“Bhante n±gasena, tumhe bhaºatha ‘devadatto ekantakaºho, ekantakaºhehi dhammehi samann±gato, bodhisatto ekantasukko, ekantasukkehi dhammehi samann±gato’ti. Puna ca devadatto bhave bhave yasena ca pakkhena ca bodhisattena samasamo hoti, kad±ci adhikataro v±. Yad± devadatto nagare b±r±ºasiya½ brahmadattassa rañño purohitaputto ahosi, tad± bodhisatto chavakacaº¹±lo ahosi vijj±dharo, vijja½ parijappitv± ak±le ambaphal±ni nibbattesi, ettha t±va bodhisatto devadattato j±tiy± nih²no yasena ca nih²no.
“Puna capara½ yad± devadatto r±j± ahosi mah± mah²pati sabbak±masamaªg², tad± bodhisatto tass³pabhogo ahosi hatthin±go sabbalakkhaºasampanno, tassa c±rugativil±sa½ asaham±no r±j± vadhamicchanto hatth±cariya½ evamavoca ‘asikkhito te, ±cariya, hatthin±go, tassa ±k±sagamana½ n±ma k±raºa½ karoh²’ti, tatthapi t±va bodhisatto devadattato j±tiy± nih²no l±mako tiracch±nagato.
“Puna capara½ yad± devadatto manusso ahosi pavane naµµh±yiko, tad± bodhisatto mah±pathav² n±ma makkaµo ahosi, etthapi t±va dissati viseso manussassa ca tiracch±nagatassa ca, tatthapi t±va bodhisatto devadattato j±tiy± nih²no.
“Puna capara½ yad± devadatto manusso ahosi soºuttaro n±ma nes±do balav± balavataro n±gabalo, tad± bodhisatto chaddanto n±ma n±gar±j± ahosi. Tad± so luddako ta½ hatthin±ga½ gh±tesi, tatthapi t±va devadattova adhikataro.
“Puna capara½ yad± devadatto manusso ahosi vanacarako aniketav±s², tad± bodhisatto sakuºo ahosi tittiro mantajjh±y², tad±pi so vanacarako ta½ sakuºa½ gh±tesi, tatthapi t±va devadattova j±tiy± adhikataro.
“Puna capara½ yad± devadatto kal±bu n±ma k±sir±j± [k±sikar±j± (ka.)] ahosi, tad± bodhisatto t±paso ahosi khantiv±d². Tad± so r±j± tassa t±pasassa kuddho hatthap±de va½saka¼²re viya ched±pesi, tatthapi t±va devadatto yeva adhikataro j±tiy± ca yasena ca.
“Puna capara½ yad± devadatto manusso ahosi vanacaro, tad± bodhisatto nandiyo n±ma v±narindo ahosi, tad±pi so vanacaro ta½ v±narinda½ gh±tesi saddhi½ m±tar± kaniµµhabh±tikena ca, tatthapi t±va devadatto yeva adhikataro j±tiy±.
“Puna capara½ yad± devadatto manusso ahosi acelako k±rambhiyo n±ma, tad± bodhisatto paº¹arako n±ma n±gar±j± ahosi, tatthapi t±va devadatto yeva adhikataro j±tiy±.
“Puna capara½ yad± devadatto manusso ahosi pavane jaµilako, tad± bodhisatto tacchako n±ma mah±s³karo ahosi, tatthapi t±va devadatto yeva j±tiy± adhikataro.
“Puna capara½ yad± devadatto cet²su s³raparicaro n±ma r±j± ahosi upari purisamatte gagane veh±saªgamo, tad± bodhisatto kapilo n±ma br±hmaºo ahosi, tatthapi t±va devadatto yeva adhikataro j±tiy± ca yasena ca.
“Puna capara½ yad± devadatto manusso ahosi s±mo n±ma, tad± bodhisatto ruru n±ma migar±j± ahosi, tatthapi t±va devadatto yeva j±tiy± adhikataro.
“Puna capara½ yad± devadatto manusso ahosi luddako pavanacaro, tad± bodhisatto hatthin±go ahosi, so luddako tassa hatthin±gassa sattakkhattu½ dante chinditv± hari, tatthapi t±va devadatto yeva yoniy± adhikataro.
“Puna capara½ yad± devadatto siªg±lo ahosi khattiyadhammo, so y±vat± jambud²pe padesar±j±no te sabbe anuyutte ak±si, tad± bodhisatto vidhuro n±ma paº¹ito ahosi, tatthapi t±va devadatto yeva yasena adhikataro.
“Puna capara½ yad± devadatto hatthin±go hutv± laµukik±ya sakuºik±ya puttake gh±tesi, tad± bodhisattopi hatthin±go ahosi y³thapati, tattha t±va ubhopi te samasam± ahesu½.
“Puna capara½ yad± devadatto yakkho ahosi adhammo n±ma, tad± bodhisattopi yakkho ahosi dhammo n±ma, tatthapi t±va ubhopi samasam± ahesu½.
“Puna capara½ yad± devadatto n±viko ahosi pañcanna½ kulasat±na½ issaro, tad± bodhisattopi n±viko ahosi pañcanna½ kulasat±na½ issaro, tatthapi t±va ubhopi samasam± ahesu½.
“Puna capara½ yad± devadatto satthav±ho ahosi pañcanna½ sakaµasat±na½ issaro, tad± bodhisattopi satthav±ho ahosi pañcanna½ sakaµasat±na½ issaro, tatthapi t±va ubhopi samasam± ahesu½.
“Puna capara½ yad± devadatto s±kho n±ma migar±j± ahosi, tad± bodhisattopi nigrodho n±ma migar±j± ahosi, tatthapi t±va ubhopi samasam± ahesu½.
“Puna capara½ yad± devadatto s±kho n±ma sen±pati ahosi, tad± bodhisattopi nigrodho n±ma r±j± ahosi, tatthapi t±va ubhopi samasam± ahesu½.
“Puna capara½ yad± devadatto khaº¹ah±lo n±ma br±hmaºo ahosi, tad± bodhisatto cando n±ma r±jakum±ro ahosi, tad± so khaº¹ah±lo yeva adhikataro.
“Puna capara½ yad± devadatto brahmadatto n±ma r±j± ahosi, tad± bodhisatto tassa putto mah±padumo n±ma kum±ro ahosi, tad± so r±j± sakaputta½ corapap±te khip±pesi, yato kutoci pit±va putt±na½ adhikataro hoti visiµµhoti, tatthapi t±va devadatto yeva adhikataro.
“Puna capara½ yad± devadatto mah±pat±po n±ma r±j± ahosi, tad± bodhisatto tassa putto dhammap±lo n±ma kum±ro ahosi, tad± so r±j± sakaputtassa hatthap±de s²sañca ched±pesi, tatthapi t±va devadatto yeva uttaro adhikataro.
Ajjetarahi ubhopi sakyakule j±yi½su. Bodhisatto buddho ahosi sabbaññ³ lokan±yako, devadatto tassa dev±tidevassa s±sane pabbajitv± iddhi½ nibbattetv± buddh±laya½ ak±si. Ki½ nu kho, bhante n±gasena, ya½ may± bhaºita½, ta½ sabba½ tatha½ ud±hu vitathan”ti?
“Ya½ tva½, mah±r±ja, bahuvidha½ k±raºa½ os±resi, sabba½ ta½ tatheva, no aññath±”ti. “Yadi, bhante n±gasena, kaºhopi sukkopi samasamagatik± honti, tena hi kusalampi akusalampi samasamavip±ka½ hot²”ti? “Na hi, mah±r±ja, kusalampi akusalampi samasamavip±ka½ hoti, na hi, mah±r±ja, devadatto sabbajanehi paµiviruddho, bodhisatteneva paµiviruddho. Yo tassa bodhisattena paµiviruddho, so tasmi½ tasmi½ yeva bhave paccati phala½ deti. Devadattopi, mah±r±ja, issariye µhito janapadesu ±rakkha½ deti, setu½ sabha½ puññas±la½ k±reti, samaºabr±hmaº±na½ kapaºaddhikavaºibbak±na½ n±th±n±th±na½ yath±paºihita½ d±na½ deti. Tassa so vip±kena bhave bhave sampattiyo paµilabhati. Kasseta½, mah±r±ja, sakk± vattu½ vin± d±nena damena sa½yamena uposathakammena sampatti½ anubhavissat²ti?
“Ya½ pana tva½, mah±r±ja, eva½ vadesi ‘devadatto ca bodhisatto ca ekato anuparivattant²’ti, so na j±tisatassa accayena sam±gamo ahosi, na j±tisahassassa accayena, na j±tisatasahassassa accayena, kad±ci karahaci bah³na½ ahoratt±na½ accayena sam±gamo ahosi. Ya½ paneta½, mah±r±ja, bhagavat± k±ºakacchapopama½ upadassita½ manussattappaµil±bh±ya, tath³pama½, mah±r±ja, imesa½ sam±gama½ dh±rehi.
“Na, mah±r±ja, bodhisattassa devadatteneva saddhi½ sam±gamo ahosi, theropi, mah±r±ja, s±riputto anekesu j±tisatasahassesu bodhisattassa pit± ahosi, mah±pit± ahosi, c³¼apit± ahosi bh±t± ahosi, putto ahosi, bh±gineyyo ahosi, mitto ahosi.
“Bodhisattopi, mah±r±ja, anekesu j±tisatasahassesu therassa s±riputtassa pit± ahosi, mah±pit± ahosi, c³¼apit± ahosi, bh±t± ahosi, putto ahosi, bh±gineyyo ahosi mitto ahosi, sabbepi, mah±r±ja, sattanik±yapariy±pann± sa½s±rasotamanugat± sa½s±rasotena vuyhant± appiyehipi piyehipi sam±gacchanti. Devadatto, mah±r±ja, yakkho sam±no attan± adhammo pare adhamme niyojetv± sattapaññ±savassakoµiyo saµµhi ca vassasatasahass±ni mah±niraye pacci bodhisattopi, mah±r±ja, yakkho sam±no attan± dhammo pare dhamme niyojetv± sattapaññ±savassakoµiyo saµµhi ca vassasatasahass±ni sagge modi sabbak±masamaªg², api ca, mah±r±ja, devadatto imasmi½ bhave buddha½ an±s±dan²yam±s±dayitv± samaggañca saªgha½ bhinditv± pathavi½ p±visi, tath±gato bujjhitv± sabbadhamme parinibbuto upadhisaªkhaye”ti. “S±dhu, bhante n±gasena, evameta½ tath± sampaµicch±m²”ti.
