±ja, dasahi bhikkh³hi saddhin”ti. “Sabbo pan±ya½ sakk±ro paµiy±dito, aha½ bhaº±mi ‘yattake bhikkh³ icchati, tattakehi bhikkh³hi saddhi½ ±gacchat³’ti. Aya½, bhaºe sabbadinno, aññath± bhaºati, ki½ nu maya½ nappaµibal± bhikkh³na½ bhojana½ d±tun”ti? Eva½ vutte sabbadinno maªku ahosi.
Atha kho devamantiyo ca anantak±yo ca maªkuro ca yen±yasm± n±gaseno tenupasaªkami½su, upasaªkamitv± ±yasmanta½ n±gasena½ etadavocu½ “r±j±, bhante, milindo evam±ha ‘yattake bhikkh³ icchati, tattakehi bhikkh³hi saddhi½ ±gacchat³”’ti. Atha kho ±yasm± n±gaseno pubbaºhasamaya½ niv±setv± pattac²varam±d±ya as²tiy± bhikkhusahassehi saddhi½ s±gala½ p±visi.
Atha kho anantak±yo ±yasmanta½ n±gasena½ niss±ya gacchanto ±yasmanta½ n±gasena½ etadavoca “bhante n±gasena, ya½ paneta½ br³si ‘n±gaseno’ti, katamo ettha, n±gaseno”ti? Thero ±ha “ko panettha ‘n±gaseno’ti maññas²”ti? “Yo so, bhante, abbhantare v±to j²vo pavisati ca nikkhamati ca, so ‘n±gaseno’ti maññ±m²”ti. “Yadi paneso v±to nikkhamitv± nappaviseyya, pavisitv± na nikkhameyya, j²veyya nu kho so puriso”ti? “Na hi bhante”ti “Ye panime saªkhadhamak± saªkha½ dhamenti, tesa½ v±to puna pavisat²”ti? “Na hi bhante”ti. “Ye panime va½sadhamak± va½sa½ dhamenti, tesa½ v±to puna pavisat²”ti? “Na hi bhante”ti. “Ye panime siªgadhamak± siªga½ dhamenti, tesa½ v±to puna pavisat²”ti? “Na hi bhante”ti. “Atha kissa pana tena na marant²”ti. “N±ha½ paµibalo tay± v±din± saddhi½ sallapitu½, s±dhu, bhante, attha½ jappeh²”ti. “Neso j²vo, ass±sapass±s± n±mete k±yasaªkh±r±”ti thero abhidhammakatha½ kathesi. Atha anantak±yo up±sakatta½ paµivedes²ti.
