8. “Bhante n±gasena, bh±sitampeta½ tath±gatena ‘ahamasmi, bhikkhave, br±hmaºo y±cayogo’ti. Puna ca bhaºita½ ‘r±j±hamasmi sel±’ti. Yadi, bhante n±gasena, bhagavat± bhaºita½ ‘ahamasmi, bhikkhave br±hmaºo y±cayogo’ti, tena hi ‘r±j±hamasmi sel±’ti ya½ vacana½, ta½ micch±. Yadi tath±gatena bhaºita½ ‘r±j±hamasmi sel±’ti, tena hi ‘ahamasmi, bhikkhave, br±hmaºo y±cayogo’ti tampi vacana½ micch±. Khattiyo v± hi bhaveyya br±hmaºo v±, natthi ek±ya j±tiy± dve vaºº± n±ma, ayampi ubhato koµiko pañho tav±nuppatto, so tay± nibb±hitabbo”ti.
“Bh±sitampeta½, mah±r±ja, bhagavat± ‘ahamasmi, bhikkhave, br±hmaºo y±cayogo’ti, puna ca bhaºita½ ‘r±j±hamasmi sel±’ti, tattha k±raºa½ atthi, yena k±raºena tath±gato br±hmaºo ca r±j± ca hot²”ti.
“Ki½ pana ta½, bhante n±gasena, k±raºa½, yena k±raºena tath±gato br±hmaºo ca r±j± ca hoti”? “Sabbe, mah±r±ja, p±pak± akusal± dhamm± tath±gatassa b±hit± pah²n± apagat± byapagat± ucchinn± kh²º± khaya½ patt± nibbut± upasant±, tasm± tath±gato ‘br±hmaºo’ti vuccati.
“Br±hmaºo n±ma sa½sayamaneka½sa½ vimatipatha½ v²tivatto, bhagav±pi, mah±r±ja, sa½sayamaneka½sa½ vimatipatha½ v²tivatto, tena k±raºena tath±gato ‘br±hmaºo’ti vuccati.
“Br±hmaºo n±ma sabbabhavagatiyoninissaµo malarajagatavippamutto asah±yo, bhagav±pi, mah±r±ja, sabbabhavagatiyoninissaµo malarajagatavippamutto asah±yo, tena k±raºena tath±gato ‘br±hmaºo’ti vuccati.
“Br±hmaº± n±ma aggaseµµhavarapavaradibbavih±rabahulo, bhagav±pi, mah±r±ja, aggaseµµhavarapavaradibbavih±rabahulo, ten±pi kaparaºena tath±gato “br±hmaºo”ti vuccati.
“Br±hmaºo n±ma ajjhayana ajjh±pana d±nappaµiggahaºa dama sa½yamaniyamapubbamanusiµµhi paveºi va½sa dharaºo, bhagav±pi, mah±r±ja, ajjhayana ajjh±pana d±nappaµiggahaºa dama sa½yama niyama pubbajin±ciººa anusiµµhi paveºi va½sa dharaºo ten±pi k±raºena tath±gato ‘br±hmaºo’ti vuccati.
“Br±hmaºo n±ma brah±sukhavih±rajjh±najh±y²; bhagav±pi, mah±r±ja, brah±sukhavih±rajjh±najh±y², ten±pi k±raºena tath±gato ‘br±hmaºo’ti vuccati.
“Br±hmaºo n±ma sabbabhav±bhavagat²su abhij±tivattitamanucarita½ j±n±ti, bhagav±pi, mah±r±ja, sabbabhav±bhavagat²su abhij±tivattitamanucarita½ j±n±ti, ten±pi k±raºena tath±gato ‘br±hmaºo’ti vuccati.
“Br±hmaºoti, mah±r±ja, bhagavato neta½ n±ma½ m±tar± kata½, na pitar± kata½, na bh±tar± kata½, na bhaginiy± kata½, na mitt±maccehi kata½, na ñ±tis±lohitehi kata½, na samaºabr±hmaºehi kata½, na devat±hi kata½, vimokkhantikameta½ buddh±na½ bhagavant±na½ n±ma½ bodhiy± yeva m³le m±rasena½ vidhamitv± at²t±n±gatapaccuppanne p±pake akusale dhamme b±hetv± saha sabbaññutañ±ºassa paµil±bh± paµiladdhap±tubh³tasamuppannamatte sacchik± paññatti yadida½ br±hmaºoti, tena k±raºena tath±gato vuccati ‘br±hmaºo”’ti.
“Kena pana, bhante n±gasena, k±raºena tath±gato vuccati ‘r±j±”’ti? “R±j± n±ma, mah±r±ja, yo koci rajja½ k±reti lokamanus±sati, bhagav±pi, mah±r±ja, dasasahassiy± lokadh±tuy± dhammena rajja½ k±reti, sadevaka½ loka½ sam±raka½ sabrahmaka½ sassamaºabr±hmaºi½ paja½ sadevamanussa½ anus±sati, ten±pi k±raºena tath±gato vuccati ‘r±j±’ti.
“R±j± n±ma, mah±r±ja, sabbajanamanusse abhibhavitv± nandayanto ñ±tisaªgha½, socayanto amittasaªgha½, mahatimah±yasasirihara½ thiras±radaº¹a½ an³nasatasal±k±laªkata½ uss±peti paº¹aravimalasetacchatta½, bhagav±pi, mah±r±ja, socayanto m±rasena½ micch±paµipanna½, nandayanto devamanusse samm±paµipanne dasasahassiy± lokadh±tuy± mahatimah±yasasirihara½ khantithiras±radaº¹a½ ñ±ºavarasatasal±k±laªkata½ uss±peti aggavaravimuttipaº¹aravimalasetacchatta½, ten±pi k±raºena tath±gato vuccati ‘r±j±’ti.

“R±j± n±ma yassa kassaci ±r±dhakassa pas²ditv± varita½ vara½ datv± k±mena tappayati, bhagav±pi, mah±r±ja, yassa kassaci k±yena v±c±ya manas± ±r±dhakassa pas²ditv± varita½ varamanuttara½ sabbadukkhaparimutti½ datv± asesak±mavarena ca tappayati, ten±pi k±raºena tath±gato vuccati ‘r±j±’ti.
“R±j± n±ma ±ºa½ v²tikkamanta½ vigarahati jh±peti [j±peti (s². p².)] dha½seti, bhagavatopi, mah±r±ja, s±sanavare ±ºa½ atikkamanto alajj² maªkubh±vena oññ±to h²¼ito garahito bhavitv± vajjati jinas±sanavaramh±, ten±pi k±raºena tath±gato vuccati ‘r±j±’ti.
“R±j± n±ma pubbak±na½ dhammik±na½ r±j³na½ paveºimanusiµµhiy± dhamm±dhammamanud²payitv± dhammena rajja½ k±rayam±no pihayito piyo patthito bhavati janamanuss±na½, cira½ r±jakulava½sa½ µhapayati dhammaguºabalena, bhagav±pi, mah±r±ja, pubbak±na½ sayambh³na½ paveºimanusiµµhiy± dhamm±dhammamanud²payitv± dhammena lokamanus±sam±no pihayito piyo patthito devamanuss±na½ cira½ s±sana½ pavatteti dhammaguºabalena, ten±pi k±raºena tath±gato vuccati ‘r±j±’ti. Evamanekavidha½, mah±r±ja, k±raºa½, yena k±raºena tath±gato br±hmaºopi bhaveyya r±j±pi bhaveyya, sunipuºo bhikkhu kappampi no na½ samp±deyya, ki½ atibahu½ bhaºitena, sa½khitta½ sampaµicchitabban”ti. “S±dhu, bhante n±gasena, evameta½ tath± sampaµicch±m²”ti.
