Yadi, bhante n±gasena, bhagavato gacchantassa aya½ acetan± mah±pathav² ninna½ unnamati, unnata½ onamati, tena hi ‘bhagavato p±do sakalik±ya khato’ti ya½ vacana½, ta½ micch±. Yadi bhagavato p±do sakalik±ya khato, tena hi ‘bhagavato gacchantassa aya½ acetan± mah±pathav² ninna½ unnamati unnata½ onamat²’ti tampi vacana½ micch±. Ayampi ubhato koµiko pañho tav±nuppatto, so tay± nibb±hitabbo”ti.
“Sacca½ mah±r±ja, attheta½ bhagavato gacchantassa aya½ acetan± mah±pathav² ninna½ unnamati unnata½ onamati, bhagavato ca p±do sakalik±ya khato, na ca pana s± sakalik± attano dhammat±ya patit±, devadattassa upakkamena patit±. Devadatto, mah±r±ja, bah³ni j±tisatasahass±ni bhagavati ±gh±ta½ bandhi, so tena ±gh±tena ‘mahanta½ k³µ±g±rappam±ºa½ p±s±ºa½ bhagavato upari p±tess±m²’ti muñci. Atha dve sel± pathavito uµµhahitv± ta½ p±s±ºa½ sampaµicchi½su, atha nesa½ sampah±rena p±s±ºato papaµik± bhijjitv± yena v± tena v± patant² bhagavato p±de patit±”ti.
“Yath± ca, bhante n±gasena, dve sel± p±s±ºa½ sampaµicchi½su, tatheva papaµik±pi sampaµicchitabb±”ti? “Sampaµicchitampi, mah±r±ja, idhekacca½ paggharati pasavati na µh±namupagacchati, yath±, mah±r±ja, udaka½ p±ºin± gahita½ aªgulantarik±hi paggharati pasavati na µh±namupagacchati, kh²ra½ takka½ madhu½ sappi tesa½ maccharasa½ ma½sarasa½ p±ºin± gahita½ aªgulantarik±hi paggharati pasavati na µh±namupagacchati, evameva kho, mah±r±ja, sampaµicchanattha½ upagat±na½ dvinna½ sel±na½ sampah±rena p±s±ºato papaµik± bhijjitv± yena v± tena v± patant² bhagavato p±de patit±.
“Yath± v± pana, mah±r±ja, saºhasukhuma-aºurajasama½ pu¼ina½ muµµhin± gahita½ aªgulantarik±hi paggharati pasavati na µh±namupagacchati, evameva kho, mah±r±ja, sampaµicchanattha½ upagat±na½ dvinna½ sel±na½ sampah±rena p±s±ºato papaµik± bhijjitv± yena v± tena v± patant² bhagavato p±de patit±.
“Yath± v± pana, mah±r±ja, kaba¼o mukhena gahito idhekaccassa mukhato muccitv± paggharati pasavati na µh±namupagacchati, evameva kho, mah±r±ja, sampaµicchanattha½ upagat±na½ dvinna½ sel±na½ sampah±rena p±s±ºato papaµik± bhijjitv± yena v± tena v± patant² bhagavato p±de patit±”ti.
“Hotu, bhante n±gasena, selehi p±s±ºo sampaµicchito, atha papaµik±yapi apaciti k±tabb± yatheva mah±pathaviy±”ti? “Dv±dasime, mah±r±ja, apaciti½ na karonti. Katame dv±dasa? Ratto r±gavasena apaciti½ na karoti, duµµho dosavasena, m³¼ho mohavasena, unnato m±navasena, nigguºo avisesat±ya, atithaddho anisedhanat±ya, h²no h²nasabh±vat±ya, vacanakaro anissarat±ya, p±po kadariyat±ya, dukkh±pito paµidukkh±panat±ya, luddho lobh±bhibh³tat±ya, ±y³hito atthas±dhanat±ya [atthas±dhanena (sy±. p². ka.)] apaciti½ na karoti. Ime kho mah±r±ja dv±dasa apaciti½ na karonti. S± ca pana papaµik± p±s±ºasampah±rena bhijjitv± animittakatadis± yena v± tena v± patam±n± bhagavato p±de patit±.
“Yath± v± pana, mah±r±ja, saºhasukhuma-aºurajo anilabalasam±hato animittakatadiso yena v± tena v± abhikirati, evameva kho, mah±r±ja, s± papaµik± p±s±ºasampah±rena bhijjitv± animittakatadis± yena v± tena v± patam±n± bhagavato p±de patit±. Yadi pana, mah±r±ja, s± papaµik± p±s±ºato visu½ na bhaveyya, tampi te sel± p±s±ºapapaµika½ uppatitv± gaºheyyu½. Es± pana, mah±r±ja, papaµik± na bh³maµµh± na ±k±saµµh±, p±s±ºasampah±ravegena bhijjitv± animittakatadis± yena v± tena v± patam±n± bhagavato p±de patit±.
“Yath± v± pana, mah±r±ja, v±tamaº¹alik±ya ukkhitta½ pur±ºapaººa½ animittakatadisa½ yena v± tena v± patati, evameva kho, mah±r±ja, es± papaµik± p±s±ºasampah±ravegena animittakatadis± yena v± tena v± patam±n± bhagavato p±de patit±. Api ca, mah±r±ja, akataññussa kadariyassa devadattassa dukkh±nubhavan±ya papaµik± bhagavato p±de patit±”ti. “S±dhu, bhante n±gasena, evameta½ tath± sampaµicch±m²”ti.
